NAYARA SAT SILENTLYon Kara's couch. After she had met Green Arrow, she had asked Barry to bring her back here despite him being so excited to present her his girlfriend. Before he left, Nayara had reminded him about how he needed to propose to Iris and remind her how much he loved her.
Nayara spread the newspaper from the Marvel world over the table. She looked at them as she thought of them. She knew that she wanted to change Steve's fate whatever the cost, even it she had to jump in front of the bullet. Although, since she had nobody to talk to, and more than free time she decided to try to come up with a plan about the Civil War. Maybe, if she found the reason behind it, the key cause of it, she would be able to stop it.
"Hulk vs Ross, yeah. Great fight, green big guy won. Ross defeated." Nayara said in thought as she looked at the paper in front of her. As she was about to note something down, a loud knock was heard.
Nayara stood up from her seat, walking to the door. She sighed, opening the door to reveal the big smile of the one and only Wally West. Nayara smiled at him. The boy had been all but kind and a great friend to her. It was nice to have someone else than Barry and Kara to talk to.
"Hey, Wally. What are you doing here in National City?" Nayara asked him, smiling lightly at him.
"I wanted to see how you were doing." Wally said, giving her a cheeky smile. Nayara shook her head.
"You didn't really have to go to all the trouble to come here. I bet the train ride took you forever." Nayara said, even though she knew that he had not necessarily had taken the train; but again he did not that she knew the truth about him.
Wally looked over Nayara's shoulder at the apartment. "Oh, yeah. Sorry, come in." Nayara said as she moved so that Wally could pass. Wally entered apartment and immediately spotted a picture of a blonde and Nayara.
He walked to it and picked it up. "That's my roommate Kara. She is a good friend of mine." Nayara said. Then she left to her room. The brunette returned with a picture of Emma Frost. She gave it to Wally. "That's my guardian. Her name is Emma. She took care of me when I had nobody else." Nayara said, smiling at the memory of Emma. "I lost my parents not so long ago, and she was there for me. You know, a year after I lost them I met Barry and my roommate Kara and everything seemed to brighten a lot for a while." Nayara said as she looked at the image over Wally's shoulder. It was the first time she had given information about herself to someone who she had just started to get to know personally.
"Do you miss them? Your parents?" Wally asked her.
"I do." Nayara said, her eyes dying down. "I might have lost one family, but I have gained another one." She added.
"I came here because...I thought....that maybe you would like to come to a party with me." Wally told her. Nayara smiled at him. "As friend, of course in a totally platonic way." Wally added.
"You want me to be your wingman?" Nayara asked, giving a wink to Wally. "I mean, the good thing about having a girl as a friend is that I could let you inside the mind of girls. That and I normally tend to be good at reading people." Nayara said, smiling lightly at him.
"Alright, I pick you up at six. Is that alright?" Wally asked her. Nayara nodded at him. Nayara walked Wally to the door, and opened it for him. Wally gave her a small wave before the door. Nayara heard the gush of wind hit the door, signaling his leaving.
. . .
"So? A party?" Kara asked her as she sat on her bed. Nayara walked out of the bathroom with a nice dress on.
"I don't know if it is formal or casual. I don't even know where it is. Maybe Wally has no idea where it is at all." Nayara sighed, looking at Kara.
"I like the dress. The red makes you stand out." Kara told her.
"I don't like standing out. Too much attention makes me a little bit embarrassed." Nayara admitted timidly.
Kara stood up from bed and walked to the girl's phone. She handed it to the brunette. "Text him to see what type of party it is." Kara told her. "Are you sure about this?" Kara asked her.
"Why?" Nayara asked her.
"You are going to the party with a stranger." Kara commented.
"It's Wally aka Kid Flash. I should be fine." Nayara said, instantly regretting as she reviled his identity to Kara. "I should get better at the whole hiding the identity thing." Nayara sighed, shaking her head. Kara laughed at her, shaking her head. "Can't I wear pants, I'm not used to skirts that much." Nayara told her.
Kara smiled and nodded. "Yep. I know the pain." Kara told her. Nayara smiled widely and walked to her clothe as her phone beeped. Kara looked at the phone seeing the text message.
From: Wally Wonka
It's normal. I wanted to present you to my friends.
Nayara walked back the bathroom. "He says, normal." Kara yelled from the outside. She waited a few seconds and saw Nayara change into something that made her look like herself. "Brilliant." Kara told her.
