32 | A SMALL TRIP TO NATIONAL CITY
NAYARA ENTERED KARA'Sapartment after her. Nayara smiled at the cozy looking apartment that reflected Kara's personality. There were nice bright colors mixed with a tiny bit of white and light brown everywhere.
"I can get a hotel." Nayara told Kara as she looked around the apartment.
"No. No way. You forced me to stay in your house now I'm forcing you to stay in mine." Kara told her, smiling brightly at her.
"I hope I'm not much of a bother." Nayara told her, giving her a weak smile.
The blonde closed the door and helped Nayara with her stuff. "You are not a bother, Nay. Plus, I'm really looking forward to show you around the city. I just didn't fought with Barry just so you could stay." Kara told her, sending her a look.
"Well, he has to come and bring my phone back." Nayara joked, sighing. "Shouldn't you be telling your sister and friends you are here?" Nayara asked, remembering. Kara nodded at her, remembering.
"True. I would be back." Kara said before running off to tell people about her arrival. Nayara sighed, shaking her head.
Nayara sighed as she hesitated before seating in one of the stools of Kara's apartment. She heard shuffling behind the door. Nayara quickly stood up, and picked up a frying pan that was lying around. She shuffled closer to the door, listening to the person behind it.
"No, Alex. I feel awful by entering Kara's apartment without her being there. I know you want to see if there are any other proof and make sure everything is fine, but what about me." She heard a man said. Nayara held back a laugh at the comment.
While she debated whether to let the man in or not, the unknown person had already opened it. Nayara in a panic closed the door and stood up with her back pressed against it. "Alex. It isn't opening." The man said. Nayara heard someone walk backwards and before she got hurt by the door she moved away and the man fell straight to the floor.
She quickly stepped on his back with the frying pan raised back, ready for any sudden movement from the intruder. "Ahhh!" The man yelled from the floor.
"Who on earth you?" Nayara asked him.
"Who are you? What are you doing in my friend's apartment?" The man said to her.
"How do you know Kara?" Nayara asked him with narrowed eyes.
The man closed his eyes, trying to form an answer. "Alex back up, now. Like right now. I'm about to get beat up with a frying pan." The man yelled from the floor.
Nayara scoffed. "I would not beat you up with the frying pan if you tell me who you are." Nayara said to him. She lifted her arm and stopped right in front of the man's face. "So, how do you know Kara?" Nayara asked him.
"I work with her! I'm her friend Winn." The man said.
Nayara quickly took her foot away from his back and gave him an apologetic look. "Oh, as in Winn Schott. I'm really sorry." Nayara said, giving the man a shy smile. "I'm Kara's new roommate." She said.
"Yeah?" Winn asked her, not believing her. "Kara has been gone for weeks. Almost an entire month or so. So, you are lying." Winn told her, pointing his finger at her.
"I'm presuming that who you are talking to is Alex Danvers then? Kara's older sister. She told me about her." Nayara told Winn and put down the frying pan. She showed Winn her hand as a sing of peacefulness. "I'm Nayara, nice to meet you." She told her.
Winn hesitated before shaking her hand before stepping away from her. The young girl nodded at him before pointing at him. "Actually, I'm being completely honest with you. Sorry about the entire frying pan situation, I didn't know who you were. I thought you were an intruder. I mean, I have silently sworn to myself to protect Kara who is a giant ball of sunshine." Nayara told him, putting the frying pan back where it belonged.
Winn let out a nervous laugh. "I'm pretty sure she can take care of herself." Winn said, watching how the girl calmly sat down in one of the couches. "How do you know Kara?" Winn asked her.
Nayara gave him a small smile as she tried to come up with the answer. "Well, we just met with each other a long time ago. It's a long story. A pretty long one, in fact. You should ask her. She knows it better." Nayara told Winn.
Winn nodded at her before he looked down at his phone seeing a text from Alex telling him that they were on their way. "I can't believe I got beat up by a girl." Winn murmured under his breath. Then he turned to Nayara, who seemed no older than even twenty. "Where you from?" Winn asked her.
"Gotham." She said, smiling at him.
"Oh, the city with the people who dressed up as bats and walk around in tights." Winn said to her.
"Superman wears more tights than Batman. I don't see Metropolis complaining." Nayara said, defending the Bat. "Are you sure you are okay? I might have stepped too hard on the back." Nayara said, as she winced at the thought.
"I'm fine." Winn shocked out, smiling weakly at the girl. Nayara nodded at him, as she sat on the couch. Winn was not going to lie, he was now extremely intimidated by her. "Umm...are you like alien or something?" Winn asked her, closing the door.
Nayara let out a sarcastic laugh. "No." She answered, keeping her eyes on the picture of Superman. She laughed a little more, shaking her.
"I don't know what's funny." Winn said.
"Superman. I'm more of a Supergirl fan. She is way cooler." Nayara told Winn. Winn gave her a slight look. "Supergirl seems a little less.... egotistical." Nayara answered, watching her words carefully.
