A Memorable Gift
Author's Note: I know Mother's Day is really far away however I just found this in my drafts and decided to post it now since I had forgotten to post it last year and I'm too impatient to wait. Anyway I hope you enjoy this even though it's really late/really early depending on how you look at it.
"Otay we have created this meeting cause we have a very important day coming up," the small girl told her friends who nodded in agreement. "Mal's right! It's Mother's Day tomorrow! This is where our cuteness comes into play," the seven year old told her cousins and Mal who nodded again.
"Okay so then what are we doing this year!" Alex asked the others as the six kids were having a playdate while their moms were talking in the other room. "We could try coupon books! Mommy always loves that!" Logan told his twin brother who nodded in agreement as he remembered how happy his mommy had been when they gave her the coupon books last year and the year before that and the year before that.
"I like that idea," Sebastian and Diego both agreed while Olivia just rolled her eyes and Mal just looked confused as she didn't understand what a coupon book even was. "What is a coupon book," Mal asked her friends who looked at her like she was crazy for not knowing what that was.
"A coupon book is the best! You just write cute stuff that you can give to your mommy. Our mommies always love them," Sebastian told the preschooler and the other kids nodded. "Yeah but we do that every year! And most of us are getting too old for the simple coupon book! We gotta up it this year!" Olivia told her cousins as she was getting sick of the coupon books that they would give their mommies every year.
"Okay well Mal what about you. What do you normally do for your mommy," Alex asked the younger girl who just smiled. "I get mommy apples! And a card that I make! She loves it!" Mal told the others.
"That's all you do!" The boys asked the young girl, making her feel bad as she stopped smiling. "Hey leave Mal alone! She's only 4 remember! Besides I was there with her for her first Mother's Day and her mommy did love that! The apples are important to Mal's family alright! And you only do the same coupon book every year!" The slightly older girl told her cousins who just looked down as they knew Olivia was right.
"Okay you have a point. Sorry Mal," the boys all told the younger girl who smiled again as she felt better. "It's otay! I forgive you. But what do we do for our mommies now! I wanna do something different this year!" The preschooler told her friends who nodded again.
"Okay so no coupon books and no apples. We can work with that!" Olivia told the others who all agreed. "Ooh I got it! Mommy always loves when I do arts and crafts!" Mal told the others as she was trying to think of what to get for her mommy.
"Yeah! Ooh I got it!" Olivia screamed out excitedly as she finally thought of the perfect Mother's Day present. "Really what is it!" All the kids practically screamed out at the same time as they wanted to know what their cousin/best friend came up with.
"Okay so our mommies like arts and crafts, but they also love memory stuff. What if we made a necklace with our fingerprints! It's arts and crafts and memories. Bam perfect Mother's Day present! You're welcome," the slightly older girl told the younger ones who smiled as they loved the idea and thought it was perfect too.
"Yeah! But wait how do we make that," Sebastian asked his older cousin who just smiled. "Just follow me! I know what to do, trust me," the first grader told the others who nodded as they followed after Olivia letting her take the lead.
"What are they up to this time," Olivia's mom jokingly asked the others as the kids had been hiding out in Mal's room and it was obvious they were trying to be sneaky and secretive. "I don't know. We could always use the cameras or Alexa," Evie suggested to the other moms who were about to respond when they were cut off.
"Oh my gosh are you kidding me right now," Lola asked the others as she was listening in on Evie and the other moms and couldn't believe some of the ridiculous things she was hearing from them all.
"What?" Evie asked her sister who just rolled her eyes. "What do you mean by what! This is ridiculous. You can't just spy on your kids," Lola told Evie and the other moms who just rolled their eyes a little.
"We're not spying. It's just simply checking up on them," Evie told Lola who just scoffed. "Yeah okay. Well if you need me I'm going to check up on your kids the right way by not spying on them," Lola told Evie and the other moms as she got up and made her way towards Mal's room not being able to spend anymore time with Evie and her crazy mom friends.
Lola was shocked though when she went to Mal's room and found that she couldn't open the door as something was blocking it. "Mal! Open the door," Lola called out to the preschooler who looked at her friends who were nodding their heads yes as they needed Lola to help with the next part of their presents, but Mal didn't want to because she wasn't just making stuff for her mommy, but for her aunties too who were like her mommies sometimes.
And that included Lola. "I can't sorry Auntie Lola," Mal told Lola, making her roll her eyes as Mal really thought she would just accept that answer. "Mal I am giving you 5 seconds to open this door before I force it open and by the way you should be thanking me your crazy moms want to spy on you all," Lola told the kids making the others move while Mal still tried to block the door.
"Mal come on she's gonna break the door down if we don't! Remember last time! Besides, we need her! She can work the fire monster!" Olivia told her friend who just sighed when the others all joined in and agreed with Olivia.
"Otay fine but she can't see it!" Mal quickly told her friends who smiled and nodded as they put a sheet over their necklaces that were on a pan waiting to go in the oven. "Okay I think we should let her in now," Logan told the others who nodded as Mal opened the door letting Lola in.
