20; Lovely Family

Her

The evening they arrived, the Dawoods were glad to receive them.

Barak ran straight into his uncle's arms as he lifted him up and whirled around. They hugged and told how badly they had missed each other. For another fifteen minutes, they were not ready to depart, letting everybody see their dramatic meet-up.

Then they were welcomed wholeheartedly by their family members. Specially their lovely Barak received countless blessings, followed by Evalena, who got their attention, as Adam's father's sister was also there for the Christmas celebration of the year.

Abigail, Adam's aunt, blessed his wife and was glad to see her, because finally, her lovely nephew was not going to live alone for the rest of his life. A widower's life is not simple, after all. The fact that he is a widower would make any woman retreat even before getting to know him if he wanted to get married again.

They talked for an hour, satisfying their hearts.

Evalena remained surrounded by the Dawoods, talking with her mother-in-law, when her husband joined them, jumping straight next to her. Not worrying about others, he lies on the bed, resting his head on his wife's lap.

It would be an underestimate to say that Evalena ignored the extra attention she received after that, along with those knowing looks. But no, she was blushing like a ripe cherry all the time, avoiding Adam's gaze which was on her all the while.

He was not listening to anyone unless someone would call his name. He only stared at his wife, breathing peacefully.

They discussed and left after some time. Barak was with his grandfather and great-grandfather all the while, accompanied by his uncle who was more childish than Barak himself, wearing artificial Mickey Mouse ears and riding the child's scooter.

His mother would scold her but he would flash his world dazzling smile and escape with Barak. Not just Ansel, Barak's uncle, but Abigail's grandchildren also made the Dawood mansion echo with the loud and lovely giggles of innocent kids.

Now, being amidst such a lovely family, Evalena paid less attention to Adam. She was with her mother-in-law mostly, learning new things. She wanted to see her, already, because her mother-in-law never made her feel distant, rather, like her own daughter.

The day passes in a blink of an eye and finally, when it is night, Evalena comes to their room, half sleepy, after they have prayed together, holding hands, and it feels more alive to be among more people who sang praises to the Lord and worshiped Him for an hour, followed by deep petitions.

She closes the door behind herself and the next, she is taken in a warm embrace, followed by a soft thud, indicating that the door is now closed.

"Adam," she almost whispers in amazement, gaping at him.

He hums, "I missed you," he says, kissing her cheek.

She smiles, closing her eyes for a brief moment, as long as the touch on her cheek lasts. "We're in the same house," she giggles, shaking her head.

"Yeah, but you were away from me," he reasons in a lazy tone, trailing kisses down her neck that her breathing labors.

"Your family is so lovely; I couldn't get enough," she whispers, clutching his shoulders. Her eyelids flutter close as he takes her earlobe between his lips, humming a melody in her ear about which she is not aware; she just knows it is hypnotizing. But a gasp leaves her lips when he suddenly lifts her in his arms.

He chuckles, looking at her surprised expression. "Well, I am aware, but you shouldn't forget your husband, should you, dear wifey?" He takes her to the bed and puts her down gently, hovering over her and continuing the assault on her neck and jaw.

"Are you upset about it?" She asks, moaning as he licks her jaw down her chin.

"Can I be?" He asks back, coming to face her. He dips his fingers into her locks and caresses the scalps before tangling the digits.

Gazing down at her flushed appearance, he whispers above her lips, "Open your eyes." She does as he says, but the dark look in his eyes, pupils dilated and their proximity leaves her nervous as well as more shy than before.

With closed eyes, it seemed easy. But locking gaze with his golden stare is something that she finds dangerous. What more he is about to reveal, makes her heart beat faster than before. Of course, she was never aware of this side of Adam. Being a gentleman, she had no idea how amazing he would be with touches and kisses. But he showed her the same last night, torturing her sweetly in that kiss so that she was a beautiful mess by the time he was done with her.

About last night and the current position they are in—him hovering above her, set between her thighs—she becomes hotter and even more rosy.

He notices the rising temperature in her and a smirk finds its way to his lips.

"Are you blushing, wifey?" He brings himself closer to her, holding her waist and caressing the curve from above her white cardigan.

