“Adam.” His name tumbled out of her mouth in a breathless whisper as she studied his handsome face.
His usually rakish hair was carefully straightened with gel, giving him a sophisticated look that was so unlike him. He'd shaved his stubble, and the spicy aftershave mixed with his alluring cologne infused her senses.
Luckily he set her back on her feet and unwrapped his arms from around her before their posture could call for attention.
Eva rubbed her palms on the expensive dress she was wearing, smoothening invisible creases in an attempt to will herself some control, but her breath caught for a second when her eyes skimmed over his tall figure.
He looked dashingly handsome in a blue suit and matching blue pants, ones that looked way too familiar, ones she'd stripped from his gorgeous body more times than she could count in her dreams.
Erotic memories slammed through her mind.
Like always, the desire was instant, her body reacting to the sexual awareness so flagrantly that she had to dart her eyes sideways to make sure she was the only one who'd felt it.
“Adam.” She breathed his name again.
“Weren't expecting me, were you?” He stepped forward, too close for comfort.
“To be honest, no.” She told him truthfully, wondering why he was here.
Last night at the bar she'd seen how much he hated seeing her with Brandon so why would he be here?
“Oh why? I'm a man of my words, you know.”
A waiter passed by, and he took one of the glasses of champagne with a thank you, his piercing eyes never leaving hers.
“So where's your boyfriend? Thought he would be clinging to you like a parasite for the whole night.”
“He had a few things to take care of.” She replied, resisting the urge to cross her arms over her chest as his eyes roamed over her body.
God, she was wearing a sleeveless, pink silky dress that hugged her waist and flared from there till it ended above her knee, but he was looking at her as if she was completely naked and he couldn't wait to feast on her.
Heat sizzled in her belly, spiralling lower, heating her core and making her nipples harden and pucker against her brassiere.
The look in Adam's eyes told her that her engagement wasn't the only reason why he was here, and the possibilities made her heart race.
“Well, if I were in his place, I wouldn't leave your side for even a second to the glare of all these hungry gazes.”
He gestured around with his eyes, and his possessive tone made a delicious shiver run through her.
A very popular actress passed by, paused about a step away from them, then slowly retraced her steps, eyes scanning Adam from hair to toe.
“Adam Garcia?" Her eyes widened.
Adam's lips tipped in a small, surprised smile. “The one and only.”
“Oh my God, I can't believe this. I love your works so much and I literally follow all the sports competitions you take part off.”
Eva quirked her eyebrows at the excited look on her face and the fact that she was fangirling over Adam. Great, a guest was stealing the show. Well, she could definitely use more of that.
The actress opened the clutch she was holding and took out a small card, and then out of the blue, she hugged Adam in excitement. When she pulled back, Adam had a knowing smile on his face and the woman's card was now in his hand.
“Will be expecting your call." She batted her eyelashes flirtatiously before sauntering off, deliberately swivelling her hips.
Adam chuckled softly which made Eva glare at him, feeling inexplicably annoyed. “I bet you aren't going to waste a second getting her into your bed tonight."
“Absolutely not.” His eyes scanned her and lingered on her chest, giving her that clothes-stripping look that made her breath quicken. “There's only one woman I wish to be in my bed tonight, and she hopefully will if things go as planned.”
His eyes promised her that she was that woman, and the surge of desire had her drinking the last bits of her champagne in a bid to mellow the untamed reaction.
But wait. Plans? Was he planning to stop her engagement?
Eva snorted at the thought. Adam had only ever wanted her body. It wasn't worth stopping her engagement over. The thought burned, and she smiled tightly at Adam.
“Goodluck on that.”
“Oh my God, Eva. Remind me to come with you to every party your mother co-hosts.” Victoria squealed excitedly just some distance away, practically jumping up and down.
“I swear I'm going to deny ever knowing you if you keep on embarrassing me like that!" June glowered at her when they got to where she and Adam stood.
They both looked stunning. June was in a deep red chiffon dress that hugged her curves and ended at her ankle with a long slit that ended on the middle part of her thighs, exposing her slender, sexy legs.
