75 | AT THE END OF THE LINE

THE BATCAVE WAS Nayara's favorite place in this world. But no matter how comfortable it made her feel she still felt a bit uneasy, especially since the Gotham streets seemed a little bit too quiet for her liking.

Her quietness was broken by Damian who had ventured into the Batcave. "So what do you do around her?" He asked her.

"I help your father with cases." Nayara said to him.

"Aren't you a little too young for that?" Damian asked her.

"I could ask you the same thing. Planning up to fill in the shoes of another Robin?" Nayara replied to him with a small smirk. Damian got quiet looking ahead.

"This city, it needs a firm hand." Damian said to her.

"And you are going to deliver it?" Nayara asked him curiously. "You know firm hand can take many shapes, you just got to beware on who you hurt in the process." Nayara reminded him. Then she bite her lip, wondering if she should be asking the question she had been dying to ask.

Damian made a displeased face before leaving her by herself once more. Only to be interrupted by Bruce Wayne. "I got a new case for you." Bruce said approaching her.

"For me?" Nayara said unsure. "Why would you give me a case?" Nayara followed.

Bruce send her a blank look, but she saw in his eyes he was displeased. "I already got Lex on my trail and there is more. You know I went with Huntress to Luthor's warehouse and we found a couple of things." Nayara said, summarizing the outing.

"You got the plans with you?" Bruce asked her.

Nayara nodded. "I already put them on the mainframe. And send Barry to take a look at it. He wasn't pleased when he found out I went there in the first place." Nayara added.

Bruce passed her the file of the case she will be working on. However, she froze when she looked at it. "This is a Titans mission." Nayara quietly pointed out.

"You will help them." Bruce said to her. Nayara looked more than confused. "I gather you have been training since getting back." Bruce mentioned.

The brunette nodded. "But what about Sharon?" Nayara questioned him.

"There is a world bigger than her, Nayara. It will be a mission in and out. You would be with a highly skilled team." Bruce said to her. She needed to see beyond her mission. She needed to see the world, and not better way than getting to know the other heroes of this world.

Nayara thought about it for a second. She could see Bruce what Bruce was trying to do: remind her there is more to the world that meets the eye. "Okay." Nayara said, trusting his opinion. Deep down she knew it will be a good practice for her, but will Sharon destroy the team in the process?

. . .

Nayara sat quietly on the library reading a book. She wasn't surprised at the amazing of mysteries that Bruce owned. Richard had showed her the library and she was more than happy to sit a read.

Everyone except Alfred had left to do their own thing. Nayara had to lay low as she prepared for her mission with the Titans. Part of her wondered if she even will do good standing against the other heroes. But for some forsaken reason Nightwing thought she stood a chance, she thought.

The alert of someone in the house chirped in her phone. After crashing so often at the Wayne Manor, Richard had help her set up the alarm on her phone. Especially since sometimes she might be the only one there, which made her a easy target. She frowned catching sight of a woman.

Nayara left the library curiously, to the entrance. "Alfred, are we expecting visitors?" Nayara asked him.

"I don't supposed." Alfred said. Nayara moved away, and around a corner. Nayara poked her head and watched as a woman entered when Alfred stepped in. "Miss Kyle, hello." Alfred said to her.

Selina Kyle smiled at him. "Hello Alfred. Good to see you." Selina said to her. However she turned towards where Nayara was.

Nayara watched curiously Selina Kyle. She had known of her all her life. The way she could get out of sticky situations to her power over anyone who faced her. "It's rude to be staring without presenting yourself." Selina said to her.

The brunette sighed, poking her head out of the door frame. A slight mischievous smile appeared on her face. Selina held back a smile at the look on the brunette's face. "You are new?" She said, noticing the fresh face.

"Bruce isn't home yet. He is out." Nayara said, slowly coming out of her hiding spot. Selina nodded at her. "Everyone that comes around is always looking for him." She added, as she looked over the anti-hero she admired since she was young.

