59 | DECISIONS OF THE HEART

NAYARA'S HAND SHOOK as she sat quietly on the back of the ambulance. The girl was always looking over her shoulder for the men who tried to get her. When HYDRA attacked her, it was different, she was with Steve and even if she was not she still could have fought them. In this case she couldn't. They were better trained than HYDRA and by the looks of it they came to kill.

Nayara's eyes landed on the bodies of the men in the lobby. They were being carried out by other officers. The girl then turned to the man with a mustache who was coming her way. The girl held tightly to her sweater as she kept her eyes on the man she knew very well, but was unable to recognize. "I'm Commissioner Gordon." The man said to Nayara. At hearing the name, Nayara relaxed knowing that the man standing in front of her could be trusted.

"Hello." Nayara said, looking at him with a small smile.

"I'm here to ask you some questions if that's alright." Gordon told her. Nayara nodded at him. "Did you recognize the men?" Gordon asked her.

"No. They were wearing masks." Nayara said to him. Then she spotted a set of black hair and blue eyes coming her way. "And I don't know anybody who could have a grudge against me, nor anybody I know. I just came here in Gotham to visit." Nayara added.

"Gotham to visit?" Gordon asked her. It was not a city that anybody would want to visit unless they had families there. "Anybody in particular you came to visit?" Gordon asked her.

"No. I just came to get to know the city. I heard it has a handful of cool heroes." Nayara answered him. The brunette gave him a weak smile.

The man sadly returned it. "And villains too sadly. This is not a city a young girl by herself should be at. It's dangerous." Gordon warned her. The young girl reminded him of his own daughter.

"I arrived earlier to the hotel. You know, before the sun fell down for that reason." Nayara added. Gordon nodded at her. "I guess I'm getting the full Gotham experience." Nayara joked. Gordon sent her a small smile, shaking his head. "I sometimes tend to crack up jokes in very stressful situations. You can't be afraid when you laugh, or even stressed." Nayara explained to him.

"Have you called your family?" Gordon asked her. Nayara nodded at him. A few minutes ago, she had called Barry, telling him that she was fine and that he should not worry. Mainly because she didn't want him to arrive suddenly, which would be weird. Plus, it will draw too much unwanted attention. It will be a coincidence that Central City's hero will suddenly show up when a situation like this happened in Gotham.

"How many people were hurt?" Nayara asked Gordon. The man did not answer, knowing that it will not help the situation.

"Not many." Gordon lied to her. Nayara knew that was a lie, but decided to let it go. She knew Gordon had lied just to ease the girl's worries.

"Commissioner Gordon, someone is on the phone. It's urgent." An officer said to him. Gordon gave the girl one's last nod before leaving.

Richard approached her quietly, taking a seat next to her. "Alfred is on his way here." Richard told her. "Bruce said you will be safer at home back in Wayne Manor. It's less of a public place like this." Richard explained.

"I can't put that burden on you guys, look what they did to the people here." Nayara said, nodding towards the dead bodies. "I think they were being led by somebody." Nayara whispered to him.

"Why?" Richard asked her.

"Because when one of them tried to shoot me, another one said that their boss wanted me alive." Nayara whispered to him. "Where's Bruce?" Nayara whispered, knowing that Bruce should have been done fighting crime by now.

"He is on his way here right now." Richard answered her. "Hey, I will wait with you until Alfred comes." Richard told her.

"Thank you." Nayara said, giving him a small smile. Richard gladly returned it.

. . .

Nayara sat quietly on the kitchen while Alfred made her some tea. "Thank you, Alfred." Nayara said, giving the man a small smile.

"Your room is ready if you need any sleep." Alfred told Nayara. "I will bring some ice for your face, Miss Lilly." Alfred added. Nayara smiled at him as she watched him go. All her life she had known the butler who raised Bruce after he lost his parents, and it was safe to say that she loved talking to him. He raised the good man that Bruce was.

