1 x 4 = 4
A soft knock at the door was heard, the couple nervously sparing looks before one of them opened the door sly smiles painted on their lips. They have been waiting for them to come, and they even managed to change into a much more formally decent clothes that they usually wear a work.
"Good morning, you two must be Mister Jeon Jungkook and Jeon-Park Jimin? I'm Kang Chansuk, a worker from Busan Shelter and here's Miss Yun Jinsuk a clinical social worker. We are accompanied by here by officer Jeon Junghyun and Miss Jung Dawon."
"We are, please have a seat inside." Jungkook led the way to the living room, politely entertaining their guests.
Jimin surely didn't expect much people to come, and he never felt that nervous since his last exams at Japan. His palms are surely sweaty in the colder weather that it can wash over a whole plate clean and he was surely jealous of his husband that can remain his composure without a trace of worry.
"We've already reviewed the case from Officer Jeon and Miss Jung. It seemed that the two of you are willing to take this unnamed child under your wing?" One of the middle aged social worker spoke.
"Um, she isn't unnamed. We gave her the name Haneul." Jimin hastily replied.
"And yes, we'll want to rehome and raise her together. We'll gladly go through the process of adoption for her."
Jimin kinda took the 'unnamed child' title offending, surely no one wanted to be addressed that way. He felt Jungkook take his hand, squeezing it a little as he felt Jimin's temper was rising against the offending social worker.
"I see. There are qualifications given by the law, and one of it is the financial stability to be able to raise the child. Can I ask what were your jobs?"
"Me and Jimin works at Bang Highschool as full time high school teachers. I earn around $50,000 annually since I teach for 7-8 years already, including taxes. On the other hand..Jimin is still starting with a year of teaching experience he's earning $30,000."
Jungkook was more well paid than him, and Jimin hoped that they consider their salaries enough and passed to raise a kid. He can't somehow avert his gaze from the social worker as he can see the body language that she's kind off doubting the two of them.
And it annoys him.
"How long have you two been married?"
"Six months."
There has been a dead pan silence in the air after the mention of marriage, and it made the couple more anxious than ever.
"Is there a problem about the length of our marriage?" Jimin asked, biting his lower lip.
"..most adoptions require couples to be married for at least 2-3 years to ensure the bond between the couple. And..you're both males."
"But its for heterosexual couples. We're not like them and surely we won't be having a divorce ever, I don't see the problem with us only married for half a year. Mostly being both males and married."
Jimin replied with a vexing tone, his eyes unable to hide the distress he's been feeling from the social worker. She was annoying and offending for him, and if she isn't some social worker then Jimin could have squared up lectured her about how to sound civil enough.
"The thing is we can't be sure of a fenale child's safety and stability with a premature marriage and a homosexual couple. Let alone the law doesn't allow to adopt a single man to do so—she needs a maternal figure."
"Nice for you to assume that we have a fragile marriage." he replied, his teeth gritting together.
"Jimin, wait—"
"Jungkook. Just stay back, I'll talk."
So to say that Jimin was internally fuming and one step away from raising his hand at the woman. He can see the disdain in her eyes when he stares at the both of them and he'll do the same—really.
"You know, Yun—whoever you are, I wanna be nice and polite especially you're someone who can determine our future with a kid we dreamed of together. Really. But you are implying us to be incapable just by first few sentences of yours, not even evaluating us properly nor the kid. Didn't even gave options, what we can do or what will happen. You didn't even ask the kid's condition and called her nameless much more bring your intolerance for couples like us in our very own home. I don't tolerate cheating kids and disrespectful students in my classroom, same as someone disrespectful like you in my own home."
The atmosphere is heavy in the room, and none dare say a word after Jimin's voiced out thoughts were finally out in the box the social worker sitting in shock.
Junghyun and Dawon were just deadpan staring and silent too, and even Dawon as a social worker as well seemed to be pissed off her own senior too.
"..same sex couples can't ado—"
"We very well know same sex couples can adopt, thank you. We're not lawyers but teachers, and we are informed about those legal rights. I know we failed by now on your very own 'evaluation' and I don't see any more further talk to go on."
Jimin was firm on his own words and even Jungkook was still stunned by him. He had well constructed their day to be perfect but because of her, its perfectly ruined. He can't even believe that someone like her that lacks knowledge is still in the field of her job, and he's sure everyone in the room knows too.
