52 | FUNERAL BLUES

DEBRIS FLEW ACROSS the sky, signaling the collapsing of a building. It seemed like there will not calm times coming any time soon for the citizens of Central City, nor a suitable rest for its heroes neither.

Kid Flash, Wally, raced across the street with the help of the Flash trying to help people out of the debris' way. The two of them were quick to reach while Wally's friend, Conner, was trying his best to reach the hit zone.

Wally turned to Barry, looking at him with curiosity. "Do you think this is another of those portals?" Wally asked Barry.

Barry put his finger on the side of his mask, turning on the communication system. "Cisco, can you check the security cameras? It will be nice to know what just fell from the sky." Barry said to him.

As on queue a body flew out of the building followed by another one. The second following the first one shot laser eyes to its target. Wally mouth opened wide due to the pure shock, while Barry glared at it.

"Keep, people out of the way." Barry instructed Wally. "Cisco can you locate, Nayara?" Barry asked his friend.

"Do you want to send her? Because her powers are pretty cool, and it seems like you might need so back up." Cisco said to him.

"No. I just want to make sure she is nowhere on sight." Barry said to him.

"Umm....I think I should tell you this, but her motorcycle is missing. I am looking at the footage right now and it seemed that a person with a black helmet took off with it. Wait....it has something on the back of the helmet." Cisco said as he typed away. He narrowed his eyes at the footage seeing a symbol he did not know, but both Barry and Nayara did. Especially Nayara since it belonged to her role model. "It has a start painted in yellow." Cisco added. "I put a tracker on it in case it got lost or something. It's coming towards the hit zone." Cisco explained.

Barry frowned. "I will deal with it later. I need you to run facial recognition on the people who are fighting. I don't know who they are." Barry said to him. Barry ran to where the two people were fighting and stopped once he saw who they were. Two women, one had short blonde her and was wearing a white suit with a red cape, while the other one was wearing plain black normal clothe.

"Why do you do that to people?" The blonde asked the other women with raven hair.

"Because its what they paid me to do, blondie." She said.

"Hey!" Barry called out the two of them. "This is my city, could you not cause this much destruction and deal with it in a civilized way?" Barry said the two of them. The blonde one reacted quickly by turning around and shooting him with her laser eyes. Barry avoided the hit, and used his speed to take the raven-haired woman away from the blonde.

The girl with the symbol of Captain Marvel on the back stopped a couple of blocks away. She took her helmet out reviling the face of the owner of the motorcycle, Nayara Lilly. Nayara turned off her vehicle and raced to where the action was to see what was happening, and it seemed that Conner had arrived just in time.

Nayara pushed by the people who were trying to get cover. She looked ahead, watching how the laser that almost hit Barry, hit the side of the building a couple of blocks away. She watched how Kid Flash pulled the people to safety.

The young brunette ran out in hopes of helping Wally. It was a unwise decision since there was an angered super human with enhanced strength and laser eyes running around, but alas she was Nayara after all. She always put people before her.

Barry stopped a couple of blocks away, looking at the woman. "Who are you?" He asked her.

The woman smirked at him before her eyes turned silver. She raised her hands to Barry's and let out a soft laugh. "Try to be brave. You are supposed to be a hero?" The woman said to Barry.

Barry frowned, not understanding what the woman meant, but he soon did. His eyesight started to turn black. The woman smirked, but it soon died when she saw the blonde was looking for her. The blonde hero used her super powers to send Barry blocks away.

"What are you doing here?" The blonde asked her.

"Minding my own business." She said, before throwing a punch at the woman, sending her away against a building. The blonde crashed against a series of pillars as she flew across the inside of the building.

Nayara saw at the people who were already getting into safety. She looked around for Barry and Wally, but she only saw Wally. She thought that Barry would be taking care of the women, but she was unaware of his current state a couple of blocks away.

Boom!

Nayara turned to her side, watching how a woman dropped from the sky and into the cement, breaking it slightly due to her strength. Nayara watched how Kid Flash, ran quickly towards her before giving her a punch. The woman glared at him.

"You speedster never give up." She said to him. She was too consumed into the discussion that she did not see the blonde woman raising up higher into the sky as she positioned herself to use her laser eyes against the threat. Nayara did saw her.

Nayara ran to Wally and pushed him into the ground just as the blonde shot the laser eyes. Wally was quick to grab Nayara on his arms before running away from the fight. Wally looked at Nayara with wide eyes. "What are you doing here?" Wally asked.