Bruce came inside the kitchen, watching Richard and Nayara who sat next to each other. Richard hadn't left Nayara's side and tried to charm her. Which worked because the brunette was smiling in no time.

Bruce walked up to the fridge and bought up some ice cream. He placed three cups, three spoons and the ice cream on top of the table in front of the two young adults. Nayara smiled brightly at him, knowing it was his attempt to cheer her up. She accepted the cup of ice cream he had served for her.

"Thank you for coming." Nayara said to Bruce. Nayara was about to thank him more, when the three of them heard the doorbell.

Ding Dong!

Nayara froze on her seat, thinking it might be the men who looked for her at the hotel. "Stay here with her." Bruce told Richard before he left.

Bruce walked quickly to the door. When he opened it, he saw no other than a concerned Barry Allen. "She is safe. She is inside." Bruce told Barry, knowing the reason why he was here. Bruce walked Barry to the kitchen.

When Nayara saw Barry, ran up to him and bought him into a tight hug. "I'm sorry, if I scared you." Nayara told Barry. Barry let a breath he had been holding. He pulled away, checking Nayara for any damage.

"Was your nose bleeding?" Barry asked, noticing some red dots left under Nayara's nose.

"It was just a bad hit. I'm okay though." Nayara reassured Barry. "I'm sorry I scared you. I'm fine. It was just some men who attacked the hotel." Nayara said to Barry.

Bruce sent a look to Richard, quietly telling him that the two of them should leave to let the two friends have some privacy.

Barry looked at her with a tired and angry look. "You left for Gotham without telling me, without telling anyone. What would have happened if you have gotten hurt? I heard gun shots, and while I tried to locate your phone you were being attacked. You have to tell me where you are, because I worry about you. What if something happened? I would never know until too late. You got to promise me that you will tell me where you go next time." Barry told her. Nayara nodded at him.

"I promise." Nayara said to him. She said him another smile, and raised her pinkie. Barry sighed, connecting his with her.

"Why Gotham?" Barry asked her.

"I just.... needed a reminder of home. Not that you and Iris aren't my home or anything.... I just needed a reminder of my previous home, you know.... where I grew up." Nayara answered. "Barry, I needed to make a decision about Peter and about everything else and I guess I just needed to go back a little bit just to see my past. Maybe that will help me." Nayara explained.

"A decision about what?" Barry asked her.

"A decision about Peter. When he arrived...it threw me off guard and I might have found a way to send him back.... but I don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye. I mean, if I cross to there that will mean I will have to face Steve's death and a whole new world where I can't use my powers...and I need to talk to Peter about that kiss." Nayara explained to him.

Barry sighed, looking at her. "Why did you called me telling me you where okay? You told me to not come." Barry said to her.

The brunette looked at him with concerned eyes. "Because it would have been dangerous for you. I mean.... clearly, I am being hunted down. Plus, it will be seeming awfully suspicious if suddenly Flash showed up in town when none of his nemesis are here in Gotham." Nayara explained to him. "And don't worry, I will take the first plane tomorrow morning. Bruce convinced me to stay here for the night. He said it will be safer." Nayara added.

Barry sighed, looking at her. "I have to talk to Bruce for a few minutes, okay?" Barry said to her. Nayara nodded at him.

"Alright." Nayara said before sending him a giant smile. She went back to her seat, ready to eat the ice-cream that Bruce had given her. As in on queue, Richard walked right back in, taking his spot next to Nayara. Barry raise an eyebrow at how close her was with her. But his mind went back to the issue at him.

He walked out of the kitchen and approved Bruce.

Richard clicked his spoon with her. Nayara smiled at him, and the two play-fought with their spoons as if they were swords. "So, you are leaving tonight? Because.... I don't know I can show you around. Gotham has nice places believe it or not." Richard said to her as she hit defeated him again.

"I will be leaving tomorrow." Nayara told Richard.

"What about after tomorrow?" Richard asked her. Nayara looked at him curiously. She knew the look he held, one that said he was trying to lead her into something; something she didn't knew.

