Edge Of The World

In the middle of the night, all I could picture in my head was Belos. I mean, Philip. God, he really messed with our heads. As someone who doesn't scare so easily, I was scarred for life. But that wasn't the only person I was worried about. I couldn't stop thinking about Hunter. Aside from Flapjack, he's alone and scared. Hunter was basically under control of Belos. Not gonna lie, I felt pretty guilty about insulting him. I went over to Luz's side of the room and shook her awake. "Peter?" Luz asked. "I think it's time we tell the others." I explained. "About Belos."

In the morning, Luz and I sat in front of the couch. It was too hard to explain everything, so I showed my journal entry, while Luz showed off some drawings. "This is just a lot to take in." Eda said. "We don't have time to take anything in!" I snapped. "We have to stop Belos!" "We were part of his plan!" Luz cried. "We fell for everything!" "King, Hooty, you know what to do." Eda said as King and Hooty comforted us. "Well, one thing's for sure. People can tell when they've been inside their head. It's only a matter of time before Belos sends his scouts over here. You two need to hide." "We're not hiding." Luz explains. "We're gonna stop Belos from completing the Draining Spell. We just need to figure out how. "Edalyn!" I heard Lilith say. "Lulu!" Hooty cried, almost choking Luz and I. "Hooty, you bastard, you're choking us!" I gasped. "I came as fast as I could." Lilith said. "Owlbert filled me in on the Draining Spell. Oh, Titan. I can't believe this is what the Day of Unity was about this whole time. Ugh, I was such a fool, a dolt, a chump, a..." "Hey, no pity parties in this house." Eda explains. "Besides, Luz and Peter are upset enough as it is." "You're right. I'll do anything to help." Lilith replied. "Lulu, I am so happy to see you, I could, I could..." Hooty said, vomiting some random objects. "Hooty, you gotta stop eating garbage from the ground." Eda sighed. "He's also been eating our mail. Look!" King gasped, showing off a letter. ""Dear King Clawthorne, if you wish to know who you truly are, come to this location and meet our warrior clan." I think they might be my family! And maybe they're an answer to all our problems." "That's incredible, but how is it supposed to help us stop Belos?" Luz asked. "They're a clan of warriors!" King replied. "How else do you defeat a tyrant with their own army? By making an army of your own!" "Well, it's not like we have many allies." Lilith said. "Not to mention it's a chance for King to find out where he came from." I added. "I say let's go for it." "Yeah!" Luz shouted. "Well, I say you two need a safe place to hide while the adults take care of things." Eda ordered. "Mom!" I groaned. "I'm actually in favor of this plan." Lilith said. "You are?" We all asked. "It wouldn't hurt to check." Lilith explains. "Plus, judging by King's map, you three would be taken far, far away from the Boiling Isles and Emperor Belos." "What if something goes wrong?" Eda asked. "Hooty could accompany them." Lilith replied. "Their safety would be your responsibility, my dear, brave, Hootsifer." "I would protect these silly children with my life." Hooty said. "Yeah, well how would they even get there?" Eda asked. "We know a ship that might take us." I replied. "Yeah! The ole Selkidomus crew. Think about it." King added. "Belos won't be able to withstand a whole army of mes." "Such allies would be quite valuable." Lilith said. "I wonder if I still have my sailor's hat." Luz added. "Does anyone else feel that marching around the edge of the forest?" Hooty asked. "Fine. You can go." Eda said. "We'll find out all we can on our end to create a plan for when you get back." "Thank you, Eda!" Luz exclaimed. "We won't let you down." I added. "Let's pack for the trip!" King said. "Wait for me!" Hooty shouted as we headed upstairs.

After we finished packing, we set sail with the Selkidomus crew. Actually, it was just Salty. "Doing a lot of work there, Salty. Where's the crew?" King asked. "Well, I'm no longer working for the Golden Guard." Salty explains. "So, me mates abandoned ship for greener, snailier pastures. They were like family to me, too." "Yeah, I get the feeling." I sighed. "Land Ho!" Luz shouted, pointing at something from the picture. "Is that a finger?" Hooty asked. "It's a long way from our Titan." "That's 'cause it's not from our Titan." Salty explains. "This be part of a different beastie."

