CHAPTER 18

“So, you’re…asking us to leave?” Irene questioned softly, glancing at the girls before shifting her gaze at me, her eyes burning with hatred now. “Because she passed?” she barely choked out, tears already forming in her eyes and I simply kept quiet as the boys cleared their throats.
“Stop whining, you know that only one gets chosen.” Danny finally grumbled, leaning against the sofa, next to the rest of the guys, including Draven, might I add, and I awkwardly stood in my position, trying to come up with a plan to somehow convince Draven to let them stay. How did it come to this in the first place? How the hell did I pass? All I did was cause trouble and try to escape, so why? Was it because of my blood? Or because the Armenius brothers were looking for me?
“You’ve got to be kidding me!” Ferra snapped before Rihanna broke into tears.
“Shut up and leave already. We have no more use of you.” Alaric muttered and I stared at them in disbelief. A few days ago, they were being treated like “precious” angels, but what was up with the cold shoulder now?
“Wait, give them a chance.” I raised my voice, stepping forward and I watched them all turn to glance at me, their face remaining expressionless at my suggestion. “They deserve it after everything they’ve done for you. Plus, I think that-”
“Who cares about what you think, doll face?” Draven interrupted and I couldn’t help but shoot him a glare. This was all his fault.
“It hasn’t even been two month!” Rihanna cried, hugging Irene, who was now holding her tightly. What was their problem anyways? I would kill to be in their position right now.
“Tyrell, escort them out.” Draven muttered, which was followed by a sigh.
“At least let one of them stay!” I snapped, stepping in front of the girls and I heard the boys groan before Edward and Raymond stood up from the sofa.
“Kitkat, you need to-”
“Please, just one of them. I don’t want to stay here alone.” I cut Raymond off and I watched him raise a brow at me.
“That’s kinda rude, considering the fact that we’re all here.” Finn suddenly appeared in front of me, clutching my cheeks and lifting them up to meet his gaze.
“That’s not what I meant.” I said sharply, brushing away his hand and I watched Tyrell guide Irene and Rihanna back to their rooms.
“Let me stay.” Ferra started begging and I nodded in agreement, giving Draven a pleading look. His expressions remained indifferent and I glanced at Vincent, silently hoping he would take my side.
“I’ve already made up my mind.” Draven finally said and was about to stand up when I bolted towards him before pressing my hands on his lap and bending down to face him.
“Please, only her. I’m begging you.” I mumbled and I watched him slightly flinch before leaning back against the sofa, his eyes studying my every movement now.
“Fine.” His words caught me by surprise and I was about to stand up straight when he grabbed me by the wrist and out of instinct, I jerked my hand away.
“Wh-what is it?” I asked softly, looking at Draven, then at Jason, who was now chuckling at my reaction.
“Can I eat her? She is undeniably cute when she’s scared.” Finn stated softly and I simply ignored his statement. I guess I was kind of getting used to them by now.
“Thank you!” Ferra suddenly exclaimed before rushing back to her room and I was about to call her to wait for me when the boys started muttering in annoyance.
“What?” I raised a brow and Draven frowned at me, clearly not pleased with the fact that I was showing a bit of attitude today.
“Get ready to go out. We are going for a walk around the town, meeting with the humans before we drop Irene and Rihanna home.” Vincent instructed and I slowly nodded before turning around, not bothering to ask any more questions, just in case they change their minds about letting Ferra stay.

I tugged my sleeveless, grey dress one more time and sighed before walking out of the room. It didn't matter whether the dresses I wore were revealing or not anymore. After all, they were only attracted to my blood, not my body or looks. Just as I walked outside, Kevin appeared in front of me and I gasped, taking a step back before frowning up at him.
“Stay close to us, okay?” his voice sounded disturbingly soft and I watched him straighten his back before eyeing me from head to toe, his eyes growing a shade darker, making me extremely uncomfortable.
“You’re looking gorgeous in that dress, Kitkat.” Raymond complimented the minute I walked up to them but by now, I was getting kind of used to it.
“Where is everyone?” I asked softly, searching around the area when I noticed that Tyrell, Finn, Alaric and Jason were now missing.
“They’re staying behind.” Vincent ruffled up his hair and I was about to say something when I noticed Irene and Rihanna scowl at me. I went silent and pressed my lips together into a thin line when I saw the taxi stop by near the gate before the girls were practically forced to get inside.
“Well, there's that.” Edward grinned at me and I turned away before facing Ferra, who was now narrowing her eyes at me before scoffing in either disgust or hatred. I was only trying to help her and if she is being ungrateful for it, then fine, I don’t have time to look out for her anymore. I had to escape, no matter what.