Then suddenly, two people rushed inside. One was a woman and the other was a tall man. Nayara stood frozen on her spot as Winn gave the woman a small wave. Nayara raised her hands in surrender. "There is no need for those weapons. I really don't like confrontation." Nayara said as she saw how the woman took a strong hold of her harm and made her seat down on one of the stools.
"You didn't seem like one to like confrontations when you attacked me." Winn mumbled.
"Who the hell are you?" Nayara asked the woman.
"I'm Alex Danvers and I'm looking for my sister." The woman said to her. Nayara looked at her with open mouth for a few seconds before she quickly closed it. "She has gone missing and I really don't have the patience for a talk." Alex told her.
"She went looking for you." Nayara told Alex, before pushing her away. "I don't know who you think I am but let me tell you something, I'm not a threat to Kara Danvers." Nayara told Alex.
"Where is she?" The woman asked her.
"She flew off." Nayara whispered to Alex, knowing that she knew. She did not want the other two to hear. Alex looked at her with wide eyes. "She flew to tell you that she has arrived. She told me to wait here for her and that's what I'm doing." Nayara explained to her.
The man who was with her looked at Nayara with narrowed eyes. "She is telling the truth." Winn closed the door back again, looking how the man walked around the table and towards Nayara. Nayara gulped knowing who he was but tried her best to keep her thought blank.
Since she knew she could not succeed on that she decided to think of Peter. The brunette looked at the man. "I don't mean any harm, really." She softly said. The man turned into the Green Martian she knew since she was a kid. She did not seem faced by it, and this worried Alex and Winn.
Nayara gulped before giving the green man a wary smile. "We talking her to the DEO for questioning." Alex told the man.
"No. You wouldn't." Kara said, entering her home through the window. Alex's eyes softened when she saw her sister. Alex ran to her, thanking that her younger sister was fine and well. "I missed you two." Kara said, hugging tightly Alex. She pulled away and walked to the Green Martian. She stood between Nayara and the man. "J'onn that wouldn't be necessary." Kara told the man before hugging him.
Nayara smiled, seeing the lovely reunion in front of her eyes. Nayara looked over at Winn, sending him a knowing look. "So, she was telling the truth." Winn said in thought before hugging a hello to Kara.
"That you didn't believe me was one thing." Nayara told him. She turned to J'onn. "Awesome color by the way. It's a nice green. I'm Nayara Lilly, friend of Kara's." Nayara said to him, before waiting for him to shake her hand. The man shook her hand.
The brunette stood up and walked to Alex, who had walked to give another hug to Kara. Kara pulled Nayara closer to her sister and her. "Alex this is Nayara. A very good friend of mine." Kara said to Alex. She put a hand over the brunette shoulder smiling brightly.
"She is your new roommate, huh?" Winn said to Kara, who nodded back. "She attacked me with a frying pan. How does a person so young has such a force?" Winn said, looking between Kara and Nayara.
Nayara turned to Kara. "I thought he was an attacker. I didn't know it was your friend Winn until he told. I kindly apologized and told him I was your friend too and then your sister came in as well, obviously because she thought I was an intruder. It was very considerate of her." Nayara explained to Kara.
Kara held back a laugh as she looked at Winn "With a frying pan?" Kara asked her. "A freshman in college defeated you?" Kara asked Winn before laughing shaking her head.
"You're in an awful good humor for being someone who just got missing." Winn said to Kara.
"I would...wait outside while you umm...talk to them." Nayara whispered to Kara as she walked to the outside. Nayara closed the door behind her and covered her face with her hands. "And I thought that maybe hugging Batman would be embarrassing." Nayara whispered to herself.
Kara who had heard her held back a laugh. "Umm...you would be surprised in how much trouble I got myself into this time." Kara told the three people.
"We thought you were dead." Winn pointed out.
Kara gave him a weak smile. "I wasn't. Umm...this will sound out really weird but I was actually in an entire different world. Like not even within this universe. It was interesting." Kara told Alex.
"And I am presuming that you met this Anhara girl in that universe?" Winn asked her.
"Nayara." Kara corrected him. She held back Nayara's origin, since it was not her life to tell. "She was originally from here, but she got stuck there." Kara lied, smiling at Winn. "So we helped each other. She lost her family so since we became such good friend I told her that she should stay with mer. And I mean it was getting kind of lonely in my apartment all by myself." Kara told her sister.
"She said she was from Gotham." Winn commented in thought.
Kara held back a laugh, knowing that Nayara's favorite heroes lived there. "Yeah. She is." Kara told Winn. Alex was giving her a look. "She is really sweet and unproblematic Alex. She was really looking forward to meeting you." Kara commented, which was the truth.
The older sister sighed. "I'm just not sure if you should be sharing an apartment with somebody who you not know much about." Alex told her sister.
Kara scoffed playfully rolling her eyes. "I do know her Alex. Actually, I know her pretty damn well. That is what happens when you live with a person for a few weeks." Kara told her as she smiled at her.
Nayara looked down on the floor, humming a small show tune. One in particular, the one of the person who she would know share a house with. A loud cough, made Nayara jump. She gave a small smile to the scarlet speedster. "You were really quick." Nayara said.
