29: Bonds
Harry woke, his mind foggy. He rolled over, and snuggled closer to Draco's chest. Draco smiled, and brushed the hair from Harry's face.
"G'mornin." Harry mumbled, sleepily.
"Goodmorning." Draco returned, and kissed Harry's forehead.
Harry blinked his eyes open, and smiled at the sight of Draco's messy hair.
"What are you looking at?" Draco asked.
"Your hair." Harry said. "I like when it's like this."
"What? When it looks like I've been snogging for the past hour?" Draco asked.
"I hadn't thought about it that way but yes." Harry said. "Like that."
"Hm." Draco hummed, thoughtful.
"I'd be happy to help in the styling process." Harry said, a mischievous hint to his smile.
Draco grinned. "Really now? How thoughtful of you."
"Mmmhmm." Harry said, and tilted his head toward Draco. Draco met him halfway.
The kiss was slow, and sweet. Then Draco propped himself up on his elbows so he could kiss more comfortably. The kiss deepened, and they lost track of time. And Draco's shirt. Harry's hands roamed over Draco's chest and back, the muscles earned from quidditch.
The door opened, and the two had barely a moment to react before Ron's voice was heard. "Oh bloody hell."
"I knew it!" George crowed, drowning out Hermione's squeak of surprise.
Fred was just cackling.
Draco shifted so he was sitting beside Harry, who was slowly sitting up, his face growing quite pink. Ron was turning a similar shade.
George was now trying to convince Fred to breathe, but he himself was laughing too hard to get the words out. Hermione saw Draco without a shirt and turned around. Ron stared, dumbfounded.
"Harry, do you know where my shirt went?" Draco asked casually, eyeing the others for their reactions.
Harry caught sight of it to the side, and he hid his face in a hand and pointed.
"Ah, there it is. Thank you." Draco said, and got up, grabbing it and slipping it on. His shoulder didn't bother him nearly as much today. He walked back over to Harry, and leaned in close. "Would my presence just make the upcoming conversation worse?" He asked quietly.
Harry nodded, unable to say anything at the moment. Draco tucked a hand under Harry's chin and turned his head to steal one last kiss from him before heading to the door. "I'll go see about some breakfast." He said to the four loitering around the door.
Fred and George's laughing had calmed enough that they started to catch their breath. And then Fred saw Ron's extremely colorful and shocked face, and he pointed it out to George, already laughing again. George wheezed. They both had laughter tears in their eyes.
Draco slipped past them and went downstairs in search of food. Harry sighed.
"Fred, George. Do I need to talk about this with you two or will you just let it be?" Harry asked.
"We're-" George managed between his breaths of air.
"-good." Fred finished, also trying to catch his breath.
"Then get out so I can talk. I can't hear myself think over you two." Harry said.
Fred and George stood, still grinning madly, but they seemed to be over their fit of laughter. "Good luck Harry."
"Thanks." Harry said.
"You're snogging Draco Malfoy." Ron said quietly, his eyes wide.
Fred and George slapped their hands over their mouths in an effort not to laugh at the horror in Ron's voice. They looked at each other, realized it was a losing fight, and bolted.
"Hermione, can you shut the door?"
Hermione nodded and pushed Ron the rest of the way inside, closing the door behind them.
"Have you gone mad?" Ron asked, finally over the initial shock.
"I don't think so." Harry replied.
"That was Malfoy, Harry!" Ron spluttered. "Malfoy!"
"Yes, I am very well aware." Harry said.
"How long have you two been together?" Hermione asked, curiously.
"Since we met at the Hog's Head. For the D.A. That was why he wanted to talk to me. About erm. Joining my side." Harry said.
"But that was ages ago." Ron said. "You've been with him this whole time?"
"Yeah." Harry said.
"But..."
"Ron, did he look unhappy? When he was with Malfoy, did Harry ever look upset with Malfoy?" Hermione asked. "Because I never noticed them arguing or upset with each other. After the first couple weeks. The first few weeks were a bit nerve-wracking."