“Let’s go.” Draven’s voice caught me off guard and I gasped before turning around to face him. His eyes scanned me from head to toe and I flinched when his eyebrows furrowed together in displeasure.
“What are you wearing?” his question confused me and I turned to look at the boys, who were now grinning and shaking their heads in pity.
“Me?” I questioned back and he took a step forward, making my heart skip a beat.
“Yes, you. Go change into something else, you’re not going around wearing that.” He said, with a pinch of annoyance in his voice and I frowned at him.
“Why? These are the clothes you provided me with, and since when did I have to wear clothes to your preferring?” I raised my voice and I watched his frown tighten at my question, obviously not being able to comprehend my "bold" attitude.
“I said,” he started through gritted teeth, inching even closer and tugging on my dress, almost revealing my chest and I froze in my position. “Go change.” He finished, loosening the grip and shooting me a glare, causing a shiver down my spine.
“Oi, Draven, calm down.” Danny grumbled and I snapped my head towards him.
“Yeah, it’s just a dress, what are you getting all worked up about?” Edward said in an almost teasing tone and I turned back to look at Draven, whose eyes were still glued to my face.
“Don’t tell me you’re actually jealous that-”
“Shut up, we’re leaving now.” Draven cut off Ferra and I watched him turn around before guiding us the way. I stared after him and ignored Edward, who was now slumping an arm around my shoulder and dragging me along. What was up with Draven, anyways?
After a long walk around the town, I let out a soft groan and looked ahead at Draven, who was still walking, his pace only growing faster as the people gathered around, clapping and congratulating us every now and then.
“Ah, mortals amuse me.” Danny waved at some kids, putting on a fake smile and I narrowed my eyes at him. “They desperately want something they can never have.” He finished, shifting his gaze at me and I quickly looked away.
“Stay close.” Vincent instructed, tangling an arm around my waist and I looked at him in confusion. “The Armenius family will be out searching for you, ready for an opportunity. We only have one more block to go before we go home.” He explained and I stopped to think for a minute. Why do they want me anyways? Were they trying to help me or use me? After what Dexter did, I cannot trust them but then again, what if they were better than the Ardeleans brothers?
“Adriana?” I snapped my head up to look at Vincent and quickly nodded before brushing his hand away and jogging up to Ferra.
“Hey, do you have a minute?” I asked softly, tugging at her dress and trying my best to ignore the people, who were now swarming next to us side by side as we straddled along. Luckily, the boys had huddled around us and created a clean path as we walked along.
“What is it?” Ferra muttered and I looked at Draven, who was now stopping to talk to a man. Good, now was my chance.
“Help me escape…” I barely whispered, eyeing at the boys, who were now surrounded by our town’s most beautiful girls, as they giggled and bashed their eyelashes flirtatiously.
“What?”
“Listen, you want to stay here, right? You want to be chosen, correct?” I questioned and watched her nod slowly. “Then help me escape. We both know that I don’t deserve to be here. You deserve the title of Draven’s first keeper, not me.” I tried my best to flatter her with my words and I watched her smile smugly at my statement.
“I suppose…but what’s the plan? Tell me you have a plan before you…” she trailed off when I shook my head and let out a frustrated sigh.
“All I need is for you to distract Draven.” I said, inching closer to her ears and I watched her nod.
“Draven is already distracted. It’s your lover boy that needs to be taken care of.” Ferra let out a groan, glancing past me and I followed her gaze to notice Vincent, who was now talking to some girls as well.
“What if he’s already listening-”
“He can’t. They’re not allowed to use their powers tonight, except Draven, of course.” Ferra mumbled and my eyes widened at her words.
“Why?”
“That’s not important. It’s got something to do with a deal with the humans, who cares? We are wasting time!” Ferra snapped and I hissed at her.
“Be quiet! Fine, you go and distract Draven and Vincent, I’ll use that chance to make a run for it and-”
“Distract who, doll face?” Draven’s voice cut me off and I gasped before turning to face Draven, who was now standing right behind me, his eyes burning holes through my face as both Ferra and I backed away. The people were now whispering and staring at us as the boys started walking up to me, Vincent shooting me a pitiful look before looking away.
“Nice little plan you got going on there, kittykat.” Raymond almost chuckled but managed to keep a straight face.
“You-you are not allowed to use your powers tonight…why-”
“Since when did we ever follow the rules?” Danny cut Ferra off and my eyes widened at his words.