"I am actually here for you. Nayara, right?" Selina asked her.

Nayara shared a curious look with Alfred. "Yeah." Nayara answered. "I thought you will be here for Bruce." Nayara casually said. Selina was now the one giving her the curious look.

"He actually asked me to pick you up." Selina said to her. Nayara knew that Selina and Bruce had always an on and off relationship, which didn't surprise her if he asked for a favor. But something didn't felt right, she couldn't pint point what.

But she was Catwoman, what harm can she do. "Oh, okay. I thought he will be busy with Wayne Tech." Nayara said before turning to Alfred.

"I will bring her back if Bruce can't. I will be around the area, some matters to take to." Selina said to Alfred. "Do you have a curfew?" Selina asked Nayara.

The brunette gave her a incredulous look. "I don't. I am not ten." Nayara said to her.

"Well let's go." Selina said to her. Nayara nodded at Alfred and went to get her things. However, Alfred was unsure of letting her go with Selina. But Nayara seemed to trust her, so he let her go.

. . .

Nayara got quiet as she watched Selina Kyle park opposite to a old building. "Is Bruce alright?" Nayara asked her, confused why she will be here.

"He will be soon enough." Selina answered her. Nayara whipped her head towards her. She frowned at the words.

"What on earth are you talking about?" Nayara asked her.

Selina looked at her apologetically. Then the door opened to reveal no other than Lex Luthor. Nayara kicked him in the gut and darted out of the door. But someone took a hold of her from behind.

CLICK!

Nayara froze when she felt the collar on her. She didn't even bother using her power knowing that it wouldn't work anymore. She was in big trouble. "I want to see you run for me now." Sharon voiced in her hear.

. . .

Alfred saw Damian and Bruce Wayne arrive at night, but knew something was wrong when he didn't spot Nayara at all. "Master Bruce, did Nayara ever arrived to where you were?" Alfred asked at him

"I thought she was going to stay here." Bruce said to him.

Damian frowned too. "If she intended to show up, she never did." Damian added.

"How long as she been gone, Alfred?" Bruce asked him.

"Six hours, she left with Miss Kyle." Alfred answered with dread in his voice. "She said you asked for her to pick up Nayara up and she went with her. She seemed to trust her, sir." Alfred added.

"Who is Miss Kyle?" Damian asked.

Bruce kept quiet and made his way to the Batcave. Placing an alert on all members of the Batfamily, he tried to look to track her. Nayara had gone missing and he was sure as hell was going to find her.

. . .

The rooftop was quiet, as Batman landed on it. He was looking for one person in particular who will help him find Nayara. All footage had been deleted, cameras off as if they knew they needed to cover their trail.

He stopped when he saw Catwoman land on the rooftop with so much grace. However he wasn't there to play games, a life was a stake. He had a feeling he was running against time.

"Selina, where is she?" Batman said, his voice deadly serious. Selina frowned at the tone, her smirk falling. "Where is the kid? I am not playing games." Batman told her.

Selina pulled away from his hold. "I saved your life." Selina told him, not looking into his eyes.

Bruce's fell a chill run down his spine. "What did you do?" He asked, his tone falling. However, Selina didn't replied. Bruce came closer to her once more.

The femme fatale turned to look at him in the eyes. "I ended the search. You are welcome. There was a search going out, for a girl named Nayara. One that could have ended in your death if I didn't intervene." Selina told him. She noticed the anger surging in his eyes.

"You picked her up..." Bruce started, looking for any lead to get Nayara back.

Selina didn't meet his eyes. "I am begging you. Where is she?" Bruce asked her, the desperation clear on his voice.

Selina bit her lips, thinking of Nayara's words....

"You know, I always admired Catwoman. She was smarter than everyone around her." Nayara said out loud to her.

"Why would you mention Catwoman?" Selina asked her curiously.

