35: Christmas
All four of them spent the afternoon napping. Once they'd recovered some from the restlessness of the night before, they got to tidying up the house before Molly Weasley would arrive the following morning.
The front door opened, and Molly bustled in. "Good morning! Merry Christmas!"
"Merry Christmas!" Came a chorus of replies. Molly followed the voices to the drawing room.
Remus was sitting on one side of a couch, a book of protective charms and wards in hand. Sirius was using his lap as a pillow while he read a Quidditch Weekly, one leg tossed haphazardly over the back of the couch and the other draped off the front and onto the floor.
Harry was sitting on an armchair, with Draco sitting on the floor in front of him. Draco had been trying to master shifting forms without a wand. Harry was watching the magic and helping guide him along, as well as notice when something was about to go wrong and preventing incidents.
"It looks like you all have been busy. The place looks much nicer." Molly praised them.
"Oh. Listen." Sirius grinned.
Molly frowned. "What am I supposed to be hearing?"
"What are you not hearing?" Sirius hinted.
Harry could practically see the gears turning in her head. Molly suddenly turned and looked down the hallway. "No... She's gone! How did you manage that?"
"Harry killed her." Sirius beamed with pride.
Molly blinked. She looked at Harry. He shrugged awkwardly.
"Harry is very good at destroying things." Draco said with a smirk.
That did not seem to surprise Molly Weasley. "Well. What other miracles have happened?"
"We've got this room cleaned and presentable," Remus said while gesturing to the drawing room. "Two of the bedrooms are empty of everything and warded for Draco and I's transformations. All the cursed items are now in Walburga's old room."
Molly gaped. "All the cursed-?"
"Don't forget all the house elf heads are stored in the attic." Draco added.
Molly looked out into the hallway. "So they are..."
"I think we're ready for the Christmas decorations." Sirius said.
Molly nodded. "Would you boys like to help?"
The answer to that question was a yes from all of them. Sirius and Harry were chaos, stringing garlands wherever they could manage. Remus watched with contentment, placing decorations here and there. Draco's eye twitched and he had to refrain from straightening and organizing everything.
Remus stepped over to Draco, and carefully handed him a small bag of mistletoe sprigs. "Here. Go be sneaky and strategic." Draco couldn't hide the delight in his eyes, and he smirked. Now this was something decidedly fun.
While they were decorating, Molly was getting a head start on the cooking preparations. It wasn't long before the whole house was smelling of gingerbread and cookies and brownies. The chocolate ones weren't safe around Remus and Draco especially. Remus, who loved chocolate, and Draco who loved baked sweets in general.
While Molly shoo'd the two of them out of the kitchen, Sirius and Harry snuck a few of the treats while her back was turned. The two dramatically presented the sweets to their respective lovers, much to Remus' and Draco's amusement.
Molly let the thieves get away with their crimes, and simply made more to compensate. It was a good excuse to bake more, after all. She was glad to see that Draco was looking like an actual youth, and not some pristine prince. It did surprise her, just a little, how well the four of those boys got along. It reminded her of a family.
Molly left just after dinner to finish her own preparations at home.

Draco and Harry turned in for the night, with Harry being the first to approach the dresser they had moved their clothes into. Draco closed the bedroom door, and hugged Harry from behind.
"What?" Harry asked with a smile, looking over his shoulder at Draco who was smirking.
"Look up." Draco murmured.
Harry did, and his cheeks tinted slightly upon seeing the mistletoe. "I wonder how that got there?" He asked rhetorically.
"I haven't a clue." Draco said. "But rules are rules."
"You know I'm not very good at following rules." Harry said, setting down the pajama top he'd been about to pull on, and turning in Draco's embrace.
"I think this one's pretty simple." Draco said.
Harry set his hands against the sides of Draco's face. Then he drew him into a kiss. Draco eagerly leaned into it, and deepened the kiss.
Harry drew back, out of breath. "You know... If we're following rules..."
"What?"
"It's not fair that you're still wearing your shirt." Harry said.
"I don't think that's in the rules." Draco teased. "But if you want it off so bad, you're welcome to do it yourself."
Harry's face turned a shade pinker. He reached out and started undoing the buttons of Draco's shirt, starting at the top. He made sure to let his fingertips brush against Draco's chest as he took his time undoing it. He could taunt too.
Harry was halfway through the buttons when Draco started undoing the cuffs. "You're so slow." He complained, and then pulled the shirt over his head and tossed it aside. He immediately initiated the next kiss.
Harry had learned silencing charms. Now he found another use for them.

Harry slowly came to consciousness. Draco was looking at him fondly, and gently running his fingers through Harry's hair.
"Morning." Harry mumbled.
"Good morning, Love." Draco said. "How'd you sleep?"
Harry faintly blushed. "Love?"
"I thought I'd try it out." Draco said. "What do you think?"
"It's... It's good." Harry said, eyes wide. "I like it."
