Chapter 19: Homecoming Dance
"Why do we have to go to a dumb dance?" Sarah asked.
"You don't have to go." Bobby said. "We said if you'd like to go you can."
"I'm going." Mitchell said.
"Spencewr?" Cara asked.
"Yep!" The younger boy exclaimed.
Tan looked up from his tea. "That was announced yesterday! You already have a date?"
Mitchell blushed a little. "Yeah."
"Aw! You two are adorbs together, hunny!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"Oh, shut up." Mitchell laughed.
"So, did you ask him, or did he ask you?" Antoni asked.
"We both asked each other." Mitchell said.
"How does that work?" Karamo asked.
Mitchell smiled. "After we found out we were having a homecoming dance, we both went up to each other and said 'will you go with me' and that was it!"
"Well, you did kiss." Jonathan said.
"JONATHAN!" Mitchell exclaimed, hiding his face in his sweatshirt covered hands.
Everyone laughed, including Mitchell who's face was still red.
"We still need to get you both some outfits!" Tan exclaimed.
"And I need to do your hair and makeup!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"And I'll do something." Bobby said. "I don't know how this stuff works."
"Antoni?" Sarah whispered to the man next to her.
"Yeah?"
"I...I don't have a date."
"Sarah, that's fine, you could just go with a friend or something." Antoni said. "You'll be fine, I promise."
Sarah nodded, turning back to what she had been doing.
-------------
"Alright, what were you thinking?" Tan asked, as he, Sarah, Mitchell, and Karamo stood in the store.
"I have no idea." Mitchell said.
"Me either." Sarah said.
"I'll help Mitch, you help Sarah." Karamo said.
Tan nodded. "Sounds like a plan."
"What do you think Spencer would like?" Mitchell asked.
"First off, let's try that question again." Karamo said. "What would you like?"
"I don't know, I'm just worried about what he'll think."
"Mitch, if he's a good guy, he would want you to wear what you'd like."
Mitchell looked at some dress pants. "I just don't want to wear something that he'll think is stupid."
"Look, as much as you gush about him, I know that he's not gonna hate you for what you wear." Karamo said.
"Well, I guess so." Mitchell said. "Can I get something floral?"
"I love floral! Also yellow would look great on you!"
"With skinny jeans!" Mitchell said.
Karamk grabbed the younger boy's hand. "I love clothes shopping!"
Tan and Sarah hung up the dresses in her changing room.
"I'll wait here." Tan said. "You'll look great!"
"We'll see." Sarah replied, shutting the door.
She stepped out in an orange dress. "You've got to be kidding."
Tan made a face. "Yeah no."
"This looks like puke!"
"Okay, just try on another one."
The next was a short red dress with a slit on the side.
"Yeah, not seductive at all." Sarah said sarcastically.
Tan shrugged. "I thought it would look cute."
"I look like I should be in a club or something." Sarah said.
"I gave you eight dresses, and you dont like two." Tan said. "We can go through the whole store for all I care."
Sarah nodded. "There's a cute blue one in here."
"Ooh, try that one on! I need to see it on you!"
She smiled. "Hold on a second, I gotta get out of this red disaster."
Tan looked up from his phone, Sarah standing in front of him.
"So, how does it look?"
"Sarah, that looks beautiful on you, love!" Tan exclaimed.
"You think?" Sarah said.
"I know so! Look at yourself!"
The girl smiled as she looked in the mirror. "I love it! How much is it?"
"Doesn't matter, now let's get you some shoes."
--------------
"OW!" Sarah yelped.
"I'm sorry! But you keep moving!" Jonathan exclaimed, pulling his curling iron away from Sarah's hair.
"I know, I know, I'm just nervous." Sarah said.
"Don't be! You'll be fine, and if you hate it, then Karamo, Bobby and I can pick you up!"
"All three?"
"We always carpool."
Sarah smiled, as Jonathan continued with her hair.
