1》Memories

Eva groaned as she felt someone shaking her from her sleep.

"Eva, c'mon get up!" she heard her best friend and adoptive sister Priscilla say above her. "Remember the balloon releasing ceremony today"

"Balloons can wait, sleep now" Eva said turning over and snuggling further into the softness of her pillow"

"Eva, you know how important this day is to me, since dad d-" Priscilla's words were cut off by her own sob.

Eva quickly jolted upwards and moved towards her friend but she held up her hands "I'm okay" she says and smiles weakly.

Eva decided to get up and get ready for the ceremony before it got too late, after her shower she dressed up in a floral dress with a white flower crown and pink flats.

"Hey Prissy, you ready yet?" she called down the hall, when she got no response she walked down to see Priscilla at the window looking out at the partially cloudy sky with tears gliding down her cheeks, yet she refused to wipe them away.

Eva sighed softly and shook her head, she knew her friend hadn't really cried when she got the news of her father's death when he lost his life after serving 10 years in the military. The news never really set in until now. She touched her friend's shoulder and her heart broke when she saw the defeated look on her face.

Priscilla jumped up and wrapped her arms tightly around her sister and best friend of 5 years and sobbed into her shoulder, her father had been her rock for all the 17 years she'd been alive and now he was just gone and she didn't know how to react but the tears leaking out of her eyes seemed to release some tension within her.

Her heart was full.

After some time her sobs died down and but her eyes still glistened with unshed tears. Eva knew how much this ceremony meant to her so she looked at the time and realised that they had enough time to get to the ceremony and she too had her own reason for going, this ceremony celebrated the lives of veterans that had died in battle and Eva's mother was one of those veterans, but she died almost 5 years ago and there she met Priscilla with her father, because he was the one delivering the news.

At that time she was 11 and was now classified as an orphan because her real dad had fled as soon as he heard the news, but Priscilla's father adopted her and raised her like his own child. The news of his death struck her as well, it was like a Deja-vu moment.

She felt as if she cried less than she was supposed to.

Priscilla's mother didn't take the news well and so started drinking, forgetting that their own children were still there.

Eva gripped onto her best friend's hand and pulled her out the door, not waiting for their drunkard mother to wake up and see them. She hailed a cab and got to the ceremony with 5 minutes to spare.

All around you could see the unhappy faces of children, mothers, wives, girlfriends, husbands, boyfriends, relatives. Anyone related to the people's lives that were being celebrated. Children cried and screamed in agony for their parents and relatives who were no more.

"I want my daddy, where did he go, why did he leave?" I hear one child say sobbing to his mother while the mother was trying to control her own tears and Eva had to try and block them out before she too started crying.

In a while the ceremony started.

"Friends, we are gathered here on this Thursday, to celebrate the life and not the death of our family members, they were brave enough to go out and fight for us, so that we could live freely, safely and comfortably and for that we will always cherish them in our hearts. These people all mean dearly to us and it is never easy to let them go, it will never be easy to let these people go as long as they remain in our hearts, but let us not remember them in the way that they died but in the way they impacted our lives for the good and reminisce in the wonderful memories that they have left with us."

Tears gathered in Eva's eyes as she listened to the speaker's words"Now we start the releasing of the balloons."

One by one the people lined up taking a balloon for themselves and their families. Eva and Priscilla stood anxiously in line waiting for their turn.

As they got there, before Eva could pick a balloon Priscilla grabbed a grey one. "He did always like this colour" she said with tears in her eyes.

"So did mom" Eva said.

She smiled gently and put around her arm around her sister's shoulder and they walked toward the release circle together.

"These balloons each represent the people we are honouring, please right the name of the person who you are honouring"

Sargent Richard Morris & Specialist Linda Gregg.

Altogether people released their balloons and sighs of relief and contentment could be heard in the crowd as the families of the passed veterans felt some sort of tension released from their hearts.

Eva and her adoptive sister Priscilla left the balloon releasing hand in hand and walked toward their home, but something caught Eva's eye.

"Hey, Prissy look!" she said. "The fair"

Priscilla smiled remembering that her father used to take her to the fair from a young age and when Eva had legally become her sister they both used to enjoy their annual visit to the fair together.

"We should take a look, right" Priscilla asked, "for old times sake?"

Eva smiled gently and agreed to her sister's proposal.

They rode several rides together and Priscilla won a prize for her sister, her sister meant the world to her because she always looked out for her and she was being strong for her sake.

As they were about to leave, Eva noticed a crowd gathered at a corner of the fair and pulled her sister towards it.

"Step up and win a free hot air balloon ride!" the announcer yelled. "just write your name, drop in the box and you might win but you don't have a chance if you don't enter your name."

Priscilla smiled at her sister and wrote their names.

Meanwhile, Kaz Harper, 18, and his twin brother, Adam were also entering this contest, pay no mind, Adam had no interest in such foolishness, his words to be exact, but Kaz who had always wanted to try this was more interested.

"Why aren't you at least interested in trying it out Adam?" Kaz asked his very opposite of him, his brother.

"I'd rather not go into detail of why this childish activity displeases me" Adam, always the intellectual one said to his more adventurous brother.

Kaz only smiled and shrugged at his brother, older by about only 2 minutes.

"And... the winners are Kaz Harper and Eva Kelly" the announcer spoke, "Congratulations Kaz and Eva!"

Kaz and Eva met at the podium both their siblings happy that they got a chance at something they really wanted to do.

Kaz and Eva both froze when looking at one another as if something just clicked.

"Okay, you two can go in the balloon now." The announcer said amused. The pair broke from their stare off and Eva blushed deeply while Kaz chucked embarrassed.

They both entered the air balloon and faced their siblings grinning, while they both got ready for it to lift off the ground.

The announcer winked at the pair and they looked at him confusedly, "Off they go!"

They were lifted off the ground and a rope was tied to it to keep it from floating away.

"Hi, I'm Kaz" he introduced himself. "Eva" she replied smiling.

They both moved to shake their hands and felt a shock at the contact and both jumped back and laughed.

While conversation was getting on the announcer and manager smirked to each other, "should we start the plan?"

"Let's" the manager replied.

Black clouds started to surround the area and the winds picked up more by the second, and the air balloon shook violently, Eva on reflex gripped onto Kaz and he in turn held her arm.

Both their siblings were worried, Priscilla gripped onto the announcer begging him to get her sister down but before he could even say a word, the line snapped and the air balloon gave way to the air and off they went.

Adam and Priscilla ran after the balloon trying to get their siblings in sight but suddenly out of no where it started raining and they could no longer see their siblings. Both started panicking and faced each other with the same question: "What are we going to do?"

****

Eva and Kaz struggle as the wind had no mercy on them and they were thrown about in the air balloon but then all of a sudden they could no longer feel the rain or hear the loud thunder that echoed in the dark skies and they peaked out from the large basket to see bright sunny skies.

"W-what happened?" Eva asked shakily.

They were even surprised more when they saw a creature with a neck with a length that couldn't be less than 40 feet, and were even more surprised when a creature of long ago flew beside them, a pterodactyl.

"That's so cool" Kaz said more excited, not seeing the seriousness of the situation.

Both looked over and saw more of what they believed would only exist in museums in the form of bones.

They both look at each other dumbfounded.

"Where are we?" They asked in sync.
