53 | SMALL VISIT TO STAR CITY

IT WAS CLEAR that the encounter with the meta-human had taken a great toll on both Nayara and Barry. Especially Barry who had seemed always on edge every time Iris said she was leaving to go to work or if Nayara left to get some food for Cisco. Iris noticed this sudden change in her fiancée's behavior and decided to question him about, especially since the poor young man had woken up countless of times these past nights. The moment he will open his eyes he will check Iris was right next to him and then walk to the other room just to see Nayara fast sleep. Then he will go back to bed, at ease now that he knew that both of them were alright.

This particular night however, Nayara was more than awake. Her nightmares about Steve had gotten worst, and it did not help that there was a strange voice calling out for her somewhere within the sleep trying to get her attention. However, she ignored since she was still focus on mouring the loss of her friend.

It was one particular night that Barry grew too worry that Iris was not next to him. Instead, she was keeping watch over Nayara who was so young and had been through so much pain so quickly. That night, Iris had told Nayara that when she was ready to talk that she will be there for her and while she waited she will keep watch over Nayara while she slept.

Iris now sat in the couch, watching how Nayara was busy typing and writing something away. She was trying to keep her mind busy away from Steve. She was now focusing on finding out a person she once was looking before, the ones with the initials......... The girl was also trying to find an apartment a job. Even if she had more than enough to life a comfortable life due to all the money that Emma had given her the first time she came, and even when she came back to this world before the portal opener exploded, she wanted to at least find one if something happened. It seemed that she will be leaving there for a long while. She also had to find an apartment of her own, but that was something she will tell Barry after she got the contract and was ready to go. She felt back just staying a long while in Barry's apartment when it was intended for just a short time; not that Iris and Barry complained about it.

Iris took a quick glimpse of what Nayara had on her screen and stopped when she saw her apartment. "That seems nice." Iris said to Nayara. Nayara turned to her in panic.

"I...I...umm... I was just curious." Nayara lied.

Iris smiled at her, giving her a slight nudge. "You know, you don't have to lie." Iris told her. "I'm not mad at all." Iris added.

"You want me to move?" Nayara asked her quietly.

Iris shook her head. "No. I mean, I miss having a girl around." Iris joked, earning a small smile from Nayara. "But if you want to I can help you look." Iris said to her. Nayara looked at her and nod.

Then an idea appeared on her head. The woman looked at Nayara with a small smile. "Do you want to go on an adventure?" Iris asked her. Nayara looked up from her screen and looked at Iris cautiously. "Come on, we are going out for coffee and you don't get to say no. You need some fresh air and some sun." Iris said, pulling Nayara to her feet. Iris took the computer from her hands and put it on the coffee table. "Get your stuff, come on." She said to her.

Nayara smiled at Iris before leaving to get her stuff. When Nayara was ready to go, Iris linked arms with her and they walked together through the door, not telling Barry a single world about their plan.

. . .

Iris walked with Nayara next to her on the streets of Central City. Iris thought that it might be a good idea to walk with Nayara, hoping to encourage the girl to talk. "You have been awfully quiet since Barry told you what happened to the bridge." Iris said to her, starting the conversation. "Are you sad about it? He will figure something out if that's what scares you." Iris told her.

Nayara shrugged at her. "That's not why I have been quiet." Nayara said to her.

"Is it the nightmares? Because they aren't real. They can be scary, but they aren't." Iris told her.

Nayara kicked a small stone, looking down at the floor. "That's the thing, mine became real." Nayara told Iris. "I don't want to talk about." Nayara said to her.

Iris linked arms with her once more. She got to know the girl before this sudden change, and it hurt seeing her like this and her not being able to do anything for her. Deep down she knew that the girl did not want to talk about that topic. At least she knew that she talked to Barry a lot. Iris phone rang, signallign a call.

"I can go and get the coffee while you answer that?" Nayara asked.

Iris nodded at her. "Of course. Nayara, just know that when you are ready to talk, I'm here." Iris said to her. The young brunette gave her a weak smile before walking away to get the coffee. "Hey, Barry." Iris said, picking up the call.

"There has been a sudden change in plans for this weekend. I know we were going to get the flowers for the wedding but something has come up. The meta-human that attacked Central City the other day is changing its course to Star City. I think we might find both women there." Barry said to her.

"It's okay. Actually, Barry. You could take Nayara with you." Iris said to him.

Barry hesitated for a second. "I...umm...I don't think that's a good idea." Barry said to her.

"You told me that when she is focused on something she tends to forget about her problems. So why not take her to Star City? It seems like a perfect idea." Iris told him. She sighed, not hearing a response from Barry. "Look, I know you don't want her to get hurt, and she wouldn't if she is the person behind the computer. She doesn't have to be fighting next to you, she can be calmly sitting while helping you out. You told me yourself the two of you used to do it all the time." Iris added.

