47: This chapter ‼️WILL‼️ be boring
Eat food, drink water, and get 5+ hours of sleep tonight or ChrolloOnTopOfMe will eat your cats (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )
You left the game shortly after Hisoka did. Only staying long enough to see Chrollo and Illumi's annoyed reactions.
"I'm gonna cut his head off," this and "Disgusting clown who can't keep his mouth shut" that.
If there was anything they hated more than each other, it was Hisoka.
Dropping your phone, you crushed it under your foot. It was technically untraceable, and protected by hundreds of tracker-preventers, you couldn't be too careful.
You stretched, sighing as you collapsed back onto the couch.
You should leave, you had been here too long. Especially with the potential that your location might be compromised, after how long you had stayed on call with your three biggest threats.
You're sure Killua will kill you once he finds out how reckless you're being. After all the effort he put into helping you escape.
But you were just.. tired. God knows how long it has been since you had started planning your escape from them. Months at the very least.
And it had been about a month since you first met Hisoka at the Hunter exam. And you still couldn't wrap your head around the fact that you were a Zoldyck now.
You missed the way things were before. You knew the trio all picked up on it, too. You're sure that they'll use it to manipulate you when they get their hands on you.
"If," You reminded yourself with a sigh, "if they get their hands on me."
—
"You want to learn Nen?" Netero asked, laughing as you stood before him. Two bodyguards, assumedly also hunters, standing beside him. You doubt they were actually necessary.
"Yes." Nodding, your eyes flicking around the room for any sign of cameras. It went against your goal of disappearing off the face of the earth, after all.
"And you want me to teach you, L/n?" He confirmed, despite his laid back demeanor, you could tell he was watching you. Reading your expressions and movements.
"It's Zoldyck now, actually," You corrected meekly, meeting his eye once more. Maybe correcting him wasn't the best way to get your way. You never were well prepared.
"Oh?" It seemed the old man liked gossip, sitting up straighter, "You and Illumi, I see I see."
"Against my will," You added for clarification, trying to stay as professional as possible, "I'm on the run."
"I can see why," Netero stood, moving around his desk to meet you, "The Zoldyck lifestyle isn't for everyone, now is it?"
"..Not gonna turn me in or anything, are you?" You didn't know his relationship with the Zoldycks. You could only hope he'd be impartial.
"How about a walk, can't help but notice how stuffy it is, hm?" He ignored your question, heading for the door. Expecting you to follow.
And you did. Silently following him through the twisting halls, and out into the garden.
"I don't often take in students, Zoldyck," You almost wished you hadn't corrected him. The last name just didn't feel right. Sending a shiver down your spine.
"So it's a no?" You asked softly, following after him in the garden. Despite his HORRENDOUS shoes of choice, he was still hard to keep pace with.
"Not exactly," He reassured, looking back at you. A hint of curiosity in his eyes, "I can teach you how to open your aura nodes. After that, you must find someone else to train you."
You stared in confusion. Tilting your head, trying to figure out exactly what 'aura nodes' could be. A Nen thing, obviously, but..
Netero just laughed in amusement at your confusion. Continuing on his walk as he waited for you to catch up.
—
"So, what's a Nen type?" You asked an unsuspecting Hunter, who only wanted to meet the chairman in peace.
"Um.. do you mean my Nen type, or-" The poor girl seemed confused, looking around for help that wouldn't come.
"No, like what's a Nen type." You repeated, staring at them expectantly, "I just started learning Nen."
"Oh, well it's.., do you even know hatsu?"
Your eyes lit up at the new information, "What's that?"
Before they could explain, Netero called them into his office. Earning a glare from you, to which he just smiled.
—
"What's Hatsu?" Assuming you had to know hatsu before 'Nen types', considering the other Hunter's wording, you looked at the new comer.
It had been two weeks since you saw the other Hunter, and Netero refused to answer your questions. Insistent that he'd only teach you to open your aura nodes, and nothing more.
"What?" The Hunter asked in confusion.
"Ignore them," A bodyguard, or secretary you couldn't tell, ushered them away, "please follow me, sir."