"I was just curious to know what the thing that crashed was." Nayara said to him. "She...she said something about Barry. Go and search from him. I will cause a distraction." She quickly added.

Wally shook his head, watching carefully how the two women fought with each other. Conner raced to the two friends, looking at them. "I'm not planning on you being the distraction. You are still on recovering. No way." Wally said to her.

"Then let Conner be the distraction while you go and find Flash." Nayara replied, looking at Wally dead in the eyes. "You trust me, right?" Nayara asked him.

"Sadly, I do." Wally said before turning to Conner. "Look after her, if something happens....oh you will not want to know." Wally said to Conner.

Nayara looked at Conner with a small smirk. "We need to contain the fight here so that the destruction will be minimize. Is everyone out now?" Nayara asked him.

Conner stopped, standing still as he heard a couple of voices not far from where they stood. "Not everyone." Conner said to her.

"Alright, then I will help the people out. You contain the fight here." Nayara said to him.

"Wait, what? But Wally said-" He started but Nayara cut him off.

"I know what he said, and you are doing just that by making sure those two women don't destroy the buildings that I'm going to right now. Come on, Conner. You are strong, you can deal with them. I believe in you." Nayara said before running away to help the remaining people. Conner sighed, shaking his head.

Wally searched across the streets quickly, and stopped when he saw a red body lying on the ground. Wally swore softly before running to his mentor. He looked down at him, seeing him have his eyes closed and mumbling incoherent words. "Barry?" Wally asked, hitting his chest so he would wake up but he didn't. "Cisco, what's going on with Barry?" Wally asked.

The scientist walked to his computer seeing the change in Barry's vitals for the first time since the hero had been attacked by the meta-human minutes prior. "Umm...is he okay?" Cisco asked Wally, watching how the Barry's heart rate raced dangerously high in comparison to what he normally had.

"Will I seriously be asking 'what's going on with Barry' if he was okay?" Wally sarcastically replied to Cisco. The scientist looked at him with curiosity.

"Bring him to Star Labs right now. It isn't good. His vitals aren't good at all." Cisco informed Wally. Wally nodded, ready to run Barry to Star Labs.

Meanwhile, Conner raced to the two women trying to contain the fight within the section. Conner avoided a punch from the woman with the black hair, before punching her on the face. "Step aside." The blonde woman said.

"Can't do, sorry." Conner said to her. The blonde woman was about to punch him but he was quick enough to do punch her back before she could. The woman flew back against the building.

Nayara helped the last person out. She calmed a little, finally hearing the sirens start to come near. The brunette looked up seeing the police cars start to appear at the scene. Police cars started to get out with their guns drawn out.

"Everyone raise your hands." An officer yelled. Nayara put her hands on her head not wanting to be perceived as a threat. Nayara turned to look at the woman with raven haired who smirked at Conner.

The woman started to walk towards the police officers, coming closer to them with ease. "Hello boys, and girls." The woman said.

"Stay back." A female officer said.

The woman said before she raised her hands. Her eyes turned silver and suddenly white smoke began to appear on her hands. She shot the smoke towards the police officers. The blonde woman, heard the clicking of a gun and from a far she saw it being pointed at Nayara. The blonde woman flew quickly to her and stood in front of her as the bullet was shot. The bullet bounced off the woman's body and fell to the floor.

The woman then turned to the evil meta human, who in return used her strength to fight her. In the process the women flew against another building with had had enough hits. A huge piece of debris was about to fall on top of Nayara if it wasn't for Conner stepping in and protecting the both using his strength. The blonde hero instead of letting the woman win the fight flew up into the sky as the two fought each other.

The brunette looked at Conner, giving him a thankful look. "Thank you. We got to find the two women, right now." Nayara said before starting to run in search for the angered women.

After a couple minutes running, the brunette stopped at the busy street. She looked around her, trying to find any of the two, but it seemed she had no luck that day or so she thought. Nayara looked around, stopping when she heard a crash.

The brunette walked around, seeing small pieces of concrete and brick fallen on the floor. She jumped over them, stopping when she saw the blonde woman who had saved her from the bullet. The brunette looked at her carefully, not knowing who she was. "Umm...will you please....sit still for a moment. I don't think it is nice to just crash different buildings. I mean people will forgive you if you were Superman, but you aren't." Nayara said to her.

The blonde woman froze on her place before shaking her head. "What's your name?" Nayara asked her. "Umm....you know.....I'm not like Flash. I just want to talk and help you." Nayara said to her.

