57 | NIGHTMARES

NAYARA STOOD FROZEN inside the hug before quickly pulling away. Nayara put a hand on Peter's cheeks, not believing that the boy standing in front of her was real. Peter smiled at her before pulling her into a kiss. He had waited so long for it.

Barry's eyes widen when he saw Peter pulled Nayara into a small but passionate kiss. Nayara kiss him back, but it soon ended after the girl gained some of her senses back. Nayara took a few steps away from Peter. "What?" Nayara asked, looking at Peter. Nayara raised her hands, motioning Peter to stay where he was. She could not believe that the boy in front of her was her Peter. It was too good to be true. "What are you doing here? You can't be Peter." Nayara told, pointing at Peter. "Is this some joke?" Nayara asked Barry.

Barry raised his hands. "Don't look at me. I didn't do anything. I was trying to help some people when he used one of those webs of his." Barry told Nayara.

Nayara put both of her hands on her head as she paced around the room. The brunette walked slowly to Peter. "Who are you?" Nayara asked Peter. She could not believe who was standing in front of her.

Peter frowned, looking at her with a confused expression. "What do you mean who am I? You don't remember me?" Peter asked her.

Nayara pointed at him. "Who are you really? If Sharon sent you, I will recommend you pull out that mask or whatever is you are using to look like Spider-Man. I know a person who gladly pull information from you." Nayara said to Peter, already thinking of what to tell Bruce who she knew will help her out.

Peter raised his hands in defense. This was certainly not the reaction he was expecting. "Nay, come on. It's me. It's really me, Peter." Peter told her. The brunette's eyes watched him closely. "Look, it's really me. Okay?" Peter asked her, coming closer. Nayara took a few steps back, keeping the distance between them. "Hey, okay...ummm....I know where you really come from. I know that you have read about Captain Marvel, Supergirl and him back in your world." Peter said, pointing at Barry. "I know you lived with Emma, and that you keep a secret from everyone. Which is that you are not from where I am from nor from here. I know that you knew who I was because you read about me." Peter said, taking a step towards her. Nayara did not moved back. "The first time we met, you were about to call the cops because you thought I was not the real Spiderman." Peter said, taking more steps towards Nayara. Nayara looked at him, knowing that only Peter knew what had happened. "I also know that you came to me to say goodbye. I knew you had to go somewhere and you didn't tell me where....and I also know you are the woman I love." Peter said, finally standing right in front of Nayara.

Nayara looked at him with wide eyes before pulling him into a hug. Peter gladly hugged her back. Barry watched with a frown on his face at Peter who he knew had made Nayara cried indirectly before they left to go to Barry's world. "How did you end up here?" Nayara asked him quickly pulling away. Now that she realized that it was her own Peter standing in front of her, the questioning started.

Peter played with the Spider-Man mask on his hands. "Steve sent me to find you." Peter answered. A sad look crossed Nayara's face at the mention of her deceased mentor. "I have been looking for you since I came here. I was trying to stop a robbery when I saw Barry, and I knew that he might know where to find you." Peter told her.

"Since when have you been here?" Nayara asked him, looking his brown eyes.

"Probably a few days after the whole portal thing happened. Weeks maybe?" Peter told her. Nayara looked at him with wide eyes.

Nayara pointed at him. "Did you told Tony where you were going? Did you tell somebody where you went?" Nayara asked him, thinking of the disaster that could happen if he did. Peter shook his head.

"It was only between me and Steve." Peter told Nayara.

Nayara walked to a set of computers near the medical bed. "How did you even go past security? We need to level it up more, Barry." Nayara said, typing on her computer. Barry flashed next to Nayara. "Did you talk to Emma? I mean how else could have gotten here. She is the only one that knows where we are." Nayara said to Peter.

A look crossed Peter's face for a slight moment, but it was only Barry who noticed. Peter needed to tell Nayara something but looking how the girl was freaking out it seemed that right now it was not the time. "No. I talked to a guy named Theodore. He said that it must have been important." Peter answered.

Nayara froze on her seat before looking up at Peter. "Why would Steve wanted to find me?" Nayara asked him.

The former hero looked at his girlfriend. "Because he wanted me to give something." Peter answered.

