Wing It Like Witches

Today at school, Willow decided to show me a cool trick with her plant magic earlier this morning. She made an eggplant with my face. "Are you trying to tell me something?" I asked. "If this is about Grom, I told you I was sorry." "No, silly. You put King's needs before your own." Willow replied. "That's what I really like about you." "No way! Do me next! Do me!" A student begged as Willow repeated her spell. "Welcome to the world, little buddy. You're the coolest, Willow." "Aw, shucks." Willow blushed. "Yeah, Willow rules!" Another student cheered. "Wow, she has to make friends with plants." The bitch in pink teased. "How sad." I gave her the finger. "Oh, please." Amity rolled her eyes. "You know, I used to be like you, Boscha, obsessed with status, challenging my competition. But I grew up. When will you?" Everyone began laughing at Boscha, and I knew she was pissed.

Luz met up with us later in history class. "Over 50 years ago, Emperor Belos appointed a head witch to each coven." The teacher explains. "I can't wait for Grudgby season to start." Luz said. "I studied up with Peter on all sorts of magical sports like this, Good Witch Azura 2: The Field of Deadly Fates. A classic underdog tale." "Azura challenges Hecate in the smibbitch championship. But will she risk it all by taking on the deadly Thorn Vault?" Willow read, opening the dvd case. "Ooh, a cookie." Gus said, almost eating the disc. "Not food." I explained. "The council headquarters was built and paid for by..." The teacher said. "Anyone? Willow?" "Uh, the Pixie Dust taxes?" Willow guessed. "Impressive, Miss Park." The teacher complimented. "What's going on? It's like all of Hexside has caught Willow fever!" Luz wondered. "Ever since I patched things up with Amity, I've been feeling more confident." Willow explains. All of a sudden, her hair clip floated right into Boscha's hand. "Aw, Willow thinks she's popular now. How cute." Boscha joked. "Hey, I agree. My girlfriend is cute." I replied. "But give that back!" "It's weird that Amity hangs out with you now." Boscha said. "Ever since Grom, she's gone soft. I almost mistake her for Alexa now. But don't worry, I'm still here to show you who's boss." Gus snatched the clip and gave it back to Willow. "Oh, the friends wanna get in on this too, huh?" Boscha mumbled, casting a spell circle and dumped out all of Willow's stuff on us and burst into laughter. "Is that laughter?" The teacher asked. "Hey! Learning isn't supposed to be fun!" Facts. "We're having zero fun, I swear." Luz explains. "Boscha's picking on us." "My apologies, sir. I was practicing my aim for Grudgby." Boscha lied, acting all innocent. "Boscha, how could you throw things at them when you could throw things at me?" The teacher asked. "Am I over here? Or am I over here? Anything for the captain of the Banshees." "Aw, thanks, but I already have the perfect targets." Boscha said, sticking her gum in Willow's hair. "Don't worry, it's not like she can follow us around all day, right?" Luz asked.

Many miserable hours later...

