She Should be Here, Yet you Don't Believe Me
Valorie's eyes slowly opened, looking around to see that she was sitting in the corner of the Inn again, the only difference being that it was almost completely dark. She grabbed at her tank top to adjust it, but only felt her coat. She looked down to see that she was wearing her usual, dark green coat. "Huh? When? How? I...what?" She slowly stood, walking to the table near her corner and looked through her bag, seeing everything in there as well as her sword laying next to the bag on the table.
"How did...how did I...get this...back? I...I buried it with...Jaye..." Valorie looked around before quietly leaving the Inn, walking to the woods to find the grave she had made for her friend.
Valorie came to the small clearing where she had buried her friend Jaye, about a mile from Zack's camp, finding no grave or markings in sight. She knew she marked it, what happened? Did someone unmark the grave? Was she in the wrong place? She started panicking slightly as she fell to her knees. "Where...where is...is Jaye...? Where...J-Jaye..." Valorie reached her hand to the sword, grabbing the handle but hesitated. She shook her head, letting go of the sword and stood up before walking to Zack's camp.
She arrived at the edge of the camp, hearing people and chose to climb up into a tree to watch. She saw the man she had hugged talking to Zack. Of course, she had made the mistake of chirping, setting Zackary off as he reached for his back, trying to grab something but there was nothing on his back. The man, however, had seen Zack's reaction and quickly pulled a knife out, throwing it at Valorie.
Val, being perched in the tree, yelped as a knife flew past her face, grazing it and leaving a thin wound across her cheek. She almost fell out of the tree. "I DON'T MEAN ANY HARM, I'M JUST LOOKING FOR MY FRIEND JAYE"
Zackary sounded confused as he asked, " Wait, you know the rat bastard? "
The winged girl jumped down from the tree, or maybe she just tried to mask the fact that she had actually fallen, either way, Val landed on her feet, the feathers of her wings fluffing up. She brushed herself off before she took a few steps into the camp, close enough to hold a conversation with the two in the camp but not close enough for her to hit her with a close ranged weapon. "Um, yeah, I know her...she's my friend. She died a few days ago, maybe closer to a week, but I just went to her grave after waking up wearing this coat that I buried with her, but I couldn't find the grave. I can't find her spirit or body either..." She was going to start rambling if she continued any longer.
"I'm sorry, but when did Jaye show up? I know I remember nothing of the last few weeks, but I thought she was on C-126-" Zackary was interrupted by a sudden coughing fit, coughing up a decent amount of blood. Valorie watched him in concern.
The man seemed to recognize her from a few weeks ago and tried to explain, "It's probably because of the reset, it happens-" He's cut off by Zack's coughing fit and turned his attention back to Zack, standing to help. "Hey, try to keep your mouth open and take deep breaths when you can," The man lowered Zack to the ground and tried to lay him on his size.
Valorie was shaking a little bit, nothing too noticeable, however the blood from the knife grazing her cheek was running down her face slightly, "Is...he gonna be okay?"
Zack is fine shortly after. " Holy hell, I feel like shit ," he rolls onto his back.
"I'd assume so." The man grabbed a bottle of water and handed it to Zack after opening it, "Drink. You can always give me another later."
Valorie took a few more steps towards the two as she watched Zack hold his cybernetic arm out to where a coffee cup had been set down, even though it was a solid few yards away. The cup suddenly flew into his hand and he took a sip, appearing to not realize he had magnetic powers due to being out of it. Valorie flinched at the sound as the mug hit Zack's hand. "S-so..."
The man blinked before seeming to dismiss it. "That works too, I suppose." He took the bottle back and took a sip before screwing the cap back on.
Valorie took a few more steps, now standing beside the man.
"God, I must've been through some hell to end up like this, makes me miss JA-R0."
"W-who?" Val tilted her head.
The man pointed at Zack, just saying "Zack" as if it were a proper answer.
"Mmmmmmm...so...Jaye?" Valorie sounded hopeful.
The man from a few weeks ago shrugged and shook his head, "I can't say I'm familiar."
"Like I said, didn't realize she was on this world kid."
Valorie looked down at her feet and mumbled, " You were here though...you saw her...you talked to her...you tried to hurt her... "
Apparently Valorie had spoken louder than she thought as Zack replied. "Oh yeah, I tried to hurt her, sure, it's always my fault with Jaye- wait, where's my flask? " Zack began searching his person for his flask.
"No you...you," Val was obviously upset, not happy at all. "You...hurt her...you threw her with some kind of...red energy among other things."
"Did it go missing? If so, check the library, things tend to pop up there," The man ignored Valorie.
She stood there, watching for a moment before deciding to walk off into the forest, the opposite direction of the town.
She had decided to walk deeper into the forest, not stopping until the plants started scratching at her sleeves and legs. Her wings were also getting snagged by a few vines. She climbed up into a tree and sat on a branch, curling up the best she could before going to sleep.
