37 | THE INCIDENT WITH THE BRIDGE

NAYARA WALKED INSIDE the coffee shop with Barry. "Alright so I had one question I have been dying to ask." Nayara said as she followed him inside.

"One of many the many you have asked me non-stop?" Barry asked her. Nayara had woken up really early on the morning, just to go to coffee with Barry.

"So, have you proposed to Iris yet?" Nayara asked him. Barry stopped roughly at the question. He turned to look down at the girl in thought.

He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm guessing that is a no." Nayara said, laughing at Barry's reaction.

"That was not a question I was expecting." Barry told her. "I was going to propose to her...but the different world thing happened." Barry whispered to her.

Nayara's eyes widen at the news. "Are you telling me that you almost don't propose because of that!" Nayara exclaimed. "What if I didn't figure out a way to get you back? No Westallen wedding?" Nayara said in panic.

"I heard how you talked about me and Iris and I didn't want to stress you out." Barry added. He gulped when he saw the deadly glare that Nayara was giving him.

"You got a ring, right? Right." Nayara said to Barry, who nodded at her. "I'm just that I really want you to marry her because I know you are happy and would have beautiful meta-children and a speedster's grandson." Nayara said, but then cringed when she realized what she said. "And I might have just affected the time line, but it couldn't have been as much as you have done." Nayara whispered to Barry.

Barry sighed. "Boy or girl?" Barry asked her.

"Barry." Nayara sighed. She sent him a look, and he got quiet. "I am not going to tell you." She added.

. . .

Cisco groaned in annoyance as Barry called him for the tenth time in a matter of seconds. Nayara had stopped replying after the fourth call. "Nayara." Cisco called her out. Nayara looked up to him and caught the phone just in time.

"Talk to him. He has been calling me non-stop." Cisco said to him.

"Alright." Nayara sighed, picking up the call. "Hello, you are calling to Cisco Ramon's phone. This is Nayara. Who am I speaking with?" Nayara said in her best assistant voice.

"I am just wondering about the entire grandchildren thing you told me." Barry told her as he waited for one of the tubes to finis analyzing.

"What, you met with Impulse?" Nayara asked him, as she noted down an improvement in the suit. Next to her, there were some tools that she had designed who she believed it would be useful. She had the idea, and Cisco dealt with making them. "Because if that is the case, then we got a problem. He dresses on a suit like Kid Flash but it's red and white instead of yellow and red." Nayara said as she stood up with some of her papers on her hands. She passed them to Cisco as she talked to Barry.

"I got a meta-human grand kid? A boy named Impulse?" Barry questioned her, amazed by the news. Nayara swore loudly, making Barry flinch from the other side of the line. Cisco lifted his head to look of an annoyed Nayara.

"I would shut up. Don't call unless it is an emergency." Nayara said, shaking her head. "Go and do your CSI Barry. I'm not letting you know anything else." She said before hanging up the phone. She handed the phone to Cisco and shook her head.

. . .

Nayara sighed, taking her sweater with her. She looked at Cisco. "I'm going for a walk." Nayara said. Cisco nodded at her. "May the force be with you." She said before leaving. Cisco smiled at the reference.

Nayara needed time to breath and clear her head. She needed to think before she spoke. The girl had lost that reflex ever since Kara and Barry had come to her world. She had finally somebody to rant about the troubles within her old world. Now she was again in a new world, with at least people who she was friends with.

The brunette continued to walk, keeping her eyes opened. She was trying to walk back to the abandoned dock she had found before.

On her path to the dock, the brunette had to pass a bridge since it was on the other side of the river. However, she stopped when she felt the floor shake. Nayara knelt down. Her eyes widen when she saw the bridge start to break in half. She could not see the cause of it, so she decided to come nearer to see. Nayara ran to the bridge and stopped when she saw a man breaking the pavement.

She raised her hood, knowing she had to do something. She saw a blur appeared in the bridge as it continued to break. The Flash was fighting him but was unaware of how unstable the bridge was.

"Barry is so going to kill me for this." Nayara whispered before running near a bridge. A side of it had started to tilt and Nayara raised both of her hands hoping that her plan might work. She focused narrowing her eyes at the side of the bridge. Water lifted up from the river, and some hands formed out of it.

They were holding the bridge.

Nayara saw the meta-human grew mad, and as Flash was helping others he pushed some off the edge of the bridge. Nayara while holding one hand on one side tilted the other drawing her attention on the people who were falling.