—
"Tell me what Hatsu is quickly, don't ask questions," You switched your tactic the next time you saw an unsuspecting target. Knowing that people would be watching you. Waiting to interfere.
"One of the four principles..?" They replied as though it was obvious.
"Great!" You clasped your hands together, "What are those?"
"Please ignore them, they're ignoring the chairman's rules." Someone cut in, shooing you away.
You just huffed and obliged. This wasn't a total defeat.
—
"The four principles, list those." You demanded, the second you saw someone Hunter-like unattended.
"What?"
"Quickly." You hissed, looking around to see if anyone was around to interfere.
"Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu? Is this a test?" He asked, now looking around too.
"Sure," You didn't have time to explain that you were forcefully making them teach you, "Explain them all as quickly as possible-"
"That won't be necessary," Netero cut in, appearing behind you, ignoring your glare of disapproval, "Why don't you go back to meditating, Y/n?"
"You haven't won yet, old man." You hissed as you walked off. You were slowly learning more and more.
—
"Hi, don't ask questions, explain the four principles to me." You didn't bother with formalities, there was never enough time. The people who came to speak with the chairman were always gone too quick.
"No." The man replied, the first person to not look confused by your questions.
"Yes," You countered, ignoring their denial, "what's Ten?"
"The number after nine and before eleven."
"Walked into that one.." You grumbled to yourself, before staring at the man, "You didn't look like you could count, to be fair."
"I don't care."
"You don't shower, either. Clearly."
Before the man could respond, Netero was back to interrupt your fun, "Ging, a pleasure to see you once more,"
"Why was I called here on such short notice?" He asked, still ignoring you.
Netero shooed you away with a wave of his hand. Leading Apple-Bottom-Jeans, or whatever his name was, away, "Let's talk privately, hm?"
"Cowards." You grumbled, watching the disappear.
You're starting to think Netero was just inviting all these people here as a taunt. All these people who could teach you, if he wasn't stopping them.
—
Three months later, you finally managed to awaken your aura nodes.
Not that you minded. Netero had promised you complete safety from the Phantom Troupe and Zoldycks while you were under his training. So it was like a vacation, almost.
It was kind of funny. That after playing Minecraft with the three of them all day, you really did disappear. No texts, calls. Like you had never existed at all.
"I will tell you," You immediately focused back on Netero, he never told you much, very set on the agreement to not actually teach you, "you've learned far quicker than most."
"What does that mean?" An answer wasn't expected. Netero loved leaving people on the edge of their seats. Sadistic old man
"Who knows for sure?" He laughed, ruffling your hair as he turned to leave, "Maybe you're gifted. Maybe it was just your dire situation."
You watched as he left. Rolling your eyes at his non-answer.
"Annoying old man," You grumbled. He wasn't your teacher anymore, so you could say that. Not that you really cared about not insulting him when he was your teacher.
Talking about teachers, you needed to get yourself one of those.
Somebody who was a good Nen user, willing to teach you specifically, able to defend themselves from the Zoldycks and Phantom Troupe, and wouldn't kill you for being affiliated with the Zoldycks and Troupe.
Easy. You basically just crossed out ninety-eight percent of Hunters.
And the two percent remaining were the hardest to find. Best of the best.
But you had someone in mind.
Word Count: 1577
Fun Facts:
• Didn't particularly like this chapter, but I needed a time skip so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
• Zushi was a 1 in 100,000 and took 3 months to open his aura nodes, just so you know:) also, kinda funny how all these great Nen teachers were being paraded in front of Y/n.. almost like Netero was giving you hints..
• Y/n is going to be a specialist. There were three personality based Nen types that suit
Y/n: Specialist, Transmuter, and Manipulator
Transmuter and Specialist were the closest because they're the most secretive/tricky Nen types (Manipulator sounded right because
Y/n's well, manipulating everyone so they can escape, but it just didn't fit)
The reason I chose Specialist over Transmuter is because Y/n's been displayed as more Charismatic. And Transmuter are often seen as weirdos or tricksters. (According to the HxH wiki)