"I don't want to bother Bruce." Nayara replied.

"He likes visits. We don't get them that often." Richard whispered to her. Nayara let out a small laugh. "So, you think you can spare a night so I can take you out for dinner and show you around Gotham?" Richard asked her.

Nayara smiled at him. "Maybe another time. That sounds like an amazing offer, but right now I have a feeling that people are looking after me and I don't want to put you in danger. You are too much of a nice company to lose." Nayara confessed to him. Richard leant on the table and gave him a giant smile.

"I will be waiting." Richard told her before taking a bite of his. Nayara shared a comfortable smile with him.

Meanwhile in the other room, Bruce and Barry were having a more serious conversation. Bruce looked at Barry with a knowing look. "The men who attacked her went there just for her. It was an extract mission." Bruce informed Barry.

Barry took a seat in the couch. "Did you saw who was looking for her?" Barry asked him.

"No. I tracked them down though. I just wanted to make sure she arrived safely in Wayne Manor. She will be safer here than there." Bruce answered.

"She said she thinks she is being hunted down." Barry told Bruce.

"For a good reason. Those men who were there were professionals. There were highly trained and they weapons were military based." Bruce said to Barry. He looked back at the kitchen, where Nayara was eating her ice cream. Richard was already pulling the chocolate chips out for her along with the chocolate syrup as well. He held back a chuckle, watching Nayara order Richard to the one she wanted.

Then he looked back at Barry. "Richard told me that she thinks they were looking for her because one of the agents said that their boss wanted her alive." Bruce informed Barry.

Barry froze. It was too much of a coincidence that Sharon's escape was the moment that Nayara was targeted. "It's not your fault." Bruce said to Barry, knowing the look he had on his face all too well.

"Sometimes I think it is." Barry sadly said to him.

. . .

Nayara arrived at Star Labs with Barry. "Is he still inside?" Nayara asked him. Barry nodded at her, standing next to her. Nayara looked at Barry with a somewhat scared face. "You know how do you know you are doing the right decision?" Nayara asked him.

"It's just trial and error." Barry answered. Barry walked her to where he knew Peter was working with Cisco. "You know I will support you no matter what." Barry added, looking at Nayara.

"I know. That's why I love you." Nayara said, smiling at him. "I just want Peter to be happy. I should have never stepped over the line of friendship, even if I was dying to. MJ is the love of his life in the comics and I knew this but I still just...went for it." Nayara mentioned to Barry.

"You know, I also had a nice lady talk with Kara and Iris...that also helped." Nayara added. Barry smiled at her. "I'm really excited for the wedding." Nayara said to him as she walked to the door.

"Will you stay for it?" Barry asked her.

"Only if I'm allowed." Nayara joked.

Barry shook his head. "Please, Nayara. I will love for you to be there. You will be the first person on the list. Plus, I know how excited you are for it. Come on be honest..." Barry said giving a look to Nayara. The brunette cracked up, and gave him a toothy smile.

Nayara sighed, her face slowly transforming into one of pure joy. "It's an event of a lifetime. I wasn't going to miss it. I'm pretty excited for it." Nayara confessed.

Then she turned to the door that led to her future. Her face turning into was of pure worry. "I will right behind this door." Barry whispered to her.

Nayara smiled at him before opening the door. She had made her decision, and once more she had put other people before her. This time it was Peter's happiness, or at least that was what she thought.

"Nayara, welcome back!" Cisco told her, sending the brunette a small smile. "Oh, I have some great things to tell you. I have upgraded your suit. I know you don't use it, but when the time comes you don't have to go out there and fight crime like a newbie." Cisco explained to her.

"Thanks, Cisco." Nayara said, smiling at him. "Umm...Peter can I talk to you alone?" Nayara asked him. Cisco looked between the two and realized that this will be a talk that he wasn't invited to so he decided to leave the room.

