10 Songs I Think Are Masterpieces
i like music. like, a lot. I've heard a lot of it. so let me tell you what songs i think are generally among the best ever made. all genres count in this, i'm not very biased to genres. this is also in no particular order it's just 10 songs.
#10: Losing my religion
https://youtu.be/u036M7p6-ak
Losing my religion is a poetic masterpiece that tells so much about vulnerability and paranoia. It's strange because the title is said like three times in the whole song but it's still the title. It's insane how this song can be interrupted differently depending on what you relate it to. Musically, it is atmospheric and a perfect balance. The melodies and beat are just fantastic. There is very much a reason as to why this is a classic.
#9: Somebody That I Used To Know
https://youtu.be/DqRC5tquyU0
This song is by far the best duet in history. It's quiet and brooding and builds to something. It tells a story of a heartbroken guy and it leads you in to feel sorry for him. Then the woman's voice comes in loud and clear. And bam it's a big plot twist that he's a big asshole and the relationship was actually abusive. The instrumentals make it feel like your taking the steps slowly being led. It really helps the idea of the song telling the story of a breakup of two people that just didn't work. It's just masterful.
#8: Hallelujah
https://youtu.be/rxUImfvzM08
I believe the Jeff Buckley version is the best one and I will fight any one on that. Seriously though, what makes this song masterful isn't actually the instrumentals-although they do help-it's all in the lyrics. This song is lyrical genius. You can spend years interrupting this song and picking it apart. It's also such a universal song yet so specific. Like, it tells these specific scenes but you can imagine them in your own way without a time period. It's really amazing.
#7: Little Talks
https://youtu.be/ghb6eDopW8I
It's strange how songs about relationships falling apart tend to be the best of the best. Again, another song that takes advantage about it being a duet. This is a lot more mellow though, it's showing the idea of falling out of love and what it looks like when the ship is sinking. It's hopeful. The verses having quieter instrumentals to really emphasize that despair in the relationship falling apart. The brass in the chorus showcasing the hopefulness in the light at the end of the tunnel. The bridge is just masterful too. With even the tone of how the chorus is sung is different. It's just so satisfying.
#6: This is America
https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY
Everything having to do with this song is masterfully done. The video amazing. The fact that it's supposed to sound any regular rap song but paired with the video gives it a different meaning. The instrumentals and backing vocals being perfectly placed and fitting so well. It's a literal showcase of what art can and should be.
#5: Smooth
https://youtu.be/QcUxrpIwuQ4
Smooth is a really accurate title. This song is smooth and so pleasing to listen to. All the instruments coming perfectly together with a nice beat to back it up. The brass not destroying the song or even sounding one bit annoying. It's the type of song you chill to but also dance to. The lyrics are amazing, describing this amazing person and trying to get with them is what the entire song is about and it's fucking nice. aND the guitar solo is or g a s m ic.
#4: Crazy
https://youtu.be/Qe500eIK1oA
You'll know what this song is the moment you hear it. I love it so fuckin much holy shit. The strings being creepy yet soothing at the same time. The stayin' alive type walking beat. The b a s e li n e. The lyrics about this man contemplating his life and why he can't quite feel emotions. It's literally the psychopath's song.
#3: Get Lucky
https://youtu.be/5NV6Rdv1a3I
Daft Punk are masters in groove. AND BOY DO THEY DELIVER ON THIS SONG. It manages to be smooth while grooving. That guitar rhythm never gets old despite it looping throughout the whole song. The vocals are just so pleasing too. It's just a fun song that makes you wanna dance and appreciate the moment.
#2: Safe And Sound
https://youtu.be/47dtFZ8CFo8
I love that brass on this song during the chorus. I love the versus going quiet and slowly building to the chorus. This really sounds like declaration of love and vowing to protect someone. It's possibly even the best love song ever. Like, it's a song that just makes you happy and hopeful. I just love that so much. I love this so much.
#1: Hymn for the Weekend
https://youtu.be/YykjpeuMNEk
This song just sounds so natural. And in each listen you can catch a new melody with different instruments that come together. The lyrics being about partying and living in the moment and it makes you feel it. It captures that feeling of happiness after going through a ton of bullshit. It's almost mystical and unreal yet real and natural. LIKE WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS IT SO GOOD??
b o n u s
that's right a bonus masterpiece to soothe your ears.
https://youtu.be/OblL026SvD4
This song made me realize I should listen to more Paramore. It's literally what it should feel like when celebrating a functional relationship which you don't see too often which is odd. It's cheerful and boastful yet controlled. I don't know, i just can't explain this song it just makes sense. It works so well.
And that's it for n o w
