Chapter 17

Tessas pov
I wake up in a hospital room, but I don't open my eyes. I hear people talking, and I think it's about me... I try to open my eyes, but the bright lights hurt, so I close them again. The position I'm in is uncomfortable, and I try to move. My eyes water, and I cringe at the pain. Why am I here? What happened? Why do I hurt so much? I'm so confused.... I just need someone to answer my questions! I can hear a doctor, or nurse -I don't know- talking to someone outside. Not fully, but enough to understand a bit of what they're saying. "Yes..... asleep.... Pain medication... early recovery....." I don't want them to know that I'm awake, but a small cough slips out, and it hurts real bad. I cough again, and it hurts just as bad. I open my eyes again, and I'm able to tolerate the lights now. "Look who's awake!" Whispers a nurse, and she waves someone in. "There's someone here to see you now, Tessa..." She says quietly, and I nod. I look around, and see that there's a needle attached to my arm. When they come in, I expect to see Rachel, but I see Matt instead. He smiles, and walks over, sitting in a chair next to my hospital bed. "How're you feeling?" He asks. "Everything hurts..." I mumble, sitting up. I wince, but I'm fine. "What happened?" I ask, and he looks around nervously. "You guys got into an accident, and the car flipped over.... But you guys are all pretty tough..." He laughs lightly, tilting his head back. "Are they alright?" I ask, worrying about Rachel and Colleen. "They- uh, they- yeah." He stutters, hesitating. "Rachel's foot is broken, though... Colleen's arm and leg, too..." He sighs. "Well, bye..." He says, and leaves the room. He looks like he's fighting back tears. The nurse walks back over to me, and asks me if I feel well enough to go see everyone. I nod, and she helps me take out the needle from my arm. "What happened to me?" I ask. "You had passed out... Lost a lot of blood when the windows shattered." She replies, nonchalantly. She helps me up, and we start to walk over to Rachel's room.

"Looks like there's no one in there!" The nurse tells me, and we walk to Colleen's room, which is conveniently right down the hall. The nurse knocks on the door, and it opens. Colleen is sitting in the hospital bed with her leg resting at an angle, and her left arm in a splint. She's eating food, and I expect no less from her. Rachel is sitting in a wheelchair across from her, also eating food. "Look who's here to see you!" The nurse calls, and I smile at them. "Ohmygosh" Rachel exclaims, and I run over to her, embracing her in a hug. "I'm so happy to see you! I could never forgive myself if you got hurt..." I loose myself and slowly begin to cry, and Rachel hugs me tighter. "It's ok baby, I've got you...."
