Chapter 3
Ariche Point of View
"You will die." I shrugged looking at the chief of the small village we are inspecting.
"Are you cursing us?" The old man exasperated but I couldn't understand his expression though. He has thick eyebrows, mustache and beard as long and wide as my hair. He is old but his hair is in pristine condition spanning from the ears and covered most of his forehead.
I could hardly see any skin on him.
What in the name of Ariche Gil does he do to have such hair?
"No she isn't, Mr. Stevens."
"Of course I am." Lucas and Sky said in unison with me. Let's make it clear,
"Ari." Lucas whisper yelled at me and tried to pull me by shoulder but I'm very much determined to tell this old man that he is definitely going to die and how he is going to die.
It is my duty to inform them about everything when I take up a case.
"Mr. Stevens, If you don't cut a little of your whiskers or beard, you will definitely die of suffocation. How do you even breathe through it?" I wonder how big his nostril holes are.
I haven't seen them till now; his nose is deeply buried in his mustache.
"You –" He started but I inched close to him and held his beard to in one hand while my other hand started to dig the hair to see if there is any skin beneath them.
Don't tell me –
Don't tell me he –
"Mr. Stevens, did you get a perm for your mustache? Wow, it looks so bushy. I almost thought you have no nose if I haven't parted the hair and see the small almost invisible opening there." Amazing.
I have to take the address to the salon he goes to. I have long hair but it is too thin and straight. If only I get hold of the talented person who helped him grow such jungle of hair and permed it to perfection, I can even grow unwanted hair.
"You – this –" The old man tried to tell me something but I can clearly see he is trying to deviate me from appreciating his facial hair. "I don't allow anyone into this village due to previous attempts by others to exploit our resources for their selfish reasons. It is the first time I ever permitted someone to come and give advices in providing help with raining income to the villagers all the while protecting our resources well. You, girl, are a bad news."
Throughout the speech he gave, the only good thing he said is that I am a bad news.
Others would have felt offended by it but my thoughts and views on life are different. Why should everyone be only good news?
What is so good about good?
What is so bad about bad?
"What is good and bad? Good is nothing but not being bad and bad is just being what is not good." I quoted with a tone that is filled with sagely wisdom.
Being bad is not necessarily bad and being good is not necessarily good. In my twenty three years of life experience, there is something I was enlightened in early years itself –
Sometimes, good person is worse than a bad person while a bad one is better than a good one.
"Wow, Senior Gil, I did not understand what you said just now but I really like what you said. I will note down every wise word you say and live my life like you do. I'm your fan already." While Lucas looked at Sky like he said something sinful, the chief just shook his head and closed his eyes for a while.
Well, there is no value for people of great insight like me in this world.
One day, I will shake and crack this world with my great thoughts and insights.
"I hardly talk this long so let's get back to work." I tapped Lucas shoulder and gave a huge grin to Sky in appreciation.
He is my fan indeed!
I can literally see the universe of stars in his eyes whenever he looked at me. Sometimes I fear about getting too popular. What if I get too wise for others and affect the people of mediocre living?
"Right. We should help them and leave soon. Remember, you have a 'go green' campaign tomorrow morning in the park?" Lucas words brought a new wave of excitement inside me.
Out of all the categories of social service, 'Go green' is the second best I love to do. I don't know why but the concept of plants getting old, dry and wither makes me feel very hopeful.
People usually think that a growing tree is inspirational but did they ever hear the wise whispers of a withering plant or a flower?
According to me, that is the real lesson one should take. Growing is only temporary but withering is destiny.
"I read the information about your village and visited a few houses here to have a better understanding of your place to come up with good ideas. I think the village has good hand in weaving and handicrafts made of bamboo and dried leaves." Lucas said and I nodded my head agreeing to what he said.
I observed the same too. When it comes to being kind and helping others without expecting anything in return, I am very attentive.
I just love being kind. It makes me feel like another person for a while.
"Now that the usage of plastic is getting frowned upon, you people can make some replacements for plastic using natural resources you have. Selling them will surely bring good income." Lucas, at first waited but when I encouraged his to talk further he said what I was supposed to.
I don't like talking so long. It makes me feel too accomplished out of no reason.
But then, suddenly I got two ideas which are impossible for Lucas to come up with so I forced myself to talk again.
After all, Lucas is not me, no matter how smart he is.
"How about I take few apprentices from your village and teach them a little about psychological counseling?" I wiggled my eyebrows suggestively at Mr. Stevens and immediately was answered with a loud and clear NO.
"If you agree to my idea, then I will give my second idea as compliment." I carefully laid the trap.
Now it depends on the hairy suffocating fish to bite the bait and get into the trap.
"Second idea?" This time it was Sky who asked what was supposed to be asked by the Chief.
"Yes, as a complimentary gift, I will find your nose from your mustache and beard. I will help you die a little later than you planned." Being kind is one thing but being heartily and logically kind like me is different.
Lucas coughed thoroughly.
Sky blinked vigorously.
And Chief Stevens mumbled ceaselessly.
Am I being too kind here? I think all the three did not like my idea of finding Chief's buried nose.
"We – will take our leave now, Mr. Stevens. Please call me when you discuss our suggestions with your people and arrive at a decision." Lucas said hurriedly and pulled me to our car without giving me a moment to say my goodbyes.
Sky followed suit to the car and took his usual spot in the back while I sat in the passenger seat beside Lucas. I saw his nostrils going wide once in a while and his lips shivered too.
Sitting In the driver seat and putting on the seatbelt, Lucas sighed for a few times before he turned to me undoubtedly trying his hard not to smile.
"Too much kindness will land you into trouble, brother. Too much negativity with make you into a trouble." I scoffed hearing him say in my style of tone.
Is he trying to be counselor with me?
I'm Ariche Gil.
"Being kind is not a hobby or a habit, it is the blood that runs in my veins and looking at the world in negatives is veins that hold my kindness." I heard claps from the backseat and a whistle followed it.
How am I going to stop Sky from fanboying me too much?
He seems to be too much taken by me and my ideology.
Lucas just shook his head in return and just snickered. He gazed at me with his usual sisterly eyes and smiled again.
"We have been working together from four years but I still don't know why you love to be pessimistic. But when I observe it carefully, you are not completely pessimistic too."
"Because a psychologist should not only be good and positive even in the hell fire. While others coach people with sweet lies, I chose to coach them with bitter negative truths."
"I will not follow others path, I will pave mine myself. I will not read textbooks for theories, I will write new ones and get into textbooks." I said proudly.
My dream is to have a whole chapter on me and my ideologies in the textbooks.
"Why don't you try be and talk positive and see how it feels like?"
"Boring" I waved my hand and probed him to start the car. Lucas turned to me and held me by my shoulder with a huge grin on his face.
"Alright. Here is a challenge to you. If you can maintain an optimistic view for a whole day tomorrow, I will get Stevens permission to take apprentice like you asked. Sounds good?"
Having few apprentices to promote and follow my works will help me achieve my dream of getting a whole chapter on me in textbooks.
A whole day of being positive? Since it's a green campaign in park, it seems alright for me.
What will a day of positivity with dome anyway?
"Deal." I said with a challenging grin.
Let's see who will gain anything with my positivity.