The blonde woman instead took off flying without saying another world. "You got to be kidding me!" Nayara exclaimed in annoyance. "How am I supposed to catch her like-" Her words were cut short when she saw the white smoke near her feet. The girl turned around and kicked the woman on the stomach before running away. Although, she had already inhaled a little bit of the smoke, which was not going to help her now recover from the loss she had just suffered.

The brunette ran a couple of blocks away, but stopped when she saw somebody leaning on the side of the alley. "Nay." The voice she knew too well whispered. Nayara quietly walked towards it, hoping to see Steve alive.

The brunette touched his shoulder, but regretted the minute a bloodied Steve turned around. "You failed me! This is your fault!" He yelled at her. Nayara jumped back in panic as Steve tried to reach her. "You knew you could safe me and you left me to die! You left me! This is your own fault!" Steve yelled at her.

Nayara crashed against the wall, shaking her head. "Steve....I....I didn't know. I'm sorry. It should have been me." Nayara whispered in shock, looking at him. The sadness and lost was clouding her mind.

The girl's feet buckled, and the brunette fell to the floor. Steve walked to her closer. "I trusted you! I trusted you! You knew what was going to happen! You knew." He said to her with his voice full of authority.

Nayara let out a sob, and closed her eyes. "Steve. I tried." Nayara whispered.

"It should have been you all along." Steve said to her, keeling in front of her face.

The brunette panicked and covered her eyes as she sobbed. "You failed! You failed me and now this is what happened!" The voice yelled at her.

Nayara whispered, pulling her news closer to her chest as she sobbed. She sobbed because she was afraid, lost and sad. She had lost somebody who she truly cared for and trusted. The guilt was consuming her and the bloodied Steve was not helping her case.

Nayara!

Wally looked at the crumbling figure of Nayara who was at the floor holding herself as she cried. "I'm sorry. Steve. Steve I didn't want...I missed you." Nayara whispered as she cried. Wally knelt down beside her, shaking her but the girl will not move. Nayara suddenly jumped back, shaking her head.

Wally narrowed his eyes at her, seeing the silver on them just like he had with Barry. Wally put both of his hands on her shoulders and shook it. "Nayara! Nayara!" He yelled at her, trying to wake her up from the trace. The girl continued to sob as Steve's words kept hitting her hard right on the heart. Wally took her in his arm before running back to Star Labs.

. . .

Nayara sat down quietly on her desk. It took a few more tries to wake Nayara up. Thankfully, the hallucination seemed to slowly died, and when it did it left a startled and confused Nayara. The brunette was completely destroyed, even more so than before and it did not help that Barry was still lying unconscious on the medical bed.

Conner walked to Nayara with a cup filled with water and gave it to her. Nayara remained quiet, keeping her own thoughts to herself. Wally paced around the room, worried at his mentor.

"We got to get help, Cisco." Wally told the scientist.

"I am trying to figure out why Barry hasn't woken up. It's like he is in a comma." Cisco told Wally. Cisco turned to Nayara who had not moved a muscle. "Nayara!" Cisco called her out. The brunette looked at him, with a blank expression. "Do you...know what is going on with Barry?" Cisco asked her.

"I thought you were supposed to be the one in charge of finding that out." Nayara replied.

"No matter what we do he is unresponsive." Cisco explained to her. "His heart rate is spiking up, and that's the only thing we are finding. It's useless." Cisco added.

Nayara sighed, walking slowly to Barry's bed. The brunette looked at Barry who kept mumbling words. She knelt down next to her bed and put her ear near Barry's head in hopes of hearing something.

"Don't take them." Barry whispered. "Run. Dead. Change back the time." Barry whispered again.

Nayara frowned looking at Barry. "See it doesn't make sense what he is saying." Wally told Nayara. "He is not responding anything from us. It's like he is stuck within his own mind." Wally explained to her.

Then idea appeared on Nayara's head. "Wally, can you pass me my phone? I need to make a call." Nayara said to him.

. . .

Kara entered Star Labs with Martian Manhunter following her. Martian Manhunter was not only a member of the Justice League but also a friend of Kara's. His powers, which Nayara knew a little bit of, were the things needed to help Barry.

Conner looked at Martian Manhunter who was walking straight to Nayara. "What do you have in mind?" Conner asked Nayara.

"I don't know if it's going to work, hopefully it does. The plan is that Martian Manhunter will get into Barry's mind and hopefully see what he is happening to him." Nayara answered. The brunette walked to the former member of the Justice League and took out her hand so that he could shake it. "Sorry to call but it was an emergency. Thank you for coming. I'm a big fan." Nayara said.

