Hooty's Moving Hassle
Today, Luz and I watched Eda play cards against Owlbert, her palisman. "Watch closely, kiddos, Hexes hold 'em is the most tricky game on the Boiling Isles." Eda explains. "Any proper witch knows how to play." "Oh, boy, cards!" Luz exclaimed. "The paper rectangles that old people think are fun." I added. "Now, when it looks like the deck is stacked against you, that's when you break out the wild card." Eda continued, pulling out a wild card, winning the game. "Whoo, I win. In your adorable owl face! I love the feeling of victory. It feels, fluffy?" "Um, Eda, it's happening again." I warned, noticing the feathers and fur forming on her arms. "What's happening again?" Eda asked. "Your curse is returning!" King exclaimed. Eda gasped.
We all ran to get some elixir for Eda. "Oh boy, this is terrible." Eda said. "I'm out of elixir." "The last time this happened, you turned into this thing." Luz explains, showing her the picture of the Owl Beast. "I know I should be repulsed, but that look is fierce." Eda smiled. "Eda!" I snapped. "You're right, we need to head to the market." Eda explains. "Market!" Luz cheered. "I'm gonna steal everything that's not nailed down!" King exclaimed. "Before we go, would anyone like to play one more hand of Hexes hold 'em?" Eda asked. "Hey! Where are my cards?" I hid the cards behind my back, handing them over to Owlbert. "Take these and fly ahead, she'll have to follow us." I said as Owlbert flies off with the cards. "Owlbert, you sore loser, give me back my cards!" Eda shouted, chasing him down.
Owlbert led us into town on the way to the market. "Is there anything better than people-watching in the demon realm?" Luz asked as a group of creatures were pushing away a bigger creature. "Whoa, that is one ominous parade." "That's no parade, those are Demon Hunters." Eda explains. "Dangerous nomads who capture and sell the most powerful beasts, which I'm about to become if YOU DON'T OPEN UP, MORTON!" "Sorry, Eda, I was up all night poison tasting, and for some reason, I don't feel great." Morton apologized. "I'm all out of my juice, pal." Eda explains. "Oh, gee, lemme see what I can do." Morton said. In a distance, Luz and I saw Willow, Gus, and Alexa, looking a bit gloomy. "Hey guys." I greeted. "Wait, what's wrong?" "Who hurt my babies?" Luz added. "Them." Willow replied, pointing out Amity and her group of friends. "Amity's having a moonlight conjuring party and decided to invite everyone but Willow and Gus, and when I talked to her, she uninvited me." Alexa explains. "And she keeps posting about it on her Penstagram account." Gus added. "It's conjuring night, no dorks allowed." I read Amity's post. "What an asshole! No offense, Alexa." "None taken, Peter." Alexa replied. "What's a moonlight conjuring?" Luz asked. "You spend the night at someone's house, telling stories, playing games." Willow explains. "Like a slumber party, we have one of those!" Luz exclaimed. "Then you bring something to life with moon magic." Alexa added. "Like a weird slumber party." Luz corrected. "Gus and I have never been to one." Willow continued. "Alexa agreed to join us, but you need at least four people and..." "You have five people if you include me and Luz, we'd never let you guys down." I interrupted. "Besides, we're way better than them." "Sorry you couldn't get an invite to the conjuring, Willow." The pink bitch in yellow teased. "Only real witches allowed." "Leave her alone!" I snapped and Willow started to blush. "Guys, he's right, it's not her fault she was born without talent." Amity added as she walked away with her friends. "Ugh, twin sisters." Alexa groaned. "Sometimes I wish we weren't related." Willow's anger began to rise as some vines grew from the ground. Luckily, they were grown to about the same height as Luz. "Don't waste your time getting thorny over them, 'cause we're gonna have our own moonlight conjuring." Luz said with comfort. "Are you serious?" Gus asked. "This is on my bucket list, after owning a real human bucket." "That's a really weird thing to want, but I appreciate your enthusiasm." I replied. "We'll go tell Eda." "I've got bad news and good news." Morton explains to Eda. "Bad news is I'm all out till next week. Good news is feathers are a good look for you." "Morton!" Eda exclaimed. "I'm sorry, E, why'd