Chapter 174 - Finding Dory
I woke up Saturday morning to my phone dinging from right under my ear. I yawned and forced my eyes to open. I grabbed my phone and pulled it out turning it on.
Josh:
Hey, you okay?
I stared at the message confused for a second, then replied.
Abigail:
Yeah, why do you ask?
Josh:
I just, I saw what your dad tweeted last night, and he said you were freaked out. I just thought I should ask.
Josh:
Anyways...
Josh:
I was wondering if you'd like to go see Finding Dory with me???
Abigail:
I'll have to ask, but I'd love to!
I quickly set my phone down and walked into the living room, my parents were sitting down with coffee, reading. Vanessa's head was in the crook of Lins neck and she was reading his book, keeping her mug pressed to her bottom lip, every couple of seconds tipping it slightly into her mouth.
"Hi sweetheart." I heard my dad say, looking at me.
"Morning Darling." Vanessa yawned, "come join us." She patted the cushion next to her.
"Actually, I just have a question." I said, clasping my hands in front of me, and rocking back and forth on my heels.
"Okay." Lin said, closing the book, his index finger marking his place.
"My friend Josh was wondering if I could go see Finding Dory with him today."
"Is he a friend from school?" My mom asked, interested.
"No, we met at EduHam." I said, biting my lip.
"Oh! He was the kid you sat with!" Lin said, understanding.
"Mmhm." I nodded, happily.
"So, um, is this a date? Because, if it's a date, I'd like to have a chance to talk with him. Like, have a conversation." Lin said leaning forward a little.
"Oh! Oh no!" I laughed a little, "um, Josh is just a friend."
"Oh." Lin shrugged, "I'd still like to meet him, I mean, just, making sure your friends are nice, so, um, I'll drive you to the theater. What time?" He asked.
"I don't know, I'll ask Josh." I smiled.
"Okay." My dad smiled, and pulled his book back out, wrapping an arm around my sleepy mother. I went back into my room and grabbed my phone.
Abigail:
My parents said yes. What time?
Josh:
Awesome! Um, how's 11:30? That's the soonest showing.
Abigail:
Okay. I'll meet you at the theater at 11:15?
Josh:
Sounds good, see you then!
Abigail:
Okay! See you then.
"Can we be there by 11:15?" I yelled to my dad.
"No problem!" He shouted back.
I pulled on a pair of jean shorts, and Star Wars t-shirt and converse, then straightened my hair. I looked myself over in the mirror, then decided it was good enough for sitting in the dark with a friend for a couple hours. I grabbed my phone and put it in my pocket, then appeared in the living room where my dad was putting his computer in his backpack.
"I'll drop you off on the way to the show, you don't have to work the matinee, but I want you to work the evening show." He explained, and I nodded.
"Okay." I smiled, and followed him down to the car. He drove me to the movie theater, he pulled into the parking lot, and I saw Josh sitting on a bench in front of the building,
"So, can you call him over?" Lin asked as he parked.
"It's not like he's gonna kill me, but sure." I rolled my eyes a little.
"I want to ask if he can drive you to the Rodgers after the movie." He explained.
"Oh." I sighed, "one second." I quickly hopped out of the car, and ran over to Josh.
"Hi!" He smiled, seeing me come over.
"Hi, uh, my dad wants to talk to you."
"Oh!" He seemed surprised, "okay." He said, nervously, and I took his hand and walked over to the rental car my father was using.
"Dad?" I smiled, as we got to the car, "this is my friend Josh." I introduced Josh.
"Hi." Lin extended his hand out of the window to shake, "I'm Abigail's dad, I sort of have a favor to ask." He admitted. "Do you have your license?" He asked.
"Yeah." He smiled, "I drove here."
"Awesome," Lin smiled, "so, it's Saturday, and I have to do a matinee show, and Vanessa is going out with some college friends, she has to work the evening show, I was just wondering if you could drive her to the Rodgers."
"Of course!" Josh smiled.
"Thank you so much." My dad smiled again, "I have to go, but have fun."
"We will." I gave him a smile.
"See you later Peanut." He said, and he leaned out of the window to give me a hug, which I returned, "enjoy your movie."
"Bye Dad!" I gave a little wave, and he drove away.
"Well Pip-squeak," Josh said, after my dad left, "you buy food, I'll buy tickets?" He offered.
"First, sure, secondly, Pip-Squeak?" I asked, laughing a little, as we walked back to the building.
"When you met me you said I looked like Oak, and I am retaliating by saying you look like Pippa."
"Alrighty." I giggled.
"Okay, I'll get tickets and we can meet inside?" He suggested.
"Okay, what do you want to drink?" I asked.
"Diet Coke."
"Awesome."
I went inside the building and got popcorn and sodas for the two of us, then saw my friend walk in holding two tickets.
"Um we're in, auditorium, like, 5." He said, checking the tickets.
"Fantastic." I smiled, and followed him into the theater.

We saw a Moana preview and I got excited, I mean, seeing my dads name on the screen. About halfway through the movie, I needed to get a refill on my drink. I walked into the lobby, and there was just one guy working there. He was about my age, maybe a little older, I gave him a little smile and walked over.
"Hi." I smiled a little.
"Hi. Can I help you with something?" He asked, coming over to the counter, he was Hispanic, had dark scruffy hair, and was a couple inches taller than me.
"Yeah, can I get a refill on this?" I asked, and handed him the cup.
"Of course, can you take your top off?" He asked, and I stopped, confused for a second, then realized he meant, of the cup.
"Oh." I laughed a little realizing, "sure, sorry, I was, I was a little confused." I took the cap off and handed hit to him.
"Yeah, it's like, it's policy to say that, and I don't think they realize that it sounds sorta sexual."
"Yeah." I laughed a little as he refilled it.
"So sorry, I swear I didn't mean that like, disrespectfully." He reassured me, putting the cap on, "what are you seeing?" He asked.
"Oh! Um, Finding Dory with my friend Josh."
"Ah, so this is a date." He jokingly wiggled his eyebrows, which made me laugh.
"Oh, no, he's just a friend." I shrugged.
"Oh, well in that case my name's Kevin." He said, laughing.
"Abi." I replied, shaking his hand.
"Well Abi, enjoy the rest of your movie." He gave me a little smile, I waved a bit then returned to my movie.
The rest of the day went well, Josh was fun to hang out with, I brought him backstage and he kept me company during the show. Lin seemed to really like him, and so did the cast, especially Oak. It was fun, and I was kinda regretful we haven't been hanging out more since EduHam.

Hi.
I wanna let you know that I am a generally chill person and you shouldn't be nervous to talk to me.
Seriously.
I sit alone in front of my APUSH class before school starts because I have no friends.
I'm not like, cool or anything, and I swear I'm not, like a jerk either.
Thanks for reading
(Feel free to comment more one shots)
