36 | BATMAN JOKES FAIL
NAYARA WAS HELPED by Wally to carry the coffees inside Star Labs. She would be lying to herself if she said that Wally was not fun at all. She does not think she had laughed as often as she has now, and that was saying something. Especially since she lived with Kara tighten to the hip for a couple of weeks.
Nayara walked to Cisco who was designing a new suit. Nayara looked over his shoulder. "I'm not questioning your super-superhero-suit skills, but I believe that you just live the iconic lightning bolt. I like the white in the middle of the circle, makes it pop the symbol more." Nayara said. "I think you should make it bullet proof just in case. You never know. I know Barry has super healing and all, but what harm can that do? Does it have a heating system? I mean what if he fights Captain Cold again?" Nayara questioned Cisco.
Cisco looked up to Nayara but knew her points were fair. She handed him a cup of coffee. "That is not a bad idea." Cisco said.
"Did you know that Batman's cape is fire proof, and bullet proof as well. That is very smart." Nayara said, smiling at Cisco. "You know, I love your designs." She quickly added.
"Thank you." Cisco said, smiling up to her.
"Umm...excuse me. I'm looking for Nayara." A well-known voice said behind Nayara. Nayara looked up to see Kara. A big smile spread on the brunette's face. She ran and hugged Kara tightly. Kara lifted up to the floor laughing at the young girl's excitement.
"Hey. How did you find me?" Nayara asked her.
"Barry told me where you were." Kara said to her, as she fixed her glasses. "How you doing Cisco?" Kara asked him, and he waved at her. "I need to talk to you privately." Kara said, and Nayara nodded following her out.
"Hey," Nayara said, smiling at Kara. However, the blonde did not return the smile. "What's wrong?" Nayara asked her.
"Batman has been looking for you. Manhunter saw him looking for you. He couldn't find anything." Kara told her.
"Knowing him he probably had found it by now." Nayara said in thought. "I know why it was. Barry took me to see Mount Justice for myself, and when he left for just a few minutes. Then...I...umm encountered Batman. I touched his arm to make sure he was real and then ran away in panic." Nayara confessed to Kara.
"Barry." Kara groaned in annoyance. "I told him not to take you." Kara mumbled. Nayara looked at her confused. "Just so that you would be okay here without any trouble. Turns out it all failed you know." Kara explained.
"I know who he is." Nayara whispered to Kara. "I mean, I froze. I couldn't believe he was standing in front of me. And let me tell you I didn't embarrassed myself because I held my tongue." Nayara added. "Maybe I should go back. Just...just for a while." Nayara said in thought.
"Nayara, there is a war going on. It is not going to solve in just a few days. If Emma was willing to let you go, it must have been as a last resort." Kara noted.
"What if I know which war is going on? What would happen to Steve?" Nayara asked Kara.
"He survived a lot of decades before you came into the picture." Kara told her. "and shouldn't you had solved it already? I mean, Sharon is not with him anymore." Kara said to her.
"That wouldn't stop HYDRA from killing him." Nayara replied. Nayara sighed. "It's fine. I am going to go and get some food. Get my head around all of it. I need time alone." Nayara told Kara.
"I'm just trying to warn you. I want to protect you. You are my best friend and I don't know what I would do if I ever lost you." Kara confessed.
"I know." Nayara whispered, walking away. Kara sighed, watching her go.
"Where is she going?" Wally asked Kara.
"Get some food I think." Kara answered.
. . .
Nayara sighed, standing next to the counter as she waited for the pizza to be ready. She sighed, thinking on Kara's words. She would have to come up with a good lie to tell the bat if she was bought for questioning.
"Waiting for pizza, huh?" A person said next to her. Nayara looked up seeing a man. Nayara nodded at him in response. "Not a talker?" He asked her.
"I don't talk to strangers." Nayara answered him politely. She was not really playing much attention to his appearance or to the man himself. Nayara looked down at her watch, seeing as thirty minutes had passed already. The man held back a laugh as the girl did not seemed to follow that rule a couple the previous day.
The employee approached. "It would just be a moment." He told her.
"Oh, don't worry. I know six pizzas take a while." Nayara answered, giving him a kind smile. "Take your time. I'm not in a rush." Nayara added.
The employee turned to the man that was standing next to Nayara. "Mr.Wayne, it is an honor to have you here." The employee said. Nayara froze on her spot.
She looked slightly at Bruce Wayne, who was nodding at the man. Now she was talking his appearance, and who he was. Just as Bruce was about to turn the girl turned her head the other way. I'm so dead. Nayara thought.
"I would have one peperoni and one cheese, please." Bruce Wayne said, ordering the food. He came back to stand next to Nayara, who had paled a little bit and was clearly stiff. "Six pizzas?" He asked her.
"It's for a party." Nayara answered. Actually, two meta humans and an alien. She thought.
"I thought you didn't talked to strangers." Bruce answered her.
