43 | THE TERRIBLE FIGHT WITH CLARK
NAYARA'S PHONE RANG rapidly from its place in the sofa. Nayara picked up, hearing Barry's voice from the other line. "Nay, are you alright?" Barry said from the other line.
"Yeah, are you off power as well?" Nayara asked him.
"Yes. The blackout has hit the entire country. Just stay inside Kara's apartment." Barry told her.
"Well of course. I'm not an idiot." Nayara told Barry. "Are you in Star Labs?" Nayara asked him as she took a seat near the coach.
"Well, I'm on my way the-" Barry's words were cut off by the sound of something crashing, which was then followed by a groan coming from Barry.
"Barry are you okay?" Nayara asked with a slight worry. Another groan came from Barry, giving her the answer. "Barry, come on. Running without guidance what so ever, I thought you will smarter than that. It is just common sense." Nayara said with pure annoyance in her voice. "I think we must take this as a sign that you must include night vision in your suit. It will come on handy." Nayara added.
"I will keep that in mind." Barry replied as he avoided another wall. "Why were you asking if I was in Star Labs?" Barry asked her.
"I wanted to know if you could actually figure out a way to know if a wormhole was opened. Kind of like the one we passed through while coming to this world." Nayara told him as she typed away, but everything was down.
"You wouldn't ask that if-" Barry stopped, realizing what Nayara was trying to do. "Did you saw a portal being opened?" Barry asked her.
"Yeah, Kara's sister is going there to see what it was. But I saw something she didn't." Nayara whispered to Barry. "I saw something small coming off it and into this world. What it is? I have no idea. There is just one thing that I am worried about." Nayara told him.
"Which is?" Barry asked her.
"If that portal comes from within this world, and if not, then we got a giant problem. Who knows who could come out of those things." Nayara answered.
"Come on, alien invasion? Been there. People from a parallel earth? Been there. What is next, a giant to take over the earth?" Barry joked.
"Don't test it." Nayara answered back. She heard shuffling and looked up to see Kara coming closer. "I'm talking to Barry." Nayara informed her. "I don't know if what I saw falling is dangerous or not. I'm trying to figure it out." Nayara said to her.
"Have you read any comics which had people falling off portals?" Kara asked her.
"Honestly, with what I have been through, I don't know if to believe this theory or not." Nayara told her, silently going through her memory to pin point the answer to Kara's question. "There might be a possibility." She mumbled to herself.
However, it seemed like the night had just begun.
Boom!
A loud explosion was heard. The windows trembled, and the apartment shook. Nayara looked at Kara worriedly. "What was that?" Nayara asked her. Kara send her a look before flying off before Nayara could protest. "Barry, are you still there?" Nayara said through the phone with a wary voice.
"I'm right here, Nayara." Barry answered.
"Now that you are here, I need a huge favor. Do you by any chance have Batman's phone number?" Nayara asked him.
. . .
Steve stood at the balcony of the Avenger's tower. "You know, I'm starting to think Tony should have better security." Emma said as she entered the balcony.
Steve looked at her from over his shoulder. "Why are you always calm?" Steve asked Emma.
"Oh, I wouldn't be if I didn't knew she was alright." Emma noted down, smiling at Steve. The male blonde sighed turning to look at the skyline. "You know, its is meaningless searching for her. She wouldn't wanted you to be worried about her, or waste your time looking for her. Especially when a war is coming." Emma reminded Steve. The blonde stepped closer to the hero.
"I just have to find her before someone else does." Steve told her.
"Who?" Emma asked him.
"His name is Loki. He is...not a good guy. I thought he had taken her so I questioned him. Thor keeps believing him." Steve told her.
"What do you think it is then? Who do you believe was?" Emma asked him. The hero did not answer. "Well, who is this Loki then? Haven't heard of him? I will like to be inform if there is somebody after Nayara." Emma told him, sending him a look.
Steve sighed, taking out his phone. "It's him." Steve said to Emma as he showed her the picture. Emma frowned, recognizing the man.
"Why do you want him in, again?" Emma asked him.
"I think he has Nayara." Steve told him.
Emma rolled her eyes. "He doesn't." Emma replied to him. Steve looked at her. "He protected Nayara for a while. I saw it with my own two eyes. He was the one who informed me where the two of you were when HYDRA took you two. A man who wants to harm her would have left her to die there, but he didn't." Emma told Steve. "Look, Steve. Maybe he was just there at the wrong place at the wrong time, but one thing is for sure. He will never arm Nayara. Or at least that is what I think." Emma added.