"Maybe..perhaps Mister Jeon— Jimin am I right? Had a point. W-well..Mrs. Yun, they can adopt a child since both of them are capable. And to tell you the truth..shelters right now, such as our shelter are..cramped and lacked funds especially the growing number of abandoned children. M-maybe if we let them for at least more days, we can see improvements and by that time you can properly evaluate them to be capable or not..?"
The worker from Busan Shelter gave her opinion, that perhaps sided with them that made Jimin gain respect from him. Well, atleast he doesn't hide the truth about the current conditions of shelters and little Haneul could be more left out and uncared for once they surrendered her to the shelter.
"I agree too. My brother, Jungkook, won't do something that could harm the child and perfectly understand since they're both educators that can raise the child well. I can even drop by here everyday to see how they're doing and I assume Miss Jung could check daily too and send reports, am I right?"
Junghyun supported, definitely backing up his brother for their decision making and it helps better since he's a police officer.
"Let them be, please. Such child like her won't fit in the shelter, there are already plenty of lost kids in there and much more when you add her on those numbers."
Dawon backed up that let the elder social worker re think about her decision and words about them.
"...Miss Jung. Just hold this case, I'd put on the decision to you. You can assess them yourself."
Jungkook's hopes were lit up, looking at Jimin who seemed to have that prideful smirk on his face as he knew somehow that he won the verbal battle. And he's more than proud by his move.
"Thank you, Mrs. Yun. I'm glad I gained your trust. Just the next time, be civil enough and sensitive, you could've encountered a much more enraged person than me. By the way, the door is at left."
Jimin smiled half sincere and mocking, his hand pointing on their door with Junghyun accompanying her out of the apartment.
"That was so strong of you, sir Jimin! So provided that Miss Dawon would let the two of you adopt her then perhaps we'd expect you two to run some legal requirements?"
"Yes. Sooner than it should be, you'd expect! Haneul will be a Jeon sooner and we want her to grow up well."
Jimin's previous demeanor was switched finally into his friendly one, now accomodating them with a happy and sincere greetings.
"I'm pretty sure our mom and dad would like to meet little Haneul, Jungkookie."
Junghyun already came back in the room after he succesfully escorted out the social worker earlier, tapping his brother's back.
"Well..maybe after me and Jimin finalize the legal stuff then we'll get everyone to meet her. I'm sure mom could wait for a while?"
"Sorry, mom knows about it and she's more than happy. Y'know she's a softie for babies, I remembered her smothering and spoiling my little boy everytime she meets him. And I think she misses Jimin too."
The sudden mention of Jungkook's mother brought a little tingle on Jimin's spine. When your in-laws misses you, he's still skeptic if it is a good thing or a bad predicament but one thing for sure, he still feared her at the back of his mind.
"Oh, what do you think of making a party for Haneul? Like maybe some welcoming party? I'm sure your family would like to see her! And I'd let you too!"
Dawon suggested which the couple liked the idea so they won't have to bother to go in the houses of their parents that can spare them a little stress off. And pretty sure their other friends would love to see her as well.
"We'd think about it but for sure, all of you would be invited." Jungkook replied with a soft smile.
"I'd just send the requirements to be fixed for the adoption to Jimin-ah then visit you again tommorrow with Junghyun-ssi. We have to go, we had to fix things in the office."
Dawon and their others bid their goodbyes, shaking hands with Jimin and Jungkook after they left them peacefully.
"I never expected you to stand up earlier, its like your 'Mister Park' switch was shifted and that made me genuinely scared."
Jungkook teased but spoke half the truth. He rarely saw him that genuinely mad besides fuming in his highschool days that he found cute, but when things get serious hell breaks loose.
"Why? You found me hot when I'm mad?"
He playfully wrapped his arms around Jungkook's neck, a smirk on his face as he lean is slowly feeling their hot breaths against each other's lips.
"A bit scared, but now I do found you hot."
Jungkook caught his lips against his sharing a passionate kiss together, their lips moving in sync with each other perfectly tongues meeting in between kisses till Jimin had let his tongue inside his mouth allowing him to lead and had his tounge explore his crevice moaning in the kiss.
Their bodies were close and rubbing to each other, Jimin slowly unbuttoning the first top buttons of Jungkook's dress shirt feeling his husband's warm skin against his. Both of them are trying to be quiet muffling their moans together by kissing much more deeper while their hands travel into their bodies.