Mitchell swooped his bangs over one of his eyes. "Karamo, is the mascara too gay?"
"There's no such thing as too gay, my friend." Karamo replied. "You look great with it on."
Mitchell straightened his yellow, floral blouse, and smoothed down his jeans. "How do I look?"
"Amazing."
"I can't wait for Spence to see me!"
"ARE YOU GUYS READY?" Bobby called.
Mitchell and Sarah both ran into the kitchen, pausing for a second to look at each other.
"Nice shoes!" Sarah said to her brother.
"Nice eyeliner!" Mitchell said. "I'm ready!"
The rest of the Fab 5 gave the two oldest kids hugs, then they were on their way to homecoming.
"You guys are gonna do great." Bobby said. "Call if you need."
"Okay." Sarah said.
"You have your phones?"
"Yep!" Mitchell said.
"Okay, text me when you need to be picked up."
"Okay." Both said, getting out of the car. "Bye!"
"Bye! Have fun!"
The two walked into the school gymnasium, seeing kids hanging out and dancing.
"You gonna be okay?" Mitchell asked.
Sarah nodded. "Have fun!"
"I will, don't worry." Mitchell said, walking to where the snacks were.
He was tapped on the shoulder a few seconds later, whirling around.
"You look so cute, Mitch." Spencer said.
"Spence!" Mitchell exclaimed, hugging his friend. "You look so good!"
Spencer smiled, looking down at his black button-down shirt and jeans. "Thanks. And are you wearing makeup?"
Mitchell blushed. "Yeah, is it that obvious?"
"No! It looks amazing!" Spencer said hurriedly. "Oh gosh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean...I mean, I...it looks really great, I..."
Mitchell laughed. "Spencer, you're fine!" He gave the other boy a quick kiss.
Spencer and Mitchell laced their fingers together, smiling as they broke away from each other. "You ready to dance your ass off?"
"Yep." Spencer replied, grinning.
Sarah stood around with her friends, dancing with them. She would glance over at her brother to check on him, and he seemed just fine.
"Hey, Sarah." A girl whispered.
"What's up, Rachel?"
"Jordan Chastain keeps looking at you!"
Sarah's eyes widened. The most popular boy in the school was looking at her.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"I'm sure!" The girl said.
"Hey! He's coming over!" Another girl hissed. "Hey, Jordan!"
The boy had sleek blonde hair, and was wearing a fitted black suit. "Hey. Sorry ladies, but I need to talk to one of you in particular."
The girls giggled, except Sarah who was checking if there was a rip in her dress.
"Hey, Salma." Jordan whispered in her ear.
"It's Sarah." She said.
"Whoops, sorry, Sarah." He said, trying to laugh it off. "Do you wanna dance?"
"Sure." Sarah said, shrugging.
They went in the middle of the gym, and began dancing together.
"Jordan, you keep looking at me weird, are your contacts loose?" Sarah asked.
"No, I'm just looking at the prettiest thing in the school." Jordan said.
Sarah blushed a little. "Um, thanks?"
"Would you wanna be my girl?"
"Like, girlfriend?"
"Yeah."
"Um...I don't know..." Sarah said.
"C'mon," Jordan persisted. "You, me, we'd be the most popular couple in the school."
"Well," Sarah began. "Maybe."
Their conversation was interrupted by two people yelling.
Sarah and Jordan whirled around.
"Sh-t!" Jordan exclaimed. "What's going on over there?"
Sarah gasped. "I gotta go!"
"Sarah!"
"I know! I...I'll see you tomarrow!" She called, running to where the yelling was coming from.
Spencer had his arm around Mitchell, and was talking to a teacher, while Mitchell hid his face in his friend's shoulder.
"What the hell is going on!?" Sarah exclaimed.
"This is none of your concern, Miss McClaire." The teacher said.
