chapter ten
Jen's POV
When we arrived at the hospital, they sent me to the waiting area. After a couple hours or so, they came out. "She's awake now. You can see her." The nurse said. I followed them in her room. She was sitting up. She caught my eye and grinned. I hugged her. "Her fever has gone down a little bit." The doctor said. "Why did she pass out?" I asked. "She had nothing in her stomach." The doctor said. "That can't be. She threw up." I said. "Well that's what I'm guessing." The doctor said. I looked at Jessica. "He wouldn't let me eat or drink." She said. "He tried to starve you?" I asked. Jessica nodded. "Wait. Didn't you eat breakfast that morning?" I asked. "Only a little bit." Jessica admitted. "Were you feeling okay that morning?" I asked. Jessica looked down and shook her head. "I woke up with a sharp pain in my side." She said. The doctor heard her. "Where's the pain?" He asked. Jessica pointed to her right side. The doctor came over and pressed on that area. Jessica whimpered. "It's got to appendicitis." The doctor said. He turned to the nurse. "Get her to surgery, stat." He said. The nurse nodded and they rushed Jessica out of the room. I used my phone and called Pat. He showed up at the hospital.

Pat's POV
I was in the hospital waiting to see my daughter. Jen was next to me. I moved my hand to hers. She grabbed it like it was a lifeline. Ross was slamming his fist into his palm. Finally he stopped and buried his face in his hands. I could barely hear him but I knew he was crying. "What's wrong, buddy?" I asked. Ross looked up at me and I saw the tear stains. "She was always there for me. When I was five, some kid stole my lunch but Jess chased him until he gave it back. And also the day the guy... hurt our family, Jess stood up for me in school after some kids pushed me off the swing." He said. I noticed a few more tears fall. "After our dad died and mom disappeared, I was getting bullied but this time, she wasn't there." He continued. I could tell that he wanted to say more but couldn't. I let go of Jen's hand and held out my arms. Ross came into them like a little kid. "We're your family now and we'll never leave you. And neither is your sister." Jen said. As if on cue, the doctor came out. "She's going to make it. We did the surgery just in time. We'll keep her here for observation but she'll be fine." He said. He looked at Ross. "After the surgery, she woke up and was talking to us about you. You're quite lucky to has such an amazing sister." He said.
Ross' POV
After I heard the doctor say that I'm lucky to have Jess, we decided to see her. We went into her room and she grinned when she saw me. It was that smile on her face that told me.
I'm lucky to have her too.