They were a step away from the sofa, Jimin pushing him down and straddling on his lap. He was proceeding to unbutton a few more grinding themselves together when—
"WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Jimin fell from the sofa flat on his butt when he was shocked by the baby's loud cry and Jungkook shotting up his position to help his husband.
"Ow..I thought she'd be sleeping for a few more hours..we should have done this at breakfast.." Jimin pouted but he just shrugged, walking up to see the problem why she cried.
"Omooo, why is our little baby Haneul crying?"
Her diapers wasn't full, could have been she was hungry as Jimin guessed. Thankfully he prepared some milk by her side, feeding the little baby in his arms.
"Maybe we should just go shopping for your stuff today what do you think about it baby Haneul? Awuu~ cutie."
He fed her for minutes until she's fine, assisting her to burp after. Jimin could guess that she won't be asleep for some more hours, and maybe they could get that chance for them to go shopping with her a little.
"Kookie-ah, since we're off today we should go start and shop Haneul's stuff. More baby clothes and crib then some new feeding bottles and necessities whatchu' think?"
Jungkook was watching them from the door frame, agreeing to go.
"I'd just call for an Uber, we can't risk that much letting her ride on a bus. She's still risky for catching those viruses and we can't afford that to happen."
"Yup. I'd just clean Haneul up and change her clothes then some additional little cloth we can wrap on then we're good to go."
Jimin did so, and brought some spare diapers on his bag and some cleaning wipes, of course money then they waited for the uber to come and get them to the mall. He was holding little Haneul close to him with the sling bag necessity by his side that made him look so motherly.
"Oh, its here, that's the car."
Jungkook double checked before he and his family ride inside, their ride to the mall was quiet—well, if you count the little cute bickering moments from Jimin and Haneul inside the car that even got their driver giggly just by the cute sounds. They arrived shortly, the couple saying thank you for the driver for his gentle driving and paying after.
"So, what part should we shop first?"
"Clothes! I'm really excited to pick clothes for our little Haneul and she needs a thicker ones for the weather."
They proceeded to the infant clothes section together, Jimin totally taking every cute thing he sees that is in yellow and pink color even those baby socks and shoes with ruffles in it.
"Jungkookie! Which is cuter? Chimmy or Cooky?" He was referring to the new cute cartoon group that has been popular online that even Jimin began to follow it too.
"Cooky, I like that bunny a lot. Look, there's some BT21 baby brand over there! There's a Cooky onesie."
"I'm starting to doubt if you're the one that actually likes Cooky."
"But I really do like that pink bunny. And you love that yellow puppy Chimmy too don't you?"
The two were taking their time to choose from the BT21 stuff from clothes to toys and some music CD from the group for Haneul to listen everyday, and some little activity books that Jungkook can teach her soon.
"Should we go to the cribs and stroller section? What theme should we have for her? Pink or yellow? Or maybe we spot on go for the BT21 again?"
"Last idea, definitely."
They were a happy couple with their baby shopping for more necessities that Jungkook and Jimin knew they'd be eating ramen for days again as their money fly from their cards, but not that they care much, as long its for their little Haneul.
"Jungkookie, that one crib is cute!"
He pointed at the yellow crib with the beautiful white touch ups, but some lady was already looking at it and she seemed sad, her fingers trailing slowly in the wooden crib making Jimin frown.
But she's familiar to him, like somehow Jimin have seen her face before.
"Jimin? Are you okay? I thought you liked that one for Haneul so we should ask." Jungkook worriedly asked him, and even Haneul feels that the person holding her has became sad too.
"She..looked sad for the crib, I guess. Maybe she'd like that one so lets just look for another." Jimin replied, still puzzled about the sad familiar woman.
"Alright. I've seen some yellow and pink color combined over there, maybe we should check it out? If Haneul giggles then that's the one."
They walked to that section, the sad woman looking at them as the happy family walk together. Her eyes were fixed at them—especially to Jimin that has been holding the little girl all the time.
"It must've been nice to be happy after all."
She spoke softly, her hands still trailing off the crib feeling the soft texture of the wood that she'd never get to have.
Jimin shifted his gaze to see if she's still looking at the crib and when their eyes met—that's when he knew who she was.
"Is that..Park..Sigyn?"
