last chapter :"H-help," he whispered. There was no way anyone would hear him though. He refused to open his eyes and rolled onto his side, a sharp stabbing pain running through his body. "Oh my god someone help me!"
A couple weeks later
"Ya know Roman, Virgil's actually pretty cool," Nick joked as he tossed a football to Ethan who was sitting lazily under a nearby tree. "Yeah, we've been hanging out with him and walking to classes with him," Ryan added as he took the script Roman was reading out of his hands. "He's chill I guess." Roman gave Ryan and joking glare and took his script back. "Virgil is anything but chill," he joked without thinking. The bell rang and Ethan groaned deeply. "Do I really have to go to math," he complained as he pushed himself up from the ground and threw the ball back to Nick. "We could stop by the bathroom first." Ethan nodded at Ryan and grabbed his practically empty backpack from the seat next to Roman. "Why aren't you on the team man, everyone else is." Roman closed the script and placed it in his backpack. "Because it's at the same time as the musical. And to be honest I suck at sports. I'm made for the stage though." Ethan gave him a confused nod and turned back to Nick. "Are you staying for the varsity try-outs Nick." Nick nodded and placed the ball under his arm. "Of course I am. And I'm gonna make it. Coach already told me." Ryan cleared his throat and shoved himself into Nick. "Ya know if we don't go to the bathroom now we're gonna be late." All three of them said their goodbyes and Roman walked down to earth science all alone.

"Hey Virgil," Nick taunted as he blocked the door to the bathroom and the final bell rang. "Ethan you forged the note right."
"I'm not an idiot Ryan." Ethan handed a yellow tardy slip to Ryan who smiled contently. "G-Guys, I'm gonna be late to class...Let me g-go."
"Not until you say please like a good boy Virgil," Ryan taunted before shoving the note into his backpack. "P-Please Ryan."
"Give me your math homework." Virgil took his backpack off his back and frantically rummaged through his stacks of papers. "H-Here. T-That's the one..Now let me go." Ryan snatched the paper from Virgil's shaking hand and looked it over. "I'm not in math two you nerd." Ryan walked over to the stall Virgil came out of and Virgil tried to reach him, but Nick grabbed his left shoulder and shoved him into the wall as hard as he could. Virgil's vision went in and out as he heard the sound of a toilet flushing and people laughing. "What about the English homework?"
"I-I ne-need my homework," Virgil muttered as his eyesight started fading more and more. "Hey!" Nick continued to hold Virgil up and pushed him harder. "Oh my god stop! Stop it please," Virgil screamed. "If I were you I'd back the fuck up." Virgil grabbed Nick's wrist and tried to pull it away. "And what are you gonna do Elliot? Hm, tell a teacher?"
"I'll tell your brother." Ryan scoffed and grabbed Virgil's backpack. "My brother doesn't even know you exist."
"Those are some brave words coming from a kid who only knows my name..now should I tell him?" Virgil opened his eyes wider and the room swayed back and forth, making him feel queasy and like he was going to vomit. He squeezed his eyes shut again and felt a tear slip down his cheek. "Please let me go Nick."
"Alright." Elliot pulled out his phone and Ryan laughed. "You don't have his number. You're an emo, nerd kid. He's a popular jock." Elliot shrugged and pressed on one of the contacts in his phone. "Last chance..Put the kid down."
"Keep him up there Nick. There's no way my brother cares about you Elliot." Elliot pressed on the contact and pressed the dial button. Putting the phone on speaker, Elliot death glared Nick as the phone rang. "Hey, E. Is everything okay? Is someone messing with you because I will fight them." Ryan's jaw dropped at the sound of his brother's voice. "Hey T. Nah, I'm fine but uh, you have a little brother, Ryan right?"
"Yeah. Is someone messing with him?" Elliot laughed and Ryan looked between him and the phone. "No, the opposite actually. Your brother just flushed some kids homework down the toilet and has his friend pinning the kid against the wall."
"Am I on speaker?" Elliot looked at Nick who was slowly lowering a crying Virgil to the ground. "Yup."
"Ryan, you're in so much trouble. I'm telling Dad. And you're also gonna tell me who this kid is and I am going to watch over him just like I watch over Elliot."
"I don't need you looking out for-"
"Freshman year E."
"Fair enough." Virgil was finally on the ground safely, but he was sobbing even more now. "Is that the kid," Tanner asked. "Yup. I'm gonna see if he needs to go to the nurses office or not. I'll meet you there either way okay?" Ryan put down Virgil's backpack, his mouth still hanging open. "Sounds good. Ryan, meet me outside the math classroom now." Ryan nodded and shoved his way past Elliot, his head hung in shame as Ethan and Nick watched him leave. Elliot hung up the phone and turned to the two boys. Even though they were both larger than he was, Elliot walked towards them and crossed his arms over his chest. "Why are you still here? Scram you idiots." Both of them nodded their heads, not looking back once. "Hey kid. You're okay." Virgil whimpered and scooted closer to the wall as a shooting pain ran up his arm. "Are you okay?" Virgil opened his eyes and his world once again lurched to the side. "Kid I think you're going into shock," Elliot whispered tenderly, trying his best to not disturb the freshman. "I think..I th-think I'm going to throw up," Virgil mumbled as his face started to pale. "Hey, I need you to stay awake okay? We're gonna go to the nurses office and have you checked out but I need you to stay awake. Can you open your eyes?" Virgil opened his eyes halfway and there were three Elliot's.
"Good. Good keep 'em open kid," Elliot encouraged as he grabbed under Virgil's arm. He started to pull up when Virgil screamed. Actually screamed. Elliot quickly yet gently placed him back on the floor and rubbed Virgil's sweaty, matted bangs out of his eyes. "I'm so sorry Virgil...I'm gonna call one more person and they're gonna come help okay? Just stay awake."
A couple minutes later, a taller, stronger looking guy entered the bathroom and looked down at the two boys on the floor. "Be careful with his left shoulder," Virgil faintly heard Elliot instructing as his ears started to ring. "Geez how many layers did you have to put him in E?"
"He's going into shock Tanner, he needs to stay warm." Then, Virgil passed out, his head falling flat onto his chest, and Tanner catching his frail torso a second before it hit the ground.