Nayara sent him a kind smile. "You got the same badass energy. Nobody else has it." Nayara admitted to her. Selina clenched her wheel, frowning at the words.

"You okay?" She asked, concern clear on her eyes.

Selina quickly hid it, sending her a smile. "I am fine." She said to her.

"Okay." Nayara replied, looking out the window......

Selina could still hear it, the words: I trust you. Bruce trusts you, and I trust him. Nayara had said those words to her.

"She is just a kid. You don't want that blood on your hands." Bruce told her, pleading with her. He had wasted hours, trying to track her. But Nayara had seemed to disappear.

Selina looked up to him, regret on her eyes. Bruce saw it on her face. "Selina...what did you do?" Bruce asked her.

"I gave her to Lex." She said to him. "He asked anyone to bring her in at any cost. Last time I saw him, Lex sold her to some blonde woman. Her eyes were worst than Jokers." Selina admitted to him.

She froze when she saw Bruce's reaction. It was as if he had seen a ghost. "Bruce..." She stepped to him, but he took one back. "Don't get into issues that don't concern you. I made you a favor." Selina told him.

Bruce didn't look at her, clenching his fist. He was running out of time. Selina tried to approach him but he moved further away. "Don't come in my way." He said, his voice deadly.

Selina stood frozen in her spot, seeing him run away.

. . .

Sharon kicked her on the stomach once more. "This is so much fun." Sharon said, smirking at the sight. She tapped Nayara's neck bracelet with a smirk. "But we are about to begin.." She said, dragging her by the hair across the floor.

Nayara yelled at the pain, trying to get away but falling. Sharon strapped her against a chair, forcing her to look at the screen. "It's time you knew the truth." Sharon said to her, pressing play at the projection.

Nayara stopped when she heard Steve's voice. "It's your fault." Sharon said, before turning her eyes to the screen. Nayara could see the video through her bloodied face.

She tried to look away when she saw what the video was. She had read it once, and it gave her nightmares. Sharon pulled her to watch her screen again.

Bang!

Nayara cried out, watching Steve fall to the floor. She screamed at the top of her lugs, the pain inside her being unbearable.

. . .

It had been over ten hours since she had gone missing and there was no sign of her. She had become a ghost and not on purpose. Batman took careful steps retracing every single possibility but no answers. Lex Luthor was by himself when he went to question him, like nothing had happened, which meant that Sharon Carter had her.

It was a question for how long.

"There is no sign of her in Central City and National City." Nightwing informed Batman. "You don't think Sharon got her, right?" Nightwing asked.

"Search again." Batman said to him.

"I might have a lead." Nightwing told him, thinking of the only person who might know where she is.

. . .

Huntress turned around and shot an arrow behind her, but was avoided by a shadow. She took another aim but before she could shoot something shot towards her and she ducked. There was smoke everywhere, but she knew her way around it.

Under the mask Helena Wayne knew this was a signature move from Batman himself but whoever was fighting her was more flexible. Finally she lost her footing and two escrima sticks with electricity on them came to view.

"Where is she?" Nightwing said to her, in a voice she never registered before.

"Where is who?" Huntress said to him with bitterness.

"Helena you know who. I am not going to play any games." Nightwing said to her.

Huntress froze for a second, before remembering that she too was named Helena Wayne. "I don't know what you are talking about. Nightwing." Huntress said to him.

"Where is Nayara?" Nightwing asked with worse tone.

Now it was her time to be confused. "I don't know. I don't have a tracker on her. We don't talk that much." Huntress said to him. But she knew of Lex Luthor and Illusion, two of whom wanted Nayara alive very much. "Look you are looking for the wrong person. You might want to focus on Illusion or Lex, but not me." Huntress said to him.

"What guarantees me you didn't set her up?" Nightwing asked her.

"Because that is not what allies do. She is my ally." Huntress said to him. "Now, how long as she been missing? I might be able to help out." Huntress added.

Nightwing weighted his options, and they were slim. But he knew that if Nayara could be found, he needed to do so.

