A Techie's Ideal Summer
It was officially summer vacation, and Percy was doing what he always does during this time of year: video games and inventing!
Percy's bedroom doubled as his laboratory, and just like his brain, it was completely scattered with dozens of unfinished projects.
He'd already gotten his handmade computer all started up, and now he was ready to get to work with his Inventor's Log! His nimble fingers quickly skipped all around the keyboard, typing out:
Inventor's Log: The other day, at Lenny's birthday party, he brought up the topic of emotion-powered generators, which I find quite fascinating. Perhaps if somebody built something like that, and possibly found a way to convert emotions into fuel, the world's energy crisis and maybe even global warming could potentially be resolved! Oh, Lenny can be such a genius at times!
Thinking about the invention's potential got Percy really fired up and enthusiastic, so he decided to do what he does whenever he gets fired up: go downstairs to calm down with a cup of chamomile tea (a calming method that he'd learned from Geoffrey). As he was sipping it, he happily (in a calm kind of way) said, "Ahh. That's much better."
"Hey, sweetie," his mom chimed as she walked into the kitchen, "I'm guessing you got hyped up about an invention idea again."
"I did," Percy responded, "I tell you, whenever Geoffrey gives calming advice, he always knows what he's talking about."
"Okay," Mrs. Overwood said, "what was your invention idea?"
"An emotion-powered generator," Percy answered, "Lenny gave me the idea the other day. It could potentially resolve a lot of energy-related dilemmas in the world."
"Neat," his mom went out to continue her work, "good luck with that."
With regained composure, Percy also went back to his work. He got to his computer and continued typing:
Now as Thomas Edison once said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration." Therefore, I'm gonna have to go over the machine's requirements and the steps for building it.
Just then, Percy's bedroom "Visitor Alert" went off. He went over to the door to see who was there. It was his dad. Again. Percy opened the door and greeted him, "Hi, Dad. What's the emergency? Is there something wrong with the car?"
"Actually, sport," his father replied, "I was just wondering if you and I could play outside and, y'know, play some baseball?"
"Actually, Dad," Percy said, "I'm pretty busy with my inventions. Besides, you know sports aren't my thing."
"You sure are spending a lot of time in your room," Mr. Overwood commented with a notable trace of concern, "I just don't think that's healthy for a growing body like yours."
"Oh, don't worry about that," Percy calmly tried to reassure his father, "I do have a window in my room, don't I? Now I'll get back to work. See you later!" He went back into his room.
The attempt was only slightly successful, as Mr. Overwood immediately responded, "That's good, but is it good enough?"
It would have to be, though, as Mr Overwood's question was only met with a quiet wave of Percy's paw, motioning his father to leave him in private to continue his project.