"Okay, so I asked Cisco to connect a new ship so that your phone could actually work here. I added my number, Kara's, Iris's and Cisco's...and Star Labs as well. I didn't know which one you would need so I added them all. I added mine in speed dial in case of an emergency." Barry explained to her as he handed her phone back. He then gave her a small plastic bag with her old chip. "How is going in national city?" Barry asked her.
"Umm...I just terrified Kara's friend by threatening him with a frying pan and stepping on his back. I thought he was an intruder." Nayara told him with a small smile. Barry held back a laugh. "Have you talked to Iris, yet. Because if you haven't I would go all mad at you. Please tell me you kissed her hello and reminded her how much you love her." Nayara told, pointing at him.
Barry nodded at her. "Yeah, I have." Barry told her.
"I just met Martian Manhunter!" Nayara said, pointing at inside the apartment. He is so cool in real life. "It would have been amazing if it weren't for the fact that he was questioning me about Kara." Nayara quickly added.
Barry shook his head. He saw the door was about to open, so he got ready to leave. "Bye. Call me when you go to Central City. I am going to keep my promise." Barry said, pointing at her. Nayara smiled and waved goodbye to him.
There was a sudden gush of win and he was gone. Alex opened the door before letting the girl inside the apartment. "Thank you." Nayara said to Alex as she followed her inside.
. . .
Nayara helped Kara clean the plates. The small clatter of voices could be heard in the background. Of course, Kara's friend were celebrating that she was bad, and Nayara was more than happy to be part of that.
"Again, I'm really sorry about the Winn thing. I felt awful when I realized who it was. And I didn't attack him. He just slammed into the door, and I moved so he fell." Nayara tried to explain for the tenth time in a role.
Kara sighed, motioning Nayara to stop cleaning the plates. "You should not be sorry about any of it. It was funny." Kara said, smiling brightly at Nayara. "Do I look mad?" She asked the girl.
The brunette shook her head. "You look really happy. Your dimples are showing." Nayara answered as she pointed at her own two cheeks. Nayara looked over at her shoulder, seeing James Olsen pull out a set of post tick notes. "You should join them. I would finish doing the dishes." She told Kara.
Kara sighed before accepting the offer, knowing the girl would not accept a no as an answer. "Alright, but when you finish you are on my team." Kara told her. Nayara nodded, as she hummed the same tune she was doing while she finished the dishes.
After finishing the dishes, Alex moved her spot on the couch to let the girl seat in. "Thank you." Nayara said, as Kara handed her what she needed to act. The girl smirked when she saw what it was. Nayara reached for one of the blankets that was next to the couch and stood up. She hide behind, only her eyes showing, the blanket. The girl turned to Winn and gave him her best Batman glare. The she stood up before clutching and acting as she threw something. Kara looked at her with a small knowing look. The girl then jumped and tried to make her best Batman pose.
Alex sat next to Kara trying to contain the laughter. Nayara sighed, using her fingers to make hears. Then she sighed as she tried to figure a way to say what she was. Then she figured it out. She ran to the poster of Superman and pointed it at it. "Something to do with Superman and a creepy glare." Alex said to Kara.
"I think I know what it is." Kara said, smiling at Nayara. By spending endless times with the brunette she had learned Nayara's impression of one her favorite heroes by memory. "Batman." Kara said, pointing at Nayara. Nayara nodded at her.
She got a hold of the blanket again. "I'm Batman." She said in her best Batman voice. "I craw in the shadows of Gotham with my sidekick by my side. You might run or attempt to hide but I would found you...because.... I'm..." Nayara said, and she was surprised when Winn finished the sentence along with Kara. "Batman." She said.
Kara burst out in laughter, along with Alex who was covering her mouth with her hand. "That was the not so tarrying attempt to be Batman." James commented. "But it was very entertaining." He quickly added, and Nayara in return did a small bow.
"Why did you point at Superman?" Winn asked her.
"Because they work together in the Justice League." Nayara said, shrugging.
"That was a very good point though." Winn said. "But I gather that you are more a Batman fan than Superman after you call him egoistical." Winn said, pointing at Nayara with a small smile. "What did you say? Supergirl was better than Superman?" Winn joked.
"She is." Nayara said, smiling at Kara that was sitting on the floor.
"She knows." Kara said, directing her words to her closest friend and family members. "Did you really say Superman was egotistical?" Kara said, giving a small smile to Nayara.
"I don't know. I really don't know. I feel like he knows he is pretty famous and beloved for people, and that is why he always possess. But I have not met the guy so I can't judge." Nayara said, raising her hands in defense.
"Who would you support in a fight?" James asked her.
"Kara of course, and she would win it without a doubt." Nayara said, before high fiving Kara. Kara smiled at Nayara who seemed to be a little more at ease than when they had arrived. She was glad to see her close friend happy after what she had grown through Steve and the worries of almost seeing him died. Now it was all forgotten because she was with her in her world, ready to have a fresh start.
. . .
A/N: I love writing Nara scenes because they are such a pure friendship. Kara would give her life for Nayara and vice versa. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter of Part III so much more is to come on Nayara's way in this part in particular. I know this might seem like a slow start but I particularly don't want to rush anything. Again thank you for reading my story.
