"Two hundred dollars for one textbook?!" Farlan exclaims.

I couldn't help but snicker at his reaction to the prices of the medical text books. I have to admit, I myself am shocked at the price but I then remember that I have over six hundred dollars from Mrs. Yeager. Thanks to her I'll have extra money for myself to spend freely on school supplies . . . or get new novels. I can weigh my priorities.

Farlan whistles with his eyebrows raised. "These books better be worth the money. Do you know how many video games I can buy for two hundred?"

He pauses for a reaction. I simply shrug, not caring for an answer, but I already know he's going to give me one.

"A lot," he says slowly to make sure I'd catch on.

I roll my eyes. Him and video games, they are inseparable

I read down my list, checking off the books as I go. You'd think they'd cut you some slack and only require one or two of these things, but no they expect you to have all this money.

Farlan and I take our textbooks to check out where a woman with glasses awaits us. Her chocolate colored hair is sloppily tied into a ponytail. She wore a lab coat which I find extremely odd.

"Did you guys find everything you need?" She asks in a cheerful tone.

We place the textbooks onto the counter as the woman began to scan them. She scans Farlan's textbooks first, since his was the least amount. She hums while doing so, making me feel slightly annoyed.

Farlan is the only one to respond. "Yeah, they are really expensive though. I'll just be renting these."

"Yes they are, but it's worth it in the end," she tells him.

I tap my fingers against the top of my stack of textbooks waiting impatiently for her to finish. The woman and Farlan seem to be having a conversation of their own which only distracts her from her work. How annoying.

The woman asks for his school ID while she sets his rented textbooks in a brown paper bag. Farlan hands her his school ID. When she glances at his photo she compliments him with a bright smile which only made Farlan chuckle.

Luckily for him we were able to take our ID pictures earlier this morning. While mine came out looking like shit, Farlan's ID photo came out practically flawless.

"Alright, Farlan," she says as she hands back his school ID, "make sure you return them in topnotch condition!"

Farlan nods. He takes hold of his paper back and thanks the woman behind the counter. "Thank you, ma'am."

"Awe, don't call me that! Just call me Hanji, ma'am sounds too formal."

Farlan waves goodbye. He informs me that he's heading back to the dorm room before his first class at noon. I wave him off while Hanji scans my textbooks.

"You're renting too?" She asks.

I shrug, not knowing if I should. They do come by cheaper if you rent them.

"Sure," I reply nonchalantly.

I take out my wallet, where I stored Mrs. Yeager's money, and count the hundred bills as Hanji scans each one. Since I'll be taking extra courses I am required to use more textbooks, not that I mind a whole lot.

"You're becoming a surgeon? That's a tough job," Hanji comments, noticing the content if the books.

I nod. She smiles, but not a simple smile. She smiles crazily, her head lowering which only makes it creepier.

"So, why become a surgeon?"

Damn, why is she being so nosey?

"I've always wanted to become a surgeon," I tell her.

"Interesting," her voice sings creepily.

Damn, she gives me goosebumps. Thank God she's only a cashier.

She asks for my ID and I hand it to her hesitantly. I hate my ID photo. I was too short for the camera so the angle was off. I can see her giggling behind those thick glasses of hers. If she wasn't a girl I'd probably punch her right about now.

"Would you like to pay now or at the end of the semester?" She asks me.

I hand her the hundred bills. She seems surprised, but it quickly fades as she takes the money. After pressing a few buttons on the cash register and inserting information into a computer, she packs my textbooks in two separate paper bags.

"Thank you for your payment, make sure you return them in topnotch condition!"

"Yeah, sure." I shoo her off and collect my bags. Heading towards the exit I can hear her chirp her last goodbye.

"See you soon, Levi!"

See you never, four eyes.

Despite having little to no sleep the night before I function as normally as the next guy.

I explore the school grounds while Farlan is experiencing his first class at Sina. If only I could capture his face the moment he was told that he would have to spend an extra hundred dollars for another textbook. His expression was amusing. It made me break into a laugh, something only he has been able to do.

Walking around campus for the first time, I am not the least dissatisfied with how clean it is. There is hardly any trash on the floor, besides the overflowing trash bins filled with unfinished junk food and sugary drinks. There are custodians that come by every hour to sweep the campus clean along with a club that has devoted themselves to campus cleaning.

Farlan's class lasts an hour and a half after noon, so he'll be back at the dorm around two. I, on the other hand, don't have my first class until tomorrow. I laid out my schedule to only have class Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This way I'll have my weekends free, clever I know.

Before heading back to the dorm rooms I decide to stop by the university's library. I've only heard of it, and what from I've heard the library is a dream. Books upon books of all genres are crammed into the shelves that envelope the building. Separate rooms for private reading. A lounge for those coffee (and tea) lovers in center. Computers for public use in one section and single tables for studying in another.

True paradise.

I can feel my stomach doing miniature back flips. The excitement of seeing this library with my own eyes swells deep inside me. I take larger steps as I approach the large set of stairs that lead up to the entrance. Unlike other buildings, the library was built on higher ground. The only hill on campus held the key to my heart: books. I speed up the steps, taking two at a time.

"Almost," I tell myself.

I probably look like I'm struggling to climbs these steps, and that's because I am. These steps are not as steep as the one's back home, but they are a challenge. Even more so because I'm reaching for two steps instead of one. Luckily for me there aren't very many steps, so I reach the top in one seconds.

Opening the glass doors I am greeted by the satisfying aroma of books. That smell when you first open a new book? That perfect smell? The library is filled with it. I breathe in deeply, letting out a soft breath of satisfaction.