"Captain Rogers." Thor said, catching both of their attention. He looked at Emma and then back at Steve. "I think I know why my brother left." Thor told Steve.
"Thor this is-" Steve started but Emma cut him off.
"Emma Frost, Nayara's guardian. I look after her." Emma presented herself. Thor looked at her confused.
"Thor, son of Odin. It is a pleasure to meet you. You have raised a beautiful young warrior." Thor told Emma. Emma smiled back at him. "Very brave, I may add. She does not fear death." Thor said, raising his voice slightly. Steve stood behind Emma, motioning Thor to stop taking but he will not listen.
"Oh, really?" Emma said.
"Yeah, she ran to battle hundreds of people who weirdly enough believed themselves to be serpents." Thor told Emma. Emma looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Hundreds?" Emma asked curiously.
"Yeah. I was there myself. Lady Nayara even stole some files from HYDRA for the Avengers. Very brave of her." Thor answered.
"Well, they...they weren't hundreds." Steve lied, trying to calm the situation fully knowing that Emma was starting to panic.
"Thousands we shall say?" Thor asked Steve.
"Thousands!" Emma snapped, turning to face Steve. "Thousands!" She repeated, raising her voice. "You said you were going to look after her while she was with you. How were you going to take care of her when you send her into a HYDRA base, not any base but a HYDRA base!" Emma told Steve while sending him a deadly look.
"Well, Captain Rogers was unable to go. He was seriously ill. In the verge of death." Thor told Emma. Steve sighed, knowing that things had just gotten worst.
"Then who was with her?" Emma asked Thor.
"Me." Thor answered with a big smile, which was not repeated by Emma.
Emma clenched her jaw and stood taller, looking at Thor. "When was this?" Emma asked Thor.
"Right before she left." Thor told her.
"Disappeared." Steve said, in an attempt to correct him; but the God of Thunder was not going to have it.
Thor crossed his arms over his chest. "She left, and it is why I came here to talk to you." Thor told Steve. "I think that he truly left just to search for her. He did not try anything before. Not until you questioned him." Thor told Steve. "I have known my brother for a long time, and I have never seen him had the look that he had when I gave him back the book that Nayara had. He did something I was not expecting. He demanded that I will promise him that Nayara will not get involved in any of it." Thor explained Steve.
"Is your brother Loki?" Emma questioned Thor.
"Yeah. When we caught him, he had given Nayara a book from Asgard." Thor told Emma. Emma turned to Thor. "Nayara had no idea. I mean, she must have been deceived just like a I have. She is young." Thor told Emma.
Emma sighed, shaking her head. "I came here to tell you that I know that Nayara is safe. Because I knew you have been stressing over her." Emma told turning to face Steve. "Now, listen to me Steve. Just give up. She is safe and leave that poor man alone." Emma told knowing that Steve was not going to stop until he fun Nayara. "She is completely safe, and I can't tell you were she is because of security reason, but she is alright." Emma added.
"That man, Loki. He organized an alien invasion and tried to take over the earth." Steve told her. Emma shrugged.
"Well, it's a good thing she is where she is. There is no alien invasion who could harm her." Emma whispered to him. "Why don't you believe me when I tell you that she is alright." Emma asked him with a tired voice.
"I don't know. I...just want to make things right." Steve told her. "I said things I shouldn't have said, I just want her to stop running." Steve added.
"She is safe. That's the end of history." Emma told him. "And I hope she isn't back until all this mutant against government tensions end. If not then she might end up in a lab being dissected or bleeding out because she took a bullet for somebody." Emma whispered to him so that Thor will not hear.
"If you see her, can you tell her I'm sorry." Steve asked her.
"Then you better live so you get a chance to tell her yourself." Emma answered. "She might be worlds away, but there is one thing that will break her heart, and you being dead." She whispered before turning to leave.
"It was nice meeting you, Thor." Emma told him before walking away.
. . .
Nayara got out of the motorcycle and looked around the big hole in the middle of the floor. It had been many hours since the darkness of the previous night had been decimated by the morning sun; and now the country was returning to their once somewhat tranquility.
But of course, Nayara being Nayara could not comfort with it much longer. She had been wanting to know what had slipped through the portal she had seen the previous night. So of course, she went to the crash zone; and of course, she did not inform anybody about it.
The young adult was about to step into the restricted section, which hours prior had been filled with DEO agents trying to see what had caused such thing, when her phone rang loudly. Nayara took it out, seeing Kara's phone number. "Hi, Kara. How is my super girl doing?" Nayara asked, laughing at her own joke.
"I'm still at work. I'm just calling to check on you." Kara told her.
