My eyes burst open as I realize what's going on around me.

Shit...
I fell asleep in math class, again.

"Y/N! Staying up too late are you?" Mr. Shirogane says to me.
"Um... Sorry sir, math class just isn't My thing" I admit. Some kids giggle but I don't turn to face them.

"Okay, well then practice makes perfect so get up here, solve this problem" He says to me as he holds out a piece of chalk in my direction.

"O-okay..." I say as I slowly stand up and take a couple steps towards him.

Then the school speaker system turns on "Y/N L/N, please come to the principal's office, Y/N L/N" The lady in the office says through the speakers.

A loud 'oh' comes from the people in this class.

I roll my eyes as Mr. Shirogane puts the chalk down and hands me the hall pass.
"Good luck" He mouths out.

I have to admit, most high school teachers suck, they're mean and think we have no life other than what's at school, but Mr. Shirogane, he's nice to me at least.
And he lets me eat in his class cause he knows I don't have many friends...

I walk down the hallway humming the song Boulevard of Brocken Dreams by Green Day
I was walking alone in this empty hallway, with my heart beating like crazy. So that song worked pretty well for my current situation.

As I entered the room the lady at the front desk, who had just called me down here looks up at me, then turns her head and nods towards the side office.

I walk up to the door and knock. "Just go in" The office lady sighs as I open the door. The principal, Mr. Shane sits in his chair behind his desk, while 1 of the 2 chairs in front of his desk are taken by, someone who I don't recognize.

"Hello Y/N, please take a seat. This is JJ, she..." Mr. Shane gets cut off. "They" JJ says to him. "They are our newest student, so Y/N I was hoping you could show JJ around, be their friend" Mr. Shane continues.
I glance over at JJ, short dark brown hair, pretty square black rimmed glasses and a green t sheet with a white v logo on the front.

"Well, before you go JJ here are your papers and Welcome to Scarlett High school!" Mr. Shane says as he stands up and hands an envelope of papers to JJ. "Thanks" JJ says as they stand up, so do I.

We take the papers and leave the office.

"So JJ, what locker number do you have?" I ask them. "Hm... 1738(I always do this)" JJ tells me as I nod. "Okay!" I'll show you to it" I inform JJ as I start leading the way.

"So what's your story?" I ask them. "What? What do you mean, my story?" JJ asks with a confused tone. "Everyone has a story... Adopted, step parents, why they moved here" I give examples of most of the people at my school. "Oh... Well, I'm gender fluid... I have a brother, my parents are still together, I'm as single as single gets... What's your story?" JJ asks me. "Me? Ah my life, it's just me and my mom. My dad left before I was born, I'm a nerd and most people here think I'm the least normal person here just because I don't think having a relationship is all that matters" I start ranting (I know this is x reader but the character has to have a back story, so if you don't agree with this then too bad).

"I know right! Everyone thinks that if you're single you're a loner or an outcast, then if you date too many people you're a hoe or a player" JJ says to me. "True that" I agree. "Now by nerd... what are you into?" I ask as I start explaining all the fandoms I'm in.

When we reach JJ's locker I lean against the locker beside their's as they un load their black galaxy backpack into their locker.

"So, where to first?" JJ asks as they grab a book titled 'Sketchbook' and a pencil case from their locker before locking up and following behind me back to class. On the way we talk about things, I tell them about Mr. Shirogane and how we can eat in his class and he'll let us play music and watch Youtube.

"Mr. Shirogane this is JJ, my new bestfriend" I smirk to JJ as they give me a wink.

"Ah, JJ I hear you're new around here, well introduce yourself to the class then take a seat" Mr. Shirogane says to JJ as they walk to the middle of the class.

"Hey. My name is Jess or Jon, but I go by JJ" JJ smiles to all of them, kinda in a 'yeah I'm genderfluid BIACH' kinda way, you know what I mean?

I smiled at JJ as I led them to where I sat, JJ sat behind me and Mr.Shirogane continued his lesson.

When the bell rang I turned around in my seat and saw JJ sketching in their sketchbook.