Nayara walked to Kara and gave her a tight hug. "Thank you for everything." Nayara told her before going back to the couch.
After a few minutes, a knock was heard. Nayara walked up to the door, opening to see a smiling Wally. "You don't look half bad, Wally." Nayara commented. "Oh, Wally this is my roommate Kara." Nayara told him, pointing at Kara that was behind her.
"I will bring her back on time. Before midnight." Wally told Kara. "I'm Wally by the way." He told her, shaking Kara's hand.
"Call if you need anything." Kara told her before giving her another hug. She closed the door after the two young adults were outside.
"Umm so...I need you tell you something first." Wally told her.
"Yeah?" Nayara asked him, giving him an encouraging smile.
"I'm Kid Flash." Wally told her, smiling at the girl. Nayara tried out her best surprised look. "I thought it was good telling you know before I used my super speed to get to the party." Wally commented her. Nayara nodded at him.
"Wow....I didn't know that." Nayara told Wally. "Umm...should we go." Nayara told him, hoping that he would not noticed the fake shocked face she had. Wally took her arm before speeding both of them off to the party.
. . .
Wally stood outside the big tower shaped like a 'T'. When Nayara saw it, her face paled a little. "W-what....w-what a-are we d-doing here?" Nayara asked him.
"The party is here." Wally told her.
"You bought me into a Teen Titans party?" Nayara asked him. Her mind going to slight panic. "I don't think I'm allowed inside." Nayara whispered to him.
"Oh, don't be like that." Wally told her, giving her a goofy smile. "You are working along Barry and me now. He told me he was going to train you." Wally added. Nayara nodded at him.
"But I'm not a superhero." Nayara commented.
"Not yet." Wally said, pointing at her before taking her arm. Before she could protest, he had used his speed to enter the party.
"You are a big idiot, Wally." Nayara whispered to him when she saw the amount of young heroes. Then she spotted someone with the Green Hood on the back of the room. "You got chaperones." She whispered to him.
"Come on, Nayara just be yourself. Lots of people would love to be friends with you." Wally told her.
"I like a small group of friends. I'm comfortable with just you, Barry and Kara." Nayara told Wally. "This is a bad idea." Nayara whispered when she saw Green Arrow look her way. She looked down, frowning lightly. "This isn't a great idea, what about security?" Nayara asked him.
"Oh, it really doesn't matter. I mean you over wrote the one in Mount Justice, didn't you?" Wally joked. Nayara shook her head in panic. "You...didn't." He sighed.
"Flash bought me there because I was a big find of the Justice League. He was returning a favor." Nayara explained to him. "How the hell do you know that?" Nayara asked him.
"I heard a conversation between Batman Wonder Woman." Wally told her. He regretted when he saw Nayara's face paled even more.
"Oh my, now I'm wanted by Wonder Woman too." Nayara sighed. She looked down at the floor.
"Wally! You made it." A female voice said. Wally looked up and smiled at his friend. "Who is this?" She asked, looking at Nayara.
"This is Nayara, my friend." Wally said, softly elbowing Nayara side so she would look up. Nayara turned to look at Wally with a slight glare. "Nayara, can I present you to a friend." Wally said, montioning the girl to look to her side.
The brunette did and was face with a slightly taller girl around her age with raven hair. She gave Nayara a small smile. "I'm Donna. How you doing?" She asked her. Nayara gave her a nervous smile and shook her hand.
"N-nice to m-meet you." Nayara stuttered. Wally smiled at Nayara.
"I will go and get some food, while you talk to Donna. Bye." Wally said before leaving. He knew that the girl would remain quiet if he stayed by her side. If he left, then she would be – or so he thought – forced to interact with others and make new friends.
You were about to call his name but he had left. Nayara sighed, shaking her head. "So, where are you from?" Donna asked her.
"Gotham." Nayara mumbled looking at her in awe. She knew who she was from some of the Wonder Woman comics she had read.
"Really? Well, then you got to meet Wing when he appears." Donna joked to her. Nayara gave her a worried smile. "How do you know Barry?" Donna asked her, trying to start a conversation.
"We work together." Nayara said, continuing to keep her answers short. "With the Flash." She quickly added.
"That's cool." Donna told her.
From over her shoulder she could see Green Arrow walk towards them. "Hey, so what-" Donna started but she got cut off the member of the Justice League.
