Valorie woke up suddenly, everything felt off. She could tell that her wing was healed, but still not enough to fly, meaning she would have to deal with only walking for a few more days. She glanced down at her belt and her sword was gone, causing her to start panicking. She quickly got up from the corner, frantically looking around the Inn for the sword.
She flinched, her wings wrapping around her, as a red light appeared from behind her, turning everything in the Inn a shade of red. Val looked over at the window, revealing a huge red portal in the sky, over a portion of the forest. If she remembered correctly, that was where Zack's camp was.
After a few minutes, Valorie managed to calm herself down, her wings relaxing and folding to her back again. She fixed the blankets in the corner then grabbed the messenger bag she claimed, unfolding her coat and carefully putting it on. She put the bag on her shoulder and slowly got up, leaving the inn. She was slightly worried about the red sky but continued to quickly walk towards the forest, trying to find where she first got to this world.
Fifteen minutes had passed as Valorie was walking through the forest. She stopped walking to take a better look around where she was. As she looked, she found tracks on the ground, more specifically, tracks from an ATV. "T-Tracks! From...from the...the ATV!" Val started following, but she wasn't sure why. She just had a feeling that they would take her to or somewhere near her sword.
Valorie had walked to the camp after another few minutes, freezing as she saw the woman from the previous day investigating a crater in the middle of the camp. From the corner of her eye, Val saw a faint red glow coming from the treeline across from her. This caused Valorie to run over to the woman investigating the crater, grabbing her arm and staring at the glow. "Red...glow...treeline......bad feeling..."
"Oh hey- what?" The woman looked up before a pulse of red energy threw her back into a tree, missing Valorie.
Valorie watched as a man walked out of the opposite side of the forest from where Val came from. He looked to be in his late teens, being about average height and having brown hair with a few streaks/highlights of a reddish-purple, though the sides and back seemed to have been buzzed clean and the right side of his head had a large, mechanical panel with a visible metallic plate. He wore a black hoodie and jeans, as well as steel-toed boots. His right arm was replaced by a futuristic-looking, mechanical arm. Areas of the arm glowed red, giving off a menacing look. He held his mechanical arm out, holding a red energy ball, crackling with electricity, in his hand. His voice was slightly distorted as he spoke, "You should have gone back Jaye."
Valorie stood there, shaking, before taking a few steps back. Her eyes quickly scanned everywhere, she knew her sword was there, she could sense it, but where was it?
" What the hell happened to- "
The man smirked, "I've evolved, and I'm here to cleanse this world of the Plague that has infected it. "Then the man merely panned his gaze over to where Valorie was, "And who would you be?"
Valorie was back against a tree at this point, gripping the strap of the messenger ag, trying to find that very faint purple glow from her sword, "V-Val...orie..."
"Well it's too bad Valorie, you showed up at the wrong time," He turned and walked over towards the box she had tried to open previously. He presses his metal arm down against the opening. The normally blue glowing segments turned red as it opened, and he found his Portal gun was gone. "Jaye, what did you do-"
Jaye slowly picked herself up again, "What do you me-" The second she stood, she was hit by another red energy blast.
"It...IT WAS LIKE THAT WHEN YOU WERE GONE!" Valorie took off running to the side, going a little bit farther into the trees. She was close to the sword at this point, she could feel its energy from where she was. As she continued to look, she listened to what was happening.
"What. Did. You. Do."
" What happened to you? " She could hear the woman, Jaye, start coughing.
Valorie quickly found her sword, having found it stabbed into the ground, she quickly pulled it out. She then ran back to the edge of the camp, perched and ready to jump down.
"Oh, so now you started caring about what I've been through. Typical. " The man, who she assumes to be Zack, tossed Jaye aside. When Jaye hit the ground, something definitely should have been broken, but from what Valorie saw, Jaye looked perfectly fine.
Valorie watched as Zack held his arm out, charging up another energy shot, and blasted it, not at Jaye, rather at the ATV. The machine was engulfed in the red energy as it began to tear itself apart and reassemble itself on Zack's body. The ATV shifted into a pair of demonic wings, a turbine in each of the wings. The wings glowed with the same red energy as the balls of electricity as the turbines revved to life, taking Zack to the skies.
