67 | THE KIND OF LOVE THAT NEVER ENDS
SHE HAD FINALLY found it. The apartment that she needed right there in Central City. She had yet to tell Barry about it, but she knew this was the first step she needed to take to convince Sharon to exit her hide out. This time, she will be ready for her.
Nayara looked at the real state woman with a small smile. "I like it." She said looking at the apartment. The brunette looked at the humble apartment, watching the windows that were there. She quietly walked to the bedroom.
"So, what do you think? I mean, this things tend to go out quite quickly." The woman said to her. Nayara looked at her over her shoulder. "There is the train station near and everything." She added.
Nayara looked at the view of the opposite apartment across the street. "What about the parking?" Nayara asked her.
"Well, it is a shared parking downstairs. But if you have guest I will recommend some parking lots a couple blocks from here." The woman said to her.
Nayara nodded at her as she thought in what she could do to make the apartment safer. "I will take it." Nayara told her. The woman nodded at her. The brunette waited as the woman took out the paper work. She never thought she will find her own apartment by herself. She thought Emma would have helped her, or even her own mother. But times change.
Iris would have been more than happy to help her, but still she didn't want to bother her too much. Especially now that she was organizing Barry's wedding. Nayara didn't want to bother them even more.
Bing!
Nayara looked down at her phone, seeing Iris' text: dress fitting appointment. Nayara sighed, knowing she was probably going to be late for it. She texted a quick reply to Iris, before turning to the other woman. Nayara finished the procedure and with a proud look she took the keys to her own apartment.
For two months she had quietly planned this. Looking for new place took time, especially when now she was preparing to face Sharon. Two months had passed since she had been in the Kent Farm. Two months were she had trained herself day after day, focusing on how she will end Sharon's reign once and for all. It was her responsibility to do it. Whatever the cost.
However, this also meant that she had reframed herself from anything else. Training day and night. It did not went unseen by Barry Allen at all. He had never seen her train this much. He knew that training work, but there was also the need the balance of normal life. If not, you will loose yourself behind the mask.
Peter watched from a distance how Nayara had grew even more quite than usual, but the bangs under her eyes never stopped appearing. Sharon, Illusion and the fate of both worlds was taking a toll and her. He could see that, but once again Nayara was pulling back. This time he will not stop, he will remain by her side remaining her every single day that he was there to help her.
Nayara draw back also got him worried. Last time she had done it was to keep her origins from him because she didn't want to ruin the balance of their world. However, Nayara needed to learn that sometimes help is needed, even if she didn't believe it herself. She wanted to keep everyone at bay, not wanting to put anyone in danger. Little did she know that the people who were around her cared for her and that no hero ever got out anything from pushing people away.
. . .
Nayara parked her motorcycle at the curb right in front of the shop. The brunette took out her helmet, while looking at the address Iris had sent her. It felt nice to go and help Iris dress shopping. Little did she know that it was also her time to try on some dresses herself.
The brunette entered the shop, and followed the woman to where Iris was. Iris brought Nayara into a huge hug. "I am glad you're here." Iris said to her. Nayara smiled back at her.
"So, what can I do to help?" Nayara asked her, looking at the different dresses that Iris had selected to try on. Her eyes missing the bridesmaids that were on the side.
"Well, I need your opinion on these two." Iris said to her.
Nayara looked up to the two dresses that a woman was holding. "It's your wedding Iris." Nayara told her.
Iris sighed turning to the brunette. "I know. I am debating which one." Iris said to her. Then she pointed at the woman holding the dresses. "Nayara this is Linda Park. Linda this is Barry's friend, Nayara Lilly." Iris said to them.
Nayara walked to Linda and shook her hand. "She had been trying this two for a while now." Linda informed her.
Nayara smiled back at her. "Well, then let's see both of them again." Nayara said to them. Linda passed one to Iris and she left to try it on. "I hope I didn't missed much." Nayara told her.