Boscha pranked us all day and we were covered in shit. "She followed us around all day." Luz said. "She literally followed us around all day!" "I'm gonna take Boscha's third eye and shove it up her bitchy ass!" I threatened. "Easy there, big guy." Gus said. "I'm really sorry I pulled you guys into this." Willow sighed. "We should've just kept a low profile. Boscha could get away with murder if she wanted to." "What's this? Boscha got away with murder?" Principal Bump asked. "I can't say I approve, but at least she's trying new things." "We will find a way out of this." Luz said as she noticed Amity walked away. "Amity." "Oh, Luz, you're here." Amity gasped. "I mean, obviously you're here, this is school, and you go here now, with me. I've been talking for too long." "Amity, we need your help." Luz said. "Yes, I can help!" Amity quickly replied. "With what, exactly?" "Boscha won't stop picking on Willow, and no one will do anything about it because she's the Star Captain of the Grudgby Team." Luz explains. "Yeah, this time of year, she's extra unbearable." Amity sighed. "You're friends with her, can you help us?" Luz asked. "The hard part is there's no reasoning with Boscha." Amity replied. "She only speaks in Grudgby terms." "Okay, okay. I'm picking up what you're putting down." Luz nodded. "I'm not putting anything down." Amity said, confused. Willow freaked out as trash was dumped on her by Boscha the Bitch. "Willow, what happened?" Luz asked. "Boscha happened." Willow replied. "Hey, Willow, I just thought all the trash should stay in one spot." Boscha teased. "Gus, let go of me and LET ME AT HER!" I raged. "That's it!" Luz snapped. "Boscha, Willow challenges you to a Grudgby match!" "She what?" Boscha asked, dropping the trash can on Gus. "I what?" Willow repeated. "She what?" Gus added. "Seriously, what's going on here?" "Luz, what are you doing?" I asked. "I'm just following Amity's advice." Luz replied. "Boscha only speaks in Grudgby terms. Trust me, I have a plan." "Okay, maybe it's the altitude of the second floor, but I thought I heard you say that Leaf Girl wanted to challenge me to a Grudgby match." Boscha said. "That's right. We'll settle this once and for all on the field." Luz explains. "Or we could just talk about our issues." Willow suggested. "Let's do this." Boscha said. "Oh, shit." I cursed. "If Willow's team wins, you don't get to pick on her anymore." Luz explains. "Right, and when we win, Willow and your team will be our water gofers." Boscha replied. "Ha! That's not even a punishment, I love water." Luz whispered. "And we get to use you as target practice." Boscha added walking away with her minions. "See you after school, losers."

All of us went to the front of the school to talk about the game. "Luz, this isn't a good idea." Amity warned. "Yeah. I've never even played Grudgby before." Willow explains. "How am I supposed to beat Boscha?" "But you're the better witch." Luz said. "I don't know much about sports, but I do know about sports movies. We, too, are a ragtag team of lovable misfits joined together to defeat a powerful enemy. With a little team spirit and a training montage, we can win." "Boscha will regret hurting Willow." I replied. "Well, if you think this'll work, then I'm in." Willow said. "How about you, Gus?" "In seasons past, these flags have waved in support of Grudgby greats." Gus explains. "Now, they will wave for the greatest. Me!" "What about you, Amity?" Luz asked. "Me? On a team with you? Running around in cute uniforms? Sweating?" Amity panicked. "I gotta go!" "Huh, well, I guess she's out." Luz said. "In any case, let's get training."

In order to train, we had to use the Grudgby field. "So, how exactly do we play Grudgby?" I asked. "Well, there's a ball. And you score by getting the ball through the other team's goal." Gus explains. "That sounds easy." Luz said. "It is, except..." Willow created a leaf and blew it onto the field, and it was destroyed by a bunch of hidden death traps. "Oh, right. Boiling Isles." I said. "Should've predicted this." "Alright, every great sports story includes a great training montage." Luz explains. "What's a montage?" Gus asked.

After a quick montage to answer Gus's questions, he understood now. "Oh, I get it, now." Gus said. "Wait, were we just having a tea party in animal jammies?" "What happens in the montage stays in the montage." Luz explains. "Now let's hit the field." We struggled with training for a while. We stopped once Gus was injured. "Gus?" Willow asked. "Talk to me, Gus." "I think something's broken." Gus said pulling out his flags, which snapped in half. "My flags! I never should've tried to play. You were always enough for me." As Gus was sobbing his eyes out, Willow noticed that her hair clip was broken. "Come on, Gus. I have some floral tape in the greenhouse." Willow grunted. "We'll fix them." "Okay." Gus cried. "Guys, let's try the Thorn Vault one more time." Luz said. "Not now, Luz." Willow explains. "We're tired." "But, we're the underdogs, we gotta keep trying." Luz replied. "Luz, not everything can be solved with a good attitude and a dope music soundtrack." Willow said. "We're going to lose, and no movie can prevent that. The game's off." "Willow, wait!" I called, following her.