"What's up Picasso?" I ask as JJ looks up. "Not much" They say as I get a glimpse of the drawing of Junkrat from Overwatch before JJ closes the sketchbook. Before we leave the class I say "Shiro we'll be back for lunch.... and that's not a question!" I tell him as JJ tries to hold back a laugh. "Shiro?" JJ asks me as we walk to our next class. "Yeah, he lets me call him by his first name, it's easier" I tell JJ.

=•At Lunch•=

We meet back at Mr.Shriogane's class and move some tables around so we have more space to spread out our stuff. I break out my laptop and open up Netflix while JJ sets up their lunch and opens the Sketchbook.

"Hey, I wanna show you this cool show I love called Voltron" JJ says as I shift the laptop towards JJ. "You had me at Hey" I say as JJ starts typing in the title.

=•End of School Day•=

=•JJ's POV•=

At the end of the day I see Y/N Before I hop onto the bus home, I push through the crowd as I leave the bus and run to catch up with Y/N. "JJ What are you doing? You kinda need to get on the bus to get home" Y/N says to me. "I just wanted to say thanks! and here" I tell Y/N as I hand S/H a piece of paper then run back to the bus. "I was about to leave, you're lucky I'm feeling nice today" The bus driver says as I dive back into my seat before the bus starts moving.

I get home and grab a snack before going into my room. I take a seat at my desk, open up my laptop and play some music. then I move over to my bed, take a seat and grab my journal and a pencil. then flop down and start writing.

It's not a diary, it's a journal, I write about my life and one day when I die someone will publish it.

Today was my first day at Scarlett high, and it honestly wasn't that bad. I made my first friend, S/H name's Y/N, they're really nice and is similar to me...I've never met someone who gets me like she does. No... Not after Josh, It's still too soon...

Then I hear the very familiar sound of a Skype call.

Opps that's them, bye...

I leave my journal on my bed then jump to my desk and answer the skype call.

"JJ!" They all exclaim as the call loads.

"HEY GUYS!" I say as I get happy.

My main friends from the old place I used to live in Vermont, Bridget, Megan, and Sunni. AKA SkitosFanActs. We met at a con a while ago and we hung out for a while. I remember when I first hung out with them I was so scared I was staying longer than I should have, but they were happy with me staying. Then a while after the con I was doing my job, working and FYE when I saw a girl with a cool Attack on Titan wallet, I said it was cool then went back to doing my job. Then from out of the corner in my eye, I see the girl's head pop out from behind a rack of merchandise. "JJ?" She asks me. "Yeah?" I say as I turn to face her. "It's Bridget!" She says as we start talking, then she starts explaining how they need a Sayaka for a skit they're doing at the upcoming con. I tell her I'd be happy to do it and she gives me her Skype.
Then about a week later I message Bridget telling her I bought Sayaka's cosplay, even tho I've never seen Madoka Magica (Which I suggest you do) nor have I really spent A LOT of time with these girls. But now we are SkitsoFanActs (That's actually how they met in real life)

"How is it! New school and all?" Bridget asks me as I start to laugh to myself. "It's actually not too bad... I met this girl..." I start as they all stare at me. "JJ, I thought you weren't ready..." Megan asks me. "GUYS! I don't like her in that way... plus she wouldn't hurt me,t he way he did" I tell them as my voice trails off. "Anyways how are you fitting in? Has anyone tried to fight you?! I will slap them silly" Sunni says as she makes a fist with her hand. "Oh relax I can protect myself" I assure them as I crack my knuckles.

We talk for a while longer about Cons and stuff, I tell them I probably won't be going to the next one because it's in 2 weeks and I'm still settling in. But the next Con I will for sure be going to.

I had to end the call when my parents got home cause I was starving and they brought home Pizza.

=•10PM•=

I laid in bed, lately, I haven't been getting any sleep, now I'm just here in bed 100% ready to sleep but NO, my mind is full of memories from today that make me want to sleep so I can wake up and see Y/N again BUT I CAN'T SLEEP.

When I get a text.

