A Gift of Words

The party was almost over , the cakes were cut the gifts were distributed amidst the kids laughter and after  dinner the kids played with each other for awhile before slowly heading back to their room driven to sleep by their excitement .

The little ones were the first to go and only few kids who were bit older remained in the Hall playing with her brother and her cousins while the adults were quietly talking with each other

Lavanya was seated beside gauri and kavya who were chatting with each other . She knew soon they will have to leave but she was glad that she invited all of her family tonight .

She saw the moment her Ragini aunt approached her and she froze a bit. They haven't talked much after she found out that she  was his sister but she didn't blame her aunt for his mistakes .

" Can I talk with you a moment Lavanya beta ?" her aunt voice spoke up .

" Sure aunty. " she said and followed her aunt .

" I always wanted a daughter , and after Yash was born the doctor told me we can't have another child , we have been thinking of adopting for a long time but we waited till Yash was old enough to understand .

Today it made me realize , I didn't want to wait any longer but I am not sure how to approach them . I dont want to raise their hopes but how will I choose my daughter without talking with them ,I was hoping you will be able to help me with it .

With you by my side. I think the girls will speak with me freely . Probably won't realize I was thinking of adopting on of them . " her aunt spoke up and Lavanya was thankful her aunt considered the feelings of the kids .

After Meera heartbreak today ,she realized the truth in her aunt words . She still remember the five minute walk it took to meet her dad .

" Of course I will help you , you need not worry . We can visit as often as you like till you make up your mind , I visit often so the kids won't think too much if you were with me " she answered back which earned a smile from her aunt .

Just then she spotted her friend Gauri rushing away and the stricken face of Adarsh uncle made her aware something was wrong . As Kavya walked towards her. She was worried enough when she noticed the frown in her cousin face .

" What happened ?" Lavanya asked her.

" It was horrible , Ishaan father was a police office , so he wanted to talk with Gauri dad. She took him to introduce . And she overheard him saying to our dads that he wanted a son but couldn't adopt because they didn't know how Gauri would react ,it was so very awful Lavanya , Go after her please ." Kavya spoke up and Lavanya feet was already heading in the direction her friend left .

Lavanya knew it would be a hard blow to her best friend . Her parents divorced because her father wanted a son which Gauri mom couldn't give due to the complication that occurred when she was pregnant with Gauri .

She always felt like she didn't belong and awhile she could understand Adarsh uncle words must not have meant to hurt her, she knew her friend would take offense to it .

She couldn't find her for few minutes then she heard her Best friend voice .

" Leave me alone Arnav , I want to be alone . I am tired of always being unwanted " her friend voice made her walk towards the direction of the sound and she found someone already had found her best friend .

She saw her best friend breaking down and was glad Arnav reached her first . She hoped he would be able to comfort her as she saw her cousin gathering her in his arms as while cried for a long time . Lavanya slowly backed away from them  only to come face to face with Adarsh uncle .

" She will be fine " Lavanya spoke up as she saw the sadness in Adarsh uncle face.

" I didn't mean it that way" he spoke up and she knew the man who marched to the station few days ago wouldn't want to hurt her friend.

" I know , She isn't like me . She will be fine " Lavanya spoke up in a bid to comfort him but it had the opposite effect when she saw her words wounded him .

" Of course , I know she doesn't consider me as her father " Adarsh uncle spoke up and Lavanya realized she misinterpreted his words.

" If she doesn't care about you. She wouldn't be hurt by your words , she only let very few people in to her life and she did let you in . So obviously she cares what I meant was she is sensible unlike me and won't misinterpret your word's if you talked with her " Lavanya spoke up and left as she knew Gauri needed to talk with Adarsh uncle once she calmed down .

As she made her way back. The hall was almost empty except her parents and Arjun uncle family .

" Where is Arnav .. " Lekha aunty asked and only Kavya who was aware of her brother interest covered for him somehow .

" How is she ?" Her mom asked her a little later when they were seated together .

" I don't know , I didn't get a chance to speak with her " she spoke up and soon saw Adarsh uncle coming back with Gauri and her cousin Arnav was trailing behind them which was noticed by his parents but it seem like he didn't care as his eyes remained fixed on Gauri .

Soon everyone bid goodbye and Gauri barely managed to look at her that Lavanya was worried about her best friend . She hoped Gauri mom who couldn't come today will be able to comfort her daughter better .