"Not really. We are just getting starting." Linda told her. "Iris was dying for you to be here for the bridesmaids dresses." Linda informed her.
Nayara seemed slightly confused. "I could maybe put my input on it." Nayara said to her.
Linda let out a small laugh. "She didn't tell you did she?" Linda asked her. Nayara looked at her confused. "You are here to try them on." Linda told her. Nayara was in shock. She had no idea that she was going to be the bridesmaids.
. . .
Splash!
Nayara smiled under the water. Around her head, there was a bubble of water, allowing her to breath under water. She had been able to learn this from Mera, who had stayed around Central City with the sole purpose of helping her become the hero she was destined to be.
Mera swan next to hear, seeing the girl laugh at how she was able to now breath under water. Then swam further down, where she created a dry space at the bottom. Nayara swam towards it. The brunette landed roughly on the dry floor. However the awe from her eyes never faded. Not especially now that she was able to see what Mera was doing.
Nayara let out a small laugh, looking up at the water above them. "How can you do that?" Nayara asked her. She was amazed when she saw a fish swim accidentally into the dry area. The young hero took it and threw it back to the water. "Eww." She said, looking at Mera.
Mera stood in the middle of the ground. "It almost the same process that you use to breath under water, but bigger." Mera said to her. Nayara turned to the red head. Her mind going to how this will be useful when fighting Sharon. She will be sending her into her own area. Her own territory where she had the upper hand.
Mera pointed at the top of the bubble. "You just have to keep your focus on it. If it breaks all the pressure of the water will come towards you." Mera informed her.
"Which means I am dead." Nayara said to her. Mera nodded at her. "How do you keep your mind on it?" Nayara asked her. Her eyes were draw to the top of the bubble.
Mera smiled at her. "You keep your mind centered." Mera told her. Then she moved her hand, and the bubble started to crash down. Nayara raised her hands, trying to focus on it but she had difficulty. Then she felt it, the hit of the water crashing against her.
Nayara moved her hands, trying to form the bubble but it was difficult. She needed to survive. She needed to defeat, Sharon. Mera stopped, using her powers to pull her out of the water. The red head landed gracefully in the top of the harbor while Nayara crashed against it.
The brunette coughed up the water. Her mind raising at the what had happened. Mera stood next to her, watching her. "You have to keep your mind centered." Mera remained her.
Nayara coughed up more, her lungs burning. "I was focused." Nayara told her, looking up to her with an annoyed look. The brunette stood up with difficulty and ignored her. She turned to Mera, her fist clenching. "I think I am done for the day." Nayara said to her. The brunette took towards her motorcycle. She took the towel to remove the extra water. Without looking back at Mera she took off.
. . .
Nayara sighed, opening the door to the Allen's apartment. She made for a beeline towards the bathroom, her mind going back to Mera's advice: stay focus. Hell, she had been focused since this all started. Her mind had been focused on Sharon non-stop. What more did she want?
After the quick shower, she went back to her room, ready to take a nap. However, she stopped hearing her name being called. The brunette turned to look behind her. A distant call was coming from the pink ring that was on her dresser.
Nayara took the ring and put inside one of the drawers, before smacking the drawer shot. She was tired, tired of hearing its call. The brunette closed her eyes, hearing the voice of Queen Sapphire: You have been chosen. You hold so much love. But will you be able to protect them all?
Nayara opened her eyes, her eyes drawn to the reflection of Steve's shield.
Knock! Knock!
Nayara looked up at the sound of the knocking. "Give me a minute." Nayara called out from the other side. The brunette quickly dressed up before opening the door to her room. She was met by Peter's eyes. "Hey, how did the interview go?" Nayara asked him curiously.
Peter smiled at her. "Good. It went well." Peter said to her. He then pulled out two paper bags from behind him. "I thought maybe we...could have dinner together." Peter added. He looked up to her tired eyes.
Nayara smiled back at him. "I like the idea." Nayara whispered to him. The brunette walked out of her bedroom and towards the living room.