We paddled to shore to start our investigation. Climbing up this finger was pretty tiring. "Is anyone here?" Luz asked. "Maybe we're a bunch of early birds." Hooty said. "Or maybe they got sick of waiting." King sighed. "That letter was over a month old." "Hold on! There's something here." I said, looking at a carving that had a chipped piece. I took the missing part and put it in. It created a portal to another world, a hidden world.

After going through that portal, we landed safely. "Luz, are you okay?" Hooty asked. "Where's your other arm?" "I only ever had two, Hooty." Luz replied. "Did you think I had more?" "Guys, look!" King gasped, pointing at another Titan corpse. "That doesn't look like the Boiling Isles to me." I said. "That's because it isn't." Someone explained. "Welcome to the other side of the world. You dare trespass against this sacred... By the Huntsman, tis King! My name is Tarak. Hail and well-met." "Uh, yeah. Tis King!" King greeted. "Psst, King. Introduce us." Luz whispered. "Right. This is Luz, the human/friend/sister." King introduced. "This is Peter, the human/witch/friend/half brother. And this is Hooty, the, uh, door?" "Your warrior-ship." Luz and I bowed. "Did you send me that letter?" King asked. "Are you, are you my..." "Father?" Tarak asked. "Alas, no. Nor is he here. But I did send the letter, and by the sight of you, I know he was one of us. He passed down that handsome skull of yours, didn't he? Now, we celebrate! Everyone will be so happy to meet you." "Who's everyone?" Luz asked. "Welcome to Titan Trapper Island." Tarak replied. "I've never seen so many demons that look like me." King gasped. "Look at them go!" "We are Titan Trappers, under oath to protect the world from giant monsters of death and destruction." Tarak explains. "But, uh, not many of us have seen a live one, of course."

Tarak took us to a building on the island. "Aren't Titans extinct?" I asked. "Not all of them." Tarak replied. "The Grand Huntsman says one remains, so we sharpen our spears until the vile creature rears its head, and a new hunt can begin! And now, dear King, you can join us and become a Titan Trapper yourself." "Weh?!" King gasped. "Oh my God!" I exclaimed. "King, this is amazing!" "Well, we don't know any Titans but the world could definitely use your help." Luz explains. "That's right!" King recalled. "It's a lot to explain right now, but could you, I mean, we, help the people of the Boiling Isles?" "Any enemy of yours is an enemy of ours!" One of them shouted. "But we can make no vows. For that, you must beseech our elder, the wisest hunter of them all, Bill!" Tarak said. "Is that short for something?" I asked. "Nope, just Bill." Tarak explains. "He's so cool. He actually met our god, the Grand Huntsman! He's my best friend. It's no big deal." "Luz! Peter!" King shouted, showing off a weapon. "Look what they gave me!" "That looks awfully pointy, buddy." Luz said. "Don't worry, it's mostly paper mâché. And bone." King explains. "They're gonna show me their Titan Trapper ways, guys! I guess they're my ways, too." "How about Peter, Hooty, and I go see the elder, and in the meantime, you learn all you can about being a Titan Trapper?" Luz suggested. "This is a dream come true!" King exclaimed, hugging us both. "Just be careful!" I warned. "I will!" King replied. "Are we really leaving him alone?" Hooty asked. "He's a tough little shit." I replied. "Besides, he should have time to get to know his family." "Besides, we have a job to do." Luz added as we headed towards Bill's place.

"I shall take my leave." Tarak said as we arrived at Bill's. "Tell Bill I said hi." Luz opened the door. "Hello?" She asked. "Wow! Look at all this stuff!" I gasped, picking up a sword. "This'll help us fuck up Belos for sure." All of a sudden, the sword disintegrated into dust. "Tarak, is that you?" Someone asked, who I could only assume was Bill. "I told you to stop rummaging through my stuff!" "Tarak's not here. It's just us." Luz explains. "Greetings. My name is..." "What's that? Speak up!" Bill shouted. "You barge in like an angry Titan only to whisper like the wind?" "Uh, greetings. We lowly travelers beg an audience with the great Bill." I said. "Mayhaps we might perchance to venture to..." "Oh, for the love of, Tarak sent you here, didn't he?" Bill asked. "He said you were the wisest of all the Trappers. And also his friend." Luz replied. "He also says hi." I added. "Of course he does." Bill scoffed. "What do you want?" "We're here to ask if you would lend us your mighty warriors." I explained. "You see, Emperor Belos has threatened to..." "That upstart on the carcass kingdom? He's no big deal." Bill said. "Yeah, no big deal." I mumbled. "I've got battle scars older than his reign as Emperor! Wanna see?" Bill asked. "We're good. But please understand, Mr Bill, a lot of people are in danger and they don't realize it." Luz begged. "Yeah. That dude is straight up evil." Hooty said. "He's pretty fucked up." I added. "Don't worry. We'll help." Bill agreed. "But if you think Belos is evil, you've never seen a live Titan. The children out there haven't either. Don't know a thing about their ravenous appetites, or their terrible cries! Even their babies act like little monarchs. The last living Titan, I saw it once before it disappeared. It's hateful roar blew out my eardrums. How did it go? "Weh"!" Luz and I quickly realized. King is a Titan! "So, Titans are always hungry, act like monarchs, and say "Weh"?" Luz asked. "The Huntsman wants us to find the last one." Bill explains. "Only a Titan's power can free him from his prison. But we've had no luck. Nice poster, right? I took a printmaking class once." "Guys, follow me!" Hooty whispered as Bill kept talking.