Y/N: JJ ARE YOU AWAKE?
JJ: No, I'm just sleep texting...
Y/N: Oh nice... Wanna play fast 5?
JJ: SUre
Y/N: OKAY!
Y/N: Favourite colour, food, animal, show, Thing to do in free time?
JJ: Green, Pizza, Comodo dragon/chinchilla, Rick and Morty, drawing.
JJ: Favourite Show, Movie, Drink, food, fictional character.
Y/N: (Insert favorite things)

We did that until mid night when Y/N stopped answering so I assume S/H fell asleep.

=•One Month Later•=

Me and Y/N have grown very close, the weekend that had just passed Y/N invited me to sleep at her house for a sleepover.
My parents were happy I was making a fired and they let me go.
I'm not gonna lie we didn't see much, we stayed up watching movies, we watched Jaws and Jaws 2, not jaws 3 cause that one sucks, we watched all the hang we over movies and we watched some Voltron as well. It was the most fun I'd had in a long time.

It's Wednesday and we're eating Lunch in Mr.Shirogane's class like we usually do, Mr.Shirogane gave us permission to hook up Y/N's laptop to his smart board projector so we could watch Jurassic park on the big screen. Mr.Shirogane actually watched it with us. About half way through lunch some things pops in through the little mail slot that each teacher's class room door has.
Mr.Shirogane gets up and collects the mail, he opens up a folded letter revealing a poster sized piece of paper. He squints as he tried to read it with the low lighting. Then once he realizes what it is he sighs as he gets the tape and sticks it to the wall beside the door.

"Shiro what's that?" I ask him as I move Y/N mouse to pause the movie. Mr. Shirogane turns the lights on and leans against his desk. "Prom is coming up... Th principal makes us put these student made posters up to promote the cause" He informs us. "Are you guys going?" He asks us. "I don't know..." Y/N starts. "Yeah we aren't really, prom type people, ya know?" I ask. "Yeah, I see. even if you do go, a lot of people think 'oh I'm going to prom I need a date, you really don't you could just go as friends" He tells us as we shrug. "we'll think about it" Y/N says as Mr. Shirogane turns the lights off and we go back to our movie.

=•Y/N's POV•=

On the walk home I ran into a buddy of mine Ashley, or as I call her Ash. We started talking, then we somehow got on the topic of Prom.

"So are you gonna ask Frank out?" I ask her as she looks away cause she's blushing. "oh... I don't know, I think he has eyes for another girl" She says with disappointment. "Ash are you kidding me? You've known Frank for such a long time, you two are practically already a couple" I joke as Ash smiles even more. "I'll try..." She smiles. "Yeah you better" I nudged her playfully. "Anyway, what about you and JJ, they're still new but I know there's something... Magical between you two" Ash asks me trying to change the topic. "Neither of us really want to go... We'll probably just watch a movie at my place or something" I tell Ash as she sighs. "I know you have feelings for them" She says as she wiggles her eyebrows. "Whatever" I laugh at her weird faces.

That night during JJ and I's usually late night talks I thought about Prom, we could have a fun time... but you know how much drama goes on at any Prom, girls crying in the washroom because they got dumped or cheated on The guys in the corner waiting to snatch a girl who was just heart broken. The people who sneak in drinks and or drugs.

I sigh as I tell JJ I'm about to fall sleep and go to bed, but the question still lingers in my head, am I ready to ask JJ... my best friend to prom.

=•One Week later•=

I decided to ask JJ, cause why not?

and I think I found the best way to do it.

So in the movie jaws, there's a part when the local fisherman think they caught the deep sea killer, so Chief Martin Brody and his shark expert buddy take the shark and cut it open to see what it's been eating. So when they cut it open there's a license plate that slides out, after hours of editing I made the license plate look like t says 'Will go you o prom with me?' instead of just being a normal license plate. We'll watch it at lunch.

