A/N: Jimin acting like a captain makes me act up and drool
That's today's tmi!!!!
~The Next Day || 11:03~
Hoseok doesn't speak, he only watches as Yoongi hands the rose to Sapphire, who's blushing intensely. Yoongi took advice from Hoseok and decided to show Sapphire that maybe he does care after all. Maybe he does have feelings. It's a cute gesture, and based on her reaction: she loves it. Hoseok's confused as to the status of their relationship, are they dating or...? He never pressed before, but now he's kind of curious.
Yoongi hops away from her doorstep, a shy smile on his face as he crosses the street and approaches Hoseok, who offers the man a bright smile. "She looked happy," Hoseok says.
Yoongi nods. "She said thank you at least ten times."
"Aww, you two are cute together, really." Yoongi gives Hoseok a dumb smile. "I'm proud of you Yoons," Hoseok says, trying to contain his excitement. Hoseok wants to jump and dance around, but he knows Yoongi will look at him funny. "How are you feeling?"
"Good actually. I feel like I'm getting a better grasp on this whole thing."
"I'm glad, and I'm glad I could help." To Hobi's surprise, Yoongi gives him a small nudge. "I'm really glad too, to be honest. Um, would it be weird..." Yoongi trails off, fiddling his fingers.
"You can talk to me Yoons, whatever you need. What's up?"
"You really are a problem solver," Yoongi says with a chuckle. "Okay uh, would it be weird if I were to call you my first real friend?"
Hoseok's eyes widen, and Yoongi seems taken aback. "Oh no, I didn't mean that in a bad way, I'm just shocked. It's not everyday the coldest member of your crew says that you're their first real friend," Hoseok says. Yoongi smiles at Hoseok's words. "And to answer your question, it wouldn't be weird. I consider you a friend too." Hoseok holds out his fist, and Yoongi looks at it, confused. "Fist bump?" Hoseok asks. Yoongi lights up in understanding, then bumps his fist against Hoseok's. "Bam, securing our friendship. Now no matter what we bicker and fight over, we have to stay friends."
"I didn't see that in the contract," Yoongi says back, causing Hoseok to laugh. Yoongi smiles as Hoseok dials down, shaking his head.
"You're actually pretty funny Yoongi," Hoseok says. At Yoongi's soft expression, Hoseok beams. "And you're cute when you smile."
Yoongi instantly scowls. "I'm not cute."
"Ehhh you kind of are," Hobi teases.
"Am not."
"Are too."
"Am not."
"Are too-"
"Boys, boys. Enough bickering for one day," a female voice says.
A female walks into their view, black locks and a porcelain face. She looks faintly familiar. "Uh, who are you?" Yoongi asks blatantly. Hoseok has to stifle his laugh.
"Oh right, you weren't at the lab with Jimin. I'm Alice, I believe you met my partner, Anya, and this one here." She pauses to point to Yoongi. "Is seeing my friend Sapphire?"
Yoongi almost trips. "S-Something like that."
Alice smiles warmly, giving Yoongi a comforting look. "She seems to like you from what she's told me."
"She talks about me?" Yoongi asks in disbelief.
"She's told me a thing or two. I actually came by to drop off some samples. As I told your friends, you're welcome by the lab anytime, we could always use outside opinions."
Hoseok, not really knowing what else to do, politely bows. "Thank you."
Alice only smiles. "No need to be so formal, I'm not in the lab so I'd say I'm off duty. It's nice to officially meet you."
Hoseok returns her smile. "Nice to meet you too."
She hesitates, then motions to the bag in her hands. "Time to drop off those samples. I was hoping she could help me look over them. She's pretty good at making me relax."
"Yeah, I understand that feeling," Yoongi says. Hoseok can't help but let out an 'awe'. This boy is so whipped for that girl. Hoseok genuinely hopes it works out: Yoons could use some experience. There's a beep on Yoongi's comm. He goes still. Yoongi takes another moment, then brings the device to his mouth. "Hello?"
"Yoongi! We need you back at the Moon now! Is Hoseok with you?" Jimin's frantic voice says. Alice appears concerned and Hoseok shares the feeling.
"He is, what's going on?"
There's a pause. "There's been a breach, we're needed in the southern city. There's a dozen Goliaths trying to break out," Jimin explains.
