Chapter 13

Mitch's Point of View

A loud bang shattered the silence followed up by several more in quick sucesssion. Each hit made the walls rumble, made your feel of happiness crumble,  and your eyesight stumble. The after-effects made a little bit of rock chunks and and dirt fall from the ceiling.

I gasped in fright as I curled into a small, fetal position. I have not a single idea what was happening, but whatever it was, it was emanating an ominous feeling. My eyes swam through the darkness surrounding me, for what I didn't know, but it felt like a survival instinct.

"...What...What is this?..." I heard his voice echo in the halls, sounding almost as if it was scared. What is happening? I thought as I feared for my life. He spoke nothing more after that which made me even more attentive, but made a load more chills race up my spine.

Suddenly, the darkness became even colder than before except with an even more murderous feel added to the suffocating air. I started hyperventilating and my eyesight became even more hazy then before. I was positive that I would pass out any moment now, but my weakened will was barely keeping me awake.

A high pitched scream echoed from down the hall, and I knew it wasn't Aiden this time. This scream was at a higher pitch but was filled with the screeching sound of an enderman in pain. I didn't know whatever was making that noise but it definitely would be meeting its end soon, at least, I think so. No, I hope so. I don't want hear any more awful screaming.

"Please, please, please...Notch, have mercy on me..." I croaked with my parched throat and dry lips. All I yearned for was my family, Jerome. Although the rest of my family had perished, I had to be strong for them, but Jerome was the one there I could lean on. I just wished so badly that he was here with me.

A fiery glow seemed to sneak over to my cell when I wasn't paying attention. I realized something was there when it came a little too close for comfort near the iron bars of the metal cage. Even though my back was against the wall farthest from the iron bars, I could still feel the prickling heat from the apparent lit object, I mean, person.

My eyes grew to wide saucers when I looked at the creature, who seemed to be the result of torture on what seemed to be the remnants of Aiden.

There were few similarities to the normal girl from before and the horrendous and murderous 'thing' that stood before me. Her mere appearance was sickening for everything about her had become abnormal.

Her body's skin was flaking off of herself and burning into ash, leaving a dark and flowing-like-water aura in those places. Those black spots were opaque so, at the least, you couldn't see her insides, which was helpful to keep me from puking my guts out. Still, that wasn't all to her new and experimented self.

There seemed to be a blue fire emanating from her body which was what was probably burning the skin that fell off. That blue fire must've been extremely hot for me to be able to feel it from a fifteen-block distance and be sweating from it.

Not only was her skin and body heat changed, but her facial features as well. She had a murderous glint in her eyes, almost saying that she was ready to literally kill every single person, mob, and block for fun. Her mouth was turned into a crooked and forced smile, like that of an insane person in an asylum. Her head was just slightly tilted to the side in an effort to almost try to look cute.

It was absolutely horrifying.

Her clothes were ripped and torn everywhere, but were somehow managing to not be completely incinerated. Blood was seeping out from cuts and even bruises, as well as scabs littering her whole self. Though, she didn't seem to be bothered by it, nor seem to be in any pain at all.

Her hands were twitching almost as if they were itching to strangle someone slowly, enjoying their pained faces as they greeted death. Nor was her body movement, like walking, normal. She was able to walk easily, yes, but she would leave an imprint on the floor which would emit smoke after she lifted her foot. But it seemed as if with every step, she was contemplating how to kill the next person in her sight.

Smiled directly at me and I let out a yelp. She didn't do a single thing, and yet, just almost barely making eye-contact was horrifying to the core. Her hand lifted into the air, twitching as she reached for the metal bars. Before her hands even met the metal, it had already fully melted into liquified metal.

She slowly made an easy entryway into my cell by merely standing near it. I feared for my life as she slowly descended upon me with her scarred and bloody hands. I screamed in pain as her hand touched my chin and forced me to look at her straight in the eyes.

"You." She spoke in a hushed voice.

"Didn't." Her expression turned grim and her smile dissapeared.

"Help." Her emblazened face slowly crawled over near my ear.

"Me." She finally whispered.

I screamed.

I screamed, yelled, shouted, and screeched in pain as she painfully grabbed the back of my collar and dragged me out of the prison cell. Her fire didn't burn my clothing but it definitely burned the back of my neck, which forced me to go through excruciating pain.

Soon enough, I had lost my will to fight and voice to shout. All I could do as the pain increased more and more, most likely melting my neckbone. I just couldn't wait until death came upon me, so then, I can finally stop suffering. In hope of blacking out and waking in the aether, I closed my eyes.

Her voice chimed in, soon after she had forced her way out into the dark night, still dragging me by the back of my collar. She giggled and maniacal laugh and spoke in a broken voice, "...He-hello, m-my prey..." She giggled once more and I felt her burning fingers pull up my eyelids, forcing me back into reality.

I cried out in a burst of pain as my eyes suffered from third-degree burns. She took her fingers away and smiled at me once more. "A-are you enj-jo-joying...my g-gift...?"

"It's made of love..." She said, smiling down on me.

"Heated."

"Burning."

"Love." She cackled uncontrollably.

My eyes glittered in the saddening moonlight, for I truly believe that I am going to die this night.

Most would believe me to speak my last words, but really, I took the only chance I had, which was to try and reach for the Aiden before the experiment was done. If I wanted to live, although it seems like a futile attempt, I would have to risk trying to talk to her old self.

After a few tries of re-using my voice, I managed to speak. These were my last words before I succumbed to the darkness that I'd been longing for. "Aiden...I know you're there...I know...you hear me..."

I sent a look of sadness to the deranged Aiden and finished my words, "Pain...I feel...pain...I hope that...you know...you were the cause..."

I seemed to hit a nerve because her madness seemed to falter for just a second, so I continued. "You...gave me pain...I just wish you...to know that..."

She growled at me with anger flaring in her eyes, swimming in the blood lust. "What are you talking about, stupid human?" She hissed angrily at me, but I merely stared back at her, but not making eye contact.

Then, I don't know if I imagined it or not, but the fire burning behind her eyes seemed to go out for a second, and I could see the old Aiden. But just as quick as it came, it had gone.

She hissed again, "She's gone, boy. Don't you see?" She growled at me and I just barely managed the weakest smile I could muster. "...You're...wrong..."

Her expression twisted into a confused one as she snarkily replied back, "Boy, you are delusional. Aiden. Is. Gone." She smiled that crooked and maniacal smile at me. "She's gone, and you can't do anything."

"She's there...and I know it..." I looked at her straight in the eyes. "...because she's strong...she wouldn't fall...to such a weak demon..."

Her eyes glared their most fiercest glare yet. My will didn't falter, but my strength did because I was practically on the brink of death. Then, the most peculiar happened, although it was what I was sort of aiming for.

Her eyes lost their glint and I knew it was the real Aiden. Her expression was sad and sorry as she stared at me on the edge of death. I smiled weakly once again and she managed to croak, "Sorry-"

Her eyes flashed back to their murderous form and it chilled my spine. "There's no point in apologizing!" She smiled murderously at nothing in particular, "He's too far gone anyway. I wished I could've played with him a little longer, like they did with us..."

My expression turned confused as I noticed that she mentioned the experiment, and called herself 'us'. This added more to this mysterious puzzle as to what happened to Aiden when she was experimented on. But I'm pretty sure I won't live long enough to know the truth.

My head fell back and the last I saw was her flare wooshing away in the wind as she, too, seemed to fall unconscious, I think. But I didn't have time to see because I looked above my head to see that my health bar was all the way down to zero.

Well, I guess this is my last goodbye to the world, I thought sadly but I welcomed death. "I'm sorry...Jerome..."