"Kiddo, who did this to you?"
"Ryan," Virgil muttered as he looked around himself and noticed that Roman was sitting asleep in a chair close by. "Ryan has been bullying me since fifth grade." Suddenly Roman shot up out of the seat and walked over to Virgil's side. "Ryan did this to you?!"
"A-And Nick..And Ethan." Roman's face flushed and his neck burned with anger. "They won't get away with this Virgil. I promise."

"Hey Ryan," Roman greeted with fake kindness and enthusiasm. "Oh, hey Roman. Didn't think you'd still sit with us after-" without letting Ryan finish his sentence, Roman socked him good and hard right across my face. "Touch my little brother one more time," he practically growled as Ryan cradled his cheek in his hand. "And it'll be a lot worse than a punch to the face."
"Hey Romano," Elliot called out from across campus with a gesture inviting him over to their group. "Come hang with us." Roman gave one last glare to Ryan and victoriously walked over to Elliot's small group. "Okay introductions," Elliot greeted as he playfully draped his arm around Roman's shoulders. "That's Virgil, I think you know him from somewhere. He's kinda weird. Got his ass handed to him yesterday and now he has to wear a sling." Virgil smirked and rolled his eyes. "Thanks Ell." Elliot smiled back and pointed out the rest of the people in the group. "That's Remy, you probably know him. Never sleeps, dates your brother..cool. That is the talented Joan, they're an amazing writer and easily recognizable because they never take off that orange beanie. That's Talyn, they're short, threatening and always has crazy colors in their hair. And that is Tanner, best quarterback and worst mathematician to ever live. And that's my boyfriend Mitchel." Roman smiled dashingly at the group and wrapped his own arm around Elliot. This is already so much better than the other group he thought as he smiled at his brother who was singing 'Freeze your brain' loudly and off key with Remy. Joan and Talyn were sarcastically debating which was more ridiculous, the beanie or the hair dye while Tanner and Mitchel were both examining a book for some last minute studying. These were the people he belonged with.