"Finally okay wow what are you guys up to," Lola playfully asked the kids when she saw the art supplies out and it looked like the kids were being secretive.
"Nothing Auntie Lola but we need you to help us use the fire monster again! Pwease!" Mal told Lola who just looked at the kids as she could tell they were up to something but she honestly didn't really care.
It's not like she was in charge or anything that was on the actual parents to deal with. "Yeah sure why not. What is this anyway," Lola asked the kids as she tried to look at the items under the cover but Mal quickly stopped her not wanting her Auntie Lola to see it yet.
"It's nothing Auntie Lola just please help us," Mal quickly told Lola who just sighed as she looked at the kids as she knew it was obvious Mal wasn't going to give in and tell her what it was.
"Alright come on. I'll put these in the fire monster, but if your moms get mad that's on you not me," Lola told the kids who all nodded making her smile in approval. "Okay good!" Lola told the kids as she took their items and placed them in the oven for them.
"Yay! Thank you auntie Lola," the small preschooler quickly told Lola, making her laugh as she ruffled Mal's hair. "No problem kid, but just let me know when you want those to come out. I don't want you burning your hands," Lola told the young kids who all nodded.
When Lola was done checking up on the kids she went back to the living room where she saw Evie and her mom friends still talking. "Oh my gosh you will never believe what I just heard from Kate about Amber and her mother!" Olivia's mom told the others making Lola roll her eyes as mom gossip was always so boring to listen to.
"Oh my gosh what did Kate say!" Lola asked in her fake over the top voice that she always did when making fun of Evie's mom side along with her mom friends. Evie just groaned as she looked at her sister. "Lola, will you stop! This is important! Amber is the bully girl that bullied Mal," Evie told Lola as she was getting annoyed with Lola and her attitude.
Evie liked hanging out with her other mom friends too; it was the only time where she could actually relate to others and get advice about Mal. She loves her sisters and her friends, but they don't know too much about kids plus they don't know what it's like to be a full time parent like her mom friends do.
"Oh well, in that case. What did that b... and b... Junior do this time!" Lola asked, actually getting interested now as she hated anyone that hurt her family, especially her niece.
"Oh but I thought mom gossip was boring," Evie told Lola sarcastically, making Lola roll her eyes as she looked at the four moms. "That's different, this involves a bully that hurt my niece. Now again what did they do this time!" Lola asked, making the moms laugh as they all continued on with their gossip this time with Lola actually contributing.
"Auntie Lola, we need you!" The four year old screamed out a few hours later once their gifts were ready making Lola groan as she had actually been enjoying the mom gossip.
"Really now but it's just getting good," Lola told the young kids, making Mal give her the puppy dog eyes as she knew no one could resist them. "Pwease Aunie Wowa. We need you," Mal told Lola with her puppy dog eyes making Lola not be able to resist as she got up.
"Ugh you're lucky you're cute. Alright I'm coming so what did u make anyway," Lola told the kids as she turned the oven off and got the tray out. She was about to try and look again when the kids started freaking out making her back up.
"Alright lesson learned don't look under the sheet. Anyway I'm going to go back now let me know if you need any more help. And that tray is hot so be careful," Lola told the kids as she ran off back to where the moms were making the kids smile as they knew all the adults were distracted.
"Yay come on let's go finish these off in Mal's room. Hurry, I think we're gonna leave soon," The kids all exclaimed as they carefully took the tray back to the room.
"And done! There we go now we have all our Mother's Day presents wrapped up and with the cards we made! We did it! Now we just gotta wait till Sunday and we give it to them. We did good today," Olivia told the other kids who all smiled proudly as they looked at their gifts that they made.
"Olivia!" "Diego! Sebastian!" "Logan! Alex!" "Come on, we're leaving now!" All 3 moms called out, making the kids all look at each other as they quickly ran off to hide again while Mal just went out to be the distraction again.
"Oh Mal there you are. Where are the others?" Evie asked the preschooler who just pretended to look clueless again like she did every time her friends would have to leave.
"Um, I don't know. They disappeared. Uh oh now you gotta go home without them," Mal told the adults, making them laugh as they already knew this trick.
"Oh I see well then I guess we'll just never see them ever again. I guess Mother's day this year is going to be a disaster since we won't even have our kids with us," the other three moms told the young girl knowing that their kids could easily hear them.
"It's okay you can borrow Mal. I'm sure she would love to fill in for all of you all day whenever you want," Evie told the young girl whose eyes widened in panic as she shook her head no.
"No, I give up! They're hiding again! Pwease no make me go away and live with them!" Mal cried out as she quickly ran off to get her friends, making the 5 adults laugh as they found it adorable and funny how the kids always tried to play this trick every time.
"Finally peace and quiet!" Evie told Lola once the kids had all gone home and Mal was passed out asleep on top of them from all the excitement of having her friends over earlier.
"Yeah I know although I do have to admit. Your weird mom friends are actually pretty cool," Lola told Evie, making her smile. "I knew you would say that," Evie told her sister, making Lola laugh.
"Yeah and hey look she's completely out cold. Looks like you'll get to sleep in tomorrow," Lola playfully told Evie making her laugh as Evie knew Mal.