"Well, I don't. I just didn't recognize you." Nayara said to him. She looked up to him and quickly looked down at the floor. "Wayne Industries is quite fantastic. They are pretty much genius when it comes to their products. I read about them." Nayara said, looking ahead.
"Thank you." Bruce replied. She knew that Luscious Fox was actually the one who designed it and made them.
Nayara looked down at her watch again, trying to find something to do. She knew that it was too much coincidence that Bruce Wayne aka Batman, had stopped at the same pizza shop as her, in Central City. He would stay around Gotham.
"What takes you to Central City, Mr. Wayne?" Nayara asked him.
"Business work." Bruce answered he. Nayara nodded at him. "You?" He asked her.
"Visiting a friend." Nayara answered. It was the truth.
"I didn't catch your name." Bruce told her, trying to get her identity.
Nayara smirked at him. "You never asked. It's Emily." Nayara lied, nodding at him. Bruce looked ahead and sighed. Nayara wanted to dance as she knew she had won Bruce at his own game. "You know, my friend told me this joke about Batman." Nayara said, looking at the furnace. Nayara smiled at Bruce before telling the joke.
. . .
Nayara sighed as she walked out of the pizza restaurant with more pizza that she could carry. Someone helped her with the door and was thankful that was Bruce. "Thank you." Nayara answered. Her mother always taught her to be polite no matter the person.
"Are you sure, you don't need any help?" Bruce asked her.
"No. My friend is coming." Nayara answered him. "Central City isn't Gotham. I think I can manage." She added, as she started to walk down the street. She was able to get her phone with one hand. "Hey, Cisco. I need help with these pizzas." Nayara said to him.
"Barry is already on his way." Cisco said. Just as he finished talking, she saw Barry appeared with a giant smile on his face. She hanged up the call before returning the smile.
"Thank you." Nayara said, as she allowed Barry to talk some of the pizzas. "That was the most awkward moment of my life. Bruce Wayne was right next to me ordering food. I know what this means. Batman already found me." Nayara said to Barry. She had accidentally let slip Batman's secret identity when she was talking to Barry in the previous world.
Barry stopped right on his track. "Can you check for any microphone or tracker? Just in case. I know Batman like the back of my hand." Nayara requested Barry. She felt everything blur for a mini second.
"Nothing." Barry said continuing to walk with her. "Did you tell him your name?" Barry asked her.
Nayara let out a soft laugh as she shook her head. "No, I lied. I also mad a batman joke on purpose." Nayara said, smiling at Barry. Barry chuckled at her. "And Kara come in today saying that Batman is looking for me. So, we got to figure out a good lie." Nayara told Barry.
"So, neither of us would get into trouble." Barry said, and Nayara nodded at him.
"I can be your partner." Nayara said in thought.
"No way. I told Emma that I would look after you." Barry told her. Nayara sighed, shaking her head. "And you are also my friend. I don't want nothing to happen to you." Barry added.
"I got Flash as a friend. I think I can deal with anything that comes my way." Nayara joked.
. . .
Nayara entered Barry's apartment with him carrying the pizzas. "Yes, pizza!" Wally exclaimed, walking to help Nayara.
"Thank you." Nayara answered as she closed the door. Cisco waited next to Nayara. "What are you waiting for?" Nayara asked him.
"For them to take their pizza so that I can calmly get mine." Cisco told her. Nayara held back a laugh at that. Nayara shrugged walking to the pizza.
She felt eyes on her, making her look up. The three guys were already eating their pizza as they picked a film. Nayara looked outside the window, seeing a shadow on one of the roof. It stood up. Nayara would have recognized that siluette anywhere. She smiled and waved at the shadow before going to get her pizza.
The man perched on the roof top sighed in annoyance. The girl had spotted him, and even waved at him. "Alfred, I'm starting to think I have lost my touch." Bruce said to his butler who was listening her.
"Is it about the kid who would not be intimidated by your presence, sir?" Alfred questioned him. "I found that quite amusing." He added.
"I don't know who she is." Bruce told Alfred. "She is a ghost. There is no file on her anywhere I find. That is weird." Bruce commented. "She saw me as Batman and would not flinch. One thing I know for sure, she is friend with Barry." Bruce told Alfred.
"The CSI, kid?" Alfred asked him.
"Yeah." Bruce mumbled.
"You said that he had told you he was training her. Maybe that is it. She does not seem like a threat, master Bruce." Alfred told him. "You are just annoyed that someone for once in your life time has not been intimidating by the Bat." Alfred said.
"She would talk to me with a suit, but not without it. She didn't know who I was." Bruce told him, as he looked as the girl sat on the floor next to Wally. "That is weird." He added.
"Master Bruce, with all due respect. I think weird is a man who believes to be a penguin, one that flies and is an alien, and a man dressed in green calling himself Green Lantern. A young girl who talked to Batman, and not to Bruce Wayne is not weird at all. Maybe she trusts more you as Batman because she knows what you do every night in Gotham." Alfred told Bruce. Bruce sighed, and did not say anything else. He knew that Alfred was right.
