Praying is like a battle.
Not in this physical realm but surely in the spiritual realm. The prince of this earth doesn't want you to continue your petition to your God and unless you are sinking and sinking into the eternal love of God, you'll be attacked continuously and feel like what you are doing is nothing but nonsense.
So be like an ant who is obsessed with its jaggery. It clings to it as its life depends on it, and then it doesn't matter if it dies loving the same jaggery. Love your God just like that. Love Him till the end of time like He has loved you and don't be afraid of dying in His love because, unlike this world, He promises you eternal life.
He promises your soul will resurrect on the day of judgment and you'll be accompanying Him in His kingdom where there is sadness no more, tears no more, corruption no more, and evil no more but only peace, love, and Him.
And so like anyone, Evalena, too was in the same battle unless her God put her with her life partner. Her husband; Adam.
Well, so was with Adam.
Prayer never felt this beautiful, this peaceful, and this amazing that they didn't even realize the time that passed while they were together before their Lord.
Oh, this love is so pure! This bond is so sacred. We all know women were made for men but do we dig deep enough to rejoice in the truth? No, we don't. But when we do, understanding it deeply, the truth gives her joy. It sets us free.
And so was with Adam.
Maybe he has forgotten how it felt to be with Nora when he prayed. He found serenity, and true peace with his companion to meet God. Night was his favorite time and he longed to rejoice in the company of his God.
However, the same peace seems to come alive when Evalena kneels beside him.
They held hands and prayed. For hours. Their palms were sweaty and their hearts were at peace. Silence soothed them instead of eating them from inside for the first time after years. And finally, their souls seemed to wake up again to intertwine for they were made for each other.
Since that day, they have been pulled closer to each other. And they don't even realize it. However, the feeling is beautiful. Peaceful.
"Adam," she calls him, entering the bathroom where he is shaving.
His son actually complained that he can't kiss his cheeks if his stubble remains growing. So he decides to shave it all.
He hums, applying the white thing. He looks at her through the mirror and finds his mobile in her grip that is ringing. He wonders who is calling him this morning.
"I think your friend," she says, putting the screen before him.
Keeping the brush in his hand, he takes the mobile to answer the call. Without putting the screen on his cheek, he decides to answer his friend, pausing his task.
Evalena stands beside him in case he needs help. And she is found to be right when Adam hands her the brush to assist him because the conversation also seems important to him and he doesn't want the cream to remain on his face for more than required.
She holds the lathered brush, examining it for a second. Just for a second to not look crazy in his eyes for smelling its fragrance. It smells fresh. Like aloes with the earthiness of leaves.
Uplifting her gaze, she lets her eyes meet his face. On his cheeks, there is still some place left to be covered with the cream.
So she raises her arms for his service. But their height difference doesn't help her much. Adam, too, seems so indulged in his conversation that he doesn't even mind bending a little. So, not wishing to disturb him, she takes the wooden stool to stand longer than him.
A smile adorns his lips as he catches her making efforts. She puts her hand upon his clean cheek so he can face her and then she continues applying the cream.
Step by step, she does well. Her whole attention is on his cheeks while he lets his eyes secretly behold her as they stand so close. From her long eyelashes to her parted lips, he beholds it all, continuing his conversation but his lack of focus on the world around doesn't fit well with Evalena.
He doesn't comply with her because of his friend.
"Not this side, Adam," she mumbles, turning his face. He goes with it but again, he is back with his face turned in another direction.
Evalena frowns. Putting her palm gently upon the side of his neck, she tries to continue. But once again he irritates her by looking down to scratch the area above his eyebrow.
"Then learn to handle. I won't be coming to rescue you every time, Noah!" He scolds his friend, looking serious. "Oh? Tell me, you're joking."
"Adam, look here, please," she says, turning his face. He listens to her just to frown and sigh. And then he chuckles, looking away.
Having done with everything, she growls. She holds his face firmly and stains his nose and forehead, getting away with the brush.
"Eva!" Adam gasps, touching his nose just to find the evidence of her naughtiness, "Why have you done so?" He puts his mobile aside, now fully focused on her. He forgets to cut the line.
"This is because you were so busy, Adam. I was doing fine." She holds her laugh while reasoning with him. "Khair, kafi acche lag rahe hai aap, janem."
"Acha?" He steps ahead like a predator.
Evalena gets the hint, ready to run away, mumbling, "Ha."
"Abhi batata hoon tumhe," saying that he chases after her as she sprints out of the bathroom. The adorable sound of her giggles surrounds them as she enters their huge room, catching the other side of the couch so that he doesn't catch her.
"This is not fair, Adam! I told you many times to obey me but you didn't!"
"So you'll stain my face? That's not fair either, Eva."
And he rounds the couch to catch her. Because of his unexpected move, she swerves around to dash away, squealing. But he seizes her wrist, turning her around and caging her in an embrace.