Peter sent her a smile. "Hey, are you okay? I mean, you left without saying goodbye. I guess I will have get used to it by now." Peter said to her.

Nayara sighed, taking a seat on one of the chairs in the room. "You know I love you, right?" Nayara asked him. Peter walked up to her as he nodded. "I love you so much. You have no idea how it pained me to leave. I love you, Peter." Nayara said, looking at him.

Peter looked down at her, with a shy smile. He was still getting used to Nayara just reminding him how much she loved him. "I love you too. More than you know." Peter told her. He walked up to a chair and moved it so it was sitting right next to her. "Is something wrong? You have been thinking a lot. I know this because you have been quieter than usual." Peter said to her.

"Yeah, a lot has happened since we last met." Nayara told him with a tired look.

Peter looked at her brown eyes, searching for what could cause such sorrow and worry in the girl's eyes. "You found somebody else while here, didn't you?" Peter asked her.

Nayara shook her head. "No, Peter. There is nobody else like you." Nayara answered.

She took a hold of his hand. "I already knew about how an amazing person you were before we met. Being your friend and getting to know you...being with you made me fall in love with you so much more...." Nayara stopped, thinking of her words carefully. "Peter....I just....I know you love somebody else and that is alright. The last thing I will want to do is steal your happiness away from you." Nayara whispered to him.

Peter frowned at her. "I don't get it." Peter told her. He did not love anybody else other than Nayara.

"Portals opened in Manhattan previously in your world before you came here. People started to disappear, one of them being Tony. He landed here and I made sure that he returned safely along with Bruce Banner. I was the one who dropped them off." Nayara said to Peter. "I came back just briefly to make sure everyone arrived safely. I thought....I....I thought that it will be okay to pass by and check-in on you. I wanted to make sure that you were alright." Nayara added.

Peter drew his hand away from her. "Why didn't you say anything?" Peter asked her.

She thought of her next words carefully. "I was going to but, I didn't want you to get in trouble. I mean Carol and Tony where at your home asking for me." Nayara said to him. A look of recognition passed Peter's face. "Then you left and I was waiting to approach you but then I saw you and MJ." Nayara continued.

Peter looked at her with wide eyes. "You were the girl with the blue mask." Peter told her. Nayara gave him a sad smile. "I pushed her away. I swear. I would never cheat. I swear it." Peter said to her in a rushed tone. The last thing he wanted was for her to believe that. "I didn't fell for somebody else. I love you and you alone, Nayara. You are my world." Peter told her.

Nayara tried to maintain her blank stare. "Peter, I....You think that now, but deep down I know that MJ is the one for you. She is your true love and your happy ending. I should have never gotten in the middle of it. I know that you don't understand it now, but in the future you will." Nayara said him with tearful eyes. "I love you too much to get in the way of your happiness. MJ is the one you will marry and have a bright future. I'm just a ripple in the timeline." Nayara explained to him.

Peter sighed, looking at her. "I love you. You alone. I don't love MJ. I don't want a future with her. I want my future with you." Peter confessed to her. Nayara brushed the hair off his face.

Nayara's eyes started to water. "I love you so much, but you can't let me stop you from having the future you are destained to have. This is above any of us. I don't control it, nor you....but all I can do is try to lead you into the path you deserve. You have such a bright future, one that I wish I was a part on with all my will. I love you and I will do anything for you to be happy, and to protect you, even if it tears me apart." Nayara said to him.

She took deep breath, contain her shaky voice. "When you love somebody, you want what is best for them. Loosing you is something that makes me want to tear my heart out so that the pain would stop. Alas, we all have to make sacrifices for the ones we love." Nayara explained to him.

Peter stood up from the chair. "I wouldn't have jumped into a portal for you if I didn't love you." Peter told her. "I wouldn't have fought on Steve's side if I didn't want you to be safe back in our world." Peter added. "I don't love MJ. I don't care what you know or what you might think that might happen just because you read it somewhere or you think it is true. You can't know the future. Maybe with you in it is different." Peter tried to argue.

