Clouds on the Horizon

Amity's POV

After Luz let me in on the Draining Spell, I couldn't just stay on the sidelines. Sure, I told my siblings, but we needed someone else to listen. I needed to tell Mom. Sure, things between us have been rocky, but someone needs to know the truth. "She won't believe you." Emira said. "Even if she did, she won't care." Edric added. "You know Mom loves money more than me specifically." Alexa commented. "Well, someone has to tell Mom about the Draining Spell." I explained. "Or else, she and Dad are helping Belos hurt people." "Why not just tell Dad?" Alexa suggested. I hide my siblings behind a rock with me just as Mom turns around. "I've got that little gremlin on the hook." I heard Mom say. "She'll be a perfect test subject for our new product." "Don't you think it's odd that they need this much security for the Day of Unity?" Dad wondered. "Perhaps we should reconsider this deal." "Blights always uphold their part of the deal, dear." Mom replied. "Or should I reconsider ours? It might be time for the kids to play a more active role in Blight Industries. I could start the paperwork right now." "Hey guys, Dad might listen." I whispered. "Isn't that what I just said?" Alexa asked. "Where are Ed and Em?" I wondered. "Hiding behind trash, girls? To think my children are so painfully predictable in their deceit." Mom said as an Abomaton had grabbed the twins. "You're grounded."

Peter's POV

Today was the day before the Day of Unity. If I'm being honest, there was only one person on my mind. Willow. I keep thinking about how I taught her to write poetry whenever she missed me. I hope she hasn't forgotten about me. I sat next to Luz, trying to send out a message to Amity on her Tamagotchi. "Still thinking about Amity?" I asked. Luz nodded. "You know, I think about Willow every day. But, I know she's a strong witch, and so is Amity." "What kind of language is that?" Eda asked. "The language of love, Eda." Luz replied. "But it's unfinished. It just says, "Grounded. Come quick," and then nothing." "Special delivery." King announced, carrying a crate of scout uniforms. "Ta-da!" "Ooh!" Luz gasped. "Disguises! Yes!" Lilith cheered. "A milestone of malfeasance in my new life of crime." "This is just a trick to get me to wear clothes." Hooty said. "Well, it won't work!" "Anything else I can do?" King asked. "Grab some tea? Defeat some baddies? Create sentient life? I am a..." "Totally frightened? Yeah, me too, pal." Eda interrupted. "I know you wanna help, but we gotta keep this stuff a secret between us six for now. You may be a Titan, but you're still a little guy." "Hey. No matter what, you're still my badass little brother." I added. "Alright, let's get this briefing over with." Darius said.

Darius brought us over to the table to discuss our plan to stop Belos. "Okay, we have 24 hours until the Day of Unity begins and Belos activates the Draining Spell." Raine explains. "And everyone on the Boiling Isles is taken out in one fell swoop." Darius added, knocking over some pawns. "Well, not everyone." Raine said. "The spell targets those with Coven Sigils, using the nine types of magic as ingredients for the spell itself. It's channeled through each of the Coven Heads during the duration of the eclipse." "So, what's the plan?" Lilith asked. "Do we hide one of you?" "We can't count on that after my stunt with the BATS." Raine replied. "Belos made sure we all have replacements." Darius explains. "We can't stop the Draining Spell, but we can corrupt it. That's where the Owl Lady comes in." "Huh?" Eda and I wondered. "The curse, Eda." Darius said. "That's right!" Eda gasped. "My curse warps magic. Huh? Did quite a number on you two, if I remember correctly." "You remember incorrectly." Darius lied. "I was completely unfazed. Eda will have to sneak into the tower, and here's how. I'll control a pair of abominations to release Eberwolf's flesh-eating beetles into the crowd. It will create a distraction so big, we can get Eda up with the Coven Heads. The spell will halt when it comes in contact with the curse, and the day will be saved. No problem. What? Only a few people would get eaten. Even then, just the small ones." "If we must do this, the safest bet is to have Eda tap into the spell by taking someone's place as Coven Head." Raine explains. "My place. Sigil and all." We gasped. "As Head Bard, you'd also be flanked by me and Eber, where we can keep an eye on the others." "Why are we acting like Edalyn's the only one with a curse here?" Lilith asked. "Please, let me do this as a..." "No." Eda said. "You haven't had your curse that long. You don't know how it would react. But I do. And how can I say no to sticking it to Belos one final time? Not only that, but I have the Raine Whispers looking out for me." "Heck yes, Owl Lady!" One of the bards shouted.