"Yeah, I'm good. I'm very good actually. I got to go because I'm busy watching FRIENDS. Be careful when fighting aliens, alright? Cool. Bye." Nayara said before hanging up.
The quick call startled Kara a little. To the extent that she had to ask Alex a huge favor. However, Nayara was unaware of this.
As she grew closer to the dent, she spotted a burnt tree, and many fallen ones that followed. "What could have fallen from there?" Nayara asked to herself out loud. She walked around the premise, spotting a burnt facility not far. "That is what exploded." Nayara said to herself. She was about to take a step closer to it but stopped when she heard something.
The brunette turned around to the trees, not spotting a thing. She swallowed. Please not be an alien. Please not be an alien. She thought to herself. Although, before she could make any other move she jumped at the sound of something metal.
When she turned around, she realized she had stepped on a small metal compartment. She did not take her eyes away from the trees as she knelt down to get it. The brunette quickly stood up and came closer to her motorcycle.
As she was deciding to go near the trees, her phone had blasted off into music once again. This time, causing her to almost have a slight heart attack. The girl placed herself into the motorcycle and accepted the call.
"Hello?" She asked, keeping her eyes on the trees.
"What do you want my phone number for?" Batman gruff voice said from the other line.
"I actually needed your help on something. It's more of a safe a person type of thing. I'm sorry if I disturbed your evening. I just...didn't trust anybody else to help me out." Nayara answered. "I can't talk right now...ummm...I will call you back." Nayara said, hesitating when she saw something move. She gulped, hanging up the phone with one hand while she turned on the motorcycle with the other. Without looking back, she took off; unaware that she had eyes watching her every move.
. . .
Nayara walked inside her and Kara's apartment, holding her eyes in one hand while her helmet in the other. She opened the door, just to come face to face with Alex Danvers. "Hi." Nayara greeted the oldest Danvers.
"Where were you?" Alex asked her.
"I was out driving around the city." Nayara told her.
"You don't have a car." Alex noted.
"I have a motorcycle. Barry got me one, I was about to buy one but...umm Star Labs had a prototype there and it worked so...why not." Nayara answered. Alex nodded at her.
"What's that on your helmet?" She asked her.
Nayara closed the door behind her before walking closer to Alex. She put her helmet on the table and turned it so both women were facing the back of it. "It's a symbol that I quite like." Nayara told her.
Alex looked at the yellow star that was over the blue and red lines. "Why are you here?" Nayara asked her.
"Just wanted to make sure you were alright, that's all." Alex answered. Nayara looked at her weirdly but decided not to push it. "Well, I'm leaving now. If you need anything feel free to call. Bye." Alex told her. Nayara waved at her goodbye.
. . .
Nayara was watching the pasta cook while waiting for Kara to arrive. As she was about to open the sauce a shadow startled her. Nayara calmed herself, noticing the siluette she knew all too well. "You know, you can come inside." Nayara said out loud.
Batman opened the window coming inside the apartment. He closed all the blinds before approaching the girl with narrowed eyes. "You requested my phone number. Why?" Batman asked her.
"Because I'm in trouble and I don't want Kara nor Barry to freak out." Nayara answered.
"Then why do you call me?" Batman asked with slight annoyance.
"Because I trust you, and you are smart and all so wise." Nayara said as she walked to the place she had hidden the ring. She took it out and approached Batman with it. "So this thing fell into my apartment, and so I call the Green Lantern to help me out. But the thing is that it turns out that...ummm...the reason why it got to me it is because some weird aliens wants to use my body as a host for their dead queen." Nayara explained to him. "And I really needed help so I thought you will be able to help me out. I mean....I could have told Barry, but I...I felt bad because this is a big trouble and you know he has been nice enough to help...and Kara is letting me stay in her apartment." Nayara explained to him. "I really don't have anybody else to call other than them." Nayara added quietly.
Batman looked at the ring with a blank expression. However, before he could give her a reply...
Boom!
The wall crashed down as somebody entered the apartment. Batman pulled Nayara down as the walls shook. Nayara looked up to see Superman's red eyes. "You are kidding me! You couldn't have used the freaking door!" Nayara snapped at him in annoyance.
"Where's is Lois?" Clark asked them.
"Wait what?" Nayara said to him, standing up. "Dude, she doesn't live here. Why don't you go and find her in Metropolis?" Nayara snapped at him. "Now I might get sick. Look at that whole you just-" Her words were caught up in her mouth by Batman pulling her out of Superman's path.
Superman fist collided with the tv. "And the tv. What has the tv ever done to you?" Nayara asked him.
"Not the time to be snapping at a ranging man." Batman whispered to her.