Vicky's dress was more like a second skin, enough to dazzle any man considering she was well endowed in the hips and backside department. A beige dress with only one long sleeve and a long zip on the front attached to matching pants.
“Come on, June. It's not like you're not hyperventilating right now.” Vicky rolled her eyes. “God all these celebs?”
Her mouth dropped open for three seconds straight when her gaze caught in a particular direction. “I'm gonna die, oh God I'm gonna die. Chris fucking Hemsworth is here. My Chris Hemsworth.”
June turned to look, and despite her own obvious excitement at seeing the actor, she glanced back at Vicky with an annoyed look. “If I must remind you for the hundredth time, he is married, Victoria. Besides, he's like twenty years older than you.”
“Duh, who cares?" She crossed her arms over her chest nonchalantly. “And must I remind you I'm only 15 years younger than him? Besides, the older the better.”
She took her bottom lip into her mouth and grazed it with her teeth in a sexy manner and froze when Adam chuckled softly.
Her cheeks reddened as she turned to Adam like she'd just noticed him.
“Shit, Adam! You're looking sexy hot and so eatable in that suit! God help all these women around you!" She placed her hand on her heart dramatically, earning a scowl from June.
“Why thank you, Victoria. If it's any consolation, the men around are in for quite some temptation around you. You're gorgeous." He took Vicky's hand and kissed it.
Eva ignored the sudden possessive impulses that snapped inside her veins. Adam wasn't hers, was never going to be, and she had to make note of that.
“I know right? I'm totally getting laid tonight." Victoria said like it was no big deal.
Adam raised an amused eybrow and they both chuckled before he turned to June. “Hello, June. It's nice meeting you again."
“Don't know if I feel the same.” June deadpanned, brown eyes scanning Adam warily before turning to Eva, a warning glint in them. “Thought we were late so you'd have to endure the guests on your own. Didn't know you had comapany.”
Vicky spoke before Eva could explain. “June let's go and have some celebs hit on us. Girl, it's going to be so fun!”
Before June could protest, Vicky was pulling her along, their stilletos clicking nosily on the floor.
“Single to mingle!” Vicky practically shouted for the whole hall to hear, making heads snap her way.
Giving her a horrified look, June jerked her arm from her hold and fulfilled her earlier threat; she swerved in another direction like she wasn't with Vicky.
“Your friend doesn't like me very much, does she?” Adam asked, giving June a curious look.
“Guess she has her reasons." Eva saw a waiter passing by and signalled him over, taking one of the glasses of champagne.
She couldn't afford to get tipsy, but Adam's presence and closeness was unnerving her and she couldn't see any other way to restore some control.
“Could one of the reasons be that she figured out that last night at the bar, when I took that woman to the washroom, you were wishing it was you instead?” His gaze bore into hers, searing her.
She nearly spit out the drink from her mouth, pulse stuttering. “Excuse me?”
“Adam, you made it!” Brandon's voice rang cheerily as he approached, cutting off what Adam was about to say.
“I did say I would come.” Adam smiled as he took Brandon's hand in a handshake. Eva couldn't fathom whether the smile was fake or genuine. “I was just telling your fiancé how sexy she looks tonight.”
Eva's heart skipped a beat until Brandon smiled smugly. “I know right. Am I not the luckiest man on earth?”
Leaning forward, he covered her lips with his. Eva kissed him back deliberately, inexplicably wanting to see Adam's reaction.
When they pulled back, Adam was regarding Brandon cooly, but his blue eyes blazed dangerously. Apparently, Brandon didn't notice it because he pulled her even closer to his body by the waist.
“Brandon.” A middle aged business tycoon called some distance away. “Can I speak to you for a second, please?”
“Oh God!" Brandon muttered through gritted teeth and made a small sound of frustration. He smiled apologetically as he stepped away from Eva. “I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I'll be back soon.”
He turned and walked over to the man who put his hand at Brandon's shoulder as they walked away.
“I see your boyfriend is fond of ditching you frequently for business.” Adam's voice rang teasingly.
Eva was damned if she was going to stand there with him and have her wish they were alone in a room instead.
Spinning on her heels, she walked away briskly, needing to get away from Adam while acting like nothing was wrong.
