the incident in the corridor: coralena's pov
description: This is a scene from Engraved Love from Coralena LePaul's perspective. If you don't know which one I'm talking about, it was when the Death Eater's showed up to take Ophelia to Greyback. (see: 17 | cat fights and betrayals)

I'm sorry but I can't do this anymore.
As soon as Coralena had carved the line into the table, she immediately left the library. Stick to the plan, she reminded herself. Stick to the plan and it will all work itself out.
But what if this was an awful idea?
No, she scolded. The Dark Lord will be pleased when you succeed.
She shook her head slightly as she dispelled the argument from her head. She hadn't the slightest clue as to how she ended up here.
That wasn't true. She knew exactly what she had done to get here. Or who she had done to be more specific. This was all because of Lucius Malfoy and his stupid alluring smile and his ridiculously attractive smirk. It's not as though she fought very hard against his charms.
She made her way through the corridors, her mind wandering. Now it was a waiting game. Once Ophelia-
"How could you do this to me?" Ophelia demanded. Coralena turned around in surprise. She didn't think the girl would figure it out so easily but then again, she was in Ravenclaw for a reason.
Ophelia's eyes filled with tears and Coralena faltered. She hadn't seen her friend cry in a long time and to be the one who caused it...No, she cut herself off, This is what has to happen.
"I did you a favor," Coralena replied simply. It was true, to an extent. The farther away from the blood traitors that Ophelia was, the better. "He could never care for someone like you."
"Someone like me?" Ophelia scoffed. Coralena rested her hands behind her back, waving her wand along the newly embedded tattoo on her arm, just as she had been told to. "If you're referring to what everyone refers to as 'Loony Lovegood,' you of all people should know that that's not me."
"Isn't it though?" she inquired. "Even Reggie said-"
"You don't get to talk about him!" Ophelia exclaimed, her hair turning a vibrant red. She made a valid point. It was, indeed, Coralena's fault that he had died. Not that Ophelia knew that. "Keep his name out of your mouth."
Those who had been passing by stopped at the outburst, intrigued by what was going on. They would regret doing that in a moment.
"I should be the one saying that to you," Coralena hissed, stepping toward the girl. "After all, you're the reason he's dead."
Ophelia closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. Good, Coralena thought to herself, I hit a nerve. She opened her eyes after a moment, "Stay away from me, would you?"
I can't have that. As Ophelia started to walk away, Coralena drew her wand, sending a hex her way.
The people who had been watching gasped as James Potter jumped in front of the girl, conjuring a rather flimsy shield.
Coralena scowled as Ophelia turned around, "He requested only you." Her gaze flickered from Ophelia to James, her head cocking to the side as she smiled menacingly, "But I'm sure he'd love an extra snack."
James seemed to grow confused at this and Coralena rolled her eyes. Surely he knew about Ophelia's affliction by now and if he hadn't then it wouldn't be long before he did.
"Merlin, Lena," Ophelia spoke up and Coralena looked at her. The girl had a frown on her face and her hair appeared to be a light blue color. Coralena scowled at the idea of Ophelia of all people pitying her. "What has Malfoy done for you?"
"Lucius hasn't done anything but help me embrace who I really am," Coralena said pointedly. Was this who she really was? Someone who would turn her best friend of almost seven years over to deranged lunatic? James stepped in front Ophelia protectively and Coralena rolled her eyes at his valiant efforts. "And I'm not here on his orders. I'm here for Greyback."
It was clear that Coralena had struck yet another nerve in her old friend as her hair began to change to a dark grey. It seemed that the mention of Greyback was a summoning word because Peter, Remus and Sirius surrounded the pair who were already staring Coralena down.
Or maybe she had underestimated her friend's abilities to make people care about her. There had always been something about her that made it impossible not to want to protect her. After all, that was why Coralena had gone through all of this in the first place. Well, mostly why.