"I'm not afraid of that big oaf!" Nayara replied back. She walked up to Clark, despite Batman avoiding it. "Now, take a deep breath man, and let's talk this out." Nayara told him. "Being mad, clouds your mind. You wouldn't be able to find her unless we talk it out like civilized people." Nayara reminded him.
Nayara sighed, hesitantly coming closer to the man. "Look, Clark...." Nayara started. I can't believe I'm about to apologize to him. Nayara thought to herself. "I can help you look for her. But you got to close your eyes and breath." Nayara continued. "Come on, Clark. Just breath." Nayara said with the softest voice she could muster. "I helped you out with Deathstroke didn't I? Then I could help you out now. Come on, just trust me." Nayara added.
Superman closed his eyes, shocking both Batman and Nayara. "What happened, buddy?" Nayara asked him.
Clark opened his eyes again, throwing a card to Nayara. Nayara moved away, allowing the card to collide with the wall. She knelt down to pick it up and saw something she knew all to well. A joker. "Joker?" Nayara mumbled. She picked it up before standing from the floor. Nayara turned it around seeing a bat with a smile. "Well, why are you here if the Joker is in Gotham?" Nayara asked him.
Superman snapped his head to Batman. Nayara sighed, knowing what could happened next. So, she quietly moved to the sink in the kitchen and let the water flow. Superman tried to reach Batman but was stopped by a set of water hands stopping him.
"So, can I ask you a question? Why hurt poor Bats over there? Is that your way of saying you need help?" Nayara asked him.
"Idiot." Batman mumbled just as Superman broke out of the hold and aimed his laser eyes at Nayara. Nayara moved away just in time. "Clark, come on. Leave the kid alone." Batman said to him. Superman ran him to the wall but before he could get a good hold of him Batman had delivered a good punch to his face.
Nayara would have cheered if she was not in the situation she was in.
Superman picked himself up and was about to punch him again but stopped when he saw Nayara place herself in front of Batman. "Please, Clark." Nayara told him. "Why are you hurting Batman! For god sake! He is your friend." Nayara snapped at him. She glared at him with all her fury.
"He took Lois!" Clark yelled at her.
"No, he didn't." Nayara snapped back. "Where did you find that card you gave me, huh? Was it given to you?" Nayara asked him. "Because there is only one person who would have left this, and that is the Joker. Batman would have never done such thing. Now, cool down Mr. Rage because I swear I will fight you and not help you find Lois." Nayara yelled at him in his face hoping he will hear her.
Superman stopped for a second. Then suddenly, Nayara was thrown to the other side of the room. She groaned in pain as her side collided with a wall before falling into the floor. She struggled to gain breath into her lungs due to her pain being too much.
When Superman turned to face Batman, a fist collided with his face, then another. Superman groaned in annoyance and took a hold of Batman before flying off.
This only made Nayara's panic grew worse. "Oh my, Bruce. Oh god, Bruce." Nayara mumbled to herself, as she struggled to stand up. She closed her briefly. You get hurt, hurt them back. Nayara thought, thinking of Steve. "He will be so pissed off if when I tell him about this." Nayara said to herself before standing up with difficulty.
Her mind ran a hundred miles an hour as she tried to come up with a way to reach Batman without alerting the rest of the League, because if she did she would have to explain to Barry why he was there in the first place. Therefore, lie to him, which was not good.
Then an idea perked up on her head. She walked back to the destroyed apartment. She rang to her phone, dialing Wally's phone number in a hurry. When she heard the call being picked up, she did not hesitate to talk. "Walls, I need Nightwing's help right now. I'm in National City, and just...contact him. It's an emergency. Like a big one. Don't tell Barry." Nayara told him through the phone.
"What is it?" Wally asked her.
"It concerns Batman and Superman. I really need his help." Nayara said to him before hanging up the phone.
The young brunette looked at the light being emitted from the table. "This is bad idea. So bad." Nayara whispered to herself, as she walked to the ring in the dining table. She had no way of contacting the Batfamily, so there was one way to solve this. "I hope this works." She whispered to herself. "The things I do for Batman." She whispered to herself.
. . .
Superman and Batman fell into the small mountain miles away from National City. Batman stood up, cleaning the blood from his mouth. "Clark come on." Batman said, avoiding a punch. "I don't have Lois." Batman attempted to tell Superman.
"Then what was this!" Superman yelled at him. "That card had your symbol. Did you make a pack with him?" Superman yelled at him. Batman sighed, shaking her head.
"I didn't." Batman said before avoiding another punch before punching him again. However, Superman was quicker and punched him on the side of his chest so hard it sent him flying a few meters across from him. Batman stood up, raising his fist.
