♘: Seventh Despair

"Levi , what is he talking about?"

Levi sighed and closed his eyes for a few moment as if he were trying to remember. "I didn't kill them and I know it's hard to believe, but I wasn't the one who did it. I was there at the scene of the crime because my nose found the scent of blood and I was curious. You remember what happened, right? Tell me what you remember."

Eren hesitated, but answered. "They were in the kitchen. They were all bloody and dead when I came back from exploring the town with Armin and Mikasa. There were soldiers there... How would I know if you're just lying? I haven't even known you for more than a day. How do I know if you're just feeding me lies?"

"I knew who you were before they passed away, so there's no way I would do that. Do you still remember anything? Armin arrived at your home before you did, right?" Levi asked in a quiet tone of voice as the noises from the floor below them got louder and louder.

"He saw me crouching down, about to bite them to make them like me so that they would come back. I figured a kid like you back then wouldn't want to have his parents gone forever, so I tried. When I saw Armin standing in the doorway, I panicked and left."

Eren was speechless and his throat was dry. Levi was there at the scene of the crime, but who killed them? Eren couldn't think of anyone who would possibly hate them. He knew his parents were good people. His father was a scientist and his mother stayed at home most of the time when she wasn't helping out the village.

"Then who killed them?"

"Honestly I have no idea. Whoever it was was long gone before I could take a whiff of their scent," Levi said. "It's true you barely know me and that you will probably never believe me, but I'm true to my word. All I managed to use as a clue was some small object that appeared to be a diamond earring."

"WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME, YOU FOUL SCUM? LET ME OUT OF HERE!" Armin snarled.

It was scary hearing Armin scream so much. He was always so calm and collected.

"Can I see him before I go?" Eren asked with a sigh.

"Of course."

Eren sat up and the vampire quickly moved to help him out of bed, but he slapped his hand away. Eren glared at him.

"I don't trust you just yet, monster," he snapped. "I don't think I ever will. Just show me where he is and don't follow me."

Levi remained silent and pointed to a ladder descending below. Eren paced to it slowly and climbed down it. It was wooden and it was't very stable, but he reached the ground again before he could fall off. The room was dark and the air was cold and dense and the walls were stone that appeared to look a hundred years old. There was a small, metal cage placed in the middle of the room with locks and chains decorating it. Armin was in there and he flinched when he heard even the most quiet sound.

"Eren," he said with wide eyes. His blond hair was dirtied by his own blood. "What happened to me? Why is everything so clear?"

Eren stepped closer to the cage carefully and Armin jumped up and approached him at lightning speed.

"I was dying, Eren, why am I like this? Did that thing do this to me? God. I feel so thirsty. What is happening to me?"

"Armin, listen," Eren murmured. "You won't be able to return to your normal life now, understand? You died and stayed dead for a while, but..."

"Tell me," Armin demanded.

"You're no longer human," Eren answered. "Lev- He did it. It was upon my request-"

"What?" Armin said.

"Armin, I'm so sorry but I didn't want to lose you," Eren whispered frantically.

"What am I? What in the world am I?"

"You're a vampire now. It's not what it was like in the books we used to read. It's nothing like the stories we would hear around town. This is reality. It's so different," Eren told him.

"You should have let me died," Armin murmured in a shaking voice. "Because now I have the sudden urge to rip the bars off this cage so I could tackle you down, slit your throat and drink your blood. I don't want to think this way."

"Everything is going to be okay. He'll get you some...er... blood."

Armin was pacing around the cage now with his hands curled around his hair. He grit his teeth and he started to bang his head against the metal bars.

Eren left soon after that and he began to feel regret roll down his heart. Armin acted so different already and he didn't want to watch him like that anymore. He didn't know if he chose the right choice.

Two months later...

The higher ups started to get suspicious whenever Eren didn't show up for training. He claimed he was taking care of his sister, but it was too much. They didn't take him into any more questioning, but he was aware that they were always watching him. Sasha and Jean and the others didn't ask anything, but they were curious. Eren tried his best not to reveal anything through his face or his words. He couldn't afford to let them know anything. He was sure he would lose his job as a soldier if they found out that he was letting a vampire suck his blood in exchange to make his sister feel better.

Mikasa was almost good as new. She started to clean the clothes and bake bread like she used to. She even started to work around town again which was unbelievable. The town's people were blown away as well. The colour still didn't return to her cheeks and her legs were still weak, but she was Mikasa again. The somewhat healthy Mikasa Eren always yearned for.

Eren got better at his archery skills and Levi was always lurking in the trees near by, watching him. There were times when they went days without talking to one another and then days when Levi would capture him and bring the human to his home just to be in his presence. He never said 'I love you' again ever since the day they first met, but Eren was glad. Having a beast love you was an insult. Levi always bit Eren in places where his fellow friends and superiors wouldn't see any bite marks. The upper arm and shoulder were descent places, but Levi was itching to get a bite out of his neck again.

One day Eren was called to commander's tent. He started to freak out, but he knew they couldn't possibly know about Levi. Not yet anyway. Erwin and Hanji were at their usual places side by side, but there was a new figure. A petite lady with light ginger hair and amber eyes was speaking quietly to Hanji, and she looked a little alarmed when she spotted Eren. Did she know something that concerned him?

"Eren Jaeger," Erwin said and looked up from his paperwork. "We meet again."

"What have you brought me here for, sir?" Eren asked politely and nodded in acknowledgement to Hanji and the small lady.

"I hope you're aware, but you've been absent quite often."

Eren tensed up. He definitely saw this coming.

"I've seen your sister around town, so it couldn't possibly mean you're still taking care of her, am I correct?"

"Correct," Eren agreed honestly.

"Is there something you need to tell me, Eren?" Erwin asked and put aside the paperwork. He intertwined his fingers together and rested his chin atop of them.