"Nayara, long time not see." The Green Arrow told her. Nayara sighed, looking at the floor. "Can I borrow her for a second?" The said hero asked Donna. The girl nodded, seeing the two of them walk away from the group. Green Arrow opened the door to the terrace and Nayara followed.
"What are your intensions?" The Green Arrow asked her.
"Going to a party. Have a fun." Nayara commented.
"What are you really doing here?" He asked her, glaring at her as he stepped closer to her.
Nayara did not move. Instead she just glared. "I get that you are cranky because you got to chaperone those kids, but don't take it out on me." Nayara snapped at him. "And to answer your question, I was invited by a friend. Kid Flash." She added, looking at the Green Arrow without the slight fear. "You don't intimidate me. I have seen worst." Nayara whispered to him.
Nayara was about to enter but the Green Arrow to her arm. Nayara pushed him off, holding her head high. "I hold a lot of respect to you Green Arrow. I do not hold any bad intentions. If I had, I would have done it by now. So, I'm going to go and try and find my friend." She said before entering the room. She sighed, seeing Wally flash in front of her.
"Hey, so did you made friends with Donna. She is quite cool. I think you guys would get along." Wally told her. Nayara smiled but it do not reach her eyes. "You are alright?" He asked her.
"Yeah, I'm going to get something to drink." She said, walking to were she presumed the drinks were.
She took a cup of water and looked around the room. Wally was chatting with a bright red-haired boy who looked slightly older. He had red glasses and a red baseball cap on his head. Roy, she thought. She silently looked around the room, smiling at the sight of heroes she knew.
"You are Wally's friend?" A male voice said behind her. Nayara looked at the person who had spoken from over her shoulder. When she saw the bright blue bird on his suit she started to choke on her water.
She coughed, looking away from him. She felt a pat on the back, as she tried to remain some tranquility. "Are you okay?" He asked her, standing next to her. Nayara nodded, unable to answer. Her cheeks turned scarlet out of embarrassment.
Nayara closed her briefly, taking the bridge of her nose. She took some deep breath before opening them again. The bright color of her cheeks never faded. "Are you sure you are okay?" He asked her.
Nayara nodded at him. "You don't speak?" He asked her.
"I do." Nayara quickly choked out. "I...umm...sorry. I...umm...good. I'm good." Nayara stuttered, trying to form a sentence, but failed horribly. The boy chuckled at her, and that eased her nerves. "Donna told me you were from Gotham." He told her.
"Yeah." Nayara mumbled, looking at his face. Then she looked away, scared she would not be able stop.
"Nayara." Wally said, coming into view. He walked to them. "Oh, this is my best friend. Nayara meet-" Wally said to her.
"Nightwing." The boy said to her.
Nayara gave him a small smile, the best she could muster. Both boys greeted each other happily while Nayara was dying inside. "You okay?" Wally asked her, looking at her bright colored cheeks. Nayara nodded in response. "Why aren't you talking?" Wally asked her.
Nayara reminded quiet as her cheeks went brighter. She looked at Nightwing before walking away from the scene. The said hero watched her go. "I don't know what's up with her. She is normally more talkative." Wally mumbled.
"Who is she?" Nightwing asked him his eyes still where the girl had been. The girl he had once saw in Mount Justice.
"That's Nayara. She is a friend. She helps the Flash around. She is living in National City right now." Wally told him. "I will be back, I'm going to check up on her." Wally said before reaching his friend.
She was outside in the terrace, looking at the skyline ahead. She had her hands covering her face as she leant her arms on the border. That was embarrassing Nayara, why couldn't you talk?Nayara thought to herself.
Wally sighed, standing next to her. Nayara took her hands away from her face as she looked at Wally. Her cheeks were still red, but less so than before. "I'm sorry if you aren't enjoying this party. I thought you would. I thought it would be a good idea to...you know....let you meet the Teen Titans. Barry mentioned briefly you were a big fan of people in mask, and since Cisco is thinking of making you a suit....I thought that maybe I could introduce you to them so when you do decide to join you wouldn't be so lost." Wally confessed to her.
Nayara gave him a weak smile. Then she did something that he was not expecting at all. She hugged him. Wally smiled, hugging her back. Nayara pulled away, shaking her head. "It was nice." She commented.
"But you didn't like it." Wally told her.
"I'm just really shy when it comes to my favorite hero of Gotham." Nayara whispered to Wally, who replied with a crackle. Nayara gave him a tired look.
"I thought that was Batman." Wally commented.