Nayara looked down at the floor. "I found a way to bring you back to your world. So, you don't have to worry about that anymore." Nayara said, standing up from the chair. Peter walked closer to her, but Nayara took a step back. "I left because I promised Emma I will stay out of Steve's way. I knew how the war will end, and it ended just like I thought it would. When I saw you kiss MJ it reminded me....it doesn't matter. I'm not mad. I'm not mad at all." Nayara tried to explain Peter. Nayara tried to hide the tears that started to fall down her face. "I love you, I always did and I always will." Nayara whispered to him before she let the room with tears in her eyes.

Barry looked at her as she quietly let the tears fall. "Take me home, please." Nayara whispered to Barry. Barry nodded, understanding her. He took a good hold of her before running to the apartment.

Peter sighed, taking a seat back on the floor. He shook his head as he silently replayed Nayara's words back into his mind. The woman he loved believed he will have his happy ending with MJ when in fact all the only one he loved and will always love will be Nayara.

. . .

Iris sat quietly with Barry on the couch. "She hasn't come out of her room." Iris pointed out. Barry was deep in thought and did not heard Iris' words. Instead, he was thinking of how to keep Nayara safe. If she was attacked in Gotham by trained men then somebody was looking for her and something told him that it had to be Sharon. "Barry," Iris called out, tapping his shoulder.

The speedster turned to look at her. "What did you say?" Barry asked her.

Iris sighed, looking at him. "Barry, I said that she hasn't come out of her room. Maybe you should talk to her." Iris told him. "What is really bothering you? It is not her breaking up with Peter, so what is it?" Iris asked him.

"Before Sharon escaped she said she had made her allies. Then she does it and Nayara is attacked in Gotham. I don't know how to keep her safe anymore, Iris. This isn't just running around taking people away from danger or stopping a meta-human. This is somebody out there hunting down Nayara and they will do anything to get to her." Barry explained to Iris.

Iris looked at his fiancée with a small smile. "You aren't just the Flash, you are Barry. So if you can't solve it as the Flash, try solving it as Barry. I know you are the same person, but what if you aren't looking it in the Barry way. It just like solving a crime in a lab or getting evidence. The difference is that now, it is closer to home." Iris explained to Barry.

Iris slowly motioned him to stand up. "Now, get up and talk to her. I will go myself but we both know that she knows you more than she knows me and right now she needs you. Not as Flash or as an older brother but as a friend. Breakups are hard when you go through them alone." Iris added.

Barry stood up from the couch and walked to Nayara's bedroom. He knocked before entering. When he did all, he could hear was Nayara's sniffs. "Am I crying too loud?" The brunette asked.

Barry broke into a small smile. "No." Barry answered her. Nayara turned around, not wanting Barry to see her cry. Barry walked to her bed and sat next to her. "Your crying isn't a bother Nayara....and you aren't alone on this. You got me, Kara and even Iris right here for you. Hell, I think even Bruce will be right now too." Barry said to her.

"I don't want Batman see me cry because of a boy." Nayara told Barry. She began sobbing again. "I don't want to talk right now." She quickly added.

"Well, I will just seat here." Barry said, taking off his shoes. Put both of his feet on the bed, and moved so that he could lean against the bed frame.

She looked up to him with her tearful eyes. "I should have never taken that leap. I should have never gotten myself in the middle of his timeline. It would be hurting less." Nayara said to Barry as another set of tears fell down her face. "I just hope I made the right decision." Nayara whispered to him.

Barry patted her back as she cried. Nayara turned around, this time facing Barry. "Heartbreaks sucks." Nayara mumbled to her best friend. Barry nodded at her.

"Yeah, I know. I know." Barry told her, looking down at her. "But they are a part of life. Did I told you about how I broke up with Iris to protect her?" Barry asked Nayara.