Hoseok and Yoongi share a long look. "Shit," Hoseok whispers.
"We'll be there as fast as possible, sir," Yoongi says, turning off the comm. "It was nice meeting you," Yoongi mutters before storming away.
Hoseok's left shocked, giving Alice an apologetic look. "Go do your job," she says, and Hoseok nods.
"Thanks, good luck with the samples." Alice shyly smiles as Hoseok takes off after Yoongi, heading to the northern entrance. Well, one thing's for sure.
This is going to be a long day.
~11:13~
"Jin! I need you!"
"Most people do-"
"Shut up and get over here!"
Jin does as he's told, kneeling next to Jimin, who's head is in some panel. "What's going on?" Jin asks.
"I don't know, the Moon is acting up for some reason. Our main engine is being bitchier than Yoongi."
Yoongi walks by, blinking. "I'm right here you know."
"My point stands. Can you check this out? I'm going outside to take a look."
"On it," Jin says, waiting for Jimin to stand and stomp away. Jin takes his spot, looking into the wires with confusion. He's designed ships before, so these wires should be no problem, but for some reason they are. "What the hell?" Jin mutters. Having Jimin and Jin being the only two engineers on a cruiser makes for a lot of work, especially when one of those two engineers also happens to be the damn Captain. Jin grumbles to himself as he inspects each individual wire and system, checking to see what's going on. "Come on, talk to me, what's going on," Jin whispers, rifling through the mass of wires until he finally finds the problem. It's been cut.
"Jimin!" Jin calls.
"I'll go get him," Taehyung says, jumping down into the bay and departing to find the Captain.
"What's going on with my ship?" Baekhyun asks, trotting onto the bridge and looking at Jin expectantly.
"There's a wire that's been cut, I need my sealing tape to put it back together."
"Okay, where is it? I'll get it," Seulgi asks.
"My quarters, I have a toolbox under my bed." She nods, rushing off to do it.
"We need to get moving!" Jungkook shouts, climbing onto the bridge and spotting Jin. "Jin, status update?" he asks, approaching the man.
"The main wire has been cut."
"Main wire?" Hoseok asks, eyes wide.
"They normally hide those in the back to make sure they don't get damaged, but this one is," Jin explains, and Hoseok nods in understanding. Jin peeks through the wires and notices that only the main one is damaged. His heart stops in time for Jimin to rush back onto the bridge.
"What's the problem? There doesn't seem to be an external damage."
"That's because there isn't. The main wire has been cut."
"It's been cut?" Jimin asks, bewildered. "Let me see." He kneels next to Jin, and once again the man digs through the wires, Jin holding them so Jimin can see the precise cut made. "What the hell?" Jimin asks in a whisper.
"Does that mean we're stuck here?" Yoongi asks, and Jin shakes his head.
"No, no. The main wire is meant to connect the main controls to the engine, which is why the Moon won't take off when Baekhyun tells her to. All I have to do is seal it back together, but it certainly slows us down," Jin says, causing Yoongi to nod. "Jimin," Jin starts, and the Captain hums. "I know I haven't seen many Martian ships before, but that cut..."
"It looks too precise to be on accident," Jimin whispers back, nodding. "Shit..."
"What's going on?" Jungkook asks, causing Jin to sigh.
"I think someone sabotaged us," Jimin says.
"What the fuck? How?" Y/N asks, then her face falls. "Oh no, you don't think this could be the work of that group, do you?"
"I hope not," Jimin replies in a mutter, rubbing his fingers on his temple. "Okay, get this patched up. Y/N, Baekhyun, get into the cockpit and prepare for take off. Jungkook oversee the bridge, Hoseok and Yoongi get on the guns. As soon as you see the creatures. start blasting." Everyone nods, accepting their assignments. "Taehyung, can you go get our EMP blasters please?" The boy nods and dashes off to the armory, passing Seulgi as she climbs onto the bridge, a toolbox in her hand.
"I wasn't sure what it looked like, I just brought the whole thing," she says, placing the toolbox next to Jin.
"That's fine, thank you," Jin says, turning into his serious mode as he opens the box as Jimin watches, motioning to Seulgi without looking at her.
"Seul, go assist Taehyung in the armory," Jimin says. She nods and dashes off again as Jin goes through the box, finding the clear sealing tape and ripping off a long piece.
