A Little Flower

Once again, Adelia had woken up before Toriel, but this time, she decided to just take a walk around the Ruins. She grabbed a chocolate bar from the fridge and went out past the black tree, unaware that malicious eyes were watching her from the branches. She took a left this time, instead of the right turn she usually took, going into a room with a few spider webs. That probably meant that the Spider Bakesale had moved into that room. They usually moved from room to room every week or so. She made sure she had some Gold, then bent down in front of the webs and put 7G in one. Some spiders crawled down and gave her a donut. She thanked them and kept going. She soon came into a room that branched out into a T shape, with a toy knife at one end and nothing on the other. Adelia sat down in front of it with her knees up to her chin and stared at it. The toy was on a small bed of vines with small thorns, looking threatening and yet interesting at the same time. She wondered who put it there, reaching for the handle. But the second she took it, the vines wrapped around her wrist, making her scream in surprise and pain from the thorns. A golden flower with a menacing face popped up across from her, behind the vines that were still on the ground. “You idiot. You’re too stupid to run away and tell your ‘Mama Tori’ that you found a dangerous knife in the Ruins. And now I can take your SOUL and hide it away until another human falls down here!” The vines circled up her arm, staying strong despite her attempts to struggle free. She looked down at the toy knife in her hand and got an idea. She tossed it over to her other hand and started hacking at the thick vines on her arm, making them stop moving and eventually loosening them up, allowing her to get free and run away. She bolted back to Toriel’s home and got inside, slamming the door behind her and panting heavily. Toriel came out from her room. “Who’s there?” She saw Adelia looking traumatized and tired and rushed over. “My child, what happened?” She was too exhausted from her full-speed dash to respond and simply leaned on her adoptive mother, who picked her up and sat down in the chair in the living room, allowing the child to rest and regain her energy. She thought about the little flower who wanted to take her soul, and spoke of other humans falling down here. Where were they? Why hadn’t she seen them around before? Thoughts and theories crowded her mind as she closed her eyes, coming close to the truth just before sinking into the dark void of sleep. ‘What if they’ve been killed?’