At the greenhouse, I brought some IV drips because Gus thinks his flags should be on life support. "I worry about you, Gus." I said. "There, that ought to do it." Willow explains, taping the IV drips to the broken flags. "These are flags of surrender, now." Gus whimpered. "Luz needs our help!" Amity exclaims, busting the door open. "I know she pushed you guys, and she always gets in over your head. She can be so stupid, which I love. I mean hate! In any case, she needs you right now, which is sweet. I mean, I hate it, and it's dumb!" "You lost me." I said. "Just, here." Amity gives Willow the broken hair clip that Luz fixed with a bandage. "Can we resist the call to action? No. May the flags be raised once more." Gus cheered as the IV drips crashed to the ground.

Back on the field, we saw Luz barely surviving Boscha's attacks. Willow casted a spell circle and protected Luz by blocking the ball with a tree. "Boscha. Your issue is with me, not Luz." Willow said. "Leave her be." "Willow!" Luz exclaimed. "Willow, I'm sorry I got you into this mess. You're right. I got my head too stuck in that movie biz." "It's okay. I know you were just trying to help in your human way." Willow replied. "But now, let's finish this my way. The game is back on." "You need four players on your team." Boscha explains. "Where's your other two?" "You're looking at him." I replied. "Right here." Amity added. "You just destroyed your social life." Boscha said. "Nah, I think I made it better." Amity replied. "Game on!" Boscha grunted.

The game was about to begin once we got into uniform. "There's something on your shoe." Willow said. "Like I'd fall for that." Boscha scoffed. As the ball goes up in the air, she trips on one of Willow's vines. Willow takes the ball underground and makes the first goal. Every time we would score, Boscha's team would too. I cast an ice glyph, which put out the fire. As soon as I grabbed the ball, a new glyph appeared. I placed a piece of paper over the glyph pattern, casting a fire spell. "Hell yeah, fire magic!" I exclaimed, passing the ball in Amity's direction. "Amity!" She used her abomination magic to score the goal, tying the game. "There's time for one more play." Amity said. "And this play could determine whether us underdogs win or lose." Willow added. "Here's what we have to offer." Luz said, showing the four glyphs we've learned. "I think we should try this one." Willow suggested, pointing to the plant glyph. "The Thorn Vault? Are you sure?" I asked. "I'm ready this time." Willow replied.

As the final play started, Boscha tackles Amity. "Amity!" Luz exclaimed, passing me the ball to check on her. I placed the plant glyph on the ground. "You're up, Willow." I said as she stepped on the glyph, scoring the goal, right before the clock struck zero. "You did it, Willow!" I cheered as me and Luz hugged her. "We did it! We won!" All of a sudden, the score changed to 999 points for Boscha's team. "What the fuck?!" Boscha held up a bug in her hand. "Oh, thorns." Willow said. "What happened?" Luz asked. "She caught the Rusty Smidge." Willow explains. "The what?" Luz wondered. "Yeah, while you were celebrating your victory, I caught this guy." Boscha explains. "It means we automatically win. All magic sports are like this." "That just invalidates all our efforts!" I screamed. "If catching that thing is so important, why do anything else? There's no reason to watch any of the other players. That's such a shitty rule!" "Well, we beat them and proved our social dominance." Boscha said. "All is right in the hierarchy. Hey!" Her followers came over to us. "Good game, Willow." Skara said. "I had so much fun playing with you guys." Amelia added. "Oh, really?" Willow asked. "Willow, you're really good. Wanna be on our team?" Cat offered. "Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm done with Grudgby for a while." Willow replied. "Hey, where's..." All of a sudden, we heard Amity wincing in pain. "Amity!" We shouted, running towards her. "I think I hurt my leg, but I'll be okay." Amity explains. "Are you sure?" Luz asked. "I could help carry you if it really hurts." "I'm fine! Who's Amity?" Amity chuckled. "And scoop." Luz said, picking up Amity from the ground. "Oh, wow!" Amity exclaimed. "Sports." "Can we have another montage?" Gus asked. "Yeah." I replied. "Montage activate!"