Eren thanked the heavens above that he was such a good liar.

"There's something out there and well, I got curious you see," he lied. "What attacked me that night... there are more of them."

"What made you think of such a thing?" Hanji said before Erwin could open his mouth to reply.

"I've been exploring that forest since I was a child, and I'm confident I know more about it than anyone in this camp. You see this bite mark on my neck? Some savage creatures could be lurking out there, and I don't think they will leave humanity alone so easily."

"So what you're saying is that you spent most of your time going in there instead of coming here?" Erwin asked with disbelief. "What do you think you would do there?"

"I watch and I listen. There's something out there that you guys don't know about and I'm begging you when I say this; please be aware of what might be out for us," Eren said.

Erwin looked over at Hanji and nodded solemnly. "We need to send our strongest soldiers out there and see what they can find."

"Are you out of your mind?" Eren said loud enough so that the ginger flinched. He calmed down. "We have no idea what's out there!"

"That's when you're wrong, Eren," Hanji spoke. "Those bite marks. I recognize them and I've read about them in the books."

"What do you think could have done it?" he asked nervously.

"They're called vampires. They depend on blood to live and receive energy. I've heard their weaknesses are garlic, holy water, crosses and sunlight, but I doubt that's true."

They were smarter than Eren thought, but he managed to speak to them without having to mention his deal with Levi. All was going well. He would have to explain to the vampire afterwards. He looked up at the small woman. She looked mortified. He wasn't the only one who was afraid of them it seemed.

---

Eren wasn't really sure if he was used to everything that was happening to him. Getting abducted almost daily by a vampire whenever he wasn't in training and having to digest the fact that his best friend was a blood sucking monster was pretty difficult to take in.

He was back at Levi's home once more, trying to block the sound of Armin's screeching by covering his ears with his hands, but it was obvious it wouldn't work. Armin wasn't even in pain; he was just hungry and mad. Levi did was he promised and found vials of blood for him to feed on. Eren didn't know where he got them from but he didn't want to know. Some things were just better if left unanswered.

"When are you going to let him out of there? I don't appreciate the fact that you locked my friend up in some cage like he's some wild animal you know," Eren grumbled.

"Just a few more days until he calms down and accepts what he is now. It could be a danger hazard if I let him out so soon."

"It's been two months!" he shouted.

"I know. I'm not an idiot. What do you expect? The boy just started a new life so of course it would take a while for him to get used to it," he snapped.

"Whatever," Eren muttered. "Anyways, it seems sudden, but you should stay clear from the forest or at least stay low. Soldiers are on searches now."

"You told them about me?" Levi demanded calmly.

"Not really. Just told them about your existence."

"And you thought that was a good idea to tell them? What were you thinking?"

"I may be cooperating with you but I didn't say I wouldn't say anything and it's not like it matters, does it? I didn't mention anything about you."

"Really? That was your chance to expose me and ruin everything that I am. Tell me, Jaeger, why didn't you tell them about me?" he asked curiously.

Eren rolled his eyes and paced around the dim room. "Don't get cocky. If I told them about you it would have gotten me in trouble and there would be no one to heal Mikasa."

"First of all, my tears can't heal someone fully, so she's going to be sick either way and second, I dragged your sorry ass into this anyway. You could have blamed it on me. Tell them, Mister Vampire forced you to make a deal. It's all truth anyway. You have me wrapped around your finger, human. Am I sensing some development?" he babbled on and raised a thin eyebrow. "Are you perhaps starting to like me as a person?"

"You wish," Eren said. It made him a little upset to remember that Mikasa was still going to be sick. She may be fine but it will return eventually. "And you're not a person. You're some wicked blood sucking demon from the fiery pits of hell, you twat."

"Ouch," Levi said sarcastically."Well, I'm thirsty. Give me your wrist."

Eren rolled up his sleeve without a word and shoved his arm right in front of Levi's face. His cold, slender and pale fingers seized it and he brought it to his mouth. Opening his mouth wide then chomping down. Eren winced and snagged Levi's black hair.

"That hurt, you idiot," he lashed out.

Levi sipped the flowing crimson liquid and looked up at Eren while doing so. He always hated it when he did that, it was just so erotic in some way.Levi tried to charm Eren in any way possible no matter what the situation was, but the boy wouldn't budge. He didn't even trust him and he knew that this guy might be a suspect of killing his parents.

They were looking each other in the eyes now, never breaking eye contact as Levi sipped and Eren tugged whenever Levi sucked or bit too hard. It was always like this. Levi pulled away and held Eren's hand delicately in his and placed a small and soft kiss. Eren flinched and narrowed his eyes as Levi peppered kisses on his wrist and knuckles. He tried to pull his hand away, but his grip was like iron. Levi placed Eren's hand on his cheek, nuzzling into it and inhaling the appealing aroma.

"I love you."

"And I hate you. Let go of my hand, you fiend ," he snapped. His face felt awfully ice cold in his warm hand. Heat was starting to rise to his face. Levi always treated him like he was going to break so easily and Eren disliked that a lot.

"No. Not yet. Stay like this for a while. I want to feel your warmth without you trying to squirm away. I'm trying to imagine what it would be like if you would ever accept me as your lover."

"You little-"

"Shut up, brat. Just let me have my moment. It's the least you could do."

His words were quiet and sincere, almost sad. His eyebrows were knit together as he closed his eyes and placed his hand atop of Eren's. He looked like he was at peace or having a sweet dream. Eren didn't argue. He knew it would be useless of him to do so. He stayed still and shut his mouth for a long period of time until Levi was satisfied.

After letting go, the empty and emotionless expression and frown had returned to Levi's face as if nothing had ever happened between them in that blissful and comforting moment.