As expected, she stammers a lie, "N-No. I don't blush." Like she had said before.

He chuckles under his breath, pressing his lips. "Is that so?" He whispers, lowering himself upon her. "Let's make you blush then," he adds and she gasps at the touch of his warm palm on her bare waist as he pushes it inside her cardigan.

"Adam," she mumbles, biting her bottom lip.

"Yes, my love," saying that, he goes further up, dipping his face into the crook of her neck. She receives brief yet sensual kisses on her skin, getting tortured sweetly and becoming a moaning mess.

He licks her cheek and his face hovers over her once again, eyes witnessing her tired and rosy state. A very thin layer of perspiration gleams over her skin, letting him know how gently yet cruelly he has handled her.

"Aren't you blushing now?" He teases, putting a hand on her cheek and caressing her skin.

Her eyes peel open, sinking into his dark eyes. "How cruel are you, I have witnessed now," she complains with fake anger dripping from her lips, yet eyes filled with love and softness.

He chuckles. "So you think I'll let you go unpunished after you lie to me in my face?" He arranges her cardigan back in its place and lies next to her, holding his palms under his head.

"Oh, Professor Dawood, I should apologize to you then," she murmurs and he looks at her, the corner of his lips twitching up at how pretty and little she looks beside him.

"You don't have to," he says, "Because I'm gonna torture you this way quite often anyway."

She gapes at him. Being new and inexperienced between the sheets, she says, "You, serious?"

"Yes, I am."

"Okay," she sighs, "Just don't bite."

"I'll do it more than anything."

At her silence but narrowed eyes at him, he chuckles and cups her cheeks. "Oh, you're so adorable when angry, Eva." He kisses her forehead.

That night, they talk with each other for another two hours unless she falls asleep first and he covers themselves with a comforter, falling asleep next to her while remembering her funny and cute expressions when he gets closer to her.

All this makes him remember that she is inexperienced, unlike him. That's why, is always shy at his single touch, blabbering anything when looks into his eyes, and finally, is nervous when he is closer than at any time. But every time, at his mercy, exhaling and writhing, yet yearning for more.

The next morning, she wakes up before Adam and finds him asleep by her side. The face of her beloved has her heart tingle with sensations she has never experienced before.

She smiles softly and turns around to grab her mobile. She clicks a snap of them like she has done before. Many times! And he was not even aware of it. Her personal section in the gallery is full of their pictures together in which Adam was either sleeping or literally unaware.

She smiles at the picture and puts her mobile away. She gets on her knees and prays like she does every morning, but this morning, there is a celestial glow on her face that speaks volumes of her heart's content.

She praises her Lord for at least an hour as to how good He is! And then she goes to freshen up. She comes out, changed into a soft pink colored turtleneck pullover and warm pants. She dries her hair and the sounds made by those little commotions wake up Adam.

Opening his eyes, he beholds his wife, yawning and stretching his limbs. But after that, he remains in bed, watching her drying her hair. Her hair is long, it will take time, he knows it and realizes that he has plenty of time to use in the bed while his eyes are set on his wife.

"Good morning," she says, breaking his trance as she sees him in the mirror.

"Good morning," he wishes back, asking, "Are you going downstairs?"

"Yeah, I'll leave after I'm done," she says, adding, "Why do you ask though?"

"Nothing." He gets down from the bed and disappears into the bathroom. Evalena shrugs at his sudden leave but comments nothing. Even after her hair is a little wet, she leaves it because she looks presentable enough.

She starts applying makeup, and when she grabs her lip taint, he comes out of the bathroom, still in his night clothes. He stares at her lip taint and takes it from her fingers.

"What are you doing?" She asks as he puts her lip taint down.

He doesn't answer her. Rather, he pushes his hair back and softly pinches her chin. He tilts her head and lets his lips descend upon hers, taking her by surprise. Oh, she was not expecting it.

He tilts his head to lock their lips and sucks hers tenderly. Her face heats up after he leaves her mouth. The kiss was not long enough to suck the air out of her lungs but surely set her on fire, her face as red as a cherry.

"Get used to it, yeah?" He smiles and leaves, disappearing back into the bathroom with a towel.

Evalena remained rooted in her place for another few minutes, still feeling his touch on her chin, his lips on hers.

