["The sky turned purple"]

Saki could scarcely remember her grandmother's face, but when the sky turned purple, the soft, frail voice rang clear in her head.

"Remember, child. Beauty can often be deceiving."

All around her, her classmates had stood up and were gathering at the window, each rambling and mostly marvelling the astonishing sight. Even her teacher, the ever-so-austere Yugo-sensei had dropped the lesson and joined the baffling crowd.

The heaven had exploded into electric violet, and what should've been dark clouds rippling across the vast expanse of the sky were lined with neon-purple edges, creating a spectacular display of nature's glory that bathed the classroom in an enchanting lilac glow. Yet, Saki couldn't help the sense of premonition that rose from her gut.

Her instinct were on spot; five minutes later, the speakers in the courtyard blared. It was an announcement for all citizens:

"The seismologists have reported to be predicting a typhoon that will hit the coast of Japan in seven hours. The government has declared an evacuation for all residence in the following areas. Evacuation orders will begin approximately four hours later. Please take caution..."

The reporter began listing the areas that had to leave and rambled on about how everyone should stay calm, but it all fell on deaf ears.

"I guess this literally means calm before the storm, huh," Ranko joked, coming up to her seat. "But this is going to be one hell of a stor- Hey? Saki?"

Saki's face had ashen. Unlike others, her gaze was locked straight ahead and she hadn't moved an inch from her seat. Her best friend frowned, before lightly smacking her on the back, jerking her back to reality. "I was just joking. You can't really be afraid of a storm, are you?"

The brunette abruptly stood up, slightly startling her friend. In a low voice, she murmured: "I need to go," and she bolted out of the classroom. No one aside from Ranko bother to watch her leave with bewilderment scrawled over her features.

"W-Wait! You didn't take your bag!"

Saki dashed down the school hallway, weaving in and out of the milling crowd of students and teachers alike that streamed out from classrooms to gawk at the phenomenal sight. She almost crashed into a few, only barely managing to duck in time. Their irked hollers were mere buzzing compared to the roaring of blood in her ears. Every thump of her heart sent dread and adrenaline pumping through her veins and all her mind could think was run, run, run or everyone else will die. The façade she strived to forge instantly shattered, pulverised by the tumultuous waves that threatened to bring havoc to the country she loved.

Above her chest, concealed behind the layer of school uniform, an amethyst gem pulsated in an otherworldly glow, the flickering glow like a heart beat.

She needed to fix this, before it was too late.

Aye, okay, this was pretty half-assed. But i guess this is what i get when i decided to take up this challenge even though i know i can't cope haha :")

Depending on the situation, i may rewrite this in the future, but for now let's just leave it as the trash it is.

Ps: this was inspired by Typhoon Hagibis that hit Japan last October. The sky had turned deep purple several hours before the typhoon occured.

:)
