Annihilation

As a reader I can attest that we are all guilty of judging a book by its cover.  Annihilation By DoctorRockHard had me sold based on the cover. Hold the summary, this book is being added to my will be reading list immediately.

Granted judging by the cover does not always yield the results we expect, but I assure you this book delivered. Divulge into this  cyber punk romance following a woman who has a love for steal components and cold abs of a literal robot, whose programing falls in line with fulfilling her desires.

A cyborg stripper that offers additional services for his esteemed customers at an unlikely strip club in what may be a shady part of town.

DoctorRockHard creates great visuals and even better characters with strong unshakable beliefs. Our main lead Genesis places no caps on her emotions. She is honest and vulnerable towards her feelings and desire.

Our robot, her object of infatuation evolves through each chapter, with each interaction with our female lead. The progression of the story reveals our robot may have a lot more programed than just working in the night life.

In a society where technology has advanced at the possible cost of wiping out traces of other life forms, this cyborg has a deeper purpose. The conflict at hand is can Genesis allow her feelings to fully blossom from a crush to something more, for a man made of cold hard steel.

The answer to that little dilemma might be greater than your average boy meets girl trope solution. The higher purpose of this cyborg might be a little to much for the average girl to handle. Does his new agenda change who he is, love requires you take the robot as their are.

Faults and all, maybe even world domination.

This novel instilled a new love, for monsters and humans, falling in love. It also left me with questions I wanted to explore.

Are humans the true monsters? Or is it just our creations?  If our creations are inherently monsters what does that say about the creators?

Interview

Firstly let's start with a little bit of information about yourself, as a writer and a person. Who are you?

I'm a dark, romantic person. I adore the macabre and love that transcends this realm. Monsters and humans united as lovers is something that isn't so popular in movies or well known books. I always find it much more satisfying and unique when a character finds themselves falling for a being that doesn't have a six pack, is a "bad boy", etc. I think we see so much of that these days, it's always good to try something different. The books I write are books that I would love to read. I think that's an important rule to go by. Write what you want to read.

You stated that you enjoy writing about monsters falling in love with humans, What do you classify as the distinction between monster and human?

The difference lies in their nature and characteristics. Monsters may seem fearsome, yet they are misunderstood. Humans, on the other hand, see themselves as superior over things they do not understand.... but they are ultimately weak. I find it interesting when two very different sides become tangled together. Depending on the characters and their personalities- the way they handle each other varies.

Where did the concept for the book Annihilation come from

I wrote the first chapter sitting in a car after getting dumped by my ex. At the time I wanted to distract myself from the pain. The main character is based off of me (as most of my characters are). I envisioned myself as her, going to a nightclub to see a sexy robot. I suppose most people nowadays hire sex workers to forget their loneliness. I did the same only I didn't actually do it in real life. "I" did it in my book.

What was the main theme you wanted to showcase with this book

Annihilation and all my other books share a common theme. Humanity is destroying the planet. Pollution, wars, murders...the list goes on. Sticking to Annihilation only- technology is advancing and humanity thinks itself superior over it. A lot of people are just too proud to admit that we don't know everything. One day it's going to strike back, and we won't know what to do when it does.

What was the outline when writing this story, what came first to you, the main lead, the ending etc?

I first thought of the robot. I knew how I wanted him to be, and where I wanted him to end up. Then the girl came in mind, and then the nightclub and it slowly progressed. I didn't actually have a plan as to how I was going to flesh this story out. I just randomly come up with ideas a few seconds before typing them out. That's usually how I write.

Were there any moments in the process of writing Annihilation where you felt lost with the direction the novel took.

Oh yes. This happens to me many times when I'm writing. I get stuck in a part that feels like it's going nowhere and I have to walk away from it. Sometimes, it takes a few days and other times months to come up with an idea. Annihilation was short. I knew I had to end it before it became a random mess of unnecessary scenarios. That is why the second book is currently in the works...

Is there a specific novel or writer that has inspired you?

The beauty and the beast story, for obvious reasons. A monster and a human falling in love. The only tragedy was he was human all along.

If the opportunity came for you to be any character you've currently written, who would you be and why?

"God" in my book Hunting Season is a badass beast who protects his forest from hunters. I have a huge soft spot for animals and I strongly dislike hunting, so I relate to him in that way. On a side note, God's appearance was based on a creepy photo I took of myself a while back. It would also be fun to be in the shoes of the women the monsters fall for, though.

If the situation arose where you had to be confined in a room with any of the monsters you've written, give us your pick?

I would like to be in a room with all of them. Haha. But if I had to pick just one, it would be Hallow King. He's wickedly fun and I'm sure he'd keep me entertained for hours.

If you had the opportunity to go back in time with the knowledge you have now what would you change?

I'd finish a whole story, proofread, then finally upload it. I'd also take my time, make my books longer. It's actually what I'm doing now with a book I am currently working on.