Nayara looked up to him, shaking her head. "You know that never works." Nayara quietly mentioned. Barry held back a chuckle at her 'matter-of fact' tone she had taken. "Did it hurt?" Nayara asked him.

"Yeah, a lot." Barry said to her. Nayara let out a small sob. "You know, you aren't going alone through this. You aren't alone, period. You got me and Iris, and Kara....and Wally." Barry said in thought. Nayara smiled at Wally's name. "You got Cisco who has been dying for you to try on his new suit. He is very proud of it. He could even put it up in a frame if he could." Barry joked.

Nayara laughed, imagining Cisco's face and the situation Barry just described. "And you know, I might not be able to protect you from breakups, but....I promise you I will do my best to protect you from everything else." Barry added.

Nayara rested her head on his shoulder. "I don't want you to do, because you might get hurt. I don't want you to put yourself in a situation where you might not come back from. You got family and friends. What happens to me doesn't affect a thing." Nayara said to him.

Barry shrugged. "I am a superhero. I get hurt anyways." Barry told her. Barry used his sleeve to dry Nayara's tears. "And you are part of my family too so I think that means that you are in the same group of people that I have to protect." Barry joked. Nayara smiled at him before sniffing.

Iris walked to the door, and leant on the door frame as she watched the two friends talk. "I'm happy to be in that group, Barry." Nayara said to him.

"Well, you get rest. You have to help me pick the flowers tomorrow." Iris said, looking at Nayara. She could see the light coming back to her at the mention of the West-Allen wedding.

The brunette sent a smile to Iris. "I will love too. My OTP is getting married. I wouldn't miss that." Nayara said to both of them. Despite all the dangers in the world, she knew she would will be safe as long as Barry was there with her.

. . .

A/N: HELLO EVERYONE! I AM BACK AND READY TO SHARE WITH YOU MORE OF NAYARA'S STORY. EVEN IF I STEPPED AWAY FROM WATTPAD FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, I NEVER STOPPED WRITING ABOUT NAYARA, WHICH IS WHY I AM BACK WITH WONDERFUL CHAPTERS, LOTS OF ADVENTURES AND A SET OF ONE-SHOTS AND SHORTS TO SHARE WITH YOU WHILE WE CONTINUE NAYARA'S STORY....

I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I thought about MJ and the kiss with Peter, because I thought it will not only show Nayara's character with her reaction but also create tension in the story. I picked MJ because she is one - if not the one of the two - main love interest in the Spider-Man comics. You have Gwen Stacy, who was Peter's love before she died. There is also Black Cat aka Felicia Hardy, in some cases there is also Michelle Jones which in the comics I think it was a brief romance. Well, he has had a lot of romances.

I wanted to show Nayara's character through her reaction. Of course she was a little bit mad, lets be realistic we will all be mad if that happened to us. But that also appeared as a reminder that she is just - as she says - a rimple in the timeline. She is not from that world.

She loves Peter a lot, and so she believes that the best thing for him. She has read the comics and knows a lot about him so she just wants the best for him. Very early in the story she was hesitant to become friends with him because she did not want to get involved in his life and change the timeline, and that kiss really made her doubt her decision. When I mentioned her hesitation of Nayara getting involved with Peter it was not because she was scare to date him, or falling for him, or him not liking her. It was a much more bigger problem, which was that she did not want to change his 'fate'. She did not want to change the character's life and timeline. Which is why she is currently really stress to bring Peter back to his world and to solve the problem with Sharon. As always, she put somebody else's life above hers.

When Nayara arrived to this world, I wanted it to be realistic. I wanted to be realistic on all the emotions someone would feel if they were in a different world. Her knowledge is both a positive and a negative, which is something I established very early on in the story. Which is why I decided to do this between Nayara and Peter. She is conflicted between her love for Peter and leading him into the path he needs in the comics. She knows that him and MJ eventually marry on her comics. Her knowledge is useful but I also wanted it to be something that had its disadvantages. Her knowing about Peter and MJ future is one of them.