Nayara took deep breath as she thought of the question she was dying to ask him. "Is Steve alive?" Nayara asked him. Maybe Sharon had been lying all along, maybe he was indeed alive. Peter's eyes could not meet Nayara. "Is Steve Grant Rogers alive?" Nayara asked, a little bit louder this time.

"Nayara..." Peter mumbled but he couldn't carry on. He did not know how to break the news to her. He knew how much Steve meant to her. Peter had seen with his own eyes how Steve had been murdered, but he could not stay there and help him. Steve had made him promise to find Nayara and protect her no matter what happened to him or everyone else around him. He had given him that mission. "I'm sorry. Nayara." Peter told her.

Nayara quickly stood up from the computers, knowing she needed some fresh air to calm herself down. She had somewhat hope for those few seconds that Steve was alive. She was regretting every minute of it. "Where have you been? Steve wouldn't tell me where you were. He said it was someplace safe." Peter said to her. The brunette put her hands over her head. "I also need to tell you something about-" Peter started but was cut off by Nayara walking off the room. This action shocked Peter, but not Barry who had seen the girl's face.

Nayara needed to think. There were too many questions in her head, too many possibilities and it felt like it was tearing her brain apart. How did Peter got there? What happened to Steve? How could she solve all this mess? And what will happened to Peter's live if he stayed here? She needed to calm down, and think; but seemed that Peter was not ready to let her go.

"Nayara, wait up." Peter called her. Nayara shook her head. "Nayara, will you just wait." Peter told her, running to catch up to her. "Nayara I have been waiting to find you." Peter called her. Nayara shook her head once more. "Nayara!" Peter yelled at her.

Nayara stopped, taking deep breath. "Why do you keep running away?" Peter asked her.

Nayara turned to face him. "I'm not running away. I'm trying to solve all this. You aren't supposed to be here. I don't have a way for you to go back. I don't even know how you got here." Nayara snapped at him. "I don't run away. I just need time to think on how am I going to get you back home. To your family and your friends." Nayara quickly added.

Peter sighed shaking his head. "What about you? It's your home too." Peter told her. "I am not planning to go without you." Peter told her.

Nayara gave him a sad smile. "But you are more important than me, Peter. You are Spider-Man, you are one of the most important people in your world even if you don't believe it. It will mess up an entire timeline even more so than I have already done." Nayara told Peter.

"Well, we will just open a portal and that's it." Peter said to her.

Nayara shook her head. "Is not that easy. That's not how it works. You need a machine for it. Barry and I took months to build one. Rebuilding one will take that long and possibly longer because Sharon destroyed everything on her path." Nayara said to him, but quickly stopped when something popped into her head. "Unless Emma figures out that something is wrong. She has to come back for me. I mean...I am only supposed to stay here until the war ended. If Steve is dead...there is no longer a war...I think." Nayara said, thinking of what this meant: saying goodbye.

Peter stiffen, feeling his Spidey senses tingle. Nayara looked him confused. "Is something wrong?" Nayara asked him. Just as she finished her sentenced Wally stopped right in front of Nayara on his Kid Flash costume. Peter pushed Nayara behind him quickly and shot some webs at Wally who was too confused on wondering what was happening that he did not see the webs.

"Hey!" Wally called out, seeing the sticky substance. Wally then narrowed his eyes at him, thinking that he had trapped him to take Nayara away. With everything that had happened recently, it was only understandable that he will think about it. "Don't you dare to touch her!" Wally screamed at him as he moved his hands quickly in an attempt to remove the webs.

Nayara was quick to act before a fight broke out. "Hey, both of you stop. Peter, don't use your webs on him. He isn't a threat." Nayara told him. She turned to Wally who was almost glued to the wall. "Oh, man. I need to get something to get you out. I will be back. You two better behave." Nayara told them before walking away. Wally thought back to where he had heard that name before, Peter. He knew he had heard it someplace, and in fact he had when he had tried to ask Nayara out and she answered that she had already a boyfriend.

Wally looked down at the webs and then back at Peter. "Dude, is this how you greet people for the first time?" Wally asked him. Peter looked at him with confusion. "Yuk, does these webs come from you?" Wally asked him.