Coralena didn't know if she should be impressed that they thought that they needed more than two people to take her down or if she should feel pity for Ophelia because they didn't think she could handle herself. Not that she would have been able to handle what was coming on her own.
"You're more than welcome to join," she informed them as she looked at the three boys. Her sight landed on Remus and she smirked, "I'm sure he'd be elated to see you after all these years."
"You're just a little outnumbered," James informed her. Coralena had to give him credit for his bravery. She assumed this was the Gryffindor lion in him talking. If anyone was the perfect representation of a Gryffindor, it was James Potter.
Ophelia's hand shot forward and she gripped James's hand. Coralena looked down at their conjoined hands and she shook her head slightly. Ophelia wasn't in Gryffindor for many reasons and her reaction in situations like these proved it to be the right call. She had always been far too reliant on others for her own good.
Coralena felt the familiar tingling sensation in her arm and she knew it was time. "I beg to differ," she replied with a smirk and before any of them could react, people apparated around her. And not just people but Death Eaters.
"The Dark Lord will be pleased with you," Bellatrix announced and Coralena felt herself beam at the idea. The woman brushed her hair behind her ear causing her to grin.
Along with Bellatrix, her sister Narcissa had come and so had her fiancé, Rodolphus Lestrange. His brother was there as well and so was Lucius. They had brought along two others that Coralena couldn't be bothered to remember the names of.
The attack started up a moment later, Rodolphus's brother acting prematurely. It was easy enough to attack the group seeing as they were unprepared. Coralena had her sights set on James Potter, the person who had taken her best friend from her.
"Just give up, Potter," Coralena suggested as she shot a spell his way. He dodged it swiftly and she scowled. She had forgotten that he was a good dueler.
She had the upper hand on his, sending a Stupefy spell his way when someone called her name. She looked over and during the moment of distraction, James shot an Impedimenta spell at her.
Coralena fell to the ground, binded by invisible spells as the battle continued on. She couldn't help but note that all of the James sent her way had been harmless.
She scrambled to her feet as soon as the spell wore off. "Long time no see, cus," she could hear Sirius say and she concluded a moment later that he had been talking to Bellatrix, not Narcissa.
"Is that the best you got?" Sirius mused as he blocked yet another spell. He sent a spell the girls way and she scowled at the boy.
"You filthy blood traitor," Bellatrix hissed and Coralena couldn't help but agree. The boy was a fool.
It was clear to anyone that the Death Eaters were winning. They were far more experienced but the other side was putting up a hell of a fight.
When Coralena felt the familiar sensation in her arm and the exchange of looks between her peers, she knew it was over. And she had failed at her task.
Lucius walked over to her and grabbed her arm. Coralena locked eyes with Ophelia, sending her a somewhat apologetic look before disapparating.
author's note: And here is the first one shot! I'm aware that this was during the duration of the book so technically it's not an 'Adventure After Hogwarts,' but oh well. I wanted to get something out for you guys and I'm sorry if this wasn't what you were looking for seeing as it's not really anything new but I thought it would be interesting for y'all to know what was going through Coralena's head in this scene.
I do plan to have one shots in which we learn more about how Coralena met Lucius and where she ended up after this scene but that's for later.
Anyway, I'm hoping to have something completely new out for you soon but we'll see. I have less than a month left of school until I graduate and in order to do that I kind of need to pass my classes so I am prioritizing that but I promise I'm not neglecting this book. I absolutely despise when an author publishes a story and makes it seem like they'll finish it and never does so I refuse to be that kind of author. While this is a one shot book, I did make promises and I intend to keep them.
On another note, I know I normally don't do author notes at the end of chapters and that's because I feel like it interrupts the flow of the book, but I think it's okay here seeing as they are one shots and there's really no flow to it so I'll probably be doing more of these however they definitely won't be this long.
Anyway, feel free to comment or private message me requests. If you have anything you're interested in please let me know and I will do my best to deliver.