Luz, King, and I chilled out on the balcony as airships were traveling to the head. "Still nothing from Amity?" I asked. "Nope." Luz sighed. "There you are. Look what I've got." Eda announced, showing off our Palismen. "The coat's finally dry. I gotta ask. Why'd you choose a platypus?" "It kinda resembles the parts I love about the Human Realm, one place in particular." I replied. "Plus, I think the little guy can poison any of my enemies." "And I thought you'd carve something cute, like a tarantula. Why an egg?" Eda asked. "I got to decide what my future looked like when I chose to be a witch, and I want them to have that option too." Luz explains. "Until then, I'm willing to wait." "Try to play them music sometime." Eda suggested. "They can hear you." "I love you already!" Luz squealed, kissing the egg. "You are one lucky little guy." I said to my Palisman. "Can you believe I gotta pretend to be a Coven Head?" Eda asked. "Eda, are you sure you want to do this?" I asked. "Well, of course I don't." Eda scoffed. "You know, even before the curse, I couldn't stand covens. Only a select few can learn about different types of magic. It made no sense. But, if it's the only way to stop this, then I'm gonna do it. But as exciting as saving the world sounds, it's not nearly as exciting as going on a rescue mission to save your girlfriends." "What?" I gasped. "I wasn't thinking about..." Luz blushed. "Ooh, but you wanna." Eda chuckled. "It's written on your faces." "Of course we want to, but we also want to be there for you." Luz said. "Hey, us adults can handle ourselves." Eda explains. "Tell Bossy Boots I said "Yo"." "Wrong twin." I laughed. "Stop talking like that!" King shouted. "This isn't goodbye. I command it!" "We'll see each other after the Day of Unity." Eda explains. "If we succeed." I said. "When we succeed." Eda corrected. "We have the advantage, after all. We've got King the Titan, Peter the Owl Boy, and Luz the Human on our side. Legends in the making." "Don't forget Eda the Owl Lady." Luz added. "The greatest mother on the Boiling Isles." I continued. "Already a legend, and the most horrifying one of them all." King chuckled as we pulled into a hug. "I love you, Mom." I whispered. "I love you too, kiddo." Eda replied. "So, you guys protect each other, and we'll be back together before you know it." "Eda, let's get moving." Raine said. Before they could leave, Luz and I each grabbed Raine's arms. "Promise you'll protect her." Luz said sternly. "I don't think I could live with myself if something happened to her." "Promise." Raine smiled. "Well, the next 24 hours are gonna be rough. But everyone knows their part, and I'm confident we'll succeed. Because we are The Covens Against the Throne." "Wait, can we not make this our battle cry?" Darius asked. "AKA the CATS!" Raine shouted. Before Luz, King, and I left, I turned over to Raine. Doing something I wanted to do for a while. "Raine?" I asked as they turned to me. "Thank you, for saving my life." "Your welcome." Raine replied. "Your parents mean a lot to me, Peter."

We flew out with Katya on her staff before she joined the others. "Why are we stopping?" Luz asked. "To meet your security escort." Katya replied. "Darius insisted. See ya!" "What? We don't need a security escort!" Luz shouted. "Did you hear that, Gus?" I heard Willow ask. "Yeah, no, I guess we'll have to go home." Gus replied. "Well, it's been fun. See you around, guys." "No fucking way!" I exclaimed, running to my girlfriend, pecking her lips. "Willow! I missed you so much!" "Of course we want you around. We're so happy! And also confused." Luz added. "We thought you were all hiding after what happened at Hexside." "They were, but then, they heard Darius ordered me to protect you." Hunter explains. "More like he begged us to come because he's terrified of getting recognized." Gus corrected. "Hunter, are you really up for this?" I asked. "You must be dealing with a lot after learning..." "That Belos is evil? Don't worry! I'm A-OK!" Hunter interrupted, doing a special handshake with Gus. "What the hell?" I asked. "This is what happens when you two go missing for a week." Willow explains as Hunter brings me and Luz into a huddle. "Don't you dare mention that thing around them." Hunter whispered. "What thing? That you're a Grimwalker?" Luz asked. "Shh!" Hunter shushed. "Listen, I don't know if I'm a witch or human. All I know is that I'm a copy of someone Belos made disappear." "We don't know what you guys went through, but they seem to like you." Luz explains. "So, I shouldn't worry how they'd react, right?" Hunter asked. "If that's the case, have either of you told them about helping Philip? Yeah, I overheard everything. Don't tell them. Please." Luz and I nodded.