“Oi, we’re making a scene.” Edward muttered and by now, the people were moving closer to eavesdrop on our conversation.
“What’s going on?” one of them questioned and I watched Draven shoot me one more glare before turning to face the people.
“Nothing, the girls are just tired.” Vincent lied quickly and I turned to look at Ferra, giving her a nod.
Without warning, I started running and pushed past through the people, my heart pounding loudly against my chest as the boys called out my name but I didn’t even bother to glance back at them.
“Go after her!”
“We can’t use our powers right now, you dipshit!”
“Move out of the way!”
I heard the boys yell before I made a turn to the nearest block, my legs almost giving away as I struggled to run faster. What have I done? At any time, the boys could use their powers and that’ll be the end of me.
“Whoa there, sweetheart.” a familiar voice said before two large hands grabbed my mouth before yanking me back. I turned to look at Dexter, who was now swiftly pulling out a Vervain bracelet out of his pockets and slipping it around my wrist before I could even pull away.
“They won’t be able to hear your heartbeat anymore.” He said, grabbing my wrist and dragging me to the nearest park and walking in. I struggled to free my grip but he was a lot stronger and before I could manage to scream, he pulled me down to hide near the nearest bush, causing me to almost fall on top of him but somehow, I managed to sit up straight.
“Be quiet! Do you want Draven to find you?! After you tried to escape?” he questioned and I instantly grew quiet, my eyes widening at his words before I shook my head. “Good girl.” a cold grin grew on his face and the memory of him almost choking me to death flashed through my mind, making my eyes glisten in tears but I knew I had no other choice but to do as he says for now. It didn’t even take two minutes for the Ardelean brothers to arrive at the park and I held my breath as Dexter pulling me into a tight hug, making sure to keep me hidden. I buried my face inside his chest and gripped his shirt when I heard one of them boys let out a frustrated growl.
“Where did she go?!”
“We looked everywhere!"
“Where the fuck is she?!” Draven’s voice cut off the boys and at this point, my whole body was trembling in fear as I tightened the grip on Dexter’s shirt, motioning him to inch closer to the bush but he didn’t budge. Instead, a smirk tugged at the corner of his lip as he stared at my petrified state and I turned away, not wanting to give him what he wanted.
“Just shut up and find her, I don’t care what it fucking takes!” Draven snapped again, making me jump a little. His voice was too close to the bush we were hiding behind now and if it wasn’t for the bracelet, I would definitely have been caught by now.
“We can’t hear her heartbeat or sense her presence.”
“it’s impossible, unless she was on Vervain.”
“Draven, do you think that Dexter-”
“I told you guys to shut the fuck up and go find her!” Draven spat and I looked up at Dexter, whose eyes were now flickering in both satisfaction and pleasure, making my breath hitch in fear. This guy really was after Draven. But why? What did Draven do?
It wasn’t long before my surroundings grew quiet and I pulled away before looking up at Dexter, who nodded with a grin.
“Thank you for saving me.” I said quickly and was about to stand up when he tightened the grip around my waist before pulling me closer.
“Finally,” he mumbled, his eyes gleaming in pleasure under the moonlight and I stiffened in my position. “You’re all mine.” He finished and I quickly shook my head before brushing his hands away and standing up straight.
“I never said that I would go with you!” I snapped, backing away from him and he bolted up to me before locking my wrists in a tight grip. In an attempt to brush them away, I lost my balance and fell on a sitting position and I heard Dexter chuckle softly before bending down to close his face, making me flinch a little. What does he want from me?
“You’re adorable.” He stated softly and I glared at him before crawling back a little but he followed my motion, causing my heart to drop. What was he planning to do?
“Why don’t you stop resisting, sweetheart?”
“Stay away from me!”
“And if I don’t? Who’s going to come save you? Draven?” he questioned and I went silent before backing away a little further. It wasn’t long before my back bumped against the nearest wall and I turned to shoot him another glare. Dexter suddenly grabbed my wrist and slammed them to the wall as he closed his face to mine and I held back the urge to scream. I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction anymore.
“You shouldn’t have run away…” he whispered, pecking my cheeks and I froze before looking at him. “But you made it a lot easier on my brothers.” He added, grazing his lips against my cheeks and I leaned my face away in disgust.
“Get the fuck away from me!” I spat with so much hatred and whimpered when he simply chuckled at my outburst.
“You better get used to this, sweetheart,” he said, closing in on my face again and I shuddered when his lips brushed against my jawline and all the way up to my earlobes before he whispered the words that sent my eyes widening in fear.
“Because you’re going to have so much fun with us.”