. . .
The brunette sat next to Peter in the couch as they ate their takeout. One from her favorite places in Central City. Peter had gotten a job in Central City and Nayara was a bit unsure about it. Especially since she knew he will need to eventually return to his own world.
Nayara looked around the apartment in thought. "Why do you still want to be here?" Nayara said in thought.
Peter finished his bite before replying with a simple answer. "Because you are here." Peter said to her.
"But this isn't your world. Marvel is." Nayara pointed out.
"My world is where you are Nay." Peter replied.
The brunette sighed in thought. "It feels like you are stuck with me though. I can't leave while Sharon is still roaming around. Nobody is prepared enough to defeat her, not even me." Nayara said to him. "It is even my own fault. I was the one that found out she was the mole in SHIELD. Now, she is just..." Nayara said but Peter pulled her back, placing a hand over hers.
"It wasn't your fault what happened to Steve. You couldn't have known." Peter reminded her.
"But that's the thing, I had known. I knew it was going to happen. The only thing I asked for Steve was for him to be careful. But I can't personally can't blame the dead." Nayara said to him.
"No one blames the dead." Peter agreed with her. "When my uncle Ben died, I thought the world was going to collapse. I let the criminal go before he shot him." Peter said to her.
"It's different." Nayara said in thought.
"Is it though? We both lost family. You more than anything." Peter added.
Nayara sighed, placing her Thai food back on the coffee table. "It wasn't my choice neither. I still miss them, but sometimes it feels..." She stop at the thought. She missed her biological family, but these worlds were different from hers. Somehow, she started to feel at home at both. Which was a huge problem.
"It feels like you were meant to be here?" Peter finished for her. Even if he debated why she would continue staying in a brand new world like this one. It was new for him, but not for her.
"I wish...but yeah." Nayara said in thought. "The only problem is I messed up. I didn't want to get involved with SHIELD, the Avengers...the X-Men were fine but the others was too much." Nayara said in thought.
"Well, you are dating in Avenger." Peter pointed out proudly. This made her smile. "I doubt there are people who police this sort of stuff." Peter added.
"Well, but what about the Watch-" Nayara stopped herself. She thought of the Watcher, but doubted he even existed since she had never heard people mention him, and she knew too little of him.
"The what?" Peter asked his ex-girlfriend.
"Nothing." Nayara said in thought. "I have people to keep safe here. I can't fail again." Nayara said to him.
"You seemed too much at ease in this world." Peter said. "Who do you have to even look after, Barry and Kara can take care of herself." Peter added. Nayara got quiet thinking of Bruce, Nightwing and Wally.
"I knew this world as much as I knew yours." Nayara confessed to him. "I knew of a lot of people from this world. Only Kara and Barry know a limited amount about that. I will like to keep it that way." Nayara said to him.
Peter frowned hearing her worlds. "Is it better than ours?" Peter asked her.
"It depends on who you ask." Nayara pointed out. "But at least there isn't a war. Or it is a crime to be a mutant like me." Nayara said in thought. It plagued Peter seeing her connection to this world and part of him felt he was loosing her. Bitterness filled him a little bit.
"So in this universe, who did you love?" Peter asked her.
Nayara smiled at the thought. At all the heroes she had read about but some stood out more than others, especially the Batfamily who she had yet to meet completely. She silently wished she did one day.
"I liked a couple of heroes. But I haven't met some. My favorite is Batman, he is helping me now." Nayara said in thought. "I don't want to through this mess at him or others, even if Bats have managed more maniacs than one can count." Nayara added.
Peter mind thought of Nightwing, the hero who he had seemed at Nayara's apartment once. A bit of jealousy crept in, but he didn't voice it.
"You really need to go, you know that right? You got Aunt May and other loved ones." Nayara said to him. "There is always a balance, one that I have to keep. I promised myself I see to end Sharon's reign wherever that is. No matter the cost." Nayara said solemn.