The giant bubbles of water had prevented them from a hard death. The bubble drawer them back to safety. Flash looked at it, confused on what was happening. He was distracted and was not seeing the attack that was coming his face.

Splash!

The bubble had flown in front of Barry, creating a thick coating wall that prevented the hit. Then Nayara draw one harm back before throwing it forward. The water flew straight to the meta-human and making him fall to the floor.

Flash quickly pulled the people to safety before dealing with the villain. Nayara saw the Flash gone, and the bridge empty. She sighed, letting go of it. She looked around, before quickly fleeing the scene with an accomplished look on her face.

. . .

Cisco watched from his screen the incident of the bridge. He frowned, seeing the water build a protective wall in front of Barry. He looked at it in thought. He picked up his microphone. "Hey, Barry, what was that water thing going on?" Cisco asked him.

"I don't know. But it happened when I was fighting Captain Cold as well. The water came to life." Barry said as he bought people to safety.

Cisco looked at the different security cameras, trying to find an abnormality. He spotted one. A tall person with a grey hooded sweater covering them. Cisco, looked at the security cameras in one computer while trying to rewind the footage on others.

"I think we have another meta-human. Barry." Cisco said, following the person through the street. "Our meta is going through st.claire's and 67th." Cisco said, looking at the footage. "Right up the alley. I can't see them from there." He murmured.

Barry speed up to where Cisco had told him and stopped when he saw the 'meta-human'. "Hey, I hope you are friendly." Barry told the person hidden behind the sweater that looked familiar.

Nayara held her breath as she saw who had stopped in front of her. Nayara looked at Barry thought her hood. She saw him narrow his eyes at her. He came closer, seeing how she did not moved. When he was close enough, she removed the hood.

Barry froze, looking at Nayara's face. "I was just trying to help." Nayara whispered to him. Barry looked over his shoulder before taking a hold of her, and speed her to Star Labs.

. . .

Barry sat opposite to Nayara who was sitting on the hospital bed quietly. He had no words, and this worried Nayara a lot.

She thought she was about to lose him like she did with Steve.

"Barry...I...I didn't tell you because I thought it was no important. I mean, I even lack practice with it. I was going to practice and then you and Kara came, and I forgot about it for a while. I saw the man getting frozen at the train, and I knew I could help so I did." Nayara said, unable to look at Barry. "I got it from the world you found me in. I am a mutant. I...I-I can control water." Nayara said to Barry. "I-I just tried to help you out." Nayara added.

"It was you on the bridge, Cisco saw you." Barry said, looking at her, but Nayara did not meet his eyes. She was too afraid to see that look. The look of pure shame and disappointment. "You splashed Captain Cold, didn't you?" Barry asked her.

Nayara hummed a response. "You are from a totally different world? That's awesome." Cisco said, making Nayara jump. Barry send him a look. "Oh, dynamic meta-duo talk? Okay." Cisco said, starting to leave the room. He quickly came back. "Like? For real? The same one Barry just returned from? That's really cool." He added.

"Cisco." Barry sighed. Cisco nodded before walking away. Barry messaged his forehead as he accepted Nayara's silent as a yes. "Why didn't you tell me?" Barry asked her.

"Are you mad?" Nayara asked him unsure.

Barry shook his head. He sent a sympathetic look at Nayara. "I just wasn't expecting it. I'm not mad." Barry whispered to the girl who seemed like she was about to cry. The girl did not believe it. He put a supported hand on hers. "It thinks it is pretty damn cool that you saved those people." Barry whispered to her. Nayara smiled at him, before she hugged him. Barry returned the girl the hug. "And you saved me from a pretty bad bruise eye." He joked. Nayara let out a soft laugh as she pulled away.

"Emma didn't know." Nayara told Barry. "Only Steve and Logan do. I never got to tell her. I don't know. I just thought that...maybe she would get more concerned about me, and I didn't want her to be." Nayara explained to Barry.

Nayara hesitated before asking one certain question. "Does this mean that I can go and help you around?" Nayara asked him. "I mean, it would help with the line and everything. Please come on." Nayara told Barry.

"No." Barry sighed. Nayara looked down. "You could get hurt, and that is not all fun and games." Barry told her.

"I am aware of that." Nayara told him. She sighed, standing up from the medical bed. She gave one last look at Barry before walking away. She stopped at the edge of the room, seeing the concerned Barry. She felt the guilt start to plant its seed inside of her. She did not want to worry Barry. She sighed, looking at the little ball that he had given her yesterday...

Nayara looked down at the small ball in her hand. "What is this? Gas bomb? Gravity changer or something?" Nayara asked him.