"Jimin, can you lend me a hand?" Jin asks. Jimin agrees, parting the clump of wires with his hands, allowing Jin easy access to the main wire in the center. He carefully places them together.
"I'm getting a read on the engines, whatever you're doing, keep doing it!" Y/N calls from the cockpit.
"On it!" Jin calls back, tying the wires together. Once they're tied decently, he uses the tape and wraps it around gently, making sure it's tight enough.
"I have a full read, we're ready for take off!" Y/N says.
Jin lets out a sigh of relief. "Thanks Captain."
"Don't mention it. Jungkook, can you go close the doors please?" Jungkook nods and immediately does as he's told. Seulgi and Taehyung are in the bay, holding guns and armor.
"So, we're going to war, huh?" Jin asks, and Jimin somberly nods.
"Hopefully not for long. Just round up those creatures and come back here to celebrate."
Jin agrees, about to stand to go help Seulgi and Tae when Jimin grabs his arm. "Sir?" Jin instinctively asks. Jimin locks eyes with him. Jin can't help but feel intimidated. Jimin's scary sometimes despite his small size. After all, the shorter boy knows how to fight. Jin wouldn't want to get on Jimin's bad side.
"You've proven yourself massively around here. I can't thank you enough. I know you saved Y/N and Jungkook's lives on Ganymede. They mean more to me than anything in this world. Thank you."
"Anytime." He wants to make a joke, but he feels like this isn't the time.
"I know you're from Sturgeon, so metals aren't exactly your strong suit, but if you want an official rank as apart of the crew, I'd be more than happy to give you one."
Jin's eyes jump. Is this it? Is he officially being made apart of the crew? "I would love that," Jin replies, and Jimin slyly smiles.
"Welcome aboard... Silver Engineer Kim Seokjin."
Jin feels the air leave his body for a second. He worked hard, and now he officially has a crew. A home. A family. "Thank you," Jin whispers, knowing not to joke or get too self-confident.
Jimin claps him on the shoulder, giving the man a firm nod. "You deserve it. I think I need to be giving out more promotions. I'd say everyone earned one."
Jin smiles as the Captain stands, giving Jin one last nod before going to the cockpit to check in on Y/N and Baekhyun. The ship rattles, signaling that they're in the air. He's sure they'll depart the main dome soon, so Jin decides to go down into the bay, joining Taehyung and Seulgi as they charge the weapons.
"Everything good?" Jin asks, and the two hum.
"Everything good with you?" Seulgi asks, able to read right through him. Dammit, she's trained too well.
Jin lets out a breath. "I just got made into a silver engineer." Taehyung's eyes widen, and Seulgi squeals, immediately bouncing forward and hugging him.
He chuckles, then returns the embrace. He's honestly fond of Seulgi. He can tell she wasn't fond of him at first, but she looks at him differently now. Almost as if she's looking at him with respect.
When she pulls back, she gives him a wide smile. "You've earned it. You're one of us now. All that's left is for Taehyung and Yoongi to get their official jobs."
"You think he'll give us ones too?" Taehyung asks while playing with his fingers, and Seulgi hums.
"I know so."
"Platinum is right around the corner for you too, Seul," Jin says.
Seulgi pauses for a moment, her eyes expanding for a beat before she snickers and breaks out into a wide smile. "Thank you," she whispers.
He motions to the blasters. "Need any help?"
"Not at the moment, all nine look to be charged and ready. Armor is good to go, you could strap in now if you'd like."
Jin agrees and quickly straps the armor around himself, feeling bulky and protected. "If they get close, will this honestly do any good?"
Taehyung shrugs. "You could go out there naked."
"They wouldn't be able to handle all of me."
"I take back everything nice I've ever said about you," Seulgi replies, causing Jin to bust out his windshield wiper laugh.
The two look at him funny, raising brows and looking confused. Tae slightly laughs as well, amused, but Seulgi only looks scarred for life. "I'm going to die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy," she says with a sigh, shaking her head. "Where's Hoseok?" she asks with a whine, going up to the bridge as fast as she can.
"They're cute together, don't you think?" Taehyung asks, and Jin can't disagree.
"Six out of the nine of us have relationships. Well, more like seven since Yoongi is with Sapphire now."