"Alright." Barry said on the phone. He then saw Cisco trying to contact him. "I have to go. Cisco found something. I love you, please stay safe." Barry said before hanging up the call.

Barry walked to where Cisco was. "What is it?" Barry asked him.

"You know the day of the meta-human attack? Well, I hacked into the police mainframe Apparently that same thing that made you have nightmares, affected some of the officers in the area. Nayara said it was like a silver slash white smoke that came out of her hands. Maybe that was what knocked you out." Cisco told him. "Which is why I making this mask for you. Nayara gave me the idea and said it will come in handy if there was a gas. She said something about inspiring from another hero." Cisco added.

Barry walked to where Cisco was, and tripped on something. When he looked down, he saw it was Steve Rogers' shield. "Where did you find this?" Barry asked Cisco.

"I found after the explosion. I don't know who it belongs to. I watched the security footage and the blonde woman who tried to kill Nayara threw that at her." Cisco said to him.

Barry picked it up, flinching when he saw the weight of it. When he turned to look at the inside of it he saw the pictures that Steve had on his shield. Barry sighed, putting it back down gently. "The mask that I created is supposed to protect you from the smoke that the woman creates. I searched up her on the data-base, but I found nothing. It is like she never existed." Cisco explained to Barry.

Barry froze at Cisco's words. "What do you mean?" Barry asked her.

"There is no sign of her anywhere." Cisco told him. "It's like she never existed." Cisco added.

Barry nodded at him before picking up his phone to call Iris. He needed to talk to Nayara as soon as possible.

. . .

Iris walked inside Star Labs with Nayara next to her. "What do you need help with?" Nayara asked Barry. Barry pulled Nayara away from the two members of Team Flash. "Is it that bad?" Nayara asked.

"Cisco couldn't find the identity of the meta-human. Maybe she came from the Marvel world. Maybe you know her." Barry said to her.

Nayara shook her head. "No, I don't know her, but I think I know who does." Nayara said to him. "The blonde woman. I don't know who she is, but I don't think she is from here. She put herself in front of me and protected me from the bullet. I think she might know who she is." Nayara explained to him.

"Well, Cisco put an alert for her. Apparently, she bought a ticket to Star City. I thought maybe you wanted to go with me. You haven't formally met Star City." Barry said to her.

Nayara hesitated a little bit before accepting the offer. She was not going to miss an offer of probably teaming up with Team Arrow. After all, she was dying to finally meet the Canary. "Okay. I think Green Arrow doesn't deserve to look at his own nightmares." Nayara said, nodding at him.

. . .

Star City was nice. It was not as bright as National City or Central City, but it was nice. Nayara had yet to visit the city of her dreams, where her favorite heroes lived: Gotham. The brunette walked quietly next to Barry.  Barry had noticed how she had been quite than usual, which worried him a lot. Nayara looked ahead as she thought of the question she wanted to ask Barry. "Do you know how to get rid of nightmares?" Nayara asked Barry.

Barry looked at her, knowing why she had asked him. "Do you see Steve die?" Barry asked her.

"Yeah. I tried to save him and then he is just...lying dead in front of me. I have tried everything to fall sleep but nothing." Nayara said to him. "You haven't been yourself lately neither. What did you see?" Nayara asked him.

"Just my fears." Barry said to her. "Being a hero is not easy. You sometimes don't get to safe everyone and then you have to deal with it. Especially when it's the people closest to you." Barry added.

Nayara looked at the crowd ahead of them. "You are afraid of running out of time." Nayara told him, knowing Barry fairly well and guessing what he tried to say. "Where exactly are we going?" Nayara asked him.

Barry smiled at her. "I wanted for you to meet somebody. Come on." Barry said to her, nodding towards the crowd. Nayara speed up her walk so she could match Barry's. The two of them stopped, watching how the crowd had slowly died down with excitement. "Wait here." Barry said before entering the crowd.

Nayara looked around the city, smiling slightly. She was silently hoping that something happened while she was there just so she could see Black Canary in action. As she looked around, she froze when she the same blonde woman with a red and blue hoodie watching the crowd. Her face was hidden by some shadows. Nayara ran towards her, but the woman took a quick glimpse at her face before running to an alley. "Hey! I just want to talk!" Nayara yelled, running towards the alley. The woman had her back against the girl. The woman looked up to the sky and flew off. "Well, at least I didn't get her confused with somebody else." Nayara said, shaking her head.

