Jessica's POV

When Pat and I got home, it was raining. I set my stuff in my room. Soon, Jen came in. "I'm going to the store for some stuff and Pat's coming with me. Will you be okay by yourself?" She said. I hesitated. "Can I come? I-i don't want to witness a break in." I said. Suddenly something hit me. Why did I say that? I blinked back tears. Jen looked confused. "Cloud will protect you." She said. I gave up. "Fine. Just be careful." I said. "We will." Jen said. I sat down on my bed. I heard their car pull out of the driveway. Suddenly BAM! The memory hit me like a punch in the gut.

I was playing with my dollhouse in the playroom. Mommy and daddy were with me. Suddenly we heard someone break a window. Mommy was scared. Soon a guy wearing a mask came in. Daddy handed me to mommy and ran after the man. BAM! A gunshot sounded. I began screaming. The guy came into the playroom and stole mommy. I never heard from her again. Daddy let himself die to protect me and mommy. Now I'll never know why he did that. All I remember was him saying "protect them" before leaving the room.

I started to panic. What if Pat and Jen's house gets robbed? What if the same guy is still out there? I mean I was six. They gave me their cell phone number. Maybe I should call them? Just then, the power went out, meaning I couldn't call them. I heard a noise and I jumped. It was coming from downstairs. I walked downstairs, holding one of my school books. "Who's in here?" I asked. No answer. I grabbed a flashlight and turned it on. Cloud looked up at me and meowed. I sighed. I was going to turn the flashlight off when Cloud started chasing the light. Thunder sounded and I screamed. I ran upstairs and hid under the blankets. Then I realized that the downstairs was unguarded. I grabbed my blanket and sat down on the couch. Cloud got up on the couch and started purring. After about two hours, the storm was still going on and Pat and Jen weren't back yet. I soon fell asleep, hoping that Pat and Jen return safely.