"Wow, we're all getting some," Taehyung says, and Jin hums. Taehyung peeps over at Jin, raising a brow and scanning him up and down. "Have your eyes on anyone?"
"Yeah, the mirror."
Taehyung grunts but brushes it off. "Seriously though, don't you ever... I don't know, want a love life?"
Jin's left eye twitches. "I don't know."
Taehyung hesitates, chewing on his lower lip before replying. "Is... everything okay?"
For some strange reason, Jin trusts Taehyung. Not enough to tell him everything, but enough to give him a more solid answer. "I have felt lonely, but every time I've loved someone it blew up in my face. Every single time. More than just with partners." Taehyung gives him a sympathetic look, but Jin shakes it away. "Maybe that's why I make all the jokes I make, because I want to love myself first. I want to trust myself again, so I can allow myself to love."
Taehyung's jaw drops, and Jin can't blame him. Yeah, the Jin just opened up to him. "Wow... honestly, that's pretty incredible," Tae says.
"Thanks I try."
Taehyung chuckles. "I'm serious, Jin. Come to think of it, I don't know too much about you, but I'm glad I know more now. Thank you for sharing."
"It feels good to tell someone."
"Whenever you need an ear, Doctor Tae is here."
"That's my cue to leave." Jin walks away as Taehyung laughs, preparing to move to the bridge when the Moon shakes again. Jin is nearly thrown from his feet, but he recovers and gulps. "Are we here already?" Jin asks as Jimin descends, jumping into the bay.
"The Moon is a fast ship." Jimin pauses to rub the walls of the ship, his lips breaking out into a proud smile. "That's our girl. I bet we can win some racing competitions. Plus, the southern city isn't that far away from the northern one, which is why we were called in the first place. Everyone gear up, no bullshit splitting up this time. We stay together no matter what, you hear me?"
Jin and Taehyung nod just as Hoseok and Yoongi come running back into the bay. "We didn't have any visual on any Goliaths, sir," Hoseok says, and Jimin huffs.
"Neither did we. We landed not too far away, we need to hurry." The rest pile into the bay, strapping their armor around themselves. Jin watches as Seulgi helps Hoseok with his, and Jin can't help but stare longingly. Maybe he does want that, but his past is too busy dragging him down.
He scans over the area, then sees Jungkook approaching Tae. He's close enough that he can hear their words. "Thanks for being here," Jungkook says quietly, grabbing Tae's hand. He brings it to his lips, gently kissing the skin there and rubbing his thumb over the back of Tae's hand.
"Thanks for being you," Taehyung replies, causing Jungkook to smile. Jin shakes his head, looking away, and of course the first thing he sees is Jimin and Y/N.
They stand close together, grinning while Y/N shows off her armor. Jimin goes to tickle her, causing her to laugh and jump away. Jin softly smiles at the sight, watching as Jimin leans towards her, placing his lips over hers. Jin would feel like a weirdo if he watched their kiss, so he focuses on himself again. He grabs his EMP and makes sure it's fully charged before stepping towards the door.
Baekhyun walks over to him, placing his hand on Jin's shoulder. "You have wide shoulders, did you know that?"
Jin smirks. "Yeah, yeah I know." Baekhyun wordlessly stands next to Jin, watching the now-fixed doors to the Moon. Kai sent a team to fix it, and the crew couldn't be happier. Now neither Jimin or Jin have to repair a giant door. "You're a good man, Baekhyun," Jin whispers, causing the Pilot to go stiff. "You made some good points a while back, and I want you to know that whatever you need, I'll support you."
"I still stand by my points. Really, I do, but there's more to life than just the bad things. I'm sorry I didn't see that. Yoongi showed me how much good has come from this." Baekhyun peeks over at Jin, who looks back, locking eyes with the man. "Like you." Jin offers the Pilot a smile as the rest of the crew approach, checking their blasters before nodding.
"Alright, as I said, no splitting up. We're together now," the Captain says. Jimin glances around at his crew, shaking his head. "Don't act like children. Please."
Seulgi snickers. "No promises."
"I'll keep her in check," Hoseok says.
"Thank you, Hobi," Jimin says, grabbing his rifle and holding it as it comes to life. Jimin's lips creep into a smirk. "Now... let's go kill some monsters."