Barry shook his head. "It is a bridge opener. Me and Cisco worked on it for a while. It helps. I even fixed it so that it would lead you to your world, back to Emma and Peter." Barry told her. "That is the birthday present I told you to wait for." He added.

Nayara smiled at him. "Thank you, Barry." She said before giving him a hug.

"Is so that you can go back whenever you want." Barry explained to her. "I still got to work with Cisco to configure it to bring you back to your original family, but that might take a while." Barry added.

"It's okay. I got a new family. I don't feel that alone anymore. I got you, Kara, Emma, Logan...Steve. I know you would always have my back. Even Theodore who has been helping non-stop with everything." Nayara said smiling at Barry...

Barry sighed, putting his head on his hand. He looked up seeing Cisco walk inside. "Hey." Barry said to him.

"Man, I'm already planning a suit. Did you saw that? That was brilliant." Cisco said, pointing to where Nayara had left. "She held the bridge with water hands. Do you know how much water you need for that? Even to slow down that punch. I think she might even be able to change the density and clearly the temperature of water." Cisco said in thought.

"No suit, Cisco." Barry told Cisco.

"Why not?" Cisco asked. "I mean, does are great powers right there. She might just need some training, just like Wally did. Just like you did." Cisco added.

"I'm....I just want her to stay out of all this, Cisco." Barry told him.

"Well, clearly you haven't been doing a good job." Cisco replied.

"I promised that I would look after her while she was still here." Barry told Cisco. "I'm going to keep that promise. She have been through...through a few stops." Barry sighed. His phone buzzed. He swore loudly when he checked the time. "I have to go and pick up Iris. Nayara is going to be so excited." Barry told Cisco with a big smile.

"Why?" Cisco asked him.

"Because Nayara is big fan of her." Barry said before speeding off.

"How does she even know her is she is from a different world?" Cisco asked confused.

. . .

Barry opened the door for Iris. "Welcome home." He told her, leading her inside. "Nayara has been looking forward to meet you, non-stop." Barry told his girlfriend as he helped her inside. "Nay!" Barry called out for her, but she did not reply.

"I'm really excited to me the girl who saved your life." Iris said before kissing Barry's cheek. "So, you were saying she is from a different world?" Iris asked him.

"Yeah, a different one where I found her. It's a long story." Barry sighed. He walked around the apartment but did not see her. He frowned at it. He sighed, returning to Iris with a less excited smile. "She might be with Kara, her roommate." Barry told Iris. Although deep down, he knew that it was not the case.

. . .

Nayara walked down the street, stopping at a newspaper stand. She looked at the news, frowning when she saw them.

X-Men damned illegal, New Warriors new television, Hulk vs Ross, Remove mutants.

Nayara brushed the hair of her face as she looked at them. "Are you going to buy one?" the man from the stand said.

Nayara sighed, looking at them. "Actually, all this four." Nayara said, pulling out her money. She handed the man the money and accepted the change before picking up the newspapers.

The girl who had her hood up walked along the streets of Manhattan towards her home. She looked over her shoulder at the Avengers' tower before continuing walking down the street. She arrived at her apartment and opened the door to see Emma.

The brunette just needed some time to think. She was scare that deep down Barry was mad about her powers. Just like Steve had been when she kept Loki away from him. She was scared to see him mad, to lose him.

"Emma." Nayara whispered. The blonde woman stood up quickly from the couch and ran to her. She touched her arm, not believing what she was seeing. Nayara smiled before hugging the woman tightly.

Emma let out a choked laugh as she hugged her bad tightly. "I needed to come home." Nayara whispered to her as her tears started to fall, out fear of course.

Emma pulled way, looking at the girl with a big smile. "I'm glad you are home." Emma whispered to her. "What are you doing here?" Emma asked, brushing the hair off Nayara's face.

"I-" The girl did not finish her sentence because she heard knocking from the door. Nayara quickly hid as Emma walked to the door.

Emma opened, seeing Steve Rogers inside. "Emma, hi." Steve told her. "I...Have you seen Nayara?" Steve asked her. He looked at the apartment from Emma's shoulder, looking for the girl.

"I told you. Nayara left. She has not come home." Emma lied to the hero, uncociously closing the door a little more.

Steve shook his head at her. "You're lying." Steve told her.

"I'm not-" Emma said.

"You are. I know she is in here. Emma, I have to talk to Nayara. I need to ask her some questions." Steve told her. He knew the girl was inside. He had set up the same alarm that the girl had previously set up just for the Winter Soldier.