Draco smiled. "You are adorable."
"I- er..." Harry's face grew pinker, and he buried his face into his pillow.
Draco laughed, and propped himself up on an elbow. He brushed the hair away from the back of Harry's neck and placed a kiss there. His hand slid from Harry's neck to rest on his shoulder, and goosebumps followed his touch.
Harry pushed himself up and kissed Draco. Draco pulled him closer.
Several minutes later, there was a knock at the door. The boys separated and looked at each other.
Draco sighed. "Stay." He told Harry, and got up to answer the door.
He opened the door a crack, leaning to the side so that only a portion of his bare chest was visible. His unamused face greeted Sirius. "I was in the middle of something." He said.
Sirius took in the tangled hair and bare chest in an instant. "Ah. I'll let you get back to that. Guests in an hour."
Draco closed the door.
Sirius nearly fell over laughing. He didn't risk going down the stairs until he could keep a straight face. Eventually Remus had to escort him down.

Harry and Draco showered and got dressed before going downstairs.
"How have you been doing, Sirius?" Bill asked.
"I'm great." Sirius said. "I have never been this happy in this house. Never thought I could be."
"What's changed, then?" Bill asked, and then the two of them heard Harry and Draco going down the stairs.
"Good morning boys." Sirius said with a lopsided grin.
"Good morning." Harry and Draco both said.
Bill's brows rose upon seeing Draco. "You're still here?"
"Is there a reason I wouldn't be?" Draco said, a brow raised.
"A few, actually." Bill said, not unkindly.
Charlie's head peeked around a doorway, confused at hearing an unfamiliar voice. He saw Draco and stepped into the doorway. "Aren't you a Malfoy?"
"What gave it away? My great looks or the impeccable posture?" Draco asked.
Bill and Sirius both chuckled.
"What're you doing here then?" Charlie asked instead of answering.
"Liked my chances better here." Draco said simply.
"How're you doing? With the, er." Bill gestured toward the shoulder.
"The werewolf bite?" Draco asked.
"Yeah." Bill said.
"You were bit?" Charlie's eyes widened.
"I don't recommend it." Draco said. "It's quite odd to be able to smell Remus before he walks into a room."
"Oh." Charlie said.
"So uh. You weren't lucky." Bill said. "Sorry to hear that."
"I appreciate the sentiment, but I don't need condolences." Draco said. "Sirius, is there any breakfast ready?"
~~~
"Wow." They heard Hermione's voice exclaim. "It looks so nice!" Hermione quickly covered her mouth, worried Walburga had heard.
"Thank you, Hermione." Sirius grinned. "You can be as loud as you want- Harry killed my mother."
"Sirius, would you stop staying that I killed her?" Harry asked, walking over.
"No." Sirius said, delighted.
Hermione jumped to give Harry a hug. Harry laughed and returned the embrace. "Hi Mione. Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas." Hermione grinned. "Now what did Sirius mean when he said you killed his mother?"
"He figured out how to deactivate the magic in the portrait." Draco said. "It was quite brilliant."
"That is. Merry Christmas Draco." Hermione said warmly.
Draco tilted his head slightly. "Merry Christmas... Hermione." He seemed to have said the right thing, since she beamed.
"Merry Christmas Harry." Ron said, and then looked at Draco.
Hermione gave him a pointed look.
"Er. Merry Christmas Malfoy." Ron said, looking slightly constipated.
"Merry Christmas, Ronald." Draco replied, easily.
Ron's nose crinkled at the use of his full name.
"C'mon, let's go sit down." Harry said, and led them to the drawing room. "There's cookies."
Harry rather enjoyed the Christmas chatter. Draco had some rather hilarious comebacks to things the twins said. Sirius and the twins chattering about pranks and such was also a very entertaining experience.
"Sirius, have you ever heard-"
"-of these blokes that made a map of Hogwarts?"
"Somebody made a map of Hogwarts?" Remus raised a brow. "I'm sure a few have tried."
"Oh, definitely!" George said.
"But these blokes actually did it!" Fred said.
"Oh really? Did they get all of the secret passages?" Sirius asked.
"We haven't found any others." Fred said.
"There's a passage between the Hog's Head and the Room of Requirement." Harry said. "Well, sometimes there is."
"What do you mean sometimes?" George asked.
"I'm not sure when it's there." Harry said.
"Is it based on a clock?" Fred asked.
Harry shrugged. "I've only used it a couple times."
"Come on, Prongslet. You've got to give me more than that." Sirius said incredulously.
Fred and George's heads whipped around. "Prongslet?"
Harry looked at them innocently. "Prongs was my father. You didn't know?"
"You're Prongs' son?" The twins exclaimed.
"Yes? Prongs, the stag?" Harry said. "Like my father's patronus and mine?"
The twins picked their jaws up off the floor. "Then who're Moony, Wormtail, and Padfoot?"