Oh, Adam, keep in mind this poor heart!

Having her morning spent in an unusual way, she goes downstairs, making her way into the kitchen. She wants to cook for everyone as she has learned well. She is glad that many times Adam helped her.

But as soon as she is on the threshold, she finds Barak inside with his grandmother. There is a honey jar in her hand and she gives a spoonful of it to Barak.

The kid's eyes shine as he tastes honey. Evalena also gives him that but what her mother-in-law does after makes her stay where she is and listen to them as the old woman says, "Do you like honey?"

"Yes, very much! Mama gives it to me every morning. It is so sweet!"

Hazel, his grandmother smiles at him, patting his cheek. "How well! But you know, there's something sweeter than honey," she says, closing the lid.

"Really? What's that? Sugar?"

"No, my love." She puts the jar aside, adding, "It's the Word of God, His lovely presence."

"Is it sweeter than honey?"

"Yes, it is sweeter than honey, a nourishment to bones. You won't find anything sweeter than this. My lovely Barak, His Word dissolves in mouth and His presence will be everything to you once you get to know it."

Barak, being a curious child, asks, "How can I taste His Word, then?"

"You already have His Word, the Holy Bible."

"But I don't find it sweet, Granny." He makes a face that makes his grandmother chuckle under her breath as he asks, "Do I have to eat it?"

His question makes her chuckle more loudly than before, yet with elegance. Adam's mother possesses every pretty habit that can charm anyone.

"Haven't you?" The kid denies it innocently to her answer to his first question. "Oh, but it is! Your daddy has tasted it. By reading it and understanding it, my love."

"He never told me about this! Now, I'll also search for it this way!"

"May you find it, my child."

He grins at her and leaves the kitchen, running into his mother on the way. "Oh, good morning, sweet, sweet Mama!" He chirps in a singsong manner.

"Good morning, my love."

The kid does not remain there and runs away, which he has been doing since yesterday. Evalena does not mind it. He is soon surrounded by Abigail's grandchildren.

As Evalena walks inside, she greets her mother-in-law, receiving a very sweet response with a lovely smile. It is then another time when Evalena beholds her mother-in-law and is fascinated by evergreen beauty. She is not very old that she would have white hair but even with slight wrinkles, the woman is such a beauty to be admired. Evalena wonders about her youth, looking into the old woman's unique hazel eyes.

"Is this..." Evalena trails off to get her attention as the woman gets busy arranging the honey jar in its place, "Is this how you raised Adam?"

"Yes, my dear," she replies, turning to give her a smile, "I have taught Adam about the Word of the Lord, so that He won't go astray and live a life that'd please the Lord."

Evalena smiles, knowing the result.

"Even though I have read that the Word of the Lord is sweeter than honey, I never used it this way. I'd have to learn more from you."

"And I'll teach you." The woman blinks at her. "I'll teach you how you can sow seeds now and reap a good harvest in the future. May Barak be a godly man when he grows up, walking in the Lord's statutes and obeying His commandments."

"Amen."

"When I told Adam this—about the Lord's Word being sweeter than honey—he was intrigued and memorized the Torah in order to learn the Lord's commandments and keep them in his heart. He was six years old when I sowed that seed in him."

"Wow, I haven't even known Torah by that age."

"I know Gabriella was a very dedicated mother. She brought you to the church with us. You used to be with Adam all the time. Do you still remember how you learned to pray?"

Evalena bites her bottom lip, averting her gaze as she mumbles, "Yeah, he taught me. That morning, like a teacher, he opened the Gospel of Matthews in front of me and didn't let me go until I memorized the prayer."

The woman chuckles, shaking her head. "It was the first time you saw his strict side."

Evalena nods. Even after that, she was crazy about him. Let us say, that his strict side even added to her affection for him. She never stepped back.

They talk with each other for a while. Evalena learns more from her mother-in-law. Soon after that, her day gets busy with the family. So the way Adam expected from her. He knew after the moment in front of the vanity, that he wouldn't even run into her even by mistake.

But as the evening comes, she receives a surprise that halts her breath. She was not expecting it—another guest—her father, being invited by the Dawoods for the Christmas celebration.