Kara smiled at her, and the girl tried her best to form one but she failed. "What do you need me to do?" Martian Manhunter asked her.

"Access his brain, maybe. I.... Wally found him unconscious and he keeps saying this words that doesn't make sense. I think he is awake, but not really." Nayara explained to Martian Manhunter. The green alien nodded and approached

"Are you alright?" Kara asked her.

"I'm just not ready to loose somebody else." Nayara whispered to her. Even though she attempted to keep that part quiet, she failed to do so since Conner heard it due to his super hearing.

Martian Manhunter put his hands on Barry's head and created a link between the two.

Zoom!

The apartment door was opened. Martian walked inside of it, seeing a man holding crying over a body. He walked closer to it cautiously, not knowing what to expect. Then he saw it, the face of Barry Allen crying over his fiancée Iris West.

"I'm sorry." Barry whispered to her.

There was a sudden flash of light. Now Nayara stood in front of Barry and Iris. "Barry. I'm scare." She whispered to him. Barry looked up to her from his place on the floor. "He is going to get me. He is here for me, Barry. Please. Please save me." Nayara whispered with tears running down her eyes.

Then suddenly, something began to appear behind Nayara. "Barry?" Nayara asked him. Then suddenly she was stabbed by a long sword. Her eyes began to died down slowly.

"No!" Barry yelled, watching how the man with the black and yellow mask took out the sword from Nayara, body. The man threw the body on the floor carelessly.

"You weren't fast enough." The man said. When Martian walked closer, was when he was able to recognize the view of Deathstroke.

Nayara looked at Barry with a scared face. "You said you were going to protect me. You failed me." She whispered before her limps went limp.

"No. Don't....I can't loose the two of you. No." Barry whispered, crying over the body of the two people he cared for. The two people who made up his world. Martian knelt next to Barry, shaking him.

"It isn't her, Barry." Martian told him. "It isn't them. You haven't lost them." He added, trying to pull Barry away from the lies that this nightmare was giving him.

"I failed to protect her." Barry said to him.

"No, you didn't." Martian said to him before using his powers to help Barry out.

Zoom!

"Barry!" Nayara exclaimed as she ran to Barry's side. Barry gasped, sitting up from the bed. The brunette was quick to pulled him into a tight hug. Barry looked down at her, confused at who was hugging him at first, but when he realized who it was he was quick to hug her back. Barry was still shaken by what he had repeadtly seen on his hallucinations. Everyone except Barry and Nayara seemed to calm down by Barry walking up, but it would not be the last time they saw this new meta-human.

. . .

Nayara sat quietly in one of the halls to the particle accelerator. Barry had told her that Cisco had been spending time cleaning different parts of it on his free time. The dog tags she was wearing seemed a little heavier than before, so she was quick to take them out of her neck.

The girl closed her eyes ....

"It's all your fault. I trusted to you and you failed me! You knew and you did nothing!" Steve screamed at her.

"I'm sorry. Steve, please forgive me." Nayara whispered, looking at his bloodied face. Steve pointed at his blood-stained suit. "Steve." Nayara whispered to him.

.... Nayara opened her eyes once again, letting some new tears fall down her face.

She jumped when she felt somebody seat right next to her. The brunette dried her tears before turning to see Barry. The two had matching faces of sorrow and guilt. They both had seen their nightmares come to life so that they could hunt them.

Barry did not say much. He just looked at the wall in front of them. "Wally told me what happened to you." Barry said to her. "I had caught the woman with the raven hair and then her eyes turned silver. Then everything went black and then all I could see was...was the world has I never left. I saw my own fears." Barry explained to her.

"That's her power." Nayara mumbled. "I thought I had escaped it, but it turned out I didn't." Nayara added.

"What did you see?" Barry asked her.

Nayara looked down at the dog tags. "I...umm...I saw.... I saw Steve." Nayara said with struggle. She felt her throat starting to hurt. "He...H-He said...I kn-know it's true. I just.... he said that it was my fault he died. That...I knew the outcome and didn't do something about it. I...I failed him." Nayara said as her tears began to appear. "The worst part was the look of disappointment and anger on his eyes." Nayara whispered.

Barry put an arm over Nayara's shoulder. Nayara leant her head on his shoulder. "I saw people die. No matter what I did I was never fast enough. I ran and I ran but the nightmare never ended." Barry said to her. Barry pulled her into a tight hug, hoping that the hug will amend the broken pieces of her heart. "It is not your fault. Okay. It's not." Barry whispered to her. Nayara let out a small sob, as she hugged her best friend tighter.