. . .

Batman arrived at Star Labs in Central City, where Flash was. He had raided the warehouse with Kid Flash and looked at every possible lead but nothing. Batman needed more information on who this person was, and his only lead was Flash.

He had even asked Superman for help but the trail had gone cold.

Flash looked at the computer screen with Cisco. "Nothing yet?" He anxiously said. Cisco stopped at the sight of Batman. "Has Superman gotten a lead?" He asked.

"She is not with Luthor. She is already with Sharon. What do you know of her?" Batman said to him.

Flash put a hand on his face while Cisco watched Batman worriedly. "She is a spy. She was formally Steve's partner until they broke it off. I think it had to do with Nayara, she tends..." Flash stopped looking at Cisco. "Can you give us a second, Cisco?" Flash asked him.

Cisco nodded at him and left quickly, wondering what secret was about to come out.

"She is not from here, Batman. Sharon isn't neither, she is from the universe me and Kara got straggled in. Where Captain Steve Rogers was from. Nayara was sent here by her adoptive mother because a war was happening mutants against non-mutants and she will be dragged in the middle of it because of her connections to Rogers." Flash explained to him.

"What does Sharon really want her?" Batman asked him.

Flash sighed ahead. "Nayara find out she was a mole and told Steve. She knows stuff even I don't know about that universe and this. That's how she knew about Sharon before anyone else." Flash said to him.

Sharon wanted revenge but most importantly she wanted Nayara's life in her own hands. All to do whatever she pleased with it.

"Cisco has been thinking and the only reason why we might not be able to find her will be someone might be jamming the location. It might be why we can't seem to find her anywhere." Flash told him.

"We go dark. Alert everyone." Batman said to him.

"Destroy an entire mainframe?" Flash asked him.

"It will be enough to narrow down the location of the jammer. Is everything is dark it will be the only thing that stands out. We can reverse engineer the location from there." Batman reminded him.

"Let's hope it works." Flash said, taking a glimpse of a picture of her and Nayara.

. . .

The old tower that laid at the edge of a mountain was new. Lightning strike the sky, lighting up the whole sky. Batman maneuvered the Batplane as Nightwing stared at the old tower, then at the lake below.

"You stay in the shadows, take Nayara out." Batman said to Nightwing. Nightwing nodded at him. "I have Kid Flash on stand by." Batman added.

"But she can't know we are here. That we finally tracked her." Nightwing said to him.

. . .

The halls were quiet as both Nightwing and Batman split on their own path. However there was light in the room ahead.

Batman dropped, seeing Nayara laying on the floor. Her face was pale. "Hey..." He said to her, helping her seat up.

Nayara looked up at him. However, she couldn't dare herself to speak. She was tired. Tired of feeling. "Bruce..." It came out as a whisper.

Batman began to pick her up when he was kicked to the side. Sharon stood eyeing him up. "You can't steal her away." Sharon said, curiously at her new opponent.

Panic fell on Nayara, seeing Sharon approach Batman. "Please..just don't...please. You have me. You have me!" Nayara pleaded from the floor. She couldn't endure another death. Especially not Bruce's.

Sharon smirked at the brunette before pulling her own remote control. Nayara body shook as the electricity ran through her. "I wouldn't move." Sharon said to him, showing him the control.

Nayara whispered in pain, tears falling down her face. "Leave me. Please..." Nayara pleaded from the floor. Sharon dug her heel against her back, causing her to yell again.

"I thought we were alone." Sharon said to Bruce, taunting him.

Batman didn't reply to her. He looked towards Nayara who was pleading him to leave. There were tears streaming down her eyes. "Leave him alone, please." Nayara begged Sharon. She never thought she will resource to it, but her options were gone.

Nayara then saw a shadow drop behind her to approach but an alarm was triggered. The brunette recognized Nightwing and her heart sank.