"Yeah, but I mean. Nightwing is Nightwing. I wasn't expecting him at all." Nayara whispered to him, unable to look at him. Wally smiled at her, and he jokingly pushed her shoulder. "Please don't tell him that." She quickly told him.
"I wouldn't." Wally told her.
Nayara phone beeped. Nayara looked at the ID call seeing it was Barry. "Hello? Barry?" Nayara asked.
"It's Cisco. We have a very big problem." Cisco told her through the phone.
"What is it?" She asked him.
"It's Kara." Cisco told her. "She isn't well and Barry told me you knew how to deal with this type of stuff." Cisco added. The color faded away from Nayara's face. Nayara hang up and looked at Wally.
"Wally, I need a huge favor from you." Nayara said, looking at him dead in his eyes.
. . .
Wally dropped off Nayara in Star Labs. The brunette saw her beloved blonde laying on a medical bay. "Kara." The girl whispered before racing to her. She looked at Kara who was paler than usual.
"Did she got hit with Kryptonite?" Nayara asked, walking around the blonde.
"We already took it out." Cisco commented, running to her side. "We don't know what is wrong with her." Cisco added.
"Kara, can you hear me?" Nayara whispered, looking down at her. "What the hell happened? Where is Barry?" Nayara asked him.
"He is warning the League about an attack." Cisco informed her.
Nayara walked to the computers. "Contact Alex Danvers for help." Nayara told Cisco as she paced around the room. "Did she consumed something? Got hit with something?" Nayara asked him.
"Nothing. She just plummeted, Barry said." Cisco told her. "Maybe she got poisoned by something? Food? Maybe it was a gad, but then Barry would have been accepted as well." Cisco told her.
Nayara shook her head. "No. The only thing that could actually hurt her is Kryptonite. The only person who has a bunch of it-" Nayara stopped when she realized who would have been behind the attack. "That little bastard. Three arrows weren't enough!" Nayara yelled in annoyance, making both boys jump. Nayara walked to the desk. "Contact the Green Arrow, and Barry right now." Nayara told Cisco. "It's Lex Luthor we are looking for." Nayara added, her eyes turning dark out of fury.
However, before Cisco could contact the people who Nayara was trying to contact, a body flew towards Nayara. It lifted her up in the hair.
Nayara looked at the red eyes of Kara's cousin. "Get me down. You idiotic laser eyes! I don't have the time for our usual insults." Nayara yelled at Superman's face. "I said down!" Nayara yelled even louder, making everyone flinch.
"What did you do to my cousin?" He asked her. Nayara clenched her jaw and just glared at him. "What did you do to her?" He asked her, his eyes turning a brighter red.
"You have a cousin? Well, I didn't know since you never act like it." Nayara snapped back. His eyes turned brighter. "Come on, use your laser eyes. I'm the only one that know who attacked her. So, unless you don't want to know you have to let me go." Nayara added.
Superman let her go. Nayara relaxed when she was caught by Wally. She sighed, moving her arm that was now hurting. "Brute." Nayara mumbled under her breath.
"You had the perfect cover. Her roommate." Superman said to her.
"Oh shut up, Clark." Nayara snapped back at him. He was startled by the mention of his name. "Don't look surprised. Glasses aren't the best thing to hide your identity. I know who you could ask for help? Batman. Clearly he is the smartest out of the two of you." Nayara added, glaring at him.
Superman took a step to her, and Wally quickly moved to be in between the two of them. "You either let me save the life of my best friend, or you would see true fury." Nayara snapped at him as she walked to Cisco.
"Maybe you were just a traitor. How much did Lex pay you?" Superman asked her. Nayara shook her head before turning to face him with her head high.
"I would never do something to my best friend. Let me tell you something, since you are so blinded by rage, I would help you out." Nayara said, stepping around Wally. "If it came to the point where there was one kryptonite bullet left to be used on neither of us. I would have taken it because I could not see myself without my best friend. You don't know how much Kara means to me. Nor how she has helped me, how she has saved my life countless of time, how she has been there to pick me up when someone has pushed me down. She has always been there to remind me of who I am and who I could be. So shut your alien mouth and listen. That is of course if you have already known who did this and how to fix it." Nayara said in low deadly voice.
Cisco looked at her with wide eyes. "She is fighting Superman." Cisco mumbled. Wally sighed, looking at Superman. The man took some steps back. "She didn't even flinch." Cisco said.