"Who are you?" Peter asked him.

"I'm Kid Flash." Wally answered to him.

Nayara paced around the room, shaking her head. Barry slowly walked to her and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, breath." Barry told her.

Nayara shook her head. "If I do, imagine what will happen. This is bad. He was never supposed to come here. This will mess up the entire timeline. I mean, one thing is messing the timeline here, which you will fix, but there...I don't know what will happen." Nayara told Barry.

"Take a seat." Barry told her, leading her to a seat. Nayara tapped nervously her fingers against the table. "Okay, don't panic. We can solve this together." Barry told her.

Nayara quickly stood up from her seat. "No. I have to find...what was the thing I was looking for?" Nayara said to herself, already forgetting for a brief moment what she had came here to do in the first place.

Barry watched sadly how the girl started to grow more nervous by the minute. "What were you looking for?" Barry asked her.

"Something to remove the spider webs from Wally. Peter used them on him and now he is stuck." Nayara told Barry.

Barry stood up. "Okay, well, just wait here and I will help you out. Take some time to think." Barry told her before he flashed away.

Nayara rested her head on the table. "This couldn't get any worse." She mumbled under her breath.

. . .

Nayara sat quietly on her motorcycle near the harbor that she had found when she first arrived here. The brunette was quick to run off from Star Labs to clear her mind. Nayara sighed, jumping off her motorcycle before walking closer to the edge of the harbor. Once she sat down, Nayara leant back on the harbor, shaking her head as she thought of Peter.

Nayara closed her eyes briefly. He wanted me to give you something, Nayara thought of Peter's words. The brunette leant back more, so she was completely lying down on the floor. She took deep breath, opening her eyes to the clear sky. Nayara quietly thought of how Peter could only have arrived if Theodore have let him, which meant that she indeed may had a way out of this world. The question was, was she ready to let this world go while there was nothing that could bring the people to this world into hers. There was also the possibility that Barry might find a way back into her own world since he knew more about bridges to other worlds.

Nayara moved so that she could take out the dog tags from her neck. Nayara held them on top of her head and looked at them as she thought. "What did you want to tell me, Steve?" Nayara asked out loud. There must have been a good reason why Theodore had led Peter know where she was, and it meant it was important. The brunette then thought back at the last time she spoke to Peter, how she had arrived not by Barry's machine but by Barry's present.

Barry's gift!

Nayara stood up quickly from the floor. "That's it. That's his way." Nayara said in thought, already standing up from the floor. The brunette smiled but it soon died down, when she suddenly heard something fall behind her.

The brunette looked at Kara on her Supergirl suit. The blonde had a small smile on her face as she looked up to Nayara. "Wow, I think I gained too much of a speed." Kara said, looking at Nayara.

Nayara sighed, and walked quietly to her. Kara smiled lightly at her. She knew that the brunette had left originally because she needed somebody to talk after her fight with her. Kara had given her time, and after answering the call from Barry telling her that Nayara had left Star Labs she was quick to search for the girl to make sure she was alright. "Kara, hi." Nayara said, looking at her a little bit shy.

Kara pulled her into a tight hug, which Nayara was glad to return. "I missed you." Kara told Nayara. "Your room has not been touched and is waiting for you to come back if you ever want it." Kara added.

Nayara smiled at her. "I thought you wouldn't want to be my roommate anymore." Nayara said to her. "Not after the fight." Nayara added.

"The fight that I caused. Not you." Kara explained to her. "Barry told me about Steve. I'm so sorry." Kara added. Nayara gave him a sad smile and Kara pulled her into another hug. One in which Nayara felt completely save.

"I really needed you here right now. Something has come up." Nayara said to her. Kara pulled away, but still had her on arms length. "Peter is here." Nayara told the brunette.

. . .

Nayara sat quietly on the couch with Kara. Nayara turned around watching Barry enter the room. "Peter thought it will be better if he stayed in Star Labs." Barry said to Nayara. Barry walked to Nayara and knelt right in front of her.

"How did Peter got here?" Kara asked them.

"The same way we did. Do you remember that Theodore made a machine to bring you two here. Well, he said that Theodore let him...but it most have been a very important reason if he let him. My location was supposed to be a secret." Nayara explained to Kara.