you wait to re-up till now?" Morton asked. "I've been very busy." Eda replied. "Yeah, busy playing Hexes hold 'em, she's obsessed with it." King added. "I am not obsessed!" Eda snapped. "You're playing it right now." King said. "Am I winning?" Eda asked, playing with her cards. "You know, I wouldn't suggest this to just anybody, but if you need your elixir, you could try your luck later this evening." Morton suggested. "In the Night Market?" Eda asked. "There's a guy with a stand, goes by the name Grimm Hammer, if anyone has what you need, it's him." Morton said. "Eda." Luz explains. "Gus, Willow, Alexa, and us are gonna do a moonlight conjuring and stick it to Amity, so can we..." "Not tonight." Eda declined. "I'm going out. I need both of you to watch the house. I have many precious objects in there." "Like me." King added as Eda picked him up. "You're coming with me." Eda explains. "I need an extra pair of eyes looking out for pickpockets, and an extra pair of hands unless I wanna pickpocket." "Pickpocket!" They both cheered. "Then, maybe they can come to the house and..." "No. Besides, conjurings are dumb." Eda interrupted her, walking away from us. "Sitting in a circle holding hands, it's like magic for babies." Our friends came up to us. "Guys, what did Eda say?" Willow asked. "So guys." Luz explains. "Ooh, look!" Gus exclaimed, pointing at the moon. "The moon is rising into place." "And the celestial powers only align once a year." Alexa added. "Oh, I can't believe I finally have enough friends for a moonlight conjuring, thank you Luz and Peter!" Willow cheered. "Did Eda say it was okay?" "Yes, she said yes." I lied. "We can do it at the Owl House." "As long as we don't make a mess or touch anything and never bring up that we did it." Luz added nervously. They all cheered.
Later that night, Eda was about to head out with King. "Luz and Peter, you're in charge while I'm out." Eda ordered. "Make sure Hooty doesn't get into any trouble." "Hoot Hoot! I don't need a babysitter, I'm a big boy house." Hooty argued. "You can count on us, Luz and I would never betray your hard-earned trust." I chuckled nervously. "You two are acting suspicious, Luz is doing that thing where she hides in her hoodie." Eda said. "Meow, I'm not." Luz replied. "Oh, uh, where's King?" "He's right here." Eda explains, unwrapping her cloak to show King, sleeping in a baby carrier. "His little body just conks out when he's weightless. Look at this." "Aww, he's so dangly." I cooed. "Anyway, really going now." Eda said. "And, kiddos, if you mess up the house, I will never trust you again. No pressure, byeeee!" Eda flies away on her staff, leaving us alone. "Should we really be doing this?" Luz asked. "Our friends are counting on us, Luz, we have to." I replied. "Okay, she's gone." Gus got rid of his illusions. "Release." Gus said. "I'm a sneaky sneakster." Willow smiled. "I've got leaves in my pants." Alexa added. "But, I'm not complaining." "Company, hooray! Finally, someone to listen to my stories!" Hooty cheered. "Okay, one time, a sparrow flew into my mouth, and then I..." I closed the door after everyone was inside. "Welcome to the living room." Luz said. "We call it that because it's technically living." I added. "Even the walls are breathing." "I don't know if I should be amazed, or disgusted." Alexa commented. "Look at all these human treasures!" Gus gasped, looking through some of the stuff Eda collected from the human realm, and then picked up a skull. "And actual humans." "We've got snacks, we've got weird music." Luz explains. "We've got a bucket!" Gus cheered. "Yes, my man." Luz said. "And best of all, we have actual friends to do the conjuring with." Willow smiled. "This is so exciting!" Alexa squealed. "So, how does this conjuring stuff work?" I asked. "Well, first, we find an object to animate." Willow explains, looking at a flower. "Since it's our first time, we should pick something meaningful. Something beautiful." "Like this strangely buff little man." Gus suggested, showing us an action figure. "Yes!" Alexa and I cheered. "He's perfect." Luz added. "That's not exactly what I meant by beautiful." Willow said. Gus began to give her the puppy dog eyes. "Okay, buff boy it is." "Yes!" Luz exclaimed. "Awesome." I added. "Tonight, he shall be risen!" Gus shouted.