"Hello?" Nayara heard a voice from the computer. Nayara gave one last brief glare to Superman before walking to the computers. "Alex? It's Nayara. It's Kara. Flash took her to Star Labs. She is not waking up. I still don't know what happened or what is going with her. There is not a single Kryptonite that we can see." Nayara said to Alex with urgency in her voice.
The older sister of Kara looked at the girl. "I would ask for a sunbed, but that is useless until we can see what can deal her. That is the only thing that can actually hurt her." Nayara commented.
"Stay with her. I'm my way there." Alex told her. Nayara nodded before the call ended. She looked up just to see Superman walk to his cousin. She kept her eyes towards him, she noticed how Superman could not keep still. He was frowning.
"We can't not see it." Nayara whispered to herself in thought. Wally looked at her. "Hand me Cisco's bat that is under the table." Nayara told Wally. Wally was about to question, but Nayara send him a look that told him not to. He listened.
Nayara walked to Clark. "We are going to do an experiment." Nayara said, before lightly hitting him on the arm. Clark flinched, making Nayara frown. "You are being exposed." Nayara whispered to herself, and Clark heard her.
She walked around the bed, looking at Kara's side, unable to see any sight of kryptonite. "Cisco, can you make a radioactivity scan, and a blood scan of Kara?" Nayara asked him. Cisco looked at her in thought before nodding. "We can't not see it, but it doesn't mean it isn't there. It is inside her." Nayara told him.
"Need a hand." A voice said as it entered the lab. Nayara looked up to Flash and Batman. Nayara gave a small smile to Batman.
"Yeah, I know what we can do to find out what's wrong with her, but I don't know how to do it myself." Nayara told both men.
"She wants to check for kryptonite in her blood system." Nayara told them. "My theory has been proven since brute over here flinched when I hit him. Kryptonite is armful for all Kryptonians. If it is in her system, then it would explain why she is so sick and isn't getting better." Nayara explained to them.
Batman send a small smile to Superman when he heard Nayara call him a brute. The latter hero glared at him.
"Actually, guys. We have a problem." Cisco said from the computers. Nayara walked to the computers and looked at them. "Umm we got a guy with a mask." Cisco said.
"Deathstroke." Nayara corrected him. She tilted her head looking at it in thought. "What is he doing?" Nayara asked him. Cisco clicked and turned on the sound.
"I'm looking for Superman! A friend of mine heard he was on town. Now come on before I destroy this city with this." Deathstroke said, holding a controller.
"He seems easy to defeat. I would-" Wally started saying but Nayara cut him off.
"Don't be so easily deceived. That is Deathstroke. He is enhanced and it's hard to kill. Even Green Arrow struggles with him." Nayara informed Wally.
"I would go." Superman said. Before he could step out of the room, Nayara let out a light laugh. He turned to her, glaring at her. "What's so funny?" Superman asked her.
"You are walking straight into a trap. You might think strong and all that jazz, but let me remind you that he might have a bunch of Kryptonite just for you. He is not dumb." Nayara told him, shrugging. "but it's your decision. We might not get along just yet, but you are Kara's cousin and Louis Lane's boyfriend. I don't want my favorite reporter and my best friend to suffer because you think you are better than that guy. So, your choice." Nayara told Superman.
"I would go." Barry told her.
"No, you do the blood analysis. I would deal with this guy myself." Nayara told him.
"No." Barry told her, shaking his head.
"Oh, please." Nayara scoffed. "I survived his attack back in the arrowcave. I even saved the Green Arrow's life against that moron. I think I can buy you enough time." Nayara said, getting ready to leave.
"You need a code name." Wally noted, giving a light smile to Nayara.
"No code names." Barry told him, sending him a look. Wally ignored it and smirked at Nayara.
Nayara returned the smirk. "Swan would do." Nayara answered Wally, ignoring Barry's words.
Batman remained looking at Nayara, trying to understand her. "That isn't scary." Batman told her.
Nayara replied with a light laugh. "Batman is neither. Don't worry, I do too have an obsession with bats." Nayara said before starting to walk away with Wally. Cisco looked at Batman who glared at where Nayara had previously been standing. Then he looked at Cisco who gulped.
. . .
A/N: I found this image on the internet and it cracked me up because it reminded me of Nayara and her story line so much. This of course is not going to happen for a while, but it cracked me up so much. I love Dick Grayson so much. He is my favorite Robin. My Nightwing.
