Chapter 13: Sarah's Surprise
"Okay, class! You know the homework, now shoo!" Mr. Thomas said, as everyone got up, the school day officially over. "Maggie, Sarah, come here real quick."
Sarah walked to the desk. "Yes, sir?"
"Hi, Sarah!" Her teacher said. "This is Maggie, my daughter."
Maggie Thomas, makes sense. Sarah thought.
Maggie smiled at Sarah, her blonde hair in a long braid down her back. "Hi."
"So, I have a meeting, and I really don't want Maggie to be alone at home again, so I talked to your family, and she's gonna go home with you, Sarah." Mr. Thomas said.
Both girls nodded. "Okay."
Mr. Thomas smiled. "K, I love you, Maggie."
"Love you too, Dad." Maggie said, turning to Sarah. "So, um, I'm excited to go to your house!"
Sarah nodded. "Yeah, me too."
"I like your backpack, do you like Stranger Things?" Maggie asked.
"Yeah, I love it." Sarah said.
"Me too! Who's your favorite character?"
"Um, Max." Sarah said.
"I like Steve." Maggie said. "Also Dustin!"
"Oh my gosh, I love Dustin!" Sarah exclaimed. "Wait, team Steve, or team Jonathan?"
"Steve all the way!"
"Really? I think J Byers is better."
"You're gonna regret those words." Maggie said, cracking her knuckles.
Sarah laughed, continuing to talk to the other girl.
"Hey, is someone gonna pick us up?" Maggie asked, looking around.
"Huh?"
"Girl, it's been an hour and a half since school ended." Maggie said.
"Holy sh..." Sarah began, before Maggie glared at her.
"No. Cussing."
Sarah nodded. "Shoot, sorry, I'll call someone."
"Actually, come with me." Maggie said, going to the back of the school.
"What's that?" Sarah asked.
"My skateboard."
"It's cool!" Sarah said, as Maggie got on it. "I know how to, I just never got one."
"I have an extra, it's over there." Maggie said, pointing to a black skateboard.
"Oh cool! Thanks!" Sarah said, getting on. "Let's go to my place."
Maggie grinned, kicking off, skating into the street.
"Mags!" Sarah exclaimed, as Maggie grabbed the bumper of a truck.
"Sarah!" Maggie exclaimed, pulling her friend to where she was.
"Is this legal!?"
"Marty McFly did it!"
"Marty McFly also time traveled!" Sarah exclaimed.
Maggie shrugged. "Which way to your place?"
"Down this street, right, right, sharp left, another right, you're there." Sarah replied.
"Got it." Maggie said, ducking down so the truck driver didn't see them.
"Let go!" Sarah shouted, turning onto the sidewalk.
Maggie did the same, as they made a right, grabbing onto a gray Lexus.
--------------------
"Almost there!" Sarah said, as they turned again. "There!"
"Finally!" Maggie laughed, as they skated into the driveway of the loft.
Sarah unlocked the door, walking in. "WHO THE HECK FORGOT ME!?"
"Oh sh-t!" Antoni said. "Sarah, I'm so sorry, I'm busy with my book, and I totally forgot!"
Sarah smiled, hugging Antoni. "I'm just teasing, it's okay."
"Who's this?"
"This is Maggie."
"Right! Maggie Thomas!" Antoni said. "Hi, I'm Antoni."
"Hi!" Maggie exclaimed. "Oh my gosh, I love you so much!"
Sarah looked at Maggie. "Huh?"
"Queer Eye." Maggie said. "My dad and I watch it all the time."
"Oh." Sarah said. "Ant, I keep forgetting you're famous."
Antoni rolled his eyes. "Mitch is at Spencer's house for school project stuff, Cara's with Bobby, and Jonny and Karamo are doing work stuff too."
"So, Tan's here?" Sarah asked.
"Yep."
"Cool, Maggie, wanna hang in my room?"
"Yeah!" Maggie said, following Sarah to her room.
"Ooh, can I braid your hair, please?" Maggie asked.
"Um, sure." Sarah said, as she pulled up a Buzzfeed quiz up on her phone. "Okay, you wanna do a Stranger Things quiz."
"Sure! Go ahead!" Maggie said, as she began braiding Sarah's dark hair.
"Ow!" Sarah yelped, as the other girl accidentally yanked her hair.
"Sorry! So sorry!" Maggie said. "I'll try to be more gentle!"
"M'kay." Sarah said.
"Done!"
"Jeez, already?"
"M'hm."
Sarah got up, looking at her hair in the mirror. "Wow! I love it! Thanks so much!"
Maggie smiled. "You're welcome!"
"FOOD!" Antoni shouted.
"You're gonna love Ant's food! It's so freaking good!"
"I can't wait!" Maggie said, as Sarah dragged her into the kitchen.
"So you're telling me that we forgot our kid?!" Tan exclaimed, as Antoni put the food on the table.
"Yeah, that's what I'm saying."
"And no one said 'oh hey, who's gonna pick Sarah up'? We have a group text for a reason!"
"Tanny, it's fine!" Sarah said. "I skated home."
"You did what!?"
"Skateboarded."
"On the road? With cars? Oh my gosh, you could've gotten hurt!" Tan said.
"But I didn't." Sarah sighed, as she sat down at the table.
Maggie smiled. "This looks so good!"
Antoni smiled back. "Thanks!"
They sat down, Maggie closing her eyes.
"Are you alright there, love?" Tan asked.
"Mhm."
"Your eyes were closed, are you feeling okay?" Antoni asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just sayin' a quick prayer." Maggie said, taking a mouthful of food. "Antoni! This is so good!"
"She likes it!" Antoni exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air.
"Antoni, love, calm down a little bit." Tan said. "You're almost as crazy as Jonathan."
"Bite your tongue!" Antoni exclaimed.
Someone knocked on the door as Tan and Sarah were doing the dishes.
"ANTONI! GET THE DOOR!" Sarah called.
"I got it!" Maggie said, running to the door. "Dad!"
Mr. Thomas grinned, hugging his daughter. "Sorry the meeting took so...woah."
Tan and Antoni waved. "Hi!"
"Hey."
Maggie ran over to Antoni and Tan, giving them hugs, then turned to Sarah. "Sarah, can we be best friends?"
"Best friends?"
"Yeah!"
Sarah grinned. "Yeah! Sounds fun!"
"Yay!" Maggie exclaimed, hugging her friend. "I'll see you on Monday!"
"Bye!" Sarah called, as the two walked out. "I HAVE A BEST FRIEND!!"