We got prepared for the conjuring once the moon was in the perfect position. We put the action figure in the middle as we all sat in a circle. "According to the conjuring books I've read, we say the incantation and make a connection with the doll." Willow explains. "Figurine." Gus whispered. We grabbed each other's hands and began to chant the incantation. "Moonlight, we call, we sing. Moonlight, we take this chance. Moonlight, tie this string." We chanted. All of a sudden, the candles went out, but the action figure wasn't moving. "That's your cue, little man." Gus said. That's when the house began shaking rapidly. "Guys, did the entire house just hiccup?" Luz asked. "This never happened at one of Amity's conjurings." Alexa explains. "Little buff guy, what did you do?" Gus asked, pressing a button on the figure. "A real man never takes accountability." The figure said. "No, I think we might've animated the house by accident." Willow said. "The house?!" I asked as Luz and I ran to the door, only to see the house standing on giant chicken legs. Something else was wrong with the house, Hooty looked like he was possessed. "Hooty, Hooty! Hooty, you have to stop!" "By the power of moonlight, I have risen, hoot, hoot." Hooty replied. "He's in some kind of trance." Gus explains. As the house was walking through the woods, Gus almost fell to his death. "Our magic must've spread through the house instead of the doll." Willow explains. "Figurine!" Gus corrected. We grabbed each other's hands as we were about to fall off a cliff. "Hooty, stop!" Luz shouted as the house came to a stop, allowing us to rescue Gus. "How'd we do that?" Alexa asked. "Alexa, Willow, Gus, Luz, hold hands again." I replied as they listened. The house began walking backwards. "We're controlling it with the power of friendship." Willow said. "And the moon. Probably the moon." "This is amazing!" Alexa exclaimed. "What do we do now?" Gus asked. "On the one hand, we should probably stay put." Luz replied. "On the other hand, we got a giant, walking house and should totally take it on a joyride." Gus added. "Okay, but we've gotta be back before the moon sets, or Eda's gonna kill us both." I sighed. We took the house on a joyride and we see the pink haired girl on her way to Amity and Alexa's place. "Hey, is that?" Willow asked. "It's Boscha, the girl who made fun of us." Gus replied. We snuck up on her until she turned around. "She noticed us." Alexa said. "What do we do?" Luz and I looked at each other in mischief. "Hey! Hey, you! You should stop being so mean to people." Luz said over a speaker. "You're kind of a bitch!" I added in a spooky tone. "Ew, a talking house is giving me a lecture?" Boscha questions. "Whatever. I'll just TP you like I did with the rest of the neighborhood." "But don't you see?" Luz asked. "I am no mere house." We made the house stand up as Boscha ran away screaming, making all of us laugh. "I've never pranked anyone before." Gus said. "And now I have a taste for it." "You guys wanna follow Boscha to my house to show off our conjuring?" Alexa asked. "That'll show Amity who's got no talent." Willow replied. "Actually, I'm starting to think we should head back." I explained, feeling guilty about hurting Willow's feelings. "Amity's updating her Penstagram." Gus reminds us. "Shoutout to my fellow witches. #humanscanbiteit?" Luz read and gasped. "Let's do it!"