As her family drove back home , Lavanya planned to pay visit early to Gauri house tomorrow just to check upon her , while she knew her best friend was not emotional like her , Lavanya knew she was hurt a lot in her life .

The whole family retired early that day and Lavanya woke up the next day with the intention of paying her best friend visit , she was almost out of the door when her father voice called out .

" Good Morning Princess , going out soon " he asked as he walked towards her and she smiled at him and kissed his cheek and explained to him that she was heading to check on Gauri .

" Do you want me to drop you? " her father asked but she didn't want to make him strain on his day off , so she decided to take a bus instead .

She was nervous when she entered Gauri house. Her mom face looked little pale but she smiled at her as if nothing was wrong . But when she entered Gauri room she found her in tears .

" Gauri what happened ..?" She asked as she hugged her friend who just burst into more tears at the sight of her .

She didn't look this devastated last might and Lavanya panicked to see her calm friend crying like that . She barely spoke a word for a long time except the one sentence where she said it was her fault .

" It is not your fault " Lavanya reassured her even without knowing the reason behind Gauri words, she trusted her friend and wondered why she was blaming herself.

" They are getting divorced .He left already "Gauri spoke up and Lavanya froze at those words .

" What ?" was the only word she spoke up after the revelation .

" I told him not to say anything to mom , but he told her and they fought and mom asked him to get out . It his house and she kicked him out and he left " Gauri spoke up and cried all over again .

Lavanya knew one divorce had taken a toll on Gauri and this one would hurt her further .

" Have you talked with your mom or Adarsh uncle maybe you can convince them not to be rash " Lavanya spoke up but she know kids has little say when it comes to adult decisions .

" It all my fault don't you see , I am never enough for anyone " her friends voice broke up and Lavanya couldn't help her as words failed her at the moment

She spent the whole day at her house and only left when Gauri seemed bit calm in the evening when she was about to leave Gauri mom voice halted her .

" Is she fine ?" Gauri mom asked and all she could manage was a nod . Her best friend was hurt by her parents action and she wanted to understand her mother who was divorced once for a son and now maybe she was hurt by Adarsh uncle wish for a son .

But Gauri was losing someone she cared about as well .

" Can't you reconsider your decision " Lavanya spoke and regretted her words as she know it wasn't her place . But the look of confusion made her wonder if things were as dire as Gauri predicted .

" You are not going to get divorced " Lavanya asked hoping the answer would be an yes .

" It better this way. I won't have her hurt by anyone " her mother spoke up making Lavanya aware Gauri mom thought it was what Gauri would want , she choose her daughter over her husband thinking he hurt her

" But it you who are hurting her now , she doesnt want you to get divorced . She maybe hurt by Adarsh uncle words but it didn't mean she wants him out of her life . If you are doing it for yourself I can only comfort her but if you think you are doing it for her I think you should ask her first what she wants . " with those words Lavanya left the house .

As Lavanya headed back home. She hoped things would work out between Gauri parents .

She reached home to find her family watching a movie together , she took her place beside Yuv who shared his popcorn with her .

" You won't understand. You missed half of the movie " her brother spoke up as he handed over his bowl of popcorn .

It was true but she cherished those family moments. So she remained watching the movie till the end even when she didn't understand half of it .

" Can we cook today. You mom needs to work " her father asked her when the movie ended .

" Can't we order pizza dad please " her brother voice broke out , Lavanya knew with the word please at the end .His request will not be denied .

During dinner her mom asked about Gauri and Lavanya told her everything in short and her mom promised to speak with Gauri mom after the trial tomorrow .

Lavanya was about to head back to her room when her father voice called out .

" Going to sleep Princess " her father spoke up .

" Not yet , I need to work on my science project ." She answered him back .

" I have wanted to give you this letter last night but couldn't get around to it " her father spoke up as he handed a envelope towards her .

" Who has taken time to write me a letter " she asked as she took the envelope but her father face gave her an pause.

" It from me " he answered back and she finally realized the letter importance .

" Didn't we decide no more words were needed " she told him little hesitantly .

" Yes , when I stopped being afraid of losing you , I realized i have a lot to say princess . Read it when you want and only if you want . " her father spoke as kissed her cheeks and walked back to his room leaving her with a glimpse of his thoughts through the gift of his words .