"Yeah, no chance tomorrow is Mother's Day. She'll be up bright and early, probably trying to make breakfast which reminds me I'm going to need the four of you to make sure she doesn't try to make breakfast by herself tomorrow. I would do it myself but last time I did that she started crying and claiming that it's supposed to be breakfast in bed," Evie told Lola making her laugh as she looked at the sleeping little girl.
"Yeah that sounds like her," Lola told Evie who smiled and nodded. "Yeah it's cute but I worry that she's going to hurt herself or burn down the house," Evie told Lola who laughed again.
"You know I almost burned a house down when I was babysitting for someone," Lola told Evie, making her look at her sister in shock. "Oh my gosh! You did not!" Evie exclaimed, making Lola laugh as she couldn't help it she found Evie's reaction hilarious.
"Oh I did and I also put too much laundry soap in the washing machine and the soap went everywhere. It was pretty awesome," Lola told her slightly older sister, making Evie look at her again in shock.
"You did not!" Evie cried out causing Lola to smirk as she pulled out her phone and pulled up the pictures then showed them to Evie. "Still don't believe it?" Lola asked Evie with a smirk.
"Wow you really did! I bet she killed you! I would have lost it if someone did that to my house," Evie told Lola, making her laugh. "Nope she never found out actually," Lola told her sister.
"That's honestly insane. Anyway it's starting to get late we should probably get to sleep," Evie told Lola who nodded as they both went to bed.
"Wakie! Wakie! Wakie!" Evie woke up to the next morning making her laugh as she looked at the excited little girl who was jumping on top of her.
"Okay I'm up," Evie playfully told the preschooler as she picked her up and tickled her making Mal giggle as she tried to get away.
"Hehe mommy that tickles! Oo mommy! Happy Mother's Day mommy! I love you!" Mal squealed out as she broke free from Evie's tickling fingers and hugged onto her making Evie smile as she hugged back.
"Aw thank you Mal. And I love you too," Evie cooed out to the small girl making her giggle happily. "Yay! Oh mommy I have a surprise for you!" Mal cried out happily making Evie laugh as she looked at the excited little girl.
"You do!" Evie asked with her over the top exaggerated voice making Mal giggle. "Yeah but you can only see it when everyone else is awake cause it's for everyone," Mal told Evie who smiled as she helped Mal down.
"Okay well then in that case go wake them up," Evie playfully told the little girl making her laugh as she got down and ran off to wake up the others.
"Morning!" Evie called out with a smirk as she watched the four others come out and tiredly sit down on the couch after Mal had just woken them all up.
"Ugh why do you keep telling her to wake us up," April told Evie who just fake shrugged as she looked at them all. Evie was loving having other people around that would have to suffer through the early mornings with her as well.
"She said she had a surprise and wanted all of us here for it," Evie told the others, but before they could respond Mal came running back in with five bags.
"Happy Mother's Day!" Mal called out excitedly as she handed them all a bag making them look at the little girl in shock as they weren't expecting this.
"You got all of us Mother's Day stuff?" Ava asked the little girl who smiled and nodded. "I know I only have one mommy who's the bestest mommy in the whole entire world! But I also have my Aunties who take care of me too and who are also like my mommy! And I love them! Are you mad at me? I sowy. I no mean to," Mal told them all as she was starting to feel bad.
She had only been trying to show her aunties that she loved them too, but it was obvious they didn't seem to like it at least that's what she was getting from it.
"No kid, don't apologize. We're not mad at you," Lola told the small girl, making her look at the other four. "You're not?" Mal asked, making all five young adults smile as they pulled her close.
"Of course not. We're touched. It just shocked us at first because that was the first time you ever said anything like that before," Tessa told Mal, making her blush a little as she smiled.
"It's true! So do you take the gifts cause I can get rid of them if not," Mal told them all, making them all shake their heads no as they all opened up the gifts.
"Oh my gosh! Mal is this your fingerprint in a heart locket necklace," Evie asked the little girl who smiled and nodded.
"Yeah I made them! Do you like them?" Mal asked the five young adults who all smiled as they pulled the preschooler into a group hug.
"We love them," the quints all told Mal, making her excited as she knew she had done good. "Really! You love it!" Mal asked excitedly, making them all laugh as they nodded and put their new necklaces on.
"Of course we do kid! And I'm guessing this is why I wasn't allowed to see what you were making yesterday," Lola playfully asked the little girl who giggled. "Maybe! You really like it?" Mal told them all.
"Of course sweetie. I'm never going to take this off except for at night and when I shower," Evie told her daughter, making the purple haired girl smile again as she hugged Evie.
"Me too," April told Mal and the other three joined in as well causing Mal to become even happier as she knew she had gotten them all something they would cherish forever.
"Yay! I did good! I love you," Mal told all five young adults, making them laugh as they pulled her into another group hug.
"And we love you too!" The quints all told the preschooler as they just looked at their new matching necklaces feeling happy that they had been doing a good enough job to get such a memorable and loving gift that they for sure would be cherishing forever.