We got the house to go to the Blight Manor. "Look! Amity and Alexa's house!" Willow exclaimed. "Time to show my sister what a real conjuring looks like." Alexa added. All of a sudden, a bunch of rope began to hold down the house. "Is that a giant crossbow?" Luz asked. Then it occurred to me, those guys were the Demon Hunters that Eda was talking about. "Knock, knock." He said.
The Demon Hunters tied us all up inside the house. I tried to wake up Hooty by kicking the door. "Hooty, you have to wake up!" I yelled. "If you want this to end as you say, five must hold hands, it's the only way." Hooty explains. "Oye, no me hablas así." Luz grunted. "Willow, can you help us out with Hooty?" "I'm sorry, Luz and Peter." Willow apologized. "You shouldn't ask me to help with anything." "Willow." Alexa started as the house began shaking. "Did the house stop moving?" I asked. "My insides didn't." Gus replied. One of the Demon Hunters grabbed us and left us outside. "Take the house and rip up the house demon, we can sell it to restaurants as exotic meat." He commands. "No, Hooty would taste terrible." Luz warned. "Hey, I'm a refined taste, hoot, hoot." Hooty retorted. "What do we do with the worms?" Another Demon Hunter asked. "Throw them over the cliff." His boss ordered. He grabbed us and threw us to the cliff. Luckily, we were hanging by a branch. "If we're not killed now, we will be when Eda finds out about the house." I said. "Guys, I'm so sorry." Willow apologized again. "You wanted to turn back, but I just had to show off to Amity, the truth is, she and I used to be friends." "What?!" Luz and I asked. "Yup, all of us played together as kids. But when Amity got her magical powers and Willow didn't, Amity changed." Alexa continued. "Guys, is now the best time?" Gus asked. "I just wanted to prove to her that I was a powerful witch too." "That's ridiculous, you helped bring a house to life!" I exclaimed. "Amity doesn't know what she's talking about." "Next to Eda, you're the most powerful witch I know, no offense, Gus and Alexa." Luz added. "You're good, Luz." Alexa said. "Not at all, I know what I'm about." Gus added as the branch was on it's last leg. "This tree can't hold us much longer." Willow was able to free her hand to grab the branch. "Now, if I can just reach that root. Gotcha!" She grew the root and attacked the Demon Hunters. "We may be children, but we're also witches, powerful ones." We ran inside the house as soon as we were free and made an escape. "Oh, no, I don't mean to step on our victory, but we gotta get home before Eda does." Luz warned as the moon was setting. On our way back, we accidentally destroyed this guy's shop at the night market. I hope Eda didn't see anything. "Sorry, mister!" Luz shouted.
We got back home just as the sun rose. "Did we do it?" Alexa asked. "Is the room spinning or is it just me?" Hooty joked. "Just a little house humor." "Sorry about all that, Hooty." I apologized. "It's okay, I'm just glad I was included." Eda suddenly slammed the door in anger. "Oh, boy." Luz panicked. "You two are so busted." Eda said. "Oh, shit." I cursed. "You two had a moonlight conjuring." Eda reminds us. "We did!" Luz and I cried. "And you animated my house. My house!" Eda snapped. "Yes." Luz replied. "No, don't punish Luz and Peter." Willow begged. "We're the ones who pushed them to do the conjuring." Alexa explains. "If you're gonna eat me, just do it now!" Gus cried. "Do it now!" "Hey, you didn't have to do that." I said. "Yes, Peter, I did." Willow replied, faintly blushing. "Well, you're all guilty, so you'll all be punished, by cleaning my house top to bottom." Eda explains, summoning some cleaning supplies with a spell circle. "And another thing... That was totally amazing, and I'm so joining you for next year's conjuring! Now get to work." "I can't believe they animated a whole house." King comments. "Yeah, you're right." Eda said. "That takes some powerful magic." "You know, I still kinda wish we could've showed up my sister." Luz said, sweeping the floor. "Yeah, too bad no one'll know of our daring adventures." Willow replied. "I wouldn't say no one." Alexa commented. "Because I am totally gonna rub this in Amity's face!"