Sneaking over to the Blight Manor, we were prepared just in case Odalia had tricks up her sleeve. Gus used a special brooch to see what was behind the illusion. A Coven Scout was guarding the place. Luz tied up the scout with a plant glyph. As we were about to get inside, an Abomaton blocked the entrance, but we were still able to destroy it. We went over to the side of the mansion, where Amity and Alexa's room was. Luz placed a plant glyph to get to the balcony.

Alexa's POV

Amity was pacing around our room trying to fix her Tamagotchi that Mom broke. "I can't believe Mom broke it!" Amity complains. "I'm gonna fix it and I'm gonna get a message out to Luz. I'm gonna do something!" "We already tried burning down the factory." Edric said. "That's what got us grounded, too." "Mom just hates me." I explained. "If only Mom would just hear us out..." "We can shout as loud as we want, but money always shouts louder." Emira explains. "Dad would listen. I know he would." Amity said. "The world is ending, no one'll listen to us, and I just want to know that Luz is safe." All of a sudden, I noticed Luz on the balcony, but I wanted to see Amity's reaction. "What do you think Luz would say to you right now?" Emira asked. "Probably something dorky, but also sweet. Like how I shouldn't give up and that anything is possible." Amity replied. "Or she'd say that I might be scared now but to not let that stop me, and everything's been so crazy, we've barely been able to spend time together. And I am not letting the world end before we go on a real date." As Amity was talking, my siblings and I opened the door for Luz. "Whoa, you're right! I would say all that." Luz said. "Luz!" Amity gasped. "Sweet potato!" Luz shouted, twirling my sister in the air. "I'm gonna take you out when this is all over, Amity. I promise. No monsters, no mysteries, no deadly duels. It's going to be the most mundane, slice-of-life date ever. And it'll be awesome." "I know." Amity smiled, just as she pulled Luz in for a kiss. "Whoa. Crikey." Luz said. "I can't believe I just did that." Amity gasped. "I can't believe I just said that!" Luz exclaimed. "Oh, Crikey. How did I even think that? Come on, Luz. Be cool next time." "Luz, I don't think my parents know what they're helping Belos accomplish." Amity sighed. "Will you help me tell them about the Draining Spell?" "Of course. That's why we're here." Luz replied. "We?" Amity and I asked, looking out the window to see Peter, King, Willow, Gus, and Hunter. Not gonna lie, I kinda blushed when I saw Hunter.

Peter's POV

As Odalia was talking to Kikimora, who has just been demoted, I cast an illusion spell to make us look like Coven Scouts. Heading to the warehouse, we were looking for Alador's workroom. "That's our dad's workroom." Alexa whispered. "It looks empty." I commented. "And really depressing." "Ahem!" Odalia snapped. "These rooms are off-limits." "Mrs Blight." Hunter said, saluting her. "Kikimora told us of your products. Such inventions will be invaluable assets to the Emperor's Coven." "Yeah, and we are all about invaluable assets." Luz added. "Can't get enough of them." Gus commented. "I'm an asset gal myself." Willow added. "Assets are the best!" I exclaimed. "I apologize for the trouble. We'll return to our duties." Hunter apologized. All of a sudden, we were stopped by Kikimora inside a giant Abomaton. "I thought I recognized that annoying voice." Kikimora said. We tried to run to the exit, but the Coven Scout and a regular Abomaton blocked the door. That's when I accidentally tripped over a pipe, vanishing the illusion. Odalia was pissed.