~11:25~
Jungkook keeps a steady pace with the crew, trying not to go too fast as they enter the southern city through the back entrance. Apparently the creatures are inside, and the military here was hit the worst. They need backup, and the crew was that backup. Whether or not they'll be able to fight off a dozen Goliaths is a different story.
As soon as they enter, they hear the sirens. A loud alarm is blaring, signaling civilians to stay inside. Jungkook shivers. He never thought an alarm could sound so cold.
Yoongi stands besides him, tapping his fingers together. Jungkook sucks in a breath before shifting to the older man. "Are your enhancements kicked in?" Jungkook whispers as the crew scans the city, seeing it eerily empty.
"Yeah, you?" As if on cue, Jungkook's cheeks glow a soft blue, not fully kicked in yet. He groans as the pain hits his muscles, him nearly dropping his EMP blaster. "Are you okay?" Yoongi asks. Jungkook nods, gasping for air. Jungkook doesn't know why this time hurt more than the last, but at the same time, he hasn't been resting well. That heavily impacts it.
"Let's just find these creatures so I can sleep," Jungkook says in a joking tone, causing Yoongi to softly smile, but Jungkook can see the worry inside Yoongi's irises.
"I knew there was a reason I liked you." They fall into a short silence as they listen, then, Jimin holds them up. He leads the crew, standing only a few feet in front of them. They go still. A beat later, they feel the ground rumble.
"Weapons ready," Jimin says. They oblige, holding their blasters at eye-level, scanning the terrain. When nothing comes, Jimin relaxes his blaster. The rumbling is still there, but it's farther away. "Keep moving, stay alert. Jungkook, let me know if you hear anything I can't."
"Yes sir," Jungkook replies, listening as closely as possible. His body throbs as his enhancements turn from blue to red, his body shaking.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Yoongi asks.
"I haven't exactly been sleeping well. One night's rest and I will be," Jungkook replies. Yoongi looks unconvinced. "It's not exactly easy having super soldier juices in your veins," Jungkook whispers, which finally gets Yoongi to back off.
"Just let me know if you need anything."
Jungkook nods his thanks as they turn a corner. This city is similar to theirs. It's not as large, but it has a lot of metal skyscrapers and offices; clearly there aren't as many residencies. Jungkook spots a few hotels and two apartment complexes, but no houses or even any roads leading to the outskirts. It's definitely much smaller than what he's used to.
Before Jungkook can dive deeper into his observations, he hears a scream. He goes still. "Did anyone else hear that?"
"Hear what?" Jimin asks, peeping back at Jungkook. Jungkook listens closely, then, he hears the scream again. It's dead ahead.
"Go straight! I hear a woman screaming!"
Jimin obeys, leading the crew down the concrete road. The scream is getting louder. Jungkook only hopes they're not too late. A loud roar is heard, which causes Yoongi to flinch. "I heard that one," Jimin says in a low tone, holding his blaster tightly.
Jungkook tries his hardest not to outrun his crew, keeping his pace with Yoongi as they navigate the surface. They keep their eyes peeled for survivors and or Goliaths. They turn the next corner and jump back at the sight. A woman is running towards the crew, a Goliath behind her. It's distracted by the three military men on the ground, aiming their blasters at the beast. It looks slowed down, so they hit it already, but they're not as fast as the creature. It pounces forward and easily swipes the three aside. Their bodies go flying until they all either roll on the ground or crash into an idle car.
"Shit! Shoot it!" Jimin shouts, kneeling down in front of them and opening fire.
The crew takes controlled bursts, not going fully automatic. Jungkook shoots once, hitting it in the arm. The Goliath growls and jumps forward, closing the distance. Yoongi shoots him right in the face, and the Goliath stalls. Jungkook takes the opportunity to shoot him in the chest, as does Seulgi. After another few shoots, he goes down, landing with a huff only a few feet away from Jimin.
Y/N rushes over to him, kneeling down. "Are you okay?" Y/N asks, and Jimin nods, resting his hand on her cheek.
"That one took longer than normal. But at least that's one down. Where are the others?" Seulgi asks.
Jungkook shakes his head and turns to Yoongi, who's holding his hip. "You're still in recovery, you should take it easy."
"It's been two weeks, I'll live," Yoongi says in a huff.