Nayara in a panic crashed against the stand next to her, making a few pictures fall to the ground. Steve was about to enter, but Emma blocked his way. "No." She told him, glaring at him. Nayara closed her eyes, trying to calm her breathing. Steve was here to question her about Loki!

"I'm going to ask you to leave." Emma told him.

"Move." Steve said to her.

"You move. This is my house!" Emma snapped at his face so loud that the soldier flinched. "And if you think you can come and barge in just because you were friends with Nayara then you are an absolute idiot." Emma whispered to him in a threatening tone.

Nayara looked down at the newspaper in her hand, the fight between her two protectors fading as she focused on the reading.

Tony Stark to hold a conference about new law passed to protect it's citizen.

'Protect your children and yourselves' and 'your safety is your main protection' are some of the highly repeated slogans of Senator Kelly and colleagues. We live in a word and age where we can look outside the window a see a man flying, a Norse God, and an ex-assassin fighting for our liberty without restrictions. Would they be to blame if destruction caused hundreds of deaths? Will they be dismissed? These are some of the questions constantly asked by thousands of citizens across the nation. Some of whom even argue that said heroes establish more of a threat than safety. This are untested waters. Nobody has publicly argued against such famous heroes. The criticism is always there, but the extent of persecution is minimal. Or so it seems until now. Hundreds of people are questioning their safety, especially powerful one. The division between should the government do something or not is a debate that would inevitably divide the nation. Senator Kelly wants to introduce the Superhero Registration Act, one that seems to be targeting particularly mutants, whom are currently fleeing with everything they can....

See more on page 4A.

Nayara shook her head as she read it. She looked at the picture of Senator Kelly. She knew what this was leading. She knew what the consequences would be if she stayed any longer. Hoping for the best, she took a shot at running to her room.

In that mini-second where Steve saw the brunette run, he raced after her. Nayara speed up and locked her room door. "Nayara! Open the door!" Steve yelled. Nayara shook her head, looking for her pack of notes she had written.

She walked to the shelfs filled with book. She looked at her most hated book, and took it out. The shelf moved slightly reviling a room inside of it. She walked to the table, and opened the locked metal box.

She sighed when she opened. Inside were the comics she had bougtht up to this world. She took a hold of some of them and left the box opened with all her 'special notes' that she knew one certain person would find them. She closed the room, and turned to the trashed bag that had been with her since she came to her world. She put the comics inside, and a few more stuff as the door to her room started to shake.

"Nayara, please open." Steve told her from the other side. Emma watched him from a distance waiting for him to leave. She knew that Nayara was not going to talk to him just yet. She hoped that the blonde hero would grow tired of the door and leave.

She did not know that Steve was a resilient man, just like Nayara.

"No." Nayara said softly from behind the door. "No, Rogers." She sighed.

"I just want to talk to you, Nayara. Come on open the door." Steve said, his voice softer.

"You might hate me now, and later on, Rogers. But all I ever wanted was to help you." Nayara told him. "Are the rest alright? D-Di-Did the cure work?" Nayara asked him, a little concern over the Avengers.

Steve let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. "They are alright." Steve sighed. "I can tell you in more detail if you opened the door." Steve said.

"I might be young, but I'm not foolish." Nayara sighed, walking backwards to her desk. She noted down a small note for Steve. She smiled sadly as she opened the window out of her apartment.

Steve knocked again at the door. "Nayara, I don't hate you." Steve yelled from the other side. "I'm just worried. I need to ask you a few questions." Steve said to her.

"About Loki, I know." Nayara said, shaking her head as she put one foot in the fire escape. "I didn't help him in any plan whatsoever. I know you would not be proud if I did. Your opinion means a lot to me, Steve. You are my friend, and my hero." Nayara yelled back. "A war is coming, please take care of yourself." She yelled before closing the door and fleeing the apartment.

Steve sighed, kicking the door. He looked around the room, seeing that the girl had left without a trace once more. He walked to the window and opened it, but she was long gone.

"I'm surprised she talked to you." Emma told him, kneeling to move the new resistant door out of the way. "You know I had this door designed in case something tried to enter. I guess it came with a malfunction." Emma sighed. Steve did not reply as he looked around the room. "What are you doing?" Emma asked her, annoyed at him.

"Trying to find a clue of where she went." Steve told her.

"Why? She is safe." Emma replied. She rolled her eyes. "You would never find her here, Rogers. She is gone. She is away and safe." Emma told him.

Steve stopped at a desk, seeing something on it. He looked at the note that had his name on it. He took it, reading it carefully.