Odalia trapped us inside of a force field. "Odalia, is my airship ready?" Kikimora asked. "Just about." Odalia replied. "And I found two adorable little scoundrels trying to steal it. But they'll be dealt with." "Edric! Emira!" Alexa shouted. "Don't worry. They'll just be grounded with maximum security." Odalia said. "Don't you get it? You're helping a witch hunter destroy everything." Amity explains. "Really, Mittens, I am tired of all this drama." Odalia sighed. "Sneaking around in little disguises, convincing the twins to act out, not to mention how Boots convinced you to rebel, are you trying to make me look bad?" "I didn't convince her to do anything!" Alexa shouted. "Amity is trying to help people." Luz explains. "Hush, brat!" Odalia scolded. "Don't you talk to my girlfriend like that!" Amity snapped. "Girlfriend? Oh, no, that won't do." Odalia gasped. "We'll find you a new girlfriend. Someone who's not on wanted posters everywhere." Amity's anger level was rising high enough that she broke free from her abomination restraints, changing it to a fist, attempting to break the force field. Not only that, but Alexa broke free as she saw her twin getting walked on by her mother. "Really? You're embarrassing yourselves." Odalia scoffed. "No one messes with my sister." Alexa grunted. "I always knew you were rotten to the core." Kikimora said to Hunter. "Belos will probably snap you in two after I hand you over. Maybe he'll make me the new Golden Guard." "Leave him the fuck alone!" I shouted. "I'm surprised you and the human are here, Owl Boy. Aren't all your friends at the Day of Unity." Kikimora asked. "That's right. The Emperor has eyes everywhere, and they're all pointed at the Owl Lady." At this moment, there was only one thing left for us to do.

Hunter's POV

I noticed Luz and Peter whispering something to Gus. I couldn't understand what they were saying. The younger Blight twins punched through the force field, setting us free. "How did we do that?" Amity asked. "Was it the power of believing in ourselves?" Alexa wondered. "No, it was the power of science. But you almost had it, girls." Alador replied, coming out of the shadows with King. "Odalia, the Emperor is planning to wipe out everyone with a Draining Spell, and our Abomatons are helping him do it." Expecting to see Odalia in shock, she didn't seem to care. "You already knew?" Alador asked. "What he does with our products is none of our business. What is my business is keeping our family ahead of the rest." Odalia replied. "You're welcome, everyone." Alador growled at his wife. "Ugh, there you go making that face. This is why I don't tell you things." Odalia grunted. "With the Emperor's favor, we'll live like royalty in the new world. Crowns and everything." "This is too much. Even for you." Alador said, fighting his wife's Oracle magic, but she gained control of Alador's remote. Kikimora jumped with the Abomaton as I rescued Willow from being crushed. Kikimora captured, me? I looked at my body, only to see that I was disguised as Luz. Willow tried attacking the Abomaton, but Kikimora put Luz, disguised as me, in front of her. Willow aimed at another target. Gus traps Kiki inside an illusion to distract her. She uses a blaster, destroying parts of the factory. "I don't need all you cretins, but this one is mine." Kikimora cackles as Alexa tries using her magic to stop her, but is grabbed by Kiki and are rocketed to the sky. "Ha! The jet pack actually works!" Alador cheered. "Oh. The jet pack actually works." "Well, since we finished with that little mess, let's get back to business. Shall we?" Odalia asked. "You! You let her take my sister!" Amity shouted. "I am never speaking to you again!" "You'll thank me when you're a literal princess, princess." Odalia said. "It's what's best for the family." "What's best for the family is putting an end to all of this." Alador explains, using his magic to destroy the Abomatons. "You're destroying our life's work!" Odalia shouted. "But I won't let you destroy it any further." "This work is finished." Alador said. "Also, I quit." "Fine. I've been meaning to find a more competent business partner anyway." Odalia scoffed. "And you won't be getting your severance package." "Oh, Titan. That was terrifying." Alador said. "Willow, wait!" Amity shouted as Willow ran to the abandoned airship. "Come on, stupid thing. We have to follow them!" Willow shouted, pulling a bunch of levers. "Dad, can you use that thing to shut down the Abomatons at the head?" Amity asked. "You're going to go rescue your friend and your sister. You'll need a pilot." Alador replied, turning to me. "And Luz, I apologize for Odalia. You're always welcome in our home." As soon as him and Amity touched me, the illusion disappeared, but what caught me by surprise was that Alexa was here the whole time, instead of Peter. "Alexa!" Alador gasped. "You're safe." "What's going on?" Amity asked. "I'm sorry. It happened so fast." I explained. "I didn't even realize what was happening until she was gone." "I thought I was hallucinating, but then I realized I was wearing Peter's clothes, and everything else." Alexa added. "They, they wanted to protect you." Gus explains, very weakly. "And Eda." "Then, that means..." Willow began. "Luz and Peter are being taken to Belos." Amity finished.