Hooty brought us to a room with a bunch of skulls. "Oh, hey! Thought I'd get Lulu some souvenirs." Hooty said, shaking a snow globe with a symbol of the Collector. "Their god is that collector kid?" I asked. "Ah, you've found the shrine to the Huntsman." Bill said. "It's been my little DIY project for years. You like our disguises? You gotta look like a Titan to trap one. But if I ever find that missing Titan, I'd hunt it down, tear it limb from limb, and mount its head in pride as we released the Huntsman! Then, we can finally go from Titan Trappers, to Titan Slayers! Say, who's your buddy's tailor? His costume looks so real!" "Uh, this has all been super cool, but we gotta go check on some things." Luz lied. "But what about the thing you were talking about, your quest with Belos." Bill said. "We're sure it'll work itself out." I replied, closing the door. Luz and I ran to find King. "We need to get King out of here, Now!" Luz exclaimed. "Then run faster!" Hooty shouted. "We're trying, dumbass!" I yelled.

We found King with Bill and Tarak, about to sacrifice him for the Collector. While invisible, I levitated Bill away from King, while Luz grabs him. We hid quickly to catch our breath. "King, we're so glad you're okay!" Luz gasped. "What are you talking about?" King asked. "We were just about to play catch." "Well, it actually looked like you were about to be sacrificed to the Collector." I corrected. "Hey! Luz and Petey just saved your life!" Hooty snapped. "These guys wouldn't hurt me. They get me!" King exclaimed. "They know what it's like to be left behind." "King, if this is about your dad..." Luz began. "No! I mean, yeah, but it's you too, guys!" King explains. "You'll eventually go back to the Human Realm. I know how it works. I read your Azura books. Luz, you even promised your mom. Peter, you need to stay with your uncle. I just thought I had to prepare for a world without you in it." "But they won't help." I said. "King, you're not one of them." "Then what am I?" King asked. "You're..." Luz paused. "You're a Titan, King."  "Hark!" Tarak shouted. "Tis the wretched spawn of..." "Shut up and get that Titan!" Bill interrupted. We started running as they shot magic beams at us. Although Hooty was blocking the shots, they managed to levitate King. Luz tossed a glyph at Tarak, who dropped King. He lands on Tarak, removing his mask. "Stop! I'm one of you guys!" King shouted, noticing the mask. "You were never one of us." Tarak said. "My brothers and sisters, a new hunt begins today!" "With this gift, the Grand Huntsman will return, and I shall ride cloaked in glory above all others!" Bill exclaimed. "You mean, we, right?" Tarak asked. "You promised the Huntsman would grant all of us glory." "Are Titans even evil?" Hooty asked. "How much have you been making up?" Luz wondered. "Don't let them fool you!" Bill snapped. "I'm totally not lying. Hand me my spear. Whatever, just give me that thing!" I punched Bill with an abomination fist before we escaped. "No one fucks with my little brother." I said, leaving them with one last gesture from the abomination.

We ran to the exit and made an escape. Hooty wrapped himself around a peak before we could fall on the ground. "We can't let them get through. We have to destroy this thing." Luz explains. "Then step back." King said, using his power to break the finger and close the entrance. Hooty protected us, luckily. After seeing the wreckage, King grabs onto us in tears. "I wanna go home." He whined.

We got back on Salty's ship to take us back to the Isles. That morning, we made breakfast. "King, we made breakfast." I said. Little did we know that we couldn't return home.
