Aegeus Point of View

Woah!

I was just beginning to act authoritative and take everything happening under my charge; never thought the series of surprises I got dampens my spirit altogether.

"I missed you so much, Son." My kind Mama spoke in her usual gentle voice.

Seeing her, seeing my family after years almost moved me to tears. If only, If only I was meeting them alone without a wife on toe.

Well, life!

"I missed you too, Mama. You lost your beauty weight." I scanned her all over and noticed that she became much thinner and paler.

She looked healthy no doubt but she still did not look right to my eyes. It must be because I'm seeing her after three years but the sight of my lovely mother made me feel like I'm finally home.

"Let's not get on to it. For the past three years, your absence has made her cry oceans for you." Nereus answered, settling beside me.

While I was having a reunion with the family, Lenore took Cerberus to our room for rest for which I'm grateful.

"You cried for me again? Mama, this isn't new for me still you cry every time. You should stop spending your worry over unnecessary issues. I'm safe and sound like I promised you so you should trust your son."

"You look much better now. Your wife brought good change in you."

Good change?

How?

By making me go bald and crazy?

Right! About Wife! I still need to get an explanation from them.

"Wait, how did you know what's going on in my life?" Curiosity got the best out of me.

One thing I know about my little family is they don't spy on each other whatsoever. Then I wonder how they got to know about Cerberus and our relation.

"That's a story only your wife can tell you. Ask her." Mama laughed out very gleefully that clearly stated she is quite satisfied with this relationship.

I can see as clear as crystal that everyone of them, except for Iona, admires Cerberus a lot.

But my doubt is, what is there to admire in her?

"And you accept her as your daughter in law just like that?" I asked amazed at their acceptance skills.

"Why now? She is an amazing girl." Papa, Mama and Nereus spoke in one tone.

Really now?

"You will not say the same after getting to know her completely." I muttered out to which I got an approval nod from Iona.

Now that is why I really like my sister in law; although I hated how she treated Cerberus, with my wife's skills, I was assured.

If Iona has a strong attitude and foul mouth, then Cerberus is just her match in foiling her with kind words.

"She is different and that is why we love her." Yet again all the three said in unison.

They are hypnotized for sure.

"Fine I get it you all love her so much. At least tell me why you guys are so happy about it. I mean I got married without even notifying you."

"Do you want to hear the truth?" Asked my Mama and I nodded.

"Do you want to us to tell you why?" Asked Papa and I nodded.

"Do you really want to know?" Asked Nereus and I nodded.

Of course, I wanted to know. Isn't it why I asked?

Mama inhaled and produced her infamous smile before revealing her reasons. "Because we thought you would never get married."

Excuse me?

"We didn't think any girl with her right mind would like to marry you." Papa continued.

"You are just – unapproachable." Nereus completed.

Wow! Some family I have!

They are trolling their own son and brother with assumptions.

"Why? I'm a great person. Calm, composed, righteous, hardworking, friendly and kind." What a day I had to see.

I'm giving a confirmation on my personality to my own family of blood and flesh.

All the four nodded and to my surprise, even Iona nodded in agreement with them. Iona, my dear sister in law, although a spoilt brat and snobby, she was always on my side.

She always supported me

"You are everything you told you are but it takes more than that to have a stable relationship." Nereus said in a saint like manner.

Look who is preaching! The one who bickers with his wife the whole day!

"Oh really? And that is?"

"Time and sentiments." Iona gave me the answer which received three nods. "I don't agree with them about your current wife but I do agree with their doubts on your marital life."

You can't be serious!

"You, dear son, are married and consummated to your work. You are literally obsessed to it that you don't even like to do things beyond your work boundaries." Mama, I'm not that bad! Am I?

"You are friendly indeed, but you are quite unapproachable with you being serious and commanding all the time." I got that from you Papa Blame yourself!

"I'm baffled to say that you mostly looked at woman with a friendly gaze but never assessed them with desire. I mean, even the most decent kind of man will take a slip once." Brother, I'm not a savage.

If I like someone, I would rather get straight to the point and approach directly than spend my time passing heated gazes to them.

"Most of all, your sentiments are connected to your work and work only. I was married into your family for nearly six years and I did not see you do anything out of work permits. Fudge brother in law, I did not even see you spend time on exploring yourself." Iona, you betrayer.

Now that I listen to them, after hearing them what they think of me, even I'm convinced of having Cerberus in my life is the best thing for me!

That's idiotic!

They are turning me against myself!

I'm not that bad, am I?

Loving my work is good, isn't it not?

"Says the person who fights with her husband every minute."

"That's love!" All the four shouted in unison.

"Alright fine! But that doesn't mean Ariche is the right girl for me." I reasoned out.

I hate to admit it but some of the things they said about me are true. Only some!

"I agree." Finally, Iona is back!

"She is not the right person but a perfect person for you." Papa said sharing a secretive smile with Mama. "And you will know why slowly."

Taking a breather, I glanced at newly formed fanclub of Cerberus and took a moment to take in everything.

"So, you went to her and asked her to adopt you all as my family?" Papa nodded.

"And she did so without a hitch?" He nodded again.

"Just like that?" I saw him nod again.

"Why?" I wonder what made her take them as my family.

For one, Ariche Gil is sure a nutcase but she isn't a complete fool.

She is smart in unexpected things. Her brains start to work where normal people's ends.

She is sometime overbearing but she isn't overbearing on everyone. There is a selective criterion for that too.

"Because they are your family, Mr. Beggar." And Ariche Cerberus Gil is back. And yet again she shocked me with her answer.

"Eh?"

"I didn't need to adopt them separately because they are already my adopted husband's family." My eyes widened at her confession.

I shot up from my seat like a rocket on fire while she came to where I stood with a smile.

There is her wise smile again!

She knows!

She knows?

How?

"How?"

"Wait, you knew he was theIoannou son from way before?" Iona asked the question I wanted to ask.

Thanks sister!

"Not from the beginning."

"Then when?" I was too anxious to know the answer.

How the hell did she find out about me? Was my acting lacking? Was I too transparent?

"I knew from our very first meet that you are not just an ordinary Mr. Beggar. You looked too dirty and beggary than others." What does that mean?

Beggars look dirty. Period!

How the hell did I look too beggary? What even that mean?

"So, you did my background check?" I'm almost stupefied about where this is going.

"Of course not! I'm a great psychologist and we don't pry into others matters secretly unless they are bad people. Although you were overly beggary, I really wanted to help you out of your situation. But later on, I slowly got the hint that you are not what you look like which made me like you more."

"So, you adopted me because I am mysterious?"

"One, I didn't like to see you having a bad life while all the bad people out there are having golden lives. Two, I liked how mysterious and different you are. It was only after our adopted marriage did, I realized that you are blood, sweat and tears of Ioannou."

Wow! Her madness totally camouflaged her intelligence. She actually maintained her reasons quite well.

"And we are on sugarmoon to Athens because my family is here. Now I understand. This is a surprise for me." I nodded to myself as all the pieces fell in their place slowly.

"We are also here to punish the drug trafficking leader, remember?" She patted my shoulder as she gave it a squeeze.

Okay! So, is she a mad girl or a smart one?

She is annoying or not?

"We should complete this mission of yours quickly so we can have our adopted night." And another shock settled in me while she had the last smile for the day.

Damn the hell!