I don't know how the war starts, but I know its near. Pick your allies carefully, Steve. For help, just look for me where I escape to. Look for the opposite of what I believe and answers you will find. I would have come up with a better rime but I have to go. Don't give up. Don't you dare feel bad because of the people who will oppose you, because of the friends who would pick another side.

- N.L.F

Steve sighed, walking out of the apartment. "I will pay for the door, I promise." Steve yelled at Emma as he left.

Emma sighed, shaking her head. "Good luck with that." Emma sighed.

. . .

Nayara sighed as she hesitated before knocking the door at the apartment. She was expecting Aunt May to open it, but instead it was Peter. "Hey, Peter." She mumbled, looking at him with hesitation.

Peter was shocked to see her. She knew she had done a huge mistake by leaving without saying good-bye. Maybe because she never intended to do so because she was afraid of what it meant: leaving Peter behind and possibly never seeing him again. There are many versions of goodbyes, one that last until the next day, others that last a life time or if you are lucky a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. She did not know which ones of those was her goodbye.

Nayara stood in front of Peter with a flustered look on her face as she waited for his reaction. Peter looked at her in a daze before pulling her into a hug. Nayara gladly hugged back tightly. Hell, she missed these hugs.

Peter motioned her to come inside. Nayara entered, holding both her hands together. "Peter....I'm sorry about..." Nayara said, but could not continue on. She could not reveal where she was staying, or with who. She looked sadly at Peter before shaking her head

"I love you." Peter blurted out.

Nayara froze, looking at him. She was expecting some random comment of why she had not been answering her phone, or a question of where she had been but there was none of that. Nayara should now start expecting the unexpecting, she was stuck in a world she could only imagine in her dreams.

Nayara unfroze, giving the boy a slight smile. "I..." She hesitated before telling him. How was she going to tell him that she had to leave? How would he react. The boy standing in front of her loved her like he had never loved somebody else. What if she answered him that she loved him too? What consequences would it have?

Peter saw the hesitation in her and looked down at the floor. It was his time to be shocked. Nayara had gave him a soft kiss, smiling through it. "I love you. I love you so much Peter Parker. You have no idea." She whispered to him.

Peter smiled at her as he pulled away. "I...I have to go. Umm...it is just going to be for a while...and I wanted to say goodbye." Nayara mumbled, looking at him.

Peter frowned, looking at her in thought. "Where are you going?" Peter asked her.

"I can't say. I'm going to safe though. I trust you." Nayara told him. "I'm just...have to leave. I really do." Nayara told him.

"Why?" Peter asked her.

"Emma told me it would be safer if I left." Nayara sighed.

Peter put his hands on her shoulders. "If you are being followed by somebody, I can protect you and I would-" Peter started, but I cut him off.

"No, Peter. This is bigger than you. Than the both of us. I....I know what is coming....and I think I know why Emma wants me away. I understand that. Just...I have to go." Nayara told him. A loud knock startled the two of them.

"Just wait here." Peter said before kissing her cheek. He walked to the door. Nayara sighed when she saw Steve outside. "Umm...hi...Steve." Peter said greeting him. "What are you doing here?" Peter asked him.

"Nayara is here." Steve said, suddenly walking inside. Steve stopped when he saw her. Nayara frowned, stepping away from him. Peter quickly walked to Nayara and stood between the two. "Where have you been Nayara?" Steve asked her.

Nayara shook her head, looking at him. "Silent treatment?" Steve asked her. Nayara nodded at him. She looked at the glass of water in the table near. She held her hands behind her back, and moved as she kept her eyes on Steve.

A sudden splash of water hit Steve and Nayara ran out of the apartment. Steve ran out, hoping to follow the girl with Peter right after him. Nayara walked to an alley and saw the fire hydrant near her. She used her powers to break it. She sighed, creating a big wall of water at its entrance.

Steve stopped when he saw her. Nayara looked for Barry's tool as she looked around. She was panicking and hoping to block Steve coming closer. Then suddenly she heard something collide behind her. Nayara looked over her shoulder seeing how the wall of water was starting to freeze.

Steve sighed, trying to hit the wall that was becoming colder by the second. Peter groaned in pain, holding his head. He was expecting to pass through the wall of water, not crash into it.

Steve tried to hit the wall harder when he saw a blue light come from behind the wall. Panic consumed him as he hit it harder. Peter used his web to jump over the wall, and droped to the floor. He sighed not finding his girlfriend.

It was as if she had never been there.
