Theme: Sirens

The mythology of sirens:
• They are described as half bird half women.
• Sirens lures sailors to their destruction (usually towards cliff faces or rocky shores) by the sweetness of their singing.
• It is said to have been the daughters of either the sea God Phorcys or the river God Achelous by one of the Muses.
• Another version is that Demeter turned sirens into bird like monsters for failing to protect her daughter Persephone. A similar version was that after Persephone was abducted, the sirens asked Demter to give them wings to help search Persephone better.
• If a mortal was able to resist the Sirens song, it will cause the Sirens to commit suicide by throwing themselves into the water.