"Actually, it is my concern cause that's my brother and his friend!" Sarah exclaimed. "Now tell me what the hell is going on before I call my parents!"
"If you wanna know, these two are showing clear PDA to everyone here." The teacher said.
"Sam and Chantel are making out and no one stopped them!" Spencer exclaimed.
"They're not anymore!"
"I had my arms around Mitch and you come over here and start yelling at us!" Spencer nearly shouted, tightening his grip on Mitchell's waist.
Sarah noticed that Mitchell was crying, clinging onto Spencer's shirt. "LEAVE THEM ALONE!" She screamed at the teacher.
"You're not allowed to yell at the teachers!" He shot back.
"I don't care!" Sarah exclaimed, taking a few steps forward. "You're being homophobic, and to be honest, you're being a jerk! No, you're being a motherf--king d--k! I'm calling my family right now to come pick us up and we're getting out of here!" Sarah exclaimed.
"All three of you will be suspended." The teacher said.
"Fine then!"
The three kids were walked to the office, and sat outside, waiting for the Fab 5 to pick them up.
"Mitch? Hey, baby, you there?" Spencer said, tilting Mitchell's head up so they could look at each other. "There's that pretty face."
Mitchell's face were tear stained, his nose running a little. "I...I'm sorry, Spence."
"No, it's okay, Mitch." Sarah said. "We're getting everything figured out."
"N...no...I ruined your night."
"No you didn't." Spencer said. "This was a boring thing anyway."
Sarah would've let out a teasing 'ew' or 'get a room', but this wasn't the time.
The principal, Jonathan, Karamo, and Antoni walked in.
"There they are." The principal said.
"Ma chère fille." Antoni said in French, rushing to Sarah.
Karamo went to Spencer and Mitchell. "Boys, what happened?"
Sarah jumped up. "THE FREAKING PRINCIPAL YELLED AT MY BROTHER BECAUSE HE WAS DANCING WITH SPENCER!"
"Miss. McClaire!" The principal shouted.
"Don't yell at my girl!" Antoni shouted back. "Keep going, angel."
Sarah's chest heaved. "He said they were breaking the PDA rule cause Spence had his arm around Mitchell, and I yelled at him."
"Actually, Miss. McClarie, you swore at a teacher." The principal said.
"What did she say?" Jonathan asked.
"She said hell a few times, plus motherf--king, and d-ck."
Jonathan turned to Sarah. "What about sh-t?"
"I didn't have a good time to use it." She replied.
"Okay, guys, let's get outta here." Karamo said.
Spencer walked up to the principal. "F--k you."
They walked out of the school, getting in the car.
"I'm so sorry about that." Karamo said.
"It's okay." Spencer said.
"No it's not!" Jonathan exclaimed. "People shouldn't yell at you for having your arms around each other."
"Yeah, Spence." Mitchell said. "I should be able to say that I love you ever single day at school without getting weird looks."
Sarah let out an 'aw', as the two kissed.
"Anyway, let's go out for ice cream, I want ice cream." Antoni said.
"Okay! Let's go!" Sarah said. "Guys, you're definitely homecoming kings."
The two smiled. "Thanks."
"Did you have fun while you were there?" Karamo asked.
"It was wonderful for a few minutes!" Mitchell said. "I want strawberry ice cream."
"Ooh same!" Spencer said.
"Same here!" Sarah exclaimed.
They all got out of the car, walking up to the ice cream shop.
"Six homecoming strawberry ice creams!" Jonathan exclaimed.
"I wondered why they were all dressed up!" The employee said. "Hold on a sec."
They ate their ice creams, the kids trying their best to not get it on their outfits.
"NO!" Sarah screamed, as ice cream dripped on her dress.
"We have stain treatment." Antoni said. "Eat your ice cream."
"Thanks, guys!" Spencer said. "This was the best part of my night except for Mitch."
Mitchell smiled. "Aw, well you can always get ice cream with us."
"Awesome."