The brunette went out of the crowd and quickly made her way towards the crowd once more just in time to see Barry coming towards her. "Where were you?" Barry asked her, curious on where the girl had taken off to.

Nayara looked over her shoulder. "There was an ice cream truck not far." Nayara lied, shaking her head.

Barry smiled at her, and motioned her to turn around. "Nayara I want you to meet my friend...." He said to her. Nayara turned around and froze when she saw who it was. "Oliver Queen." He finished.

Oliver also froze when he saw the face of the brunette once more. Nayara knew who Oliver Queen truly was, Green Arrow, but she knew she could not just walk up to him and act all friendly since the one who she met was the Arrow and not Oliver. Even if she had shot three arrows to Lex Luthor and one exploding one against Deathstroke to safe Oliver's life, she knew that it will be too suspicious. So, she decided to try and act confused on who Oliver was.

Nayara turned to Barry with a confused look. "Who is this?" Nayara asked him, sending a quietly panicked look to Barry as her cheeks turned a bright pink due to embarrassment. She knew that Barry knew that she liked Green Arrow.

Nayara turned around to look at Oliver who also was trying to play off his shocked face. He let out a nervous laugh, something that made Nayara quite amused actually. "I'm Oliver Queen." Oliver said to her.

Nayara took out her hand so that he could shake it. "I'm Nayara." Nayara said to him.

Barry smiled a little bit, having a brilliant idea to lighten the mood. Well, it was just for him to be amused more than anything. Barry put a supporting hand on Nayara's shoulder. "Nayara here was dying to come to Star City. You see she loves Green Arrow." Barry said to Oliver.

"Really?" Oliver asked, looking at Nayara.

Nayara smile turned into a worried one as Barry continued "She says he is an amazing hero. Right, Nayara?" Barry asked, looking at Nayara. Nayara nodded at him. He let out a chuckle, and decided that the poor girl have had enough. "Where is that ice cream truck you talked about?" Barry asked her.

"Umm...I think it left. I'm going to go and check." Nayara said before running off.

Barry looked at her confused before turning to Oliver. Oliver walked to Barry with a curious look. "So, why are you here? I don't think it's just a visit." Oliver told him.

"Not is not. I can in to warn you. There was a meta-human who is planning an attack in Star City." Barry said to Oliver. The other hero sighed, looking around. "The problem is that she doesn't have an identity, and...her powers." Barry added.

"I have dealt with people with super human strength. I think I can deal with one normal person." Oliver said to him.

"That's the thing that you should be concerned about, her powers. She has this white smoke that creates something that makes you have nightmares. It's like you can't wake up from it." Barry replied.

Oliver frowned, before pointing at Barry. "Didn't Bruce had to fight somebody like that?" Oliver asked him. Barry shrugged at him, and quietly noted to ask Nayara. Barry looked around for Nayara who seemed still looking for something, or so he thought.

"I think she got lost." Barry said to Oliver.

Oliver chuckled at Barry's face. "She is old enough to take care of herself. She isn't three." Oliver told Barry as he quickly remembered what the girl had defended herself the last time he saw her. Oliver patted Barry on the back and started walking. "Come on Allen, let go and find your friend." He said to him.

The two men quickly found her a couple of blocks away buying ice cream. The brunette was thanking the server when Barry turned to Oliver. He knew that he did deserve to know why Nayara was here, to help. He thought it will be better than to just bring her to the new base without a warning. "Oh, just so you know. She is here because she will help out with the meta-human stuff." Barry said to Oliver.

Oliver gave a tired look to Barry. "I...I don't want another base destroyed." Oliver told Barry.

Barry raised his hands in defense. "Well from what I have been told it was your fault that you didn't disactivate the tracking system of the suit." Barry replied. Oliver let out an annoyed sigh.

"She told you what happened?" Oliver asked him.

"Yeah. We tend to talk a lot." Barry said to him with a small smile. He looked ahead, watching how Nayara was carrying out three ice creams on her hand.

"This is for you." Nayara said, handling one to Barry. "I would have ordered more but I can't since you eat too many. I can't carry all of them." Nayara explained. Then she turned to Oliver with a shy smile. "And this are for you, Oliver." She said before handing his own. Then she turned around and walked to a near bench to eat her own.

Oliver looked at the ice cream and then at Nayara confused. "Don't act like as if you have never eaten ice cream before." Barry joked, shaking his head.

Oliver turned his eyes back to the ice cream that the young brunette had bought him. "She can help." Oliver whispered to Barry. "But only because she is part of your team." Oliver said, pointing at Barry.

Barry raised his hands, and nodded at him. "I will take full responsibility." He promised to Oliver.

"Alright, let's catch that meta-human." Oliver said before taking a bite of this ice.