"What?" Ron frowned.
"Well, I had to keep an eye out, to see if anything was wrong. I never saw anything that made me worry about Malfoy hurting Harry." Hermione said. "Looked like Zabini was a good friend too."
Harry smiled. "Yeah. Blaise is... He's certainly something. He's a lot more friendly when you aren't trying to fight him."
"Most people are." Hermione smiled.
"Mione, you're just- you're okay with this?" Ron asked.
Harry attentively waited for her answer too.
"Yes, Ronald, I am. I've seen Harry actually happy around Malfoy. And I trust Harry enough that he's not making a stupid decision about someone who used to be his enemy." Hermione said.
Ron frowned, thinking. "But... Harry, he's a git. How could you snog a git?"
Harry laughed. "He's gotten better."
"I sure hope so." Ron said firmly. "Or I'm gonna punch his scrawny- er- face."
"Scrawny face?" Hermione and Harry asked simultaneously.
"Well, I was going to say scrawny arse, but that would have been weird." Ron said.
Hermione snorted.
"Oi." Ron protested.
"Well, I have to ask that you don't punch his face." Harry said. "I quite like the way it looks."
Ron gagged, and Hermione giggled. Harry grinned.
"But seriously, if he hurts you we'll get Ginny involved." Hermione said, honestly.
"I have been teaching him the same stuff the D.A. has been learning, and more." Harry said. "Just warning you. He won't be easy to take on."
"You don't honestly think he could beat Ginny in a fight?" Ron asked. "She's vicious."
"Yes, Ginny is. She's vicious. But Draco is smart enough to counter her." Harry said. "I wouldn't want to be near that fight."
"Why Draco Malfoy, of all people, why him?" Ron asked.
"Well," Harry said, "Have you looked at him? He's a looker. The hair, the cheekbones, the eyes, the-"
Ron gagged. "No no you can stop there I get it."
"Harry's right, he does look quite attractive." Hermione said thoughtfully. Ron opened his mouth to protest but he didn't get to say anything. "But he's not got as much of a build as Ron."
Harry gave her a look, and Hermione suddenly realized what she'd said. Her ears turned pink. "I'm going to go see about breakfast." She said suddenly, and left in a hurry.
Ron blinked, completely lost.
"She likes you, mate." Harry said.
"She- what?"
Harry laughed. "C'mon, I'm hungry too."

Draco left the sounds of the twins' laughter behind him, and went downstairs to the kitchens. Molly saw him peeking in, and gave him a smile. "I'll have something done in a couple minutes."
"Thank you." Draco said, and took a seat at the table. He frowned, wondering how Harry's conversation was going. Draco's thoughts were wandering all over, and his stomach grumbled.
Something bothered Draco's nose. It was an unfamiliar smell, and as he twitched his nose to try and make the odd tickling go away, he turned to the doorway. Remus walked around the corner, and as he saw Draco his shoulders slumped.
Draco raised a questioning brow.
"You smelled me coming, didn't you?" Remus asked, plopping down at the table.
"I-" Draco sniffed the air again. "Yes. I did."
"I'm sorry. It's worse than Bill's. He can't smell me." Remus said.
"I figured it would be. He had his teeth sunk in pretty good. Very different from a scratch." Draco said.
"I'd just hoped, with what Harry did- whatever that was..." Remus sighed.
"I'm fine. You can stop apologizing." Draco said. "It isn't your fault. And I'm glad to have guidance with this."
Remus nodded.
"Does anyone know what the twins are laughing about?" Sirius asked, looking thoroughly around before each step.
"They're laughing at Ronald." Draco said. "It's very strange to call him that. There are too many Weasleys in this house."
"So I don't need to be concerned?" Sirius asked.
"No. At least not anything that I know about." Draco said.
Sirius released a sigh of relief, and then strolled into the room. Draco frowned.
"Why do you smell like-" Draco said, and then his frown turned to a mischievous grin. "Oh. You two. I didn't expect that. Does Harry know?"