"And when Sharon attacked she destroyed her only way out of this world." Barry added looking at Kara.

"Well, not entirely." Nayara said to Barry. The speedster looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "Do you remember the birthday present you gave me." Nayara told him. Barry's eyes widen when he remembered. "I still have it." Nayara added.

"What birthday present?" Kara asked the two.

"Barry wanted me to have this prototype that him and Cisco created. It is supposed to create a portal to other worlds. Now, Barry was able to connect the location from the big machine to this prototype so that I will be able to go back to the Marvel world if I needed." Nayara explained to Kara. "I have forgetten about it until I was thinking of Steve and the last time I ran from him." Nayara added.

"It was when you crashed in Star City and scared Green Arrow." Barry pointed out. Nayara nodded at him. "That's you way out of here." Barry told Nayara.

A sad look crossed Nayara's eyes. She knew what this meant, and she was not ready to say goodbye. "You don't want to go back?" Kara asked her.

Nayara shrugged. "I haven't had to make this decision before." Nayara answered. "I have to think about it." Nayara told them, slowly standing up. She walked up to her bedroom. "Goodnight." Nayara called out to them.

Kara and Barry wished her goodnight before the brunette closed the door. Barry looked down at the floor in thought. "What are you thinking about?" Kara asked him.

"Just....Just something that came up today." Barry told Kara.

The blonde nodded at him. "Was it Sharon?" Kara asked him.

"Yeah. She said something that worries me." Barry answered. Kara looked at him with a small frown. "She has allies, Kara. Right here in this world. She said that they will pay great money for the truth about Nayara. If that does happen, imagine how it will affect her. Her world will crumble. All her new relationships with others might be destroyed and more people will be after her. Back in the Marvel world, only Steve and Emma knew. Imagine somebody else. Somebody powerful who wants to know how to conquer other worlds." Barry whispered to Kara, not wanting Nayara to hear just yet. She have had enough with Peter coming back.

"They don't know she isn't from there neither. They don't know about her comics. Sharon doesn't know about it. Only Steve did and I doubt he ever told Sharon about it." Kara pointed out.

"We all have to hope on that. It is enough that she isn't from here." Barry told Kara.

"We will protect her." Kara reassured Barry.

. . .

Nayara held her fist tightly as she approached the pink silhouette. "What do you want?" Nayara asked it.

"Liberty. Power." The pink silhouette said, turning around to face Nayara. Nayara slowly came closing to her, noticing that she was a woman. "Love is such a powerful too. Not many people hold so much love in their hearts, and that's why they don't gain this power." The woman said.

Nayara closed her eyes, briefly remembering how Bruce fought his fears. She could do just the same. "What power?" Nayara asked him. Nayara closed her eyes when she saw the woman run towards her just like she had done the previous night. This time she not scream. She held her ground.

The woman laughed at her. "You are not afraid anymore." The woman said to her, standing right in front of her. "Open your eyes my child. Open your eyes to the power that is rarely given to mortals like you." The woman told her.

Nayara opened her eyes, and looked at the pink woman. The silhouette started to gain more shape, which was something that had never happened before. "You have been chosen." The woman said to her, taking out her hand. Nayara looked at it, shaking her head.

"You are not real." Nayara told her, walking backwards. "And whatever you are talking about, I don't want it." Nayara said to her, pullig her hands closer to her. The woman shook her head before laughing.

"Love can hurt. Love can destroy you, but most importantly it can give you power. Power to protect everyone you love." The woman said to her. "Nayara, you are a child who holds such a big heart. A heart that destroys your soul. A heart that makes you want to protect everyone you love, and even the ones who you have lost." The woman added. Then she pointed right next to her. "The people you cared for." She whispered before shadows started to appear around Nayara.

Nayara looked around her, watching how the shadows started to take the shape of people that Nayara hold in her heart. Steve, Carol, Tony, Barry, Kara, Bruce, Iris. Nayara's breath stopped when she saw people she had thought she will never see again. Her family. "Can you protect all of them?" The pink woman asked her.

