Another Human

Toriel was once again passing through the Ruins, looking with little hope for any humans that would’ve fallen down. She saw a small body lying face-down on the bed of golden flowers she had planted there and ran over. “Oh my! Dear child, are you alright?” They looked up with a scratched face and unfocused eyes. Toriel picked them up and quickly made her way back to her home near the end of the Ruins, where she gently put them down on her chair and used her fire to try and heal them. They opened their eyes, which were different than the others’. Their eyes were two different colors, the left one blue, the other red. “Are you okay now, child?” They weakly nodded and looked around.
“Where am I…?”
“You’re in my home, dear child, you’ve fallen into the Underground. But do not worry, small one, I will protect you and teach you about life here.” They smiled.
“Thank you, um…” “Toriel. And what is your name, little human?”
“...Adelia.”

Over the next few days, Adelia and Toriel explored the Ruins together, Toriel taught Adelia about the puzzles around, and Adelia found many hidden things that Toriel wouldn’t have alone. They were both satisfied with their new lives. One afternoon, when Adelia was reading one of Toriel’s books on the geography of the Underground, she heard her laugh from downstairs. She got curious and went down there, despite her fear of the dark. After a few minutes of following the path, she saw Toriel at a big door telling jokes and laughing at the jokes of whoever was on the other side. “... Toriel…?” The goat woman turned around and met Adelia’s blue and red eyes.
“Oh, hello Adelia! Would you like to meet my friend?” She smiled and nodded, going up to the door.
“Um… Hello.”
“oh, hey, kid.” Replied a voice from beyond the door. “hey, wanna hear a joke?”
“O-okay.”
“what’s a skeleton’s favorite instrument?”
“What?”
“a trom-BONE.” She snickered, then burst into laughter. Toriel started laughing too.
“How delightful, we have a new friend to share all our jokes with!”
"let’s hope they don’t get… BONE-ly without us!” Everyone laughed even more. ‘I think I’m gonna like it here!’

A week later, Adelia, Toriel, and Sans the skeleton, the one behind the door, were telling jokes and chatting through the door again. Something popped into the human child’s mind, but she had to wait until everyone had quieted down. “Hey Sans?”
“yeah kid?”
“Why don’t we open the door and chat face-to-face?”
“heh, you’ll have to ask your mom bout that.” She looked up at Toriel, who was holding a hesitant expression.
“Mama Tori? Why don’t we open the door?”
“W-we shouldn’t, my child, it’s very cold beyond the Ruins. And why would you want to be anywhere but here, anyway?”
“But it might be fun to explore outside! And I’ve got you to protect me and keep me warm, don’t I?” Toriel smiled down at the child and ruffled her long, brown hair.
“Maybe one day, little one.”

A few more weeks later, Toriel brought Adelia down for a special surprise. “I will unlock the door to the Ruins, so we can explore outside for a bit and still get back in. Normally this would be a one-way exit to the rest of the Underground, but in this case there can surely be an exception.” She opened up the door and a light, freezing cold breeze drifted through. Adelia shivered and was thankful for the old coat that Toriel had. She took her adoptive mom’s hand and started walking through the snow, soon meeting up with Sans at a gate thing, but the bars were too wide to stop anyone. Toriel ducked under it and they kept going, seeing some new monsters along the way. One came up to them, starting to tell puns and making Adelia and Toriel giggle. Another asked if it’s hat was nice, to which Adelia replied “Of course!” They continued exploring through this cold, white land filled with mostly kind monsters, and even meeting with a few of the Royal Guard, the adorable fluffy dog recruits assigned to this place. They soon met up with Sans’s very tall brother, Papyrus, who agreed to lead them to the peaceful town of Snowdin. They got some sweet cinnabuns and tasty popsicles, chatted with people, read some new books at the library, all in all it was a good day. However, most monsters seemed to be completely in awe in Toriel’s presence, whispering things like ‘queen’ and ‘she’s back’, from what Adelia could pick up. She decided to ignore them for now and keep exploring Snowdin, meeting a snowman who wanted to travel the Underground, but couldn’t move. She agreed to take a little piece of it and take it with her so it could see where Toriel would let her explore, and the Ruins along with that. Sans brought them to Grillby’s to get some food, and pranked Adelia when she said she wanted ketchup on her burger by unscrewing the lid when no one was looking and making all the ketchup spill out on and all around her burger. She just laughed and tried to wipe away the mess with some napkins.

After several hours of exploring and having fun, Adelia was super tired and kept yawning. “I think it’s time to go home, my child.” Toriel said, putting a hand on the tired child’s shoulder. “Thank you for showing us around, Sans and Papyrus! I hope we’ll meet again!”
“heh, no problem, tori.”
“THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAS BEEN HONORED TO SHOW THE FORMER QUEEN OF THE UNDERGROUND AND HER HUMAN CHILD AROUND OUR BEAUTIFUL LAND OF SNOWDIN!”
“Please, Papyrus, there’s no need to address me as the former queen. Just call me Toriel!”
"OKAY, MISS TORIEL! WE HOPE YOU COME AGAIN SOON! I’LL BUILD SOME NEW PUZZLES FOR THE HUMAN TO TRY OUT!” They smiled and went through the door leading into the Ruins. Adelia went to her room and fell asleep, tired out but happy from the long day outside of the Ruins.