The man at the front desk seems to notice because he softly whistles in my direction. I jerk my head in his direction, his ocean blue eyes are the first I see. I approach the desk and he flashes a grin.

"It's nice, huh?" He whispers.

I nod, breathing a soft "yeah."

He turns to the side, he blonde hair swaying with him. He sighs as well, his eyes full of color. "I'm glad I was able to volunteer here. Books are my life," he tells me as he stares off into the wondrous sight of books.

"You're a student here?" I ask in a low whisper. He looks no older than me, surprisingly.

"Yeah, this is my second year here," he says. The blond male turns to face me, explaining how he graduated high school a year before his peers. He tells me that he came from a small part of town which, to my surprise, is not too far from my own. "I'm Armin. Second year student and future ophthalmologist," he introduces himself with a confident smile.

I firmly nod my head, introducing myself as well, "Levi. First year student and future surgeon."

"Surgeon, eh?" He seems surprised. Why does everyone look so surprised when I tell them I want to become a surgeon?

"Yeah, life long dream," I tell him.

He nods and excuses himself as a student approaches the desk for checkout. He tells me to take a look around, which I gladly do.

Each shelf is labeled with what types of books were. I unconsciously roam through the tall shelves, my hand dragging along the book spines. I calmly watch my hand as it glides across the ragged edges of each book's spine. I can't help but crack a small smile, my lungs filling with the wonderful fresh-book air.

It wasn't until I received a text from Farlan that my trance is broken. A soft buzz from my jacket pocket ruins the moment to which I quietly groan. I read his message, slightly annoyed with being interrupted from the beautiful scene around me.

Farlan: Hey Levi. Who's Eren again?

Why is he asking? Never mind, I know why. I hardly speak if that brat around people, assuming that people would understand that I dislike him by the way he treated me back in high school.

Levi: Ex next-door neighbor. A real brat. Why?

Farlan: Well, he's in our room.

What the hell?

My cheeks burn with frustration. I want to ram my phone into the wall, or even worse, ram it into the brat's face. Why the hell is he here?

My phone buzzes again, another message from Farlan.

Farlan: Please come by so we can sort this out.

Sort what out?

I reply to his message with a simple okay and make my way to the exit with heavy steps.

Why him? Him of all people in this world, why is he here? And in my dorm room. I need answers before I break someone's face.

Armin waves goodbye to which I ignore unintentionally. I take large steps, my foot stomping against the pavement. It takes me a few minutes to walk across campus to the dorms, but I manage to make it before I really did punch someone's face.

I kick open the door to find Eren standing in the center with a few suitcases. He has an SU jacket and a stupid grin. That stupid, ugly, ignorant grin.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I yell angrily.

"Settling into my new dorm," he says casually.

God I want to punch him.

"If you haven't noticed, Farlan and I already have this room," I say, gesturing my arm to Farlan who sits at the end of his bed. "Besides, you're too stupid to attend SU, how the hell did you get accepted?"

"Easy, I asked."

You have to be fucking kidding me.

I grit my teeth, my temper rising at an alarming rate. I'm about to burst at any moment, and if it wasn't for Farlan stepping in Eren would be on the floor.

"Hey, no need to get all worked up. There probably was a mistake during his registration," Farlan says calmly. He makes his way over to me, setting a hand on my shoulder. He gives it a slight squeeze and says, "I'm sure we can sort this out without breaking any limbs."

Eren takes a folded sheet of paper from his pocket. He unfolds it and hands it to us. "I'm sure this will settle things," he says in an innocent voice.

I yank the paper from his hands, hoping that I'd give him a paper cut. Sadly, I didn't.

I scan over the paper with wide eyes, not believing a thing it says.

"They're replacing Farlan with you? You have got to be kidding me, how the fuck did you do that Yeager?" I crumble the paper in my hand and toss it at him.

Farlan sighs, understanding the situation before I did. He remembers who Eren is now. He know of his rich father and his family ties.

"Levi, I'm sure we can fix it but let him get what he wants for now. I'll just transfer to the room down the hall, just like that paper says. It's not for forever," Farlan soothes me with reasoning.

I don't dare take my eyes away from Eren. I give him a deadly glare mixed with a 'you'll pay for this' look. A true combination of hatred.

Farlan pats my back as he goes for his things. Eren offers to help him and he gladly accepts. Damn Farlan and his optimistic attitude. I huff as I slam myself onto the bed, not wanting to assist Farlan because I didn't want to catch Eren's stupidity.

It wasn't until Farlan officially settled into his new room that I realized that things were going to get a whole lot more challenging.

Eren doesn't bother to organize his things, instead he just kicks them to the side and plops onto his bed. I groan, turning my attention to the pearl colored wall.

Eren makes a phone call to his mother, and I know this because his cell is blasting on speaker mode. Carla says hello along with my mother who both seem very happy with the situation. I try my best to ignore Eren's voice, but it just gets worse because he's now hovering over my bed side.

"Levi, don't be so glum. This is going to be great! Our moms will finally think we're friends!" Eren chirps.

I roll my eyes. "We aren't friends, and we never will be," I spit harshly.

Eren clenches his chest as if I had just said the most insulting thing in the world. I can't see this, but I know his face is filled with fake shock.

"Well get used to it, shorty. I'm not leaving, believe it or not." Eren walks back to his bed, whispering something only he can here. "It's not like I have a choice."

I grit my teeth at the name. If he ever calls me that again, I'm not holding back. He's going to end up with a broken face next time.

It's not the end of the world, as my mom used to say.

Yeah right.

Author's Note:

Hello there :D

Chapter three is a bit spicier than the last two chapters, huh? At least I think so. This chapter isn't as long as the others, but I am confident with it.

Hope you enjoyed this one :D!