Batman avoided another punch, hoping that Superman's anger will eventually clear after a few minutes. It did not.
Superman was just getting started.
Superman used his strength to his upper hand. Especially when he threw rocks at Batman. The latter tried to avoid most of them but failed to do so on the last one. Before he it could collide with him, a pink shield emerged, blocking the hit.
The rock dropped to the floor, before being picked up again by a pink lasso. Superman was trying to understand what was happening, which gave enough chance for the rock to collide against him.
The force was so great that when he was thrown back by the hit, his made a big hole in the mountain. Superman shook his head, looking up to see a young woman with a pink suit standing next to Batman.
Batman looked at her. "Nightwing was taking too long." The girl who had a similar suit than the Green Lanterns said. "I tried flying, but I had to ask KF for a ride." The girl added. Batman sighed, shaking his head.
The victory was short lived because something flew off with Batman. "Oh come on! You couldn't stay in one place." Nayara screamed in annoyance before attempting to fly but failing. She sighed, watching as Superman was flying higher and higher up the sky.
However, before he could fly fully away from the place a small plane arrived. Without hesitating, the unknown person shot down Superman with a green gas. "You idiot." Nayara whispered to herself, watching as Superman fell down with Batman. "Alright, Nay. Come one, how do? A hand!" Nayara said, coming up with an idea. "Alright ring, don't fail me down." Nayara said, aiming the ring at Batman's falling figure.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she saw that holding Batman in the sky was a bright pink hand. Nayara sighed, carefully trying to put him down.
However, this stopped when something collided with her stomach, causing her to tumble over in pain. Nayara knelt down next to the floor, holding her stomach in agony. She looked up in panic watching as Superman took again a hold of Batman and started to beat him up for answer.
She stood up from the floor, approaching them with difficulty. "Please, just stop! Clark! Stop!" Nayara screamed at the top of her lugs. "He didn't do anything. He is your friend!" Nayara screamed louder this time.
She sighed, before gaining enough strength to push him off Batman. She stood in front of Batman body. "You want to get to him, well so be it. But try to lay another hand on him I swear to you will never see the light of the day again!" Nayara snapped at him.
"You can't beat me." Superman told her. Although, Nayara was not playing attention, because she was able to see Nightwing approaching with a small sphere in his hand behind Superman.
Nayara sighed, taking her mask off and looking at Clark. "Look, have you ever stopped to think that maybe you famous archenemies might be behind this? Lex Luthor." Nayara told him. "I know you are scare of loosing her, and also angry. I almost lost somebody too you know. A friend." Nayara told Clark. "Don't you remember when Kara was about to die in Star Labs? When she was unconscious. I was mad too. Furios, but I realized that I had to clear my mind to help her. That killing Deathstroke wouldn't have helped at all." Nayara reminded Superman.
"It wasn't your wife." Superman sighed. "Move, Nayara." Superman told her.
"No. I'm not letting you hurt him." Nayara said to him, standing taller. "Over my dead body." She whispered. Just as she turned around to look at Batman, she was pushed out of the way roughly.
Nayara groaned in pain as she fell back again against the side of the mountain. Nightwing, came closer and threw the sphere at Superman. He caught it with ease. Then Nightwing pressed a bottom on one of his wrist and the sphere opened, reviling the green gas made out of kryptonite.
Superman fell back a few feet but stood up. Nayara sighed, standing up to face him one last time. She made a fist out of the pink light in her ring, before sending it flying to Superman.
The hero with the red cape fell to the floor unconscious. Nayara sighed, walking quickly to Batman, who had Nightwing on his side. "Oh my! Are you okay?" Nayara asked him, looking down at him.
Batman just groaned, but kept his eyes closed. "You have to take him back. He needs medical attention." Nayara whispered to Nightwing.
"Who are you?" Nightwing asked her.
Nayara sighed, taking off her mask. "The one who called." Nayara answered. Nightwing smirked at her. "Are you sure he will be alright?" Nayara asked him.
"Yeah, he had had worst." Nightwing told her, picking up Batman. Nayara did not say anything else, instead he helped Nightwing carry Batman inside the plane. "Are you sure you are okay?" Nightwing asked her.
Nayara nodded at him. "Just so you know, umm...Bats left I think the Batplane in my apartment's roof." Nayara said, remembering the item that the man had left behind. "Umm...and honestly I don't know how to open it or how to move it so...ummm.." Nayara said with hesitation.
"Thanks." Nightwing told her. "Do you need a ride back?" Nightwing asked her. Nayara smiled, nodding along.