Valorie jumped down from the tree, landing on her feet, and rushed over to check on Jaye. "Ma'am? Are you okay?"
Jaye groaned. "Yeah, just a little bruised up is all," She said this, however, her body had no visible bruises. Hell, Jaye didn't even look hurt at all. Valorie tried to help Jaye up, managing to help her up fairly easily, however, she seemed relatively heavy given her physical size. All kinds of things appeared to be off with this girl. "Thanks... I have a bad feeling about all of this. "
"Yeah...was...that Zack? The...one everyone was...talking about?"
"It was , I have no clue what that Ultron wannabe was."
"Ah..." Valorie watched as Jaye walked over to the box Zack held earlier, still open and finding that the portal gun was missing.
"Wait- I swear the portal gun was in here...uh oh. "
Valorie had followed Jaye, putting her sword in its holding place on her belt. "That thing has been missing...what's wrong now?"
"Wait, you knew it was missing?"
Valorie tilted her head, "Yeah? Maybe it was in another box?" Valorie suggested, but she knew it wasn't there. She watched as Jaye got up, entering the hologram protected tent, walking back out after presumably checking the other boxes.
"The other two ain't got it."
Valorie hummed this time, "Explains the energy difference."
"Energy difference? What do you mean by that?"
"It had like...an energy or magic source...right? Where I'm from, people like me could sense these sources, it helped us navigate and get around...it's how I found my sword," She tapped said sword with her hand as she mentioned it.
"Huh...never been to a universe with magic before...Zack says he's been to a place called 'Kaladesh', but I don't know if that's any relevance to you."
Val shrugged. "Not off the top of my head...my world was starting to go into the process of destruction, at least in some places. Everything was messed up, destroyed, or shifted in those areas, it injured people severely and most likely fucked up cities...but I can't do anything about it now, we're all stuck here for now." Valorie looked down at her sword in thought before shaking her head and turning her attention back to Jaye. "So...what do we do now?"
"I...Don't kno-," Jaye suddenly cut herself off, seeming to have seen something.
Valorie didn't move, but her voice was quieter as she spoke, " What did you see? "
"Nothing...We should probably head back to town."
" Not sharing could get us killed. "
"Staying out here could do the same."
Valorie sighed, scanning the area for another vehicle and any kind of danger. "Quickly grab anything that could be useful, then we'll go...I guess."
"I think taking Zack's shit will just piss him off more...best to just go." With that, Jaye began walking in the direction of the town.
Valorie stared at the camp before chasing after Jaye, doing her best to walk right beside the woman once she caught up.
Valorie looked through her bag as the two walked into town, watching Jaye look to the sky out of the corner of her eye. "...I hate this place."
"Can't say I blame you."
"I wanna go home...oh well..."
"I mean...you could have if we had the portal gun."
Valorie shrugged, "We probably won't see it for a while...and what says we won't be dragged back here?"
"Zack left before, so there has to be a way."
"But was he gone for long?"
"Not long, but he did choose to come back. Some Satan wannabe brought him back."
"...did he though?"
"I've known Zack for a long ass time, he wouldn't do anything he didn't want to do."
"...we won't be leaving anytime soon." With that, Val walked away from Jaye, sitting on the edge of the fountain. She watched as Jaye began to head to the Inn before stopping, looking down the alleyway before walking down it. Valorie watched the alleyway entrance, waiting for Jaye to come back, but she never did.
" Idon'tlikethis ," Valorie quickly pulled her sword out and walked over to the alley Jaye disappeared into. There was no sign that Jaye had even been there. " Fuckfuckfuckityfuckfuck- " Besides her muttering, Valorie was silent while searching the alley, still not finding Jaye. It was almost like Jaye had just disappeared into non-existence.
Valorie had decided to climb up onto a building, using some crates to help her get up to the rooftop. She looked around from her vantage point, still not seeing Jaye. This worried her, but there didn't seem to be anything she could do right now. Like the man from the previous night said, if someone didn't want to be found, they wouldn't be. Valorie sat on the edge of the building, watching as the sun slowly began to sit. However, something was off, Val watched as a wave of red energy seemed to be coming towards the town. She quickly stood up, beginning to climb down, but it was too late. The wave hit her and everything went dark.