"I will be with you every step of the way." Peter said, putting an arm around her shoulders. "That's what...that's what friends are for." Peter added, even if he didn't like much the new title.
. . .
The brunette said quietly in the middle of a park, with the Gotham skies ahead of her. She needed a clear head if she if she wanted to follow through with her plan. Wally had checked up on her but she warned him to be careful since the streets have been too quiet.
"You know for someone who loves this city, you seem a bit disappointed at the moment." Richard Grayson said to her, approaching with a cup of coffee.
Nayara smiled, not able to contain it when he was around. "Hey." Nayara said, accepting the cup. "How did you know where I was?" Nayara asked him, curious on why he would spend the time with her in the first place.
"Alfred mentioned you were back in town." Richard said to her, motioning to a seat next to her. She nodded at him, taking a sip of her drink. "I might have asked Wally what your preferred drink was." He admitted.
"Trying to impress me?" She joked, believing he was out of her league. If only she knew the truth.
"Maybe a little." He smoothly said, which made her smile even more.
The brunette wondered if she could ask him for advice. Fully knowing the extent of Nightwing's responsibilities. However, she didn't fully know where she stood and part of her didn't want to drag him down her own mess.
But if Bruce has trusted her, then what stopped her from trusting Nightwing. "Have you ever been about to make a decision that will either safe or break a world?" Nayara asked him.
Richard frowned, since he hadn't revealed his identity to her yet. Nayara saw the hesitation in his eyes and shrugged. "You know, forget it." She muttered, waiting for him to walk away, but he didn't.
"What could possibly be that serious?" He said to her curiously.
"I am in a bit of trouble. At a cross roads of sorts, and part of me knows the right decision. But it will involve loosing people I care about. But if I don't do something, a lot of people might get hurt." Nayara replied. "It just feels..." Nayara started but he finished it for her.
"The world is all on your shoulders." He pointed out to her. Nayara nodded at him.
He thought about Sharon, having gotten a glimpse of what was happening from Batman and his files. But he didn't knew the fully extend of the issue. "You just got to do the best thing you can at the moment. One can't predict the future." He said to her.
"What if you can?" Nayara said quietly in thought. But soon regretted it.
"Nobody can predict the future. It's a ever changing thing. Sure each decision leads you to something else. But you just got to trust it's the correct one with what you have at the moment." Richard answered. He knew of some who knew who could predict, still got it wrong. "And well can you, predict the future?" Richard asked her curiously.
Nayara shrugged. "I guess not." She lied, and heard a ping on her phone. It was a news about the League of Shadows in Gotham. She frowned even more. "Great, as things couldn't get worse." She said bitterly, wondering if Sharon had gotten a hold of them.
"What is it?" Richard asked her.
"Bitter news. Hero stuff." Nayara said teasing him. Richard raised an eyebrow. She saw the hesitation in her eyes, but she couldn't reveal she knew his identity. It will raise a lot of questions. Not that she minded this clever game they seemed to play. "League of Shadows, I worry I about them. They are the worst of the worst." Nayara whispered to him.
Now this sparked his curiosity. How on earth did she knew about them. But he doubted she was one of them. He had encountered them and knew she was nothing like the assassin league.
"I haven't heard of them." Richard quietly said to her. "Are you in trouble with them?" He asked, not able to stop the question before it left his lips.
"Not that I know of. Hopefully it stays that way." Nayara said to him.
. . .
Richard was kind enough to ride back with her to Wayne Manor. The brunette's head was much clearer and she thought about what she was going to do with Peter.
The bat cave was mostly quiet with the exception of Bruce who was typing away at the computer.
"Can I crash here tonight?" Nayara asked, approaching her hero. Who just send her a blank look and she nodded knowingly. "I think I figured out a way to defeat Sharon, but it's a bit complicated. It will mean going back to where it all started." Nayara said to him.
She had made her decision. She will go back to the Marvel world, get answers and come back. In the process she will leave Peter behind, safely away from Sharon's grasp even if it pained her.