Nayara heard a scream and she turned around watching how Steve dropped dead on the floor. Then she heard another one. Nayara turned around watching how Iris fell too. Then Bruce, then Carol, Peter. Nayara watched in horror as the people she held close to her heart were killed in front of her. Nayara let out a sob, watching how she lost everyone around her.

"Can you really protect them all? You are just a child." The woman said to her. "You don't want to loose them, do you?" The woman asked her. Nayara shook her head, as she ran to Kara but she saw her get killed too.

Nayara felt a giant pain on her chest as she watched each and everyone of her favorite characters, friends and the people she thought of family die in front of her. "I don't want to loose them." Nayara mumbled. Nayara crumbled down in the floor, crying.

The pink woman knelt down next to her. "There is only one way to protect them. You don't want to loose anybody else, do you?" The woman asked her. Nayara shook her head.

Nayara sat quickly on her bed, holding her chest. The brunette struggle to breath as she quickly looked at her surroundings. Her entire face was wet due to her endless tears. Nayara tried to recover from what she had seen, by trying to take deep breath.

Knock, Knock!

Nayara frowned, thinking she was still dreaming.

Knock, Knock!

Nayara turned to her clock, seeing it was very early in the morning. Around three AM.

Knock, Knock!

Nayara quickly stood up, wondering who was frantically knocking at this hour. Nayara was about to open the door, but grew scare of it. She quietly walked to Barry's and Iris' bedroom. She knelt next to Barry's side and tapped his shoulder. "Barry, wake up. Please, wake up." Nayara whispered, not wanting to wake up Iris as well. Nayara then tapped harder Barry's shoulder. "Barry, wake up." Nayara whispered a little bit louder.

"What? Is it another nightmare?" Barry asked her with his eyes still closed.

"Barry, I'm scare. Somebody is at the door and it's three in the morning." Nayara whispered to Barry. Barry opened his eyes slightly just as the knocking became louder. Barry jumped from bed, and looked at Nayara. "I didn't know what to do." Nayara added.

"Just stay here and lock the door, alright." Barry instructed her. Nayara watched how Barry quietly left the room to see who was knocking.

Barry walked to the door, and leant in to see through the peep hole. He frowned when he saw Cisco. Barry opened the door, looking at the scientist who was standing next to Peter. "We got a problem." Cisco told Barry.

Nayara put her ear to the door just in time to hear Cisco's voice. The brunette then opened the door and quietly got out. She froze when she saw Peter holding the side of his chest standing next to Cisco. "What happened?" Nayara asked, coming closer to stand next to Barry.

"There was an attack in Star Labs." Cisco answered.

"Sharon escaped." Peter told them.

Cisco looked at Barry's whose face paled. "Along with our nightmare woman." Cisco added. Nayara looked at Barry, noticing his concerned face.

"Nayara, close the door." Barry told Nayara, who quickly did it.

"When was this?" Barry asked Cisco.

"Just now, and she wasn't alone. She got help from somebody else. An extraction team." Cisco answered. "I have looked them up and guess who they are financed by? Lex Luthor." Cisco added.

Barry sighed, looking at Nayara. "Help Peter, while I talk to Cisco." Barry told her. Nayara nodded at him, helping Peter to the bathroom. Barry walked to the couch and sat down, trying to come up with a plan to keep Nayara safe. Sharon's threat was not an empty threat. She had come for Nayara and she was not going to stop until the girl was dead.

. . .

A/N: I am so excited to show you all how Sharon will be affecting Nayara's life in the upcoming chapters. After a good time planning and thinking, I was happy to introduce Sharon has Nayara's nemesis. In previous chapters, she is this character who wants Nayara out of the picture. Which is when I had this brilliant idea for how to end part III of Across The World. I quite enjoy the ending of Part III and is one that I'm most proud off.

From very early on I wanted Nayara to stay in DC for various reasons, but I also wanted it to keep it connected to Marvel.  I also wanted to present more the reason why Sharon had this resentment against Nayara, and also to build up this tension between both characters. I thought about it for a while and I thought that it will be a good idea since she was already Nayara's nemesis from a very early stage in the story. Nayara found out she was the mole, because of her knowledge of the comics. So for Sharon along with HYDRA, meant that she was a threat.

Thank you for every single comment, vote and read. You have no idea how much this means to me.