He wraps his muscular arm around her petite waist, eating up all the distance between them. Their chests collide as he holds her face and stains it by rubbing their cheeks together.
She groans, gripping his shoulders until he pulls back, still holding her close to himself. And he laughs, looking at her face that is smudged of his shaving cream.
"You stained my face!" She gasps, glaring at him.
"What else does it seem to you, genius?" He cocks his brow, grinning at her. And he doesn't know how sexy he looks when he does it.
Evalena narrows her eyes at him, falling silent. They stare at each other in that peaceful stillness. The birds outside are making a song, collaborating with the squirrels sprinting over the branches of the trees. The breeze of autumn daybreak is soothing and pleasant, pushing the linen curtains of their room, and bringing them out of the trance.
And in his deep, authoritative yet soothing voice, he says, "Vaise aap bhi kuch kam nahi lag rahi hai, hayati."
She blushes, lowering her gaze. That endearment!

Hard stares to scare each other won't work when you have fused into each other's hazy softness. So is with them now.
In the battle of Ludo where none of them wants to come last, they are doing anything that is under their control to reign after their son Barak.
He has won already. All thanks to his parents who rejoice in his victory and delight but now when only they have left on a serene battleground of Ludo, Barak wonders who will come after him and who stays at the last.
Mama or Daddy?
"Adam, you can't do it!" Evalena threatens, throwing daggers at Adam who has a mischievous grin on his lips while his fingers pinch the token through which he is ready to eliminate her last token.
"Adam can do anything, sweetheart," he says in a singsong manner, finally eliminating her.
She gasps. "It was my last!" She slaps his bicep, feeling the muscles turning firm under her touch.
He laughs handsomely, going ahead. "You can unlock them, Eva. Don't be mad," he says, giving her the dice.
She rolls her eyes. She holds the dice and tests her luck but the desired number doesn't come.
Adam contains his laughter when she groans. He takes the dice in his turn, getting five. Wiggling his eyebrows at her, he teases her.
"Mama you'll get six now!" Barak encourages her, raising like a thrilled cub.
Evalena holds the dice. "I question my destiny here, my prince." She throws the dice, muttering at Adam, "But if six comes, I won't spare your Daddy." And finally, she receives six, squealing in excitement.
Barak follows after, rejoicing with his mother. They do a high-five. Adam takes the dice and he only gets two. Hissing, he puts the blue token ahead, knowing very well that now Evalena indeed won't spare him. And he's ready to get beheaded in this battle.
Taking the opportunity, Evalena shuffles the dice only to receive the numbers she desires and finally, she eliminates him. One after the other, she has two of his tokens locked inside his home. Unlike her, he doesn't show his irritation but only stares at his wife, poking the inside of his cheek. And that's enough to let her know that he is annoyed as well.
She notices the look, giggling. "Aww, Mr. Dawood, not so happy now?" She teases him.
"Just wait and watch how I avenge my tokens."
"Of course," she says, batting her eyelashes. She pushes her hair above her shoulder, enjoying the smoothness of her sweater while Adam watches her silently, holding the dice.
Barak is getting entertained aside.
The dice tumbles out, giving him a chance to unlock his token. Shocked, she gapes at him. He hands her the dice and she gets two sixes and a four. So she makes her run. However, Adam chases her to the point where she is going to enter her haven, and right there, he kills the token, leaving her disappointed as well as astonished though she almost begged him not to kill her token, acting, "Please, don't do this?"
Her eyes twinkle as she throws stars at him but Adam shows no mercy, enjoying the game. He kills her token finally, not worrying about the outcomes.
"You're so cruel!" She complains, "It was about to enter!" To wipe off his smug look, she takes the pillow to hit him in the face.
"Such audacity!" He takes another pillow to throw at her but not with force because even while she is angry, she looks so adorable to him. However, how can one forget that he is a gentleman to his wife?
"Yeah, my audacity! You could've given me a chance!" She pushes away her hair, muttering at him. Barak chortles in the background.
"Come on, it's just a game," he says with a shrug but she scoffs, rolling her eyes and mimicking him dramatically. Barak silently laughs, hiding his face in the pillow.
Adam growls, "Don't roll your eyes at me."
"Or else?" She gets up with the pillow and attacks him again before sprinting out of the room like a scared kitten because she knows he will chase her.
But he doesn't do it. Not when his son is around or they both know Adam isn't a man who sits back when challenged.
Silence prevails behind as the father and the son watch the woman leaving. Once she is out of their sight, Barak decides to chime in, "Or else, Daddy?"
Adam's gaze falls upon his child as he sits upright on their bed. He sighs. "Or else who can win your lioness of a Mama?" He says and Barak giggles.
But deep down, Adam knew what he had to say. He can answer her anytime or show her whatever he desires but not before his innocent child.