=•JJ's POV•=

Y/N and I meet up at the beginning of the day in front of the school. We sat outside for a while since it was a really nice fall day. "We should eat outside today!" I tell her spontaneously. "R-Really?" She asks me. "eah it's probably one of the last nice days we'll get for a while" I tell her as she shrugs. "Well I was gonna say we can watch Jaws since I did get the brand new realized Jaws with 3 new secret scene which were deleted from the movie in M. Shirogane's class, but whatever you want" Y/N says as she shrugs. "Jaws? Oh heck no I'm down for that!" I say as S/H smiles.

=•At Lunch•=

As we watch I notice Y/N's face get red as we approach the scene when they think they have caught the shark. But I shrug it off and keep eating my sandwich.

We're up to the part we're they cut open the shark.
I watch as Brody pulls out the different items.
Then when the license plate is thrown across the floor it looks different from what I remember.
I squint a little and notice that it says
Will you go to prom with me?
My jaw dropped.
I turned to Y/N, "what do you say?" Y/N asks with a smile.
"I... I'm sorry" I say as I get up and rich out of the class.
I run to the washroom, open the door, get inside and sit with my back against the door.
I hold my knees close to my chest as my eyes tear up.
"JJ? It's Y/N... I'm sorry I'd in rushing things I didn't mean to surprise you like that. It's just... there's something special between us" Y/N says through the door.
I use the edge of my sleep to wipe my eyes as I move aside and the door swings open. Y/N was using all S/H strength so that sends them toppling onto the ground.
A weak smile comes across my face because I know they're not hurt.
Y/N gets up and sits beside me.
"I'm sorry... It's just, the real reason I moved from Vermont was because... I had a boyfriend, named Josh. He was okay, but after a while... When I told him I was gender fluid. He flipped, said I should be one thing or another no inbetween. I told him I could do whatever I wanted and he slapped me" By then tears had leaked out of my eyes and dropped onto my sweater. Y/N wrapped their arms around me as I cried into their chest.
"It's okay if your not ready..." Y/N says in an almost disappointed tone.
"Wither way I'll still be going, my buddy Ash is dragging me with her, you don't have to come, it's okay" They tell me.
We sat there for the rest of lunch.

For the next week things were awkward between us, we didn't talk as much but we still did everything we used to do, except the late night texting.
Prom was in 2 days and I still didn't know what to do...

=•Y/N 's POV•=
I stood in front of my full body mirror, look at myself in my F/C dress (add description of your dream dress).
I sighed. I haven't heard from JJ since school. So doubt they'll be going...

But I pulled myself together and went to the front door. My mom took some photos of me all dressed up and I gave her the best smile I could muster up.

Ashley came and picked me up, well actually Frank came with Ashley. I didn't want them to but they both wanted to do it so I accepted.

The thing is, I didn't feel like a third wheel, we all talked as a group, actually Ash sat in the back with me while Frank drove. Ash wore a stunning purple dress (her formal Allura cosplay dress) and Frank had a matching purple tie which I thought was adorable.

The school gym was now turned into a disco party. There were bright lights flashing through the darkness, a DJ playing music and a hell tonne of decorations. There was drinks and food as well, not too bad of a party.

After about an hour of dancing and watching all the drama go down, I feel a had on my shoulder. I turn around and am greeted by JJ wearing a nice black suit and a black tie.

"YOU CAME!" I say as I realize how loud I said that and covered my mouth in embarrassment. JJ smirks at my embarrassment. "You came" I say again in a normal voice. "Yeah... I thought about everything and I think it's time to move on... from Josh" JJ says as I nod my head. "Good idea... Now shall we dance?" I ask JJ as they nod at me and then I lead them to the dance floor.

We danced the entire night, until people started getting drunk and piling up on the dance floor.
So we went outside, it was lightly raining we walked and talked.

We both stop walking and turn to face each other. "So what does this make us?" I asked JJ as they turned to face me. "Well... we could be a couple, it's up to you" JJ says to me. "Couple it is" I smile as I push JJ making them lean back against the street lamp behind them then kissed JJ, right on the lips. IT felt so good, our lips moved in sync and all I could do was smile.

"Oh god I love you" JJ says as we pull apart.