"Gunshots don't heal over night," Jungkook says, but Yoongi only sighs.
"I'll be okay, I promise. Ganymede needs us."
Hoseok peers over at the pair, then, he comes over. "Are you alright Yoons?" Hobi asks.
"I have to keep moving."
"Why?"
"Like I said, Ganymede needs us."
Hoseok softly smiles, his lips forming a heart shape. "You sound like a hero." Yoongi looks astonished by that answer, but Jungkook's only left confused. Must be a conversation they had when he wasn't around. Oh well. Jungkook steps forward, preparing to listen for more Goliaths when a loud roar goes off behind them.
Jungkook snaps around, as does the crew, and another Goliath jumps forward, revealing itself from behind the corner. "Oh fuck!" Baekhyun shouts, shooting it. Jungkook does the same, kneeling for better aim. Jimin comes up behind him and shoots over his head as the Goliath charges, getting closer by the second. It takes multiple hits, Jungkook rapidly pressing the trigger. Then, his EMP doesn't fire. It needs to recharge.
"Shit, I'm dry!" Jungkook says, but luckily, Seulgi fires a round right into his face, finally making him fall into the nearest wall. He smashes into it, the building shaking. It's a five story tall building. Jungkook gulps. "We should move away from it right now," Jungkook says, and the crew agrees, picking up their pace and rushing away. They get back onto the main road, turning around in time to see the building collapse on top of the creature. Jungkook lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Two down.
"Kai? Kai come in," Jimin says, pressing on his comm.
"I read you, what's your status?"
"We've downed two. The military are scarce and civilians even scarcer. What do we do about our two bodies?"
"Leave them for now, I'm sending a recovery team to help clean them up. They should be there any minute. Focus on finding the other Goliaths."
"How many are left?" Jimin asks, keeping his comm close to his mouth.
"Let me pull up my motion detector." There's about ten seconds of silence. "Jimin... get out of there."
"What? Sir, what about the people?"
"Run, run as fast as you can!"
"What why-"
Three Goliaths jump off the top of a building, landing only a hundred feet away. Jungkook takes a step back in shock, then, another growl is heard. He turns around and sees two more waiting for them, again, a hundred feet away. "We're surrounded," Jungkook mutters.
"How many are there dammit!" Jimin yells into his comm, his body trembling as he fires the words past his lips. There's a few beats of eerie silence.
"One hundred."
Jimin goes pale. "I-In the city?"
"Yes."
"Fuck," Jimin replies in a whisper before turning off the comm. "Five face the front, four on the back, prepare to open fire. Y/N and I will take the far right one. Seulgi and Hoseok take the middle, Jin take the end."
They nod, so Jungkook decides to turn around nervously as the creatures charge forward, getting closer. "Taehyung and I will take the right, Yoongi and Baekhyun take the left?" Jungkook says. The two nod, their hands quivering.
Jungkook holds up his blaster as they come closer. They're fifty feet away, so, he prepares to fire. "Y/N?" Jungkook hears Jimin say.
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
Jungkook sniffles, now starting to fear for his life. "I love you too," Y/N replies. Jungkook gazes at Tae, who has his blaster pointed at the Goliath Jungkook assigned him to.
"Thank you for showing me what love is," Jungkook whispers, and Taehyung peeks up at him in shock.
However, Jungkook opens fire, interrupting Taehyung's thoughts. He misses the first shot, then hits the second. He hits the third and fourth right in the face, then misses the fifth. He grunts to himself. Twenty feet away. They keep firing, and he's at shot eight now. He misses. Shot nine. Right in the face. Shot ten. The arm.
Jungkook's helpless now. He gulps as Taehyung runs out of shots as well. The one on the left falls, so Yoongi turns to the right one, who's limping but still coming at them with hunger in his eyes. It leaps, preparing to swipe at Taehyung. "Tae no!" Jungkook yells, instinctively jumping in front of the man.
Jungkook goes airborne.
He feels his air leave his body as pain shoots up his hip. The Goliath got him. He tossed Jungkook to the side like it was nothing. Life seems to go in slow motion as the dark sky taunts Jungkook. He's still in air, his world slowed as his senses start to leave his body. The few seconds he's in the air feels like hours, and soon enough, his body makes contact with something hard. Something really hard.
Then everything goes black.