"I'm Padfoot." Sirius grinned.
"Your animagus!" Fred exclaimed.
"Then does that mean-" George looked to Remus. "You're Moony?"
"Of course." Remus said.
"But-" Fred gaped. "You became a teacher!"
"A damn good one, I've been told." Remus said.
"What about Wormtail?" Fred asked.
"That was Scabbers." Harry provided.
"Scabbers?" They shrieked.
Extra beds had been brought in and stashed in Harry and Draco's room for the Weasley children and Hermione. Hermione likened it to a sleepover party.
"Am I counting wrong or are we a bed shy?" Charlie asked. "I've got nine and eight."
"No, you're not wrong..." Ginny frowned. "I suppose Hermione and I can share?"
"You can sleep in your own bed, Ginevra." Draco said.
"What, and you're gonna share with Harry?" Ginny crossed her arms.
Harry sighed. Draco laid down on top of Harry and his' bed. "He knows which side is his."
"I don't have a side." Harry teased him. "You take your half out of the middle."
Ron looked a little green.
"Wait." Ginny frowned. "Wait..."
"Oh, she's catching on." George said to Fred.
"Do you think Bill and Charlie have figured it out yet?" Fred asked.
The twins gave each other a look. "Nah." They both said.
"Are you two..." Ginny pointed to Harry and Draco. "...A two?"
"Are we a two, Harry?" Draco asked.
"Yeah." Harry said. "We're together."
"You're dating Draco Malfoy?" Ginny asked.
"Yes. I am." Harry said. "We weren't advertising it to the world, so if you could please not go telling everyone, thanks."
"Who else knows?" Ginny asked.
"You all, and then Sirius and Remus." Harry said.
"Huh." Bill said.
~~~
Draco woke to the smell of breakfast, and carefully crept out of bed. Harry rolled over, and frowned in his sleep. Draco pressed a quick kiss to his head. Harry's frown eased away.
"Good morning dear." Molly said cheerily when he reached the kitchen. "They warned me you'd be the first to breakfast."
"Am I that predictable?" Draco asked.
"Your appetite is." Molly smiled. "It'll be a couple more minutes before it's done."
"Alright. Thank you." Draco said, and turned to leave.
"Draco. How are you doing?" Molly asked. "I know you have a lot on your plate right now. Do you want to talk?"
Draco sighed. "There is a lot. But I can handle it. You don't need to worry."
~~~
They gathered in the drawing room after breakfast. Somehow Draco and Harry had ended up on opposite sides of the room. Draco was on a couch, with Ginny perched on the back of it just behind his shoulder. Hermione was in the seat next to him. Harry was sitting on the floor by Remus and Sirius.
Harry had gotten Molly and Arthur a joint gift- a muggle knitting machine. The couple were absolutely fascinated. It was quite amusing to watch.
Harry sent a small box floating toward Draco. It was wrapped in brown paper and a silver ribbon. Draco took it, and carefully untied the ribbon, and then the wrapping paper. Draco's heart stuttered. Was that a ring box?
Draco opened it. He was greeted with the sight of a beautiful filigree band. He didn't need to read the note to know that it was white gold. He felt Ginny shift her weight to see what he'd gotten, and he snapped the box closed.
Draco held the box closely, and looked at Harry with slightly tinted cheeks. He noticed Remus and Sirius watching him eagerly, with silent grins. Draco smirked. He pointed to another small parcel. Remus stretched to reach it, and then passed it to Harry.
Harry raised a brow inquiringly at Draco, who just continued to smirk, and even leaned back to watch. Harry pulled off the gold ribbon bow and Christmas red paper, to find a ring box. Harry's gaze snapped up to look at Draco. Draco's smirk grew.
Harry opened the box, finding the gold and diamond ring. He closed the box as his face went a brilliant shade of pink, and he couldn't help the smile that grew. Sirius threw an arm around Harry's shoulders, beaming.
"Oh, here, Draco. This one's for you." Hermione handed Draco a soft parcel.
Draco took it, and slowly unwrapped it. His hands met soft yarn, and he found himself holding a Weasley sweater in green and white, bearing a 'D'.
"It's 'D' for dolt." Fred provided.
"I thought it was 'D' for di-" George began.
Molly smacked both their heads. "Don't listen to them, Draco dear."
Draco stared at the sweater.
"You're supposed to wear it, not look at it." Ron said.
Draco blinked. It suddenly hit him. They had all accepted him. Hermione, who greeted Draco as though they'd been friends for years. Sirius and Remus, who had welcomed him into their home. Ginny, who sitting closer to Draco than she would have if she'd been at all concerned. The twins, who now initiated teasing banter. Mrs. Weasley had knitted him a sweater, something she did for family.
Harry smiled from across the room. It was a gentle expression, one that somehow managed to say all the words that were important. I love you, it's okay, I'm here, you aren't alone.