"Does what?" Sirius blinked. "Oh. How-"
"Scent, Sirius." Remus said, a faint coloring of pink on his cheeks and ears. "He's more affected than we hoped."
"Ah." Sirius said. "No, Harry doesn't know. Yet."
"Here you go, Draco." Molly walked in, sliding a plate of french toast to him, and a plate of butter and jug of syrup landed nearby on the table. "I've got more on the stove."
"Thank you." Draco said, and barely spent the time to dress up his breakfast before plowing in.
"Well, looks like you've got the appetite." Sirius said.
"He's also a teenage boy." Remus said.
"True." Sirius said, grinning. "Remember how much we would eat at the feasts?"
Hermione came into the room just as Molly sent out a plate full of cooked pieces and empty plates and forks. "Oh, lovely! Thank you Mrs. Weasley."
"You're welcome, dear." Molly returned from the kitchen.
"So, what do you think of Mrs. Weasley's cooking?" Hermione asked Draco as she served herself.
Draco only nodded, as his mouth was quite full at the moment. Hermione smiled at him, and started eating. Draco took that as a good sign. She seemed to not be upset or cautious of him. The talk must have gone well. But Ronald and Harry weren't down yet... The two walked into the room as if they'd just been waiting for him to think that very thing.
Remus' head rose from his plate, and he turned to the doorway. His eyes went wide and he started choking on his bite. He sorted it out after a moment. Sirius looked at him with concern.
Remus gestured between the two of them, and then the same between Harry and Draco with a pointed expression. Sirius choked on his bite of french toast, but he didn't get it handled as quickly as Remus had, and drew a few eyes.
He swallowed. "I'm good." He said, his voice raspy for a moment. A tiny cough. "I'm fine."
Harry looked to Draco questioningly, and Draco just shrugged. Then Draco realized. Harry's face only grew more questioning. He glanced toward Sirius, who was now smirking. Sirius wiggled his brows and looked between Harry and Draco.
Harry's face went pink again. How did they know too?
As soon as Harry was finished with his breakfast, Sirius shoved the rest of his own into his mouth and dragged Harry off for some quality Godfather- Godson bonding time.
Remus himself turned to Draco. "I want to talk more about that book, if you have some time."
Draco raised a brow, wondering if he meant the werewolf one or the Aevumiter one. But he nodded, and stood. Remus led them toward a bit of a sitting room. With a quick privacy charm, he sat down.
"Have you been having... Strange dreams?" Remus asked.
"Yes, actually. Over the past few months." Draco said.
"Tell me about them." Remus asked. "What are they like?"
"I... I hope you don't think I'm crazy, but... I think they're memories. Of the future Harry experienced." Draco said.
"Have you told Harry about the dreams?"
"No." Draco said. "I don't... I don't want to open wounds that have closed. Or are trying to. Some of the... Dreams should be called nightmares."
"That bad?"
"Yes." Draco said. "And I... The memories are mine. It all happens from my perspective. It's what I was thinking, what I was feeling then."
"It's just like you're remembering what you've forgotten." Remus said. "Like you're growing into yourself."
"Yes. Exactly." Draco said. "I... I feel older than I am. I have these memories, and I remember them as clearly as my normal ones."
Remus nodded. "Draco. Do you remember hearing that Aevumiter will Bond with someone?"
"Oh." Draco said, understanding what Remus was saying.
"Yes." Remus said. "You should probably read over the laws section again, in regards to Aevumiter and Bonded."
"Yes." Draco said, quietly. "I should."
"We also need to figure out if you're going back to school, or if you'll be going home for Christmas early." Remus said. "Being around other students might be..."
"Well, I can't go to Malfoy Manor." Draco said. "I don't... I don't know what to do."
"McGonagall will be taking Hermione and the Weasley boys back to school later today." Remus said. "It's a Hogsmeade weekend, so the students aren't likely to have noticed your absence as much."
"Right. Time to figure out the plan. I'll... I'll go talk to Harry."