In a matter of seconds the entire room was filled with guns aimed at him while Batman calculated his next move. "Don't move." Nightwing mouthed to her.

Nightwing fought off with his escrima sticks as Nayara just watched in panic. Before someone could shoot him, an purple arrow shot from a distance. Nightwing recognized who had been the shooter and he was surprised that they had come.

Nayara struggled, too weak and watched in horror. A set of arms around her to help her up. Nayara was surprised to see Huntress. "You need to get Bats and Nightwing out of here." Nayara whispered to her.

"What about a hello?" Helena said to her.

"Hi. What you even doing here?" Nayara whispered to her, her voice too weak. Helena tried removing the collar only it wouldn't budge.

"Nightwing told me you were in trouble. Came to pay a debt." Helena Wayne said to her.

ZAP!

Nayara let out a scream, holding her throat. "TT, we aren't playing fair are we? You are new." Sharon said to her. "Anyone that moves, I will zap her again." Sharon again.

Everyone froze, but as Sharon was distracted. Huntress shot an arrow to her hand, pulling the control out of her grasp.

Nayara felt limp against the floor. Helena took cover when Sharon pulled a gun towards her and shot. Batman fought Sharon Carter while Nightwing looked back at Nayara.

Nayara froze when Sharon stood from the ground, ready to tackle Batman into the ground. She knew that smile. "Well played, Batman. It has been a while since I held my ground against such opponent. Normally they died in minutes. Ask old Captain Rogers, right Nayara?" Sharon said taunting her.

ZAP!

Nayara led out a scream as she held her neck. She felt something burning her insides, weakening every second. The pain taking over her vision as she crumbled to the ground.

"Say goodbye old Bats." Sharon said to him before she pressed another bottom just as he turned to Nayara.

BANG!

Nayara felt the floor gave under her and she closed her eyes. The water engulfing her in a matter of seconds. The world fading before her eyes.

Nightwing jumped into the water. He tried reaching out for Nayara, but he struggled as she sunk deeper into the water. He was expecting her to fight, use her power but even if she wanted she couldn't. The liquid that had entered her veins has weakened her.

Nightwing pushed more until he was able to get a hold of her before bringing her into the surface. She felt limp within her arms, her face broken and bruised. He sawn towards the shore quickly, his hold not wavering.

Nightwing held into the brunette. He pushed the hair off her face, hoping to see her move. Anything.

He set her down into the edge of the lake before starting compressions. He tried, tried, but nothing. Not even when Kid Flash asked him to stop, that Nayara was a lost cause; he couldn't stop.

"Come on." Richard said, continuing his CPR. "You don't get to go like this. Nay, please." He pleaded, his body getting tired of his efforts.

Kid Flash stood on his side, watching his friend cried. Batman's voice could hear through the ear comms. "Dick..." He began but this forced him to keep going even more.

"I need confirmation. Anyone." Batman yelled through the ear comms.

Kid Flash frowned, pressing his ear to the ear comm. "Denied. She is gone." Kid Flash said with difficulty.

Nightwing stop pressing, his arms giving away. "You got to let her go." Kid Flash told him. Nightwing shook his head, letting his tears fall down his face.

Dick...

Nightwing stopped, when heard Nayara coughed. He sat her up against his arms. "Dick..." She mumbled, looking at his masked face. Nightwing let out a relief laugh, looking down at her.

"You okay." Nightwing said to her, but it was more to himself. Nayara frowned, her eyes closing once more. The severity of her wounds endured on the past couple of days were too much. "Nay, look at me. I am here. I am here." He repeated to her. "It's okay. I promise." He reassured her before pulling her up.

"I am sorry." Nayara mumbled weakly. He shook his head, reassuring her. Mustering all the force she could, she smile at him.

Batman stopped when he saw Nightwing approaching the bat plane. He pressed a blanket around Nayara's weaken body. "It's okay." Nightwing whispered to her. Nayara closed her, realizing she was safe. Most importantly, she wasn't alone.
